Will Dwight Howard Get Traded to the Brooklyn Nets Before Thursday’s NBA Draft?
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Dwight Howard is upset at Orlando management, and wants to be traded. His latest flirtation appears to be with the Brooklyn Nets (again?). According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski earlier this week, the Magic center wants to be dealt before the draft, and he’d like to go to Brooklyn … and be paired with Deron Williams.
Howard is signed through the 2012-13 season, but another fallout with management has left him wanting a trade soon. Howard will push for a trade to the Brooklyn Nets before the June 28 NBA draft to clear the way for Nets free agent Deron Williams to re-sign with the Nets and partner in the new Brooklyn arena next season.
I recently mentioned to my wife that I wanted a Porsche. Specifically, this one, in black, or this one (it’s the one Dylan McKay used to drive). My wife had no response. When I forced the issue, she rolled her eyes. I pressed on. She derisively laughed at me and left the room. The “discussion” was over.
I surmise this is probably what the Magic are privately doing at the latest Howard report. The Brooklyn Nets have zero pieces to trade to Orlando for Howard. No, Brook Lopez is not nearly enough. If you attempt to tinker with the ESPN Trade Machine in attempt to come up with something enticing the Nets could offer, I’ll scream in your face, “THERE IS NO FUCKING COKE,” like Keaton yelled at McManus in the Usual Suspects. There’s just no way the Nets can trade for Howard.
Dwight Howard, you bricked. You decided to stay in Orlando for another year so you wouldn’t look like a bad guy, and so the chain restaurant capital of the US wouldn’t hate you. What a colossal mistake.

Magic wouldn’t dare trade Howard now. Why run up the white flag so early before next season?
That Porsche is sweeeeet. Didja sell your wife on the two of you taking romantic drives through the countryside at sunset?

I love that the terrible Gerald Wallace trade may end up being a multi-year setback for not one, but two franchises. If NJ still had their #1, it with Lopez/ballast would be on a red-eye to Orlando in a second, right?

Jason,
That one has a small back seat right? Recaro used to sell toddler seats which you could get in there. Totally family friendly.

realisticaly Orlando needs to trade him and get what they can. Just don’t see it happening, though.

“realisticaly Orlando needs to trade him and get what they can. Just don’t see it happening, though.”
See, this is what I don’t get. I understand that everyone in Orlando wants to win some games and sell some playoff tickets, but what’s best case for Orlando this year? A 3 or 4 seed and getting their teeth kicked in my the Bulls or Heat? Is that worth another year of all this drama? With a new regime coming in, wouldn’t you want to start fresh?
If you’re Orlando and you can’t move D12 anywhere else, why wouldn’t you take Lopez and NJ’s 1st rounders in ’13 and ’14? Yeah, they’ll late first rounders with Howard and Williams up there, but you couple those with the lottery picks you’ll have the next two years, you have a chance of building a good young roster very quickly. And you can’t tell me the Nets wouldn’t take that deal, as they’re probably a lottery team the next two years themselves if they don’t get Howard/keep Williams.

“1..2…3…4…5….6…Oswald was a fag.”
jayhawk…the problem is that the new regime coming in has to sell this trade idea to their owner and to their fanbase — many of which are big Howard fans. Given that many still think he can be convinced to stay, any trade that is presented has to be of sufficient quality for them to part with Howard.
Problem is that, in these instances, superstars rarely, if ever, bring back enough pieces in a trade for a team that moves them. (Actually, the last 3 major trades kinda have: Gasol-for-Gasol, Melo-for-Gallinari, Mozgov, and Chandler, Paul-for-Gordon, Aminu, Kaman and #10). I don’t know if you can convince the Magic’s fans that the best deal out there for Howard is a Lopez twin and a couple of late first-round picks.

Magic have no leverage, I will offer a half eaten pizza and some whiskey dregs for Howard to play on my dodgeball team for a year. It’s the best offer presently on the table.
