The Red Sox Traded Kevin Youkilis to the Chicago White Sox
It finally happened. The Boston Red Sox have traded Kevin Youkilis to the Chicago White Sox for pitcher Zach Stewart.
Youkilis, a three-time all-star, was a member of Boston’s World Series winning teams in both 2004 and 2007. The 33-year-old was hitting just .225/.311/.359 this season and had lost his third-base job to Will Middlebrooks.
He’ll likely play third for the White Sox, who have Paul Konerko and Adam Dunn locked in at 1st and DH.
Bobby Valentine substituted Youkilis for a pinch runner after his RBI-triple in the 7th inning to let him say goodbye.
Anyone who makes a changing his sox “joke” should be beaten with his or her own hackitude.

Couldn’t hear the game (at a bar) but he got ovations all day long and a great send off.

Well Duffy, you are the first one I’ve heard come up with it. Lucky for you, you have plenty of hackitude to spare, eh?

Wow! Did not get much in return for a gold glove multiple all star. I hope he can come back and have a few more good years.

True-ish. Only played in the first round of the playoffs. Was basically the primary PR for the Sox in September, IIRC, before being bypassed for Dave Roberts in the postseason.

Fredsanford,
Boston got what they could for an injury-prone aging player. They werent going to get a better offer

I know, it’s a sad day for me though.

White Sox give up two of their worst players (Brent Lillibridge is also part of the deal) and get back a 3rd baseman who’s not a corpse like what they currently have along with $5M…not seeing a downside here

No way. Ellsbury, probably. Pedroia, nope.

Beckett would be the next to go if he were healthy. I’d love to see Crawford be shipped out but with that contract, he’ll be in Boston for a while. Great job, Larry Lucchino! Next time, let your GM make the call.
