Italy beat England 4-2 on penalties and advances to the Euro 2012 semifinals after a 0-0 draw. The tide turned with Pirlo’s unbelievably ballsy chip. It’s a tough loss for England, though the better team won. Roy Hodgson should be credited for giving England a chance.

It’s been said Germany had no preference between England and Italy. Don’t be so sure about that. Germany is winless in nine competitive matches against Italy (0-4-5 all-time). The most recent loss will be fixed in their memory, the 2-0 extra time loss at home in the 2006 World Cup.
