Euro 2012: Cristiano Ronaldo Blew (Someone Not) Messi a Kiss After Sending Portugal to Semifinals [UPDATE]
Cristiano Ronaldo scored this goal and celebrated by calling out Messi and blowing a kiss. This probably isn’t personal animosity. It’s more a reaction to being one of the five or 10 best players ever to play your sport, and having your game constantly compared and belittled as the best player, just slightly better than you, plays for your rival club. That goal probably just won Ronaldo the Ballon D’Or.
[UPDATE: those who have heard the audio claim Ronaldo said "para ti" in Portuguese, "for you."]
Ronaldo’s celebration after the goal was nearly outdone by Portuguese legends Eusebio and Luis Figo, watching together in the stands. And, yes, he’s totally pulling off the blazer/Portugal jersey combo, because he’s Luis Fucking Figo. [Gifs via 101GG, @MarioBalotelli]

Win for Messi.
June 22nd, 2012 at 11:42 AM
Wow, just wow. Didn’t realize that’s what he was saying. But now that you pointed it out, it’s clear that’s what he said.
June 22nd, 2012 at 11:44 AM
Without a doubt.
June 22nd, 2012 at 11:46 AM
Also I’m always going to hate Messi now for gifting Chelsea the CL trophy.
And for the time he dissed the guy with a Messi puppet.

I don’t understand why people don’t like Ronaldo (minus the flopping). Dude is a once-in-a-generation star IMO.
/ only watched him at Man U/2006 WC
June 22nd, 2012 at 11:49 AM
the kiss was for his son.
June 22nd, 2012 at 11:49 AM
That is fucking awesome, carry on CR7.
/hala madrid

Honest question, how is he a once-in-a-generation star when he is widely viewed as the 2nd best player in the world?
June 22nd, 2012 at 11:55 AM
Because they’re two different kinds of players. There’s not a player like Messi out there and there’s not a player like Ronaldo out there.
June 22nd, 2012 at 11:58 AM
Makes sense. Also I think the real reason people don’t like him is if your wife/girlfriend ever had the chance, they would.

Messi is a hideous looking troll.
Ronaldo is a slick piece of Eurotrash that bitches love.
Absolutely plays a part in it.
June 22nd, 2012 at 12:00 PM
I initially thought the same thing. But read his lips. Seems like he said messi.

He’s also very pouty and whiny as well. And although he’s gotten much better at it, he still has a tendency to dive and fall down instead of carrying on the play when he’s fouled. A lot of times, if he just stays on his feet and keeps playing he would have a better outcome than settling for a free kick and upsetting the flow of the game.

I am a novice when it comes to watching soccer, but sitting on my couch hungover yesterday, you could just see that Ronaldo was more dynamic than any other player on the field (or pitch or what the fuck ever people call it).

Although it seems most of the media is unaware, Christiano Ronaldo’s native language is Portuguese. In reality, he said “Para ti”, or ‘For you’. It’s a dedication to his son.

It’s really a shame you would condescend to the consensus opinion without spending five minutes doing research. I know for a fact you’re better than that, Duffy.
p.s. the real question is if Figo is wearing is own jersey or Ronaldo’s…

His son’s name is Crissy sooooooooo … push.
June 22nd, 2012 at 12:07 PM
Crissy? Really? Is that the official name, or a nickname? Wow, how the fuck do you name your son Crissy!!!!!!!!!!
June 22nd, 2012 at 12:08 PM
Cristiano.

Just to clear this up, he said para ti which means for you, aka the goal was for his son. After the match he said he dedicated the goal to his son, so ya. He did the same thing after he scored vs Netherlands on fathers day.
June 22nd, 2012 at 12:18 PM
I’ve never seen a picture of this random dude Ronaldo’s wife? Anybody got anything?
June 22nd, 2012 at 12:21 PM
That hand grabbing thing is also a reference to his son, as was the thumb sucking thing he did after he scored vs Netherlands. Being Portuguese myself, it’s extremely annoying how everybody tries to bring Messi into everything. This is the European Championship. Nobody gives two craps about what Messi’s doing, nor does Ronaldo. You can talk about Messi all you want, but at the end of the day there is no Portugal supporter who would trade Ronaldo for Messi. The guy can’t even dedicate a goal to his son without people trying to spin it to him blowing a kiss to Messi. Absolutely ridiculous.
June 22nd, 2012 at 12:26 PM
Facts, bro. Facts. No place around here.
June 22nd, 2012 at 12:28 PM
He’s not married. Knocked up a waitress.
Kid’s name is Christiano Ronaldo Jr.
Also he says ‘Para ti’, or ‘For you’. Funny that a native Portuguese speaker might speak Portuguese. He also dedicated his MoM award to his son via twitter.

@scripty: he’s not married. he has been dating model Irina Shayk for a while.
June 22nd, 2012 at 12:36 PM
If he’d eliminate the flopping, I’d like him. I respect his game, but he’s a bitch. Plus he pulls the finest tail like a mutherfucka.
June 22nd, 2012 at 12:40 PM
Yeah the more you look at it it’s clear he’s making a “P” and not “M” sound, you can tell by his mouth.
June 22nd, 2012 at 12:46 PM
I don’t get it. It’s clear even if you don’t speak his language that he forms three syllables and unless he draws out Messi to three syllables, it won’t work.
June 22nd, 2012 at 12:49 PM
This could be another Duffy Deletion special. “Journalist”
June 22nd, 2012 at 1:11 PM
Um yes. And it’s not close.
Hilarious.
June 22nd, 2012 at 1:35 PM
Really? How is it not close? I’m partial to neither but Messi did just post the best individual season ever seen in Europe. Dude scored 70 fucking goals.
June 22nd, 2012 at 5:22 PM
Stunts like that are why nobody respects Ronaldo. It’s one thing if Argentina was even eligible to qualify for the tournament buutttt…….
Kinda over this Euro tourney. Definitely second-rate compared to the World Cup.
June 22nd, 2012 at 5:26 PM
That goal probably just won Ronaldo the Ballon D’Or.
Nah. If Ronaldo does win it’s nothing he did but rather the media being too scared to piss old overrated Pele off.
