Hate to nitpick, but Ronaldo plays as a forward (along with Nani and whoever is thrown in at center F,usually Postiga). Their mids are Meireles, Moutinho, and Veloso.

He’s not the center forward or striker which is what I listed. I understand Portugal plays a 4-3-3.

The FA could certainly take more efforts to educate/crack down on the behavior.

A lot of these countries have done very little to address racism and some punishment is warranted, but still, the FAs are in a tough position. Educating fans requires a lot of institutional support, probably from UEFA itself, and will have next to no effect if the causes for racism are more entrenched in society. England has had relative success with this problem, but this is arguably tied to the country’s improved racial integration over the past two decades, and because they were able to create the Premier League and (somewhat) gentrify the culture of English soccer.

Neither of the two options are available to most other FAs in Europe. The fines are cosmetic, as they should be, because the basic approach to this is a dead end already. What UEFA ought to do is hire more police/stewards and just remove those who are guilty of these chants, like what would happen here if something like that were to take place.

Not the first or the second time Croatia has been find for racism/Neo-nazism by fans. The FA could certainly take more efforts to educate/crack down on the behavior. They are getting off light.
