is anyone really surprised by this?
June 18th, 2012 at 8:58 AM
You have to know Costas was absolutely pissed about Rooster Man. This is his moment!!!
June 18th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
No. I mean, Rock of Ages is an okay idea on paper, fun summer movie, and my guess is that Cruise gives it his all, but the preview looked terrible, Baldwin in particular looked like he was sleepwalking through his crappy lines and the movie is attempting to have some kind of plot for some odd reason.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
this. that guy can go pound sand as far as i’m concerned. he flirts with insufferable with just about everything he does.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
Rodney King, 47, was found dead at the bottom of his swimming pool
Shocked that he had a pool. I didn’t realize he could swim.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:04 AM
Well, that was the problem wasn’t it?
June 18th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
I’m always surprised when morons don’t like moronic movies. Every time I think “this bad movie is going to flop and start a chain reaction that leads to better cinema,” Adam Sandler releases a new hit.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
BTW, I move to make Game Four of the NBA Finals entirely a free throw shooting contests. We’ll let Miami shoot 120, OKC 100, whomever makes the most wins the game.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:06 AM
Also, how sad is it that the highlight of US Soccer took place a decade ago?
June 18th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
i think sandler movies are probably incredibly cheap to make and earn most of their money in video sales. but his name is too big to be straight to dvd, unfortunately.
although he would be interesting in a Tarantino film. if mike myers could do it…
June 18th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
The waiting list for Oklahoma City Thunder season tickets in 2013-2014 is at 2,000. [Tulsa World]
And Lloyd Noble Center will never be more than half full again.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
Funny People showed that Sandler is self-aware of the stuff he puts out but apparently just doesn’t care…I for one envy and respect his souless cash grabs
June 18th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
Hell, the US won the gold medal in rugby twice.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:12 AM
Please explain the Tarantino, Sandler and Myers comment. I’m not aware of any comedic actors being in a Tarantino flick.
/not saying it wouldn’t work
June 18th, 2012 at 9:12 AM
I think it’s nice that we even have a soccer highlight. Could have been a bigger one if the refs had been competent enough to see the handball against Germany.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
Myers was a British officer in Inglourious Basterds.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
Long live the call me maybe meme

June 18th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
There are only two types of people in this world. Those who hated those awful “NFL half-time sermon of the week brought to you by the highest horse in all the lands” segments Costas did last year on NBC, and those who are douchebag pricks.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:17 AM
Mike Myers was in Ingorious Basterds with his Austin Powers voice.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:17 AM
how sad is it that the highlight of US Soccer took place a decade ago?
By my standards, not sad at all.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
I’m not aware of any comedic actors being in a Tarantino flick.
Samuel Jackson qualifies.
and Tarantino’s flicks have funnier scenes than anything Sandler has made in the last decade.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:19 AM

June 18th, 2012 at 9:20 AM
“i just shot marvin in the face!”
June 18th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
Who knows what happened, but the vast majority of pool deaths are total accidental – slip and fall or intoxication related. Not a typical way to commit suicide.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
and being strictly a comedic actor is rare these days. everyone wants to be taken serious. they’re doing the wrong drugs, IMO.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:24 AM

June 18th, 2012 at 9:25 AM

what can you expect from a musical that bills shitty, campy songs as the definitive rock hits of a generation?
June 18th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
“i just shot marvin in the face!”
lol. too many funny moments in that movie to count.
another classic is when kurt russell is screaming from the ass-kicking those girls are giving him in Death Proof.

It always comforts me when a pro’s pro like Furyk hits a duck hook and has to punch back out to the fairway. I feel for him, though.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
That’s My Boy somehow cost $70 million fucking dollars to make.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
“i just shot marvin in the face!”
this scene was written as him shooting Marvin in the throat/face.. and marvin didnt die, so they had a quick debate and then decided to shoot marvin to end his pain.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
Yep.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:29 AM

June 18th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
funniest moment of the Open yesterday was when Hossler’s caddy forgot to hand him his putter and Dufner pulled it out of his bag and gave it to him.
/also lol @ Hossler’s walking bag
June 18th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
It was the Round of 16. That got them to the Quarterfinals against Germany and the shitty loss where Germany got to use their hands to prevent goals…
June 18th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
Leave Beau Hossler alone, you jealous fucks.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
I saw about 10 walking bags. Gotta give credit to amateurs taking it easy on their caddies!
June 18th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
Pretty typical for amateurs and Monday qualifiers to have standbags. I’ve never seen a high school kid with a tour bag.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
What a shitty german team that was.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
His MILF looked like quite the kept woman.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
For all the talk of shitty officiating in the NBA and MLB, soccer is probably as bad if not worse. They need more officials and/or limited replay, because these refs have no clue what’s going on out there. I haven’t seen one well-officiated Euro game thus far. Greece losing their striker after that embarrassing yellow for diving when he should have gotten a PK was just one of two dozen terrible miscues.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
So he drowned himself, right? What a horrible way to commit suicide.
Suicide by drowning seems kind of impossible. Unless he tied a chuck of concrete to himself.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
apparently not many assclowns love it, if it flopped at the box office.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
Leave Beau Hossler alone, you jealous fucks.
He looked like The Whammer from The Natural.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
I liked Hossler’s quote about the “bogey train”.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
The craft services for Rex Ryan alone probably accounted for a fifth of that.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
What doesn’t help the fact is the affirmative action program that UEFA has going for itself when it comes to their refs. It’s very common to see a referee crew from some podunk eastern european country call Semi-Final or Final of champions league or the Euros.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
I was going by the assumption that he can’t swim

June 18th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Rock of Ages and That’s My Boy flopped at the box office
is anyone really surprised by this?
More surprised at “That’s My Boy” flopping simply because it has been ubiquitous the last couple of months with ads everywhere (including that Shaq-Barkley ad). I hope it’s the sign that America is finally fed up with the Happy Gilmore Regurgitation Machine.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
If That’s My Boy does this badly, I wonder if they’ll rethink “Grownups 2″.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
So he drowned himself, right? What a horrible way to commit suicide.
Cutter: … I once told you about a sailor who drowned.
Robert Angier: Yes, he said it was like going home.
Cutter: I lied. He said it was agony.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
All of this is true. But even the best officials are hamstrung by the size of the pitch and the speed of the game. They just can’t keep up and often have to make huge calls without the proper angles or perspectives. In tournaments this big, one call can often be the difference between victory and defeat. Too important to be left up to the officials.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
Sadly, no, because it sounds like they’re deep in production right now.
Adam Sandler cannot be stopped.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:42 AM

Being honest here – I’ve never seen Billy Madison all the way through. I watched Happy Gilmore and Waterboy when I was in my teens. I don’t remember any plot other than one dealt with golf and the other football.
I sometimes think my mind has blocked out these movies like some minds do when great tragedy or trauma happens.

Best Keane concert ever on Friday.
I watched all of season 1 of Veep this weekend. It exceeded my expectations. And My Girl can get it.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:58 AM
Well played.
Did manage to see The Flaming Lips, Raekwon, Killer Mike and Ghostface Killah. Killer Mike had some discourteous things to say about Ronald Reagan which I enjoyed. Raekwon was pulling random people out of the crowd to play method man or odb’s parts. Through happenstance he pulled a notorious crack head on the stage and he fucking killed it as method man. Good times.
June 18th, 2012 at 9:58 AM
My Girl has incredibly ba-donka-donk. Veep, on the other hand, falls flat.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:00 AM
Another of the girl’s straight from TBL’s wheelhouse of shows:
Pretty Little Liars, A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song, Ruby & the Rockits (Smells Like Teen Drama episode), Privileged, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, and American Juniors reality show.

yes, i do. i think you know me well enough to know that i take pride in equipment. if i’m playing the weekend at the Open, someone is giving me a Sunday bag with my fucking initials/favorite team/cartoon character/pornstar/etc on it.

veep has incredible potential, was uneven, but compared to that hipster dumpster fire “Girls” it’s the best thing on TV.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
I think it comes down to personal taste. You either like that Curb’d type of humor or you don’t. If you do, then you love the show.

June 18th, 2012 at 10:06 AM
Yeah I am okay with Curb, the scenarios are funnier to me than the actual jokes about the scenarios.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:06 AM
Love Curb, won’t be returning for the next season of Veep…the styles are roughly the same (aside from Veep being far more formulaic almost to the point of being a traditional sitcom) but the quality of jokes aren’t in this reporter’s opinion

Smells like massive NCAA violations to me. Thus, he got to wear his own stuff. Scary that the kid would ever pick out a visor that looked like that though…
Would really like to see more close-ups of Mama Hossler though. She has potential for being a 5 iron. Good from 180 yards, but not usable up close.

i guess it would be an NCAA violation considering the kid is still a junior in HS, but don’t see how that’d be any different than college kids having their schools’ bags. doubt they paid for those.

like a dumbass, only brought a litre of water even tho i showed up two hours early to practice. ended up killing it by the 3rd hole, skipped the turn to jump in front of a HORRIBLY slow group, and the cart girl only had gatorades at 15. felt like i was going to hurl after i chugged it but still hit a 6i from 180 to 5 feet after a HUGE drive…felt a lil chunk come up during the putt and pushed the eagle putt right.
so salty.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
I’ve never seen “Girls,” but I just heard about it the other day. That’s pretty cool that a 26-year-old got her big break creating and starring in the show. It might suck (according to a lot of you), but to have your own TV show at that age is quite remarkable.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Furyk choked just like I thought he would. I did like the Tesori/Webb bits this one time. It was shocking to see how dependent on Tesori he was. Now going forward, I’d agree about nixing all that chit chat.
Players get a decent bit of schwag on recruiting visits. So some Texas gear wouldnt have been outrageous. Now, I will agree the kid went major Walter Donovan in the Longhorns team shop though.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Can’t give recruits any swag.
Once at school, the swag is part of your teamwear. Hats, pullovers, shirts, shoes, balls, bags, and greens fees are all a part of your paid college education! What a life!
But, remember, college kids are exploited and should be paid.
/Sarcasm is a strong suit for me

It’s like a thing crawled up a dead cow’s ass, and then that thing itself died. But before it did, it laid hundreds of little tiny egg sacks, each one of those containing another tiny, dead thing. That’s how foul Girls is.

love furyk and all, but there’s a reason he’s 42 with only one major. he was like a scolded puppy out there. show some balls man…
agreed on the pace of play. i know people hate jonny miller, but he always notices when players start to take a bit longer on shots and/or change their routine. he’s spot on when he says it only hurts their game.

Due to some fucktard bringing his 2 week old baby and 3 yr old son to see Spider-Man 1, fielding phone calls from Mom to see how the baby is doing, I haven’t been back to the theater. Almost exactly 10 years later, I broke my embargo and went to see The Avengers. During the trailers, there’s a loud, buzzing, speaker. Trudge all the way to the box office, tell them about it, and no one comes to check it out. Half hour in, the audio completely fails. 5 minutes of watching The
ArtistAvengers, trudge back out and let them know. They RESTARTED the entire fucking move and gave us all vouchers to relive this experience at the movie of our choosing.Takeaway: Fuck movie theaters.

i thought he was phenomenal in the booth this weekend. fucking spot on the whole weekend.
the only bad part of the broadcast was berman…everything else was absolutely top notch.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
spencer. 84 is my best at lmcc. That sounds like a day at Tanglewood I had. I thought there’d be water but I didnt know they didnt have any.
Playing with some low handicappers they wanted to all play from the furthest tips. I has almost vomiting from heat sickness after a 52. I told them I might turn in. But shot a 40 on the back somehow. It was my Ken Venturi Congressional moment.

Yes the gentry are noble and great to cloth their sefs. May Zeus bless and keep the gentry.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
Years ago, Feherty made the greatest, most accurate swing analogy ever. He said Furyk’s swing “looks like an Octopus falling out of a tree”.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
that’s fucking great…i think it’s because we’re too busy focusing on feeling like shit to worry about stupid swing thoughts and subconsciously get out of our own way. once i started feeling like shit, it was point and click…fucking loved it.
well…until the puking. dehydration sucks ass.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
I just consider him to be completely pompous. He does make a ton of great points, but having to listen to some of the drivel just wipes the good stuff out.
Was listening to Strange on the radio for a while yesterday. He was a breath of fresh air after Negative Johnny…
June 18th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
I mean, how many sitcoms really have revolutionary concepts. Its the execution that makes it great.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
This right here, that show is fantastic.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
I know somebody poked at Costas earlier but he was great. That is how a studio host should cut things around. He embarrassed himself when he thought they were getting the Hossler/Texas scoop but admitted he just embarrassed himself.
I thought Miller was great too. I get that people that dont watch weekly think he’s harsh but he was dialed in. He did try to say “Lake Merced” every time he could. Ok Johny, I get it, you are from the area.
The on-course crew was good, the slow mo shots were good. A- I’d say from NBC.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Really? I wanted to throw my pitching wedge through the tv when he said Mickelson’s head wasn’t there yesterday, pointing out in his Johnny Emotional voice, that his mind was probably on Father’s Day and being with his kids. WHAT THE FUCK PROFESSIONAL* GOLFER POSSIBLY WANTS TO SPEND THE DAY WITH HIS KIDS ON FATHERS DAY?!?!
*or casual observing fan
June 18th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Storylines like that are (one of) the things that killed Heroes. Fuck that show too.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:27 AM
What was the more annoying intrusion at the US Open trophy ceremony? The cock crowing heckler or the bantam cock of the walk Bob Costas? He is NBC’s Chris Berman (with apologies to Costas who is maybe one third as insufferable) but why do they trot him out for one golf tournament a year. Jimmy Roberts must want to strangle him for air time.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
The writers strike and the fact that they got too complicated destroyed that show. Oh and they made that big penultimate fight at the end of season 1 into a complete shit show.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
what’s all this heat exhaustion/dehydration nonsense? you guys are young… man up.
spencer – you live in Ohio. i’ve played FL courses in Aug afternoons just to get a cheaper round in and didn’t puke. excuses….
i don’t mind Miller in the booth. he’s honest and his commentary is what pro’s should expect from another pro. leave the knob slobbing to us amatuers.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
68,000 frames per second is awesome.
/assumes, like all technological advances, it was invented by the porn industry
June 18th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
“Tune in to next week’s episode when
the Veepone of the Bluths does/says something stupid andthe gangMichael has to prevent it fromtrending on Twitter (spoiler: they won’t)hurting the company/family”even the best shows have a formula that repeat over and over
June 18th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
I liked the concept, found the jokes to fall flat is all (aside from Mike, he’s hilarious)…comedy’s subjective, should make it easier to understand why someone wouldn’t like it
June 18th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
ill…i have no idea. i play all the time and this was the first time anything like this has happened. cmon, we’ve played before…you know i wouldnt walk out on a round unless it was bad.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
Johnny Miller is always good for throwing a few bombs. When Tiger started screwing up Sunday; I think on the 3rd hole, Johnny gave us a classic “What was that?” He’s also not afraid of implying – but never using the c-word – that there was a lot of gagging going on. “That’s nerves, folks.” He has been there.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
I completely agree with Der Kaiser’s point. Veep is a complete ripoff of the trailblazing mechanics of Arrested Development.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
over-used term of the tournament: “take your medicine.”
June 18th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
I wanted to scratch my ears off with a cheese grater. Especially when he was making happy hour jokes when they were showing Biershank.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
Courses without water in the middle of June? The fuck is that about?
June 18th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
the place we’re tlaking about is FUCKED UP. dudes i was paired with were all members who STILL paid $55 a round…i paid $39 on golfnow and they looked at me like i just ran over their dog.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
It was more “I can’t believe this group of people doesn’t universally adore Veep.”
Agree to disagree I suppose (but I’m obviously right).
June 18th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
chinese daughter torture is the greatest portmanteau ive ever heard.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
“Tune in to next week’s episode when McNulty does/says something stupid and the Mayor has to prevent it from being in The Baltimore Sun. (spoiler: they won’t).
Is good game.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
Huge letdown….that would have been like Game of Thrones not showing the Blackwater battle this year. The whole season lead to the showdown between Peter and Sylar….and they bitched out. I should have walked away after that, but hung on for two more awful seasons.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Matt Walsh, legend since the Upright Citizens Brigade.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
you know i wouldnt walk out on a round unless it was bad.
oh, i’m not implying that you would. i’m asking you to plug your vagina and capitalize when you’re about to break 80!
June 18th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
Wow. I guess you’re lucky if they have yardage markers at that point.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
I FEEL GUILTY ENOUGH ALREADY, DAMNIT.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
GPS carts, smokin hot cart girls, fairly good conditions…bad thing is, they use a lake to water the course and it’s almost been sucked dry and we’re only in june. RUT ROH.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
We haven’t had shit for rain here (or any precipitation really–dry winter) in a while. It’s great though….I don’t have to mow my grass as much and my drives get another 20 yards because the ground is so hard.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
I FEEL GUILTY ENOUGH ALREADY, DAMNIT.
here, i’ll make you feel better.
i played a friend last week who’s a 4. i took 6 strokes from him – 3 a side – shot 79, and lost 3&2. i was so fucking pissed the last 2 holes.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
Golfnow.com needs to get their shit together and add more courses in NH.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
and add more courses in NH.
maybe the website is like the rest of the country and doesn’t know what or where NH is…?
June 18th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
This seems counter productive like when bleeding to death your body starts internally hemorrhaging. Darwin hates you.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
fuck that…heartbreaking.
woot
June 18th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
I did find the course we’re gonna play on Sunday on there….apparently Mercer & MiddleSex Co. is South Jersey according to Golfnow.
/still gonna call to make tee time tomorrow
June 18th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
Just picked up a waterbottle I thought was empty, it was not empty, my heart stopped for a second.
June 18th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
i know the feeling…crazy how much shock and fear you experience over something so small. brain’s a weird place man…WEIRD.
June 18th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Just picked up a waterbottle I thought was empty, it was not empty, my heart stopped for a second.
not nearly as bad as unknowingly drinking out of a spitter
June 18th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
/nods
June 18th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
Ugh, I’ve done this twice. Dipping is the worst.
June 18th, 2012 at 11:16 AM
Takeaway: Fuck movie theaters.
Was it an AMC? Did anybody apologize for the inconvenience? The vouchers thing is a standard procedure. You should have angled for another voucher if you spent any money on concessions.
June 18th, 2012 at 11:26 AM
lengthy read about how a drug cartel makes billions
Just started on this now. Good so far. I enjoyed Killing Pablo so this is in my wheelhouse.
June 18th, 2012 at 12:22 PM
GolfNow is the greatest. Never pay full price if you can
