Preview of things to come for the US Open? Looks like he shot putted that ball into the catcher. Should have had him come out and chip a shot from behind the mound into the cztcher’s glove. Would have been cool.

Mayweather’s lawyers alleged that jail house food and water is of too poor quality for Mayweather to stay in shape. The boxer’s camp went so far as to claim Mayweather might have to retire after he is released because he was getting out of shape in his solitary cell.
Finally, the ultimate excuse that Floyd will use to avoid fighting Pacquiao in the future.
June 14th, 2012 at 8:57 AM
Is Jose3030 the guy who announced he was retiring from twitter?
June 14th, 2012 at 8:59 AM

I assume you’re over the age of 22 and therefore, I ask, why the hell do you watch anything other than live events on ESPN? Anything else on that network is simply garbage.
June 14th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
excellent work.
June 14th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
My bad maybe – is Berman one of the live hosts? Holy shit the sound is definitely turned off.

I’m 22 minutes in…awesome interviews and footage.
June 14th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
Excited for the change of scenery. Worried that they’ll never do better than Rome/Florence. Even the last one wasn’t quite as epic as far as the size/scope/detail of the cities.
June 14th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
I can’t believe Floyd Mayweather has so many blind acolytes.

June 14th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
I’m playing Revelations right now, kind of agree on some parts. The combat they definitely improved and can’t wait to see what they do with the hybrid tomahawks/gun play in 3.
Florence/Venice & Rome in 2 & Brotherhood were amazing cities to play though.
June 14th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
The play David Wright tried to make was an error. No reason to try and bare hand a moving ball when he could have back handed it and made a good throw to get Upton.
June 14th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
I think Van Pelt is the de facto host, but Berman and Roger Maltbie will have on-course coverage this afternoon.

Loved the Dream Team document. Stern is trying to make NBA players available for either the Olympics or the World Champion, but not both. I agree with him. NBA has to protect its assets. I hope they let NBA players play in the Olympics, though. It’s a much more high profile than the basketball world championship.

That is Casey Martin’s putter. They played a practice round together and Tiger asked if he try it out on a hole. Martin announced to the crowd “The future Tiger Woods!”.

Great sports day – US Open tee off with that big group, Game 2, Euro 2012 continues, and on a personal note my Tigers play an afternoon game at Wrigley. Plus, we’re coming off Cain’s perfect game and Stern vs. Rome.

June 14th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
Don’t know who I was more disappointed with, England or France in that match. I realize that it’s a down year for the three lions, but they have enough talent where they didn’t need to park the bus against the french. France on the other hand, didn’t really go for it once they tied the score. They should’ve won that game.
German defense, as always, scares the shit out of me. Lahm and Hummels are as good as it gets. But boateng and badstuber? Yikes. I get nervous everytime ball is anywhere near them.

June 14th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
France dominated and didn’t score. Not sure what the disappointment would be. That happens in soccer all of the time. The better team doesn’t always win. Gotta see what they do tomorrow before you can be disappointed I think.

Too early for me to pick a winner. Germany haven’t hit their stride yet, and Spain will be dangerous once they figure out how they’re gonna play. Pretty excited to see France tomorrow too.
The games have been great so far. Love that nobody’s been eliminated yet.
June 14th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Yes. The brother is an asshole. Gave an “ultimatum” to German coach that either he gets picked, or he will play for Ghana. Good riddance. Like I said, the guy is an asshole. And at the old age of 26 (I think), he has already decided to “retire” from Ghanaian team.
June 14th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
Yes. Kevin-Prince plays for Ghana (father’s home country) and Jerome plays for Germany (mother’s).
June 14th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
Games have been good. Portugal winning even without Ronaldo showing up. Wouldn’t have thought that the Netherlands would be 0-2.
June 14th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
1-1 was their best chance, so 0-2 isn’t crazy. They’re done, though. They aren’t beating Portugal by 2 goals. I do think Germany will handle Denmark, though.

June 14th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
The ball they use looks to be the old fashioned ones they had in tournaments up til 2002. Good for Adidas. They kept coming up with “state of the art” balls with supposed “pimples”, “roundest ball ever” and other gimmicks and those balls were just horrendous. No one to my knowledge has complained about the ball so far. Sometimes, simplicity is the best policy.
After two straight disastrous tournaments, I’d think they would come out like gangbuster to prove something. I don’t know. Last 10 minutes of that game was just so damn boring. Both countries playing for a draw.
June 14th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Theo Epstein just had a very interesting interview with Dennis and Callahan on WEEI. The “Bridge” comments sounded like it help bring along the spending spree. Also stated that he would like teams to be more like Packers and have fans have ownership in teams so ticket prices and salaries are regulated. Wants to see a day when his son is paid $100,000 to play MLB baseball instead of $100,000,000. Some funny comments too.

Right, like if Germany beats Denmark by 2 and NL wins by 1. NL doesn’t have to beat Portugal by 2 goals.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
id love if courses would give something like that out…just a quick printout with the green slope graphics and yardages and shit. seems like it’d be easy to make.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
That doesn’t make any sense. Of course the Germany results matter.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
I don’t think its that different from what makes people think cigarettes, coffee or alchohol to a lesser extent since its less addictive is a good idea. I mean at some point you didn’t need any of that to feel good or energetic or whatever.
I always wonder why anyone drinks coffee or smokes cigarettes for the first time, i fully understand why you continue but the voluntary acquisition of an addiction is highly puzzling.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
The Ukraine win was great to watch. Their hero scoring twice. Would love to see that team somehow sneak out of the group. I think Russia at least makes it to the Semi-Final. I think they handle Greece and have a date set with Denmark in the Quarters (with a little luck).
*Random asides: I love when players who score immediately run to celebrate with the rest of their team. Also, Ronaldo is fantastic, but anybody who actively cheers for the guy deserves to have herpes.

God, Baseketball is an awesome movie:
Robert Stack: The police have pieced together numerous theories on Coop’s whereabouts.
Douglas “Swish” Reemer: I have no fucking clue where the hell he is. For all I care he could be hanging by his neck in his fucking closet!
Robert Stack: Scenario One: He’s hanging by his neck in his fucking closet.
Jenna Reed: You want to know where Coop is? Just look for the most heinous, vile, and horrible exploitation of children on the planet.
Robert Stack: Scenario Two: Coop went to Disney World.

June 14th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
I played that course I was telling you about in Asheville (High Vista) last weekend. Best course I’ve ever played in terms of the slopes of the greens. Hell, the slopes everywhere were insane. Outside of the tee shot there wasn’t a flat shot all day. The greens were BRUTAL. I shot a 44 on the front 9 and went to complete shit on the back nine. Beautiful course, though. I’d highly recommend it.

Slow your roll dude, people start drinking coffee because they are tired and need to get through their day, and apparantly I wasnt addicted because I haven’t had caffeine in 3 weeks with no side effects.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
All of this. And there are people who think he’s better than Messi. For shame!!
June 14th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
that is so up my alley it’s not even funny. i love undulating fairways and greens…such a subtle challenge. bunkers and forced carries have their place…but you want to give a golfer a challenge, give him a sidehill lie from the fairway to a sloped green that’ll only accept a perfectly struck shot.
we’ll see a decent bit of that at olympic…can’t wait.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:17 AM

I won’t even get into that argument. Every time he doesn’t get the precise ball he wants, he just glares at a teammate or throws his hand up in disgust. I thought he was going to attack the grass because the ball took a bad hop on him. He’s the LeBron to Messi’s Durant.

June 14th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
Link? He was crying after he missed but he celebrated just fine. Actually the relief on his face after Terry missed was one of the most memorable things about the game.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
I think you gotta go lower than that. Like 7. Needs to be low enough to play legit in a mid-am.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
I just make sure to start drinking water as soon as I get up, really helps.

Course I was at yesterday had those yardage books for a buck. I chose not to buy one.
I was 3 over on the back nine (atrocious on the front) going in to 18 yesterday….needed a par to tie my best 9 ever at 39….hit a drive dead center of the fairway….hit shot 2 in the sand. 3 to get out….3 putts….fucking 8 on 18. Goddamn motherfucking golf.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Since I quit dipping my coffee consumption has gone through the roof. I also have the occassional drunken cigarette. The real question though is: when did you stop beating your wife?
June 14th, 2012 at 10:26 AM

i drink too much of it, wasn’t good for me with increased cardio activity. headaches, increased heart rate, etc.
i’ll still have coffee when i need it, it’s kicking the habit so that i don’t drink it when i don’t need it.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
You’re beginning at the end of the story my puzzlement was in regards to the start. When you start drinking coffee or consuming tobacco you don’t know whether you’re going to be addicted to it or not however by observation of the other users you know there is a good chance you will be addicted.
Lets say someone who never uses anything can get to an energy level or happiness level of 8…. with help he can get to a 9.8 however after addiction materializes there is a very good possibility that he’ll be paying more in time, money and inconvenience just to achieve the 8 that the non user can get to simply by waking up in the morning.
My point is beginning to use mood aides when assessed logically is a sub-optimal decision in the long term. As a radical logician these things puzzle me.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
Thats the most asinine thing I’ve ever heard. Add it to the list of reasons I dislike Oklahoma.
Way different.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
this…i played sunday and had one of my best rounds of the year. didn’t mishit a full shot and was relatively good scoring except on one hole. great drive, approach into bunker…left it in, left it in, left it in, chip, two putts for 8. total up my score at the end…81.
there were cuss words uttered.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
Holy shit. I don’t get how people drink multiple cups though. I drink 1 and that’s it. Anymore and my brain feels fried and I crash hard. I usually sleep like shit that night also.

June 14th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
psyllium fiber (if that’s how you spell it). drink a few scoops of that every day and in 3-4 days you’ll think coffee had no idea how to keep you regular.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
yeah but being addicted to coffee is so much less harmful than being roped to smokes.
and as far as i can tell, the main w/d symptom from coffee is a headache. though the times i’ve felt it, i’ve drunk some coffee so i don;t know if it gets worse
June 14th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
I can’t remember, but if you told me there was a player who would pout after winning the CL Final because he missed a penalty I would guess Ronaldo 9/10 times.
/Arjen Robben would be my other guess

This is golf in a nutshell. One of the guys I was playing with in Asheville shoots in the 80′s on the reg and had a 3 hole stretch of 4 putt, 3 putt, 4 putt. One of the 3 jacks was after hitting his driver 320ish to within 40 yards of the hole. He was not happy.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
What an epic flame-out. After the first sand gag you should’ve pulled the one-hitter and collected yourself.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
I started playing full time about 3 1/2 years ago, and have broken 90 maybe 6-7 times. So I had the best 9 ever going and another chance to break 90 and I pull that shit. I was so fucking pissed. Golf is the only game where you can put up a score you’d consider good for yourself and want to kick a puppy at the end of the round.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
WOW. dude…that’s a lot, even for someone with no self control like myself.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
Having little ones will kick up the need for coffee in the morning.
We are loving the Keurig right now.

June 14th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
In the context of my comment they’re similar only because they are both addictive mood regulators which after a certain while punish you for not using but only bring you up to a normal state after use.
I actually don’t think coffee contains tar and nicotine
June 14th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
Go forth and watch Tiger throw his clubs, my friends
June 14th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
My comment is still awaiting moderation but I linked to 3 pictures that show his reaction after the winning penalty. Here’s one. Here’s another. Yes, he cried like a bitch after he missed his. But the relief on his face after Terry missed is one of the things I remember most about the game. And he sprinted to the celebration just like everyone else on the team.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
This is the one thing that I’ve been cutting back on lately.

Man…I’m working on a deck with my dad at my place and my 3.5 month old has decided to all of a sudden wake up 4 times a night instead of <2 for the first 3 months of her life. I've crashed at like 9:30 every night for the past week because building a deck is exhausting and waking up at 2 and 4 every night isn't helping.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Funny because it’s true.
I went from occasionally having coffe (few times a month), to a few times a week when I started working in an office, to a couple cups a day after having a baby.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Fuck you IT, blocking my access to the Open. Fuck you squarely in the ass with barbed wire. Fucking cocksuckers are probably in there looking at motherless all day, too.

I haven’t had any soft drinks in like 10+ years. Stuff is awful on every level. Kick the soda=instantly drop like 5-10 lbs and feel a lot better all the time.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
almost the exact same story for me on Sunday. I would have shot mid-80′s had I not scored a triple and a quad on 2 of the last 4 holes. in the water twice on 17. fucking brutal.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:36 AM

June 14th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
Don’t get me wrong….it feels good to know that you are so close to breaking through to being decent on the reg….but fuck….I literally could have punched Betty White after that stunt yesterday. Did the same thing about 3 weeks ago. (Fucked up a good round…not punched Betty White)
June 14th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
wow. when I first graduated college and wasn’t drinking coffee yet I used to put down a 6 pack of Coke a day. Then I went to the dentist and he told me my teeth would rot out in a year if I didn’t quit. I know diet soda is different, but damn.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:39 AM

we only buy it for a treat for the kids. only time i drink it is at the movies. cherry coke, large popcorn, makes you right
June 14th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
tell me about it. I also missed 3 par putts that were under 10′. my best score ever, on a legit course, is 87. I would have beat that by 3 or 4 strokes had I even fucked up half the shots that I did.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
and as soon as you get decent on the reg, you immediately start thinking about how you’ll be great on the reg and the cycle starts all over again.

And Randy Johnson and Sandy Koufax.

i’d take johnson over humber
June 14th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
I believe so.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
oh don’t…that’s when it gets AWESOME.
last three rounds have been between 82-84 and my highest in the past two months is 87…and it’s all wasted shots around the greens. leaving 10 feet instead of 3 on long putts and chips, leaving shots in the bunkers…breaking 80 consistently IS SO CLOSE, i can taste it. makes me wanna practice all day everyday.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Looking at that course, I wouldn’t be shocked if the winning score was +2.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Check that…he lost his ball.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
Phil is 130 out and needs an up and down for bogey.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
Uh, thanks. I hope I look better than SVG. Not too worried about aspartame/cancer stuff. Hope I’m right, but so far I’m amazingly healthy for my age.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
And he just hit it within 8-10 feet and will have a shot at bogey.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
i put odds of this at 60%.
June 14th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
@spence: used those Bridgestones at a work outing on Tuesday. Loved em, and won the long drive. I’d give you a cut but I already spent it all at the pro shop. Next time.

The cancer stuff is hit or miss, there’s no way to know and everybody is different. What really motivated me to cut back on diet soda is the artificial sweetners. Lots of data out there that suggest it fools your body into producing insulin when none is needed and converts glucogen into fat stores.

I picked him as my alternate. it was between starting him or Bubba, and I went with Bubba.

I’m not even a golf junkie, but agree with you 100%
June 14th, 2012 at 11:24 AM
Hire some dude you’ve never heard of, or maybe Spencer.

June 14th, 2012 at 11:27 AM
Reporter: Phil, have you ever made a 3 foot putt in your life?
Phil: That’s a clown question, bro.

June 14th, 2012 at 11:29 AM
par the course for phil…birdies will come on 16-18 when everyone else is bogeying.
June 14th, 2012 at 11:32 AM
Phil will make a late charge on Friday to make the weekend, get into contention with a 68 on Saturday, then wilt on Sunday when he’s paired with Zach Johnson.

You have a Hoofer Mint?
June 14th, 2012 at 11:35 AM
Anybody have experience with these hybrids?
Price looks right and i need more consistency with my 4 iron. Currently playing Callaway X-18 and hitting 210 when struck solid (60% of the time).
June 14th, 2012 at 11:36 AM
No, but if you want a standbag they’re hard to top.
I carry a Nike Sasquatch 14-way I bought on clearance a couple years ago. If I bought one today it’d be a Sun Mountain Four 5.
June 14th, 2012 at 11:36 AM
ive heard they’re long…check out mygolfspy.com for a review.
June 14th, 2012 at 11:38 AM
“Phil Mickelson”
June 14th, 2012 at 11:43 AM
Spencer, have you ever tried one of these? A wood-head is the most awesome putter I’ve ever handled. I can’t even describe the feel.
June 14th, 2012 at 11:44 AM
I have this one. Love it. Very long, real good feel.
June 14th, 2012 at 11:44 AM
ive tried a wood one…they feel awesome.
June 14th, 2012 at 11:46 AM
Sounds like a typical round for me, except substitute “low 90s” for mid-80s.
June 14th, 2012 at 11:49 AM
ALso, I was rather late to the party today (damn you, gainful employment), but kudos for turning the Roundup into a golf post!
June 14th, 2012 at 11:52 AM
ah…my golf spy did the vr pro ii, not the victory red. vr pro ii looks awesome, MP…i need a new hybrid. the cleveland one i got is ok…too much offset (and it’s the tour version too). shaft is phenomenal tho…gonna put it in whatever new hybrid i pick up.
June 14th, 2012 at 11:57 AM
What do you do when you’re a shitty band with no talent? Get a fuckton of strippers to be in your video.

June 14th, 2012 at 11:59 AM
there isn’t much difference between bands like that and boy bands.
June 14th, 2012 at 11:59 AM
I was never a big hybrid guy but I wanted something versatile that I could hit 220+ off the fairway or out of the rough. I must have demo’d 20 different clubs and this had the best feel in my price range. I didn’t have much experience with Project X shafts but I prefer stiff (no coop) and this already had the 6.0 on it and felt good so I bought it on the spot.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:00 PM
You mean the formuliac structure, or the female attraction?
June 14th, 2012 at 12:00 PM
nike’s current VR lineup is seriously fucking good. way underrated.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:01 PM
both and the makeup.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:08 PM
Concur–but only for good players. Very forgiving crown to sole, but horrible heel to toe.
All you guys shooting 90 and higher–quit trying to get better on your own AND TAKE A FUCKING LESSON. You’ll never get better. Never. Unless you count 85-90 as better. And it isn’t.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:11 PM

GC-Do you think a single-digit handicapper (7.5) would get the same benefit from a lesson? Haven’t had one in many years.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:15 PM
I really hope this goes to extra holes. I may call in sick on Monday if it does.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:15 PM
I have some 2007 Nickent hybrids in the garage. They are ok, but i bought fairway woods (Nike Dymo) that I hit much better so the hybrids now overlap (too strong, 15 and 18). I need a reasonably priced 200-210 yard club to bridge between my 5 wood (220) and 5 iron (185-190).
I have to cheap out on clubs (damn baby). I try not to pay more than $50-75. This usually leaves me a year or two behind.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:16 PM
that’s a great idea…even greater would be dvr’ing it and playing 18 too.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:17 PM
nothing wrong with that…sure you miss out on something like the RBZ fairways, but a three year old hybrid is still totally fine.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:38 PM
yes yes yes yes. If nothing else–3 a year. Spring, to get looked at.Mid-season, to get the bad habits out. Fall, to get lined out for less swings in the winter. Good players take MANY more lessons than crappy ones. Not a coincidence. Without lessons you will try to deal with the symptoms while ignoring the disease.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:40 PM
19* 5 wood and 27* 5 iron. That’s an easy gap to fill. Get a 23 or 24* hybrid.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:41 PM
Spence, good link to Streel’s book. The good ones to look at are the CADDY books, with all the notes. Streel’s caddies book form Augusta is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:45 PM
was that on golfwrx or did you see it in person? just more detail like yardages to ends of bunkers, carries, etc?
June 14th, 2012 at 12:48 PM
Courtesy of google.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:48 PM
ive seen that before…im assuming the caddy’s book is different.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:49 PM
With notes.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:51 PM
wow…that’s excellent.
June 14th, 2012 at 12:52 PM
i wonder what the caddy’s book said for bubba’s shot this year or charl schwartzel’s chip-in on 1 in 2011.
June 14th, 2012 at 1:26 PM
I love the notes. “not too bad” long of a #2, “ALL SHOTS RELEASE R-L” on #3, “CHECK WIND FOR #12!” in the middle of 11 fairway,
