Euro 2012: Germany vs. The Netherlands
Germany vs. the Netherlands. The rivals have met seven times in European or World Cup competition. In the 1974 World Cup Final, the famed Germany side of Beckenbauer/Muller dispatched the famed Holland side of Cryuff 2-1. The Netherlands came from behind to beat the Germans 2-1 in Hamburg to advance to the Euro 1988 Final. Then of course, there was the Frank Rijkaard/Rudi Voller incident in the 1990 World Cup.
The Germans were lucky. Their performance against Portugal was composed, but tentative and unspectacular. They got the header from Gomez and some fortune in front of their own goal mouth for the win. Interestingly, Loew did not throw on his talented young attackers to break the stalemate late in the match. Potentially, Germany is a more robust, versatile version of Spain. Even a pedestrian effort was enough to beat Portugal.
Holland got its tactics right against Denmark, creating a disturbing number of chances (courtesy of Wesley Sneijder in particular) that went unfulfilled. Of their 32 shots, just five were on target. Robin Van Persie scuffed chances and tripped over his own feet. Posited savior Klaas Jan Huntelaar came on late, and did nothing more than break up the smooth buildup play. The finishing must be better, but if it is we should see why many tipped them to win the tournament.
Portugal beating Denmark helps the Dutch. Presuming the most likely outcome, Germany beating Denmark in the final leg. The Dutch could go through with a result here and a win against Portugal. A loss would eliminate themplace them in a minileague should they beat Portugal and Germany beat Denmark.

Burn Germany. Go Netherlands!
June 13th, 2012 at 2:35 PM
Not happy with how we’ve played over last 5-6 matches. I still retain hope for a 2-1 Germany win.

Germany: Neuer, Badstuber, Hummels, Lahm, Boateng, Schweinsteiger, Khedira, Podolski, Müller, Gomez, Özil
Netherlands: Stekelenburg, Mathijsen, Heitinga, Willems, Van Der Wiel, De Jong, Van Bommel, Afellay, Robben, Van Persie, Sneijder
June 13th, 2012 at 2:41 PM
Is there a place to watch these if you can’t access ESPN or watchESPN at work?
June 13th, 2012 at 2:44 PM
So Podolski still starts. Was hoping to see Kroos or Goetze.
And I hate when the Netherlands play van Bommel and de Jong together. Would have preferred van der Vaart. Or pull a midfielder and add Huntelaar.

Is this where the Naughty Names for Chips meeting is being held?

@cleet: I can’t find any while at work. But moleman and sousedbergin can usually link to a good one.

Here we go.
Pretty sure I am going to just build one of these streaming sites in HTML 5 and changed my name to Soused DotCom and ball out.
It is ethical to cheer for Nazi grandchildren if you have a $5 dollar bet on them. Go Krauts!
June 13th, 2012 at 2:51 PM
Thanks soused. Next round is on me.

Van Persie with a couple of good chances early.
June 13th, 2012 at 2:59 PM
The Dutch wouldn’t necessarily be eliminated with a loss to Germany. If they beat Portugal by 2 and Denmark loses to Germany, Oranje would advance.

Löw is pissed.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:05 PM
Robben bleeding from the head? Nice.

Giants, Coughlin unhappy after Patriots claim TE Jake Ballard off waivers a day after release
That’s funny.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:06 PM
That depends on the final score today.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:08 PM
Fuck. Goal.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:09 PM
Not mathematically, but mentally they sure would be. The locker room is a ticking time bomb.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:10 PM
Love it. Great goal.
These streaming sites are terrible and built by children.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:12 PM
Quite the opposite as I collect on my bet that a goal would be scored in the first 30 minutes.
Now, let’s hit that OVER (2.5 goals).

Even the best of them, like FirstRow and ATDHE, are not very good. I gave up on them over the winter, broke down and got cable.

June 13th, 2012 at 3:22 PM
Holy shit what a save.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:23 PM
Wow. Germany doing whatever they want.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:23 PM
Welp, the Dutch are crashing out of this tournament hard.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:24 PM
Dutch 2012 Euro performance looking a lot like the French 2010 World Cup performance.

Nazi Supermen Are Our Superiors!
The feeds are slowed down with poor site design, flash banners and thousands of lines of code making their own feed proprietary (unable to be shared video only).
Funny the cable companies suck because of inaccessible business model for content and these stream sites are doing the same, sacrificing user experience for control.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:27 PM
That was a great finish by Gomez.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:32 PM
1st half pwnage.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:32 PM
Holy crap I hope Chelsea buy van der Wiel.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:42 PM
Did the Dutch also stab their coach in the back and toss him out of the plane on the long ride home?
June 13th, 2012 at 3:44 PM
Domenech deserved everything he got.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:45 PM
The media will do that for them. He’ll be fired before the other groups finish.
June 13th, 2012 at 3:47 PM
Well, unsurprisingly Huntelaar and Van der Vaart have come on.
June 13th, 2012 at 4:06 PM
This is pretty boring. Disappointing.
June 13th, 2012 at 4:15 PM
And van Persie makes me eat shit for taking him off of my fantasy team. Figures. 2-1 now.
June 13th, 2012 at 4:20 PM
Back in it.
