Bryce Harper Has No Time For Your Clown Question, Bro
Bryce Harper and the Washington Nationals are in Toronto for a series against the Blue Jays. The Nationals beat the Jays 4-2 and Harper went 3-for-4 with a home run in his Canadian debut. After the game, a reporter pointed out that he was old enough to have a celebratory beer in Canada. Harper gets the “you trying to get me into trouble?” look and someone off-camera – presumably a team PR guy – tells him not to answer. Harper then gave the immortal response, “That’s a clown question, bro.” A meme was born. [WaPo]

I watched the whole interview. This kid has it figured out.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
dumb question…off the charts dumb…TMZ dumb…..
June 13th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Awesome.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:13 AM
I’d like to make fun of Harper here, and he’s given folks plenty to make fun of him over, but I can’t kill him for this. That question was off the charts stupid.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:13 AM
Goes w/ the clown haircut you’re sporting bro.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
Speaking of face painting……………….
June 13th, 2012 at 11:15 AM
I like this kid, brash, doesn’t give a F….he plays the game hard and is actually living up to his hype so far
haters gonna hate
June 13th, 2012 at 11:16 AM
Smart answer there Harper…still like Trout better.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
I like Harper so far, or at least he has not acted the way I thought he would when entered the MBL. His minor league actions, spoke otherwise, but maybe he’s coming to his senses.
Maybe a question better answered by the Insane Clown Posse????
June 13th, 2012 at 11:19 AM
Looks like he’s been watching Russell Westbrook’s podium games.
/ no more questions for you, bro.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:19 AM
I predict this will be invoked at least a dozen times today on this site in reference to a post by the EIC.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:21 AM
What actions?
June 13th, 2012 at 11:21 AM
I watched this video with the sound off, and just judging from his facial expressions, Harper appears to be a douche on a level with John Kruk.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:22 AM
Both are going to dominate for the next 15 years.

Blow Me a Kiss
Harper, an elite prospect who plays for Class A Hagerstown (Md.) in the Washington Nationals organization, went into a protracted home run trot in the sixth inning Monday night that featured him blowing a kiss to Greensboro pitcher Zachary Neal just before touching home plate.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:24 AM
Seems totally reasonable.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:27 AM
I forgot about that. But whatever, that’s kinda awesome.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:29 AM
I can’t watch the video while at work but how is pointing out that a 19 yr old kid can have a beer in Canada a question? Couldn’t he just have said “thanks for pointing that out” and moved on?
June 13th, 2012 at 11:29 AM
The appropriate response would have been “Homey don’t play dat”
June 13th, 2012 at 11:29 AM
Or they could become this guy.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:30 AM
Yes. Ask the Mormon kid if he is going to have a drink.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:33 AM
The horror! Won’t someone FOR ONCE just think of the children!!!!!!
June 13th, 2012 at 11:33 AM
Didn’t stop Andy Reid’s kids…
June 13th, 2012 at 11:34 AM
Really starting to like this kid. Jealous of his talent still, but I really like this kid. Handled this like a pro. All the other questions for that matter too. He’s fun to watch.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:34 AM
MLB hasn’t had the best press lately with players and alcohol, good of him to move on and not address it.

McQueary’s dad doing his best to let Sandusky walk.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:37 AM
When this team gets Werth and Storen back, they could very well start putting some distance between them and the Braves/Marlins. I don’t trust the Mets to keep pace and the Phillies could be selling off parts by then. Nationals have a very bright future.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:37 AM
Ahh, good point.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:38 AM
Victorino and Hamels should be gone by 7/31 if current pace holds. Hopefully RAJ joins the unemployment line sooner than that.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:39 AM
Yes, yes they do. Watching them play the Red Sox over the weekend really illustrated that for me. Their starting pitching is nasty.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:40 AM
This might actually work better because he looks a little like Clark. And they both look like Cowboy Mouth’s Fred LeBlanc, another douchetastic dude.
That said, douchiness doesn’t prevent me from appreciating skill. I wouldn’t want to have a beer with Barry Bonds, but I loved watching him hit.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:40 AM
That doesn’t seem like it is something easy to forget. Maybe he also forgot his son telling him he saw full penetration.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:41 AM
Tony C — he had a head for the game.

How do you stop a Mormon from drinking all your beer at a party?
Invite a second Mormon.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:45 AM
For sure. Have to think Gio regresses a little bit but he’s been on point. Strasburg’s inning total will creep up and you’ve got to wonder how it’s handled should they make the postseason. I like Zimmerman but he leaves a lot of fastballs up in the strikezone and in the later innings when his velocity tapers off, he starts giving up taters. Edwin Jackson keeps churning out quality starts even though he’s only got 3 wins on the season.
Average age of the staff is only 27. They’ve got the 5th lowest walk total in the NL, with a lot of them coming from a patchwork bullpen hurt by injury. 3rd in Ks and leading the league with a collective ERA+ of 136. They allow the least amount of baserunners and give up the fewest HR per 9 of any team in the NL.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:47 AM
Awww, come on man. That’s just unecessary.
Better analogies would be Bobby Crosby or Bob Hamelin.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:48 AM
What ever happened to that guy? Cliff Pennington is one of the worst Major League hitters I’ve seen in some time. The A’s need a shortstop. Bad.
And what about the kid from San Diego that was a shortstop and got Zack Greinke disease? He ended up on the Cardinals for a while but I can’t remember his name. Looked like Sunshine from Remember the Titans.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:52 AM
False. Neither of those guys was a top prospect, and neither had as much talent. Hamelin was a DH as a rookie. He sucked.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:53 AM
Khalil Greene.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:57 AM
Hamelin was a DH as a rookie. He sucked.

I was just naming guys who exploded on the scene and then flamed out fairly quickly.
June 13th, 2012 at 11:58 AM
Yeah, look at the list of Rookie of the Year winners. You’ll see a lot of names you don’t remember.

That’s a clown comment, bro.
June 13th, 2012 at 12:05 PM
I really wanted to hate this kid and thought I would. His whole persona coming to the show was absolutely douche-tastic. But I just can’t. Love the effort, love how he shoved Cole Hamels’ bean-ball up his ass by stealing home. Good bat, good glove, good arm.
Until he shows up a pitcher by taking a homerun trot backwards, I’m not gonna hate.
June 13th, 2012 at 12:12 PM
Harper was called a “motherfucker” by the pitcher and was cussing out his Hagerstown teammates the whole game. I think blowing a kiss after you hit a bomb off of a loud mouth is pretty bad ass…not cocky.

That might make me… propose marriage to him
