There are principals of attack, defense, set plays (defending and attacking), and transition (into defense or attack) that are applied in different areas of the field in different game situations.

If you have ever sat in on a high level teams training sessions and team meetings and then watched their game in person, you would know tactics matter and this isn’t all just random. It is like jazz music, in that there are definate begginings, ends, and middle parts that everyone is together on, and there are parts where it is improvised over a general framework that you train to adapt to.
