I can’t tell whether its out of pure enjoyment or trolling hockey fans, but TBL (both here and on twitter) has not shied away from any opportunity to bring light to any real or perceived lack of popularity of hockey. Similar to this post, where TBL’s lack of knowledge of the subject matter is proven within a few comments, these shots at hockey’s popularity don’t really hold much merit. Clearly hockey’s ratings fall into this site’s 1/3 sports media mantra, but the selective use of information to feed your now stale argument is reminiscent of the hackneyed style of Cowherd (who you have gradually come to idolize, to the bewilderment of us longtime readers). Most of all, it’s just disappointing.

Too bad NBC couldn’t care less about ratings today since they’ve been sold out of advertising for weeks for the Belmont and NHL game tonight. But I don’t want to ruin the narrative with facts.

So how many weekday NBA playoff games have been on ABC?

None. But this is the Stanley Cup Finals. Just like the NBA Finals will be on ABC during the week.

Thing is, ESPN can switch games between ABC and ESPN and people will find it because ESPN is ubiquitous. But NBC Sports isn’t anywhere near that level — I’d say it’s not even in the Fox Sports Affiliate or Speed Channel range. Putting Games 3-4 on there killed any interest folks may have had for it.

A potential Stanley Cup elimination game involving teams from the two biggest TV markets, New York and LA!

Do your research, Shutton. The Kings and Devils have two of the worst five local market draws in hockey. This was absolutely the worst possible scenario for the NHL ratings wise from the get go.
