Danish Dynamite meets the Clockwork Oranje. It’s a rematch of the Euro 1992 semifinal. Henrik Larsen scored twice for Denmark, matching the efforts of Rijkaard and Bergkamp for the Dutch. The Danes won 5-4 on penalties and went on to win the final.

The Danes are not that bad, just overmatched by the three other teams in Group B. Barring a Whatever People Say I Am… level tournament debut from young playmaker Christian Eriksen, the Danes won’t advance. They are certainly capable, though, of earning a shock result and dragging that down with them.

The Dutch are here to win the tournament. To do so, they must find an equilibrium between attack and defense, facilitating their stars up front just enough while maintaining responsibility at the back. Holland nearly did it in South Africa, though one wonders whether this squad’s window has closed.
