8.2% doesn’t seem so bad compared to what an austerity economy would bring on.

What I don’t understand is why the Fed won’t do a goddamn thing to stimulate growth. Month after month after month Bernake strolls over to the podium to announce….nothing. The Fed can operate outside of our revolting Congress, yet it doesn’t. The boldest move the Fed made outside of QE in recent years is cutting interest rates. Wow, inspired.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:12 AM
If he cuts his drops in half I’d consider that a win regardless of yardage gained.
He’s overrated. And I meant to clarify that the 400 would come in two games. The rest will be distributed in 35 yard increments the rest of the season in single coverage.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:12 AM
the GOP is all about adopting european economic policies which have failed miserably
I’m pretty sure Dems passed Obamacare and the Porkulus. And propped up Solyndra and other Green job failures. But it’s the GOP that wants to try the failed European ideas. How did Greece get into the position it is in to have to cut costs? Over spending. Thankfully Wisconsin got it right.

Thankfully GOP superPACs enabled Walker to outspend his rival 7 to 1 in Wisconsin to buy another election, one that happened two years ahead of schedule because so many of his constituents hated him that they wanted him out immediately.
I love how the unions picked the fight and then griped about how it went down. Whine much?
June 8th, 2012 at 9:20 AM
It’s Friday, save the political talk which will lead to both sides learning absolutely nothing for a day when everyone is miserable.

Not trying to turn this into a flame war, but people who still think the stimulus was a failure should get beat to death with clubs fashioned from Atlas Shrugged and Paul Ryan’s budget. They’re as nuts as birthers.
The only thing that sucked about the stimulus was that it wasn’t bigger. And the useless tax cuts. Those hurt, too.

That’s most of it, yeah. And it’s only federal income tax. And it doesn’t take into account all the other taxes people in that income bracket pay — state tax, sales tax, occupational tax, etc.
Personally, I’d rather have corporations and multinationals pay what they owe first before going after poor people. But I’m crazy like that.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
i think that’s the motivating factor. It would be great if Gronk repeats last season, i doubt he will, but they might as well pay him more now rather than a contentious negotiations for “respect” money in 2-3 years.

The bailout should have been bigger? Hilarious. This country doesn’t spend enough. That’s a good one. We had a balanced budget under Clinton because he spent big but also taxed us big so it evened out. Then we had a repub in Bush who spent like a Democrat and ran a disorganized war like a democrat but lowered the taxes. A tax system that Clinton wants extended by the way. Solution: cut spending, not raise taxes.

It’s my experience that walkers can typically play faster than those in carts, particularly for a) mid to high handicappers and b) courses which confine carts to the path.
I can also easily break the 2 hour mark for walking 18 holes if I’m solo.

Arkansas pitching is awesome, that is what keeps them in games. unfortunately there offense is so anemic that most games they play in are closer than they should be. June 8th, 2012 at 9:55 AM
“8.2% doesn’t seem so bad compared to what an austerity economy would bring on.”
This is such a dumb statement. Greece isn’t where they are due to austerity. And the Baltic states are a conveniently forgotten example of how austerity does, in fact, work.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
Fair bet to make. Teams are sometimes cautious in the opening match of a tournament.
If betting, I would take Poland over Greece and bet on the Czechs and Russians drawing.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
As long as we (Tottenham) got like £15-20 million for him, I’m okay with that.
Might the Spurs use some of that to go after Dempsey?
June 8th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
Just got a sweet new Ogio stand bag for this purpose.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
/masturbates furiously
@geoff: I think it will be around £25mil. Good for both sides.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
how is that even possible? I can barely play that fast in a cart. that is some serious speed play.
I like walking b/c you you can think about your shot along the way. With cart-path only – it’s possible you’re spending more time driving+walking than walking.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:57 AM
Austerity is the severe tightening of a nation’s budget. Unfortunately, history has shown that what it ends up doing is restricting the economy, and putting the nation in a downward spiral and stagnant GDP.

June 8th, 2012 at 9:57 AM
“Read Keynes. Then come back and recant.”
I have. I’m also familiar with history, which has pretty thoroughly disproved Keynes. I’ve also read Friedman. Have you? Are you familiar with the history which proves him right and Keynes wrong.
Sheezus, bunch of fake economists up in this place.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:58 AM
That comparison doesn’t exactly work because you’re taking about a set of countries that were changing over from a communist system to a market-based one. So sure, extreme austerity can work if you basically blow the whole thing up, which is what the Baltic States did. We’re not the Baltic States.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:58 AM
And by “I think” I obviously mean that’s what everyone’s saying.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:58 AM
Can’t wait until other disabled folks start suing for inclusion and rule changes in other sports.
Boxers with glasses?
June 8th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Baylor’s record is built on the backs of a bunch of pansies.
DO some research, then retract your statement. we won 24 in a row, and mowed over some good teams. OKLA was our only krytonite, and they are in a super regional.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Tottenham are going to lose Modric, Bale, VdV, and already lost Adebayor and Saha.
Goooooooooooooodbye top eight for Spurs!!!
June 8th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
I doubt it, though I’d love to have him on the team. Considering we already have Rafael van der Vaart, I’m not sure how Dempsey would fit in.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Very simple, when the economy goes well you can protract government spending, when the economy goes to shit you increase gov’t spending (infrastructure, social safety net). You need to protect consumers. Stagnant wages and layoffs lead to consumer debt and less spending, less spending means less production and less jobs.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
for the most part I agree. my course has 90* rule, so that helps. but it also has a lot of guys that walk slow as shit, zig-zaging across the fairway. I don’t have a problem with walkers at all, I have a push cart. I just hate slow players that don’t allow people to play through. my course is usually pretty busy so it bottlenecks pretty easily.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Good Will Hunting is now commenting at TBL
June 8th, 2012 at 10:00 AM
He wants Champions League. He cannot get that in England, he’s much better off moving to Germany at this point.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:00 AM
No evidence yet that we’ll lose VdV. Teams will come calling for Bale but they’ll have to spend £50 million to get him.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:01 AM
This ^^^. I was gonna type that, but my fingers didn’t. Now that the cat’s out of the bag, I’m thinking a nice set of 34C’s would skyrocket her to the top of the list.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
I am a 16 handicap so 3:10- 3:30 is my norm walking a moderately hilly course. If I was a 8-12 handicap, I’d bet that’d be cloesr to 2:45 per round. I still have some terrible shots I have to go locate and some extra shots due to not being that good.
I’d imagine a scratch golfer could walk in under 2:45 with no issues, ever.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
Which one? Guy I play with has the ClicGear. It’s badass. I’m not playing enough to buy one of those though.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:03 AM
And what’s funny is that judging from most of the comments around here, you conflate what Keyens wrote with what Thomas Friedman says Keyens wrote, which are, in fact, two totally different things.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:03 AM
Which German CL squad would want him, though? I can only guess Schalke. Mönchengladbach is not the kind of team to spend on a 29 year old; moreover, I bet they finish like 8th in the Bundesliga next season. Dortmund has a windfall of attacking players and there’s no way Dempsey is going to Bayern.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:03 AM
He’s spoken about moving to both Germany and Italy. He’s the most replaceable, though. Would be a good piece of business.
That’s adorable that you think that. Spurs have zero leverage. He’ll go for 35 tops.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:03 AM
Does your history not include deregulation and the derivative markets?
(whispers) because that just happened.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:04 AM
Arkansas pitching is awesome, that is what keeps them in games. unfortunately there offense is so anemic that most games they play in are closer than they should be.
Good news – I was right – OK beat Baylor 5 outta 5 and only once did Baylor score more than 2 runs.
Their record just isn’t that good against top teams – not sure how they’re given the #4 ranking other than splitting with TX.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:04 AM
Not quite the same as he didn’t force a rule change like Martin did.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:04 AM
Yeah, because people don’t grow or change over the course of four or five years.
Royce has made mistakes, but he’s owned them and been impressively forthright about his mental issues. This isn’t just image-rehab stuff either, he has really been one of the more unique people I’ve ever seen.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
Folks said the same thing last year about Modric yet he remained on the team. As for VdV, I wouldn’t be heartbroken to lose him though it would still suck.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
Correct. Higher taxes for everyone, less spending across the board. It’s incredible that this hasn’t been an advocated policy by a major political figure.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
well, the first standard of etiquette is to let the faster players behind you go through, even if you aren’t certain they are faster.
It’s amazing how poorly most courses fail to manage the player experience with proper expectations and on course rangering.
Most rangers everywhere act like ex-cops or TSA screeners with inflated sense of self-vale. Assholes, all of them.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:06 AM
“Does your history not include deregulation and the derivative markets?”
And I suppose you’re going to tell me that the massive government involvement in the housing market played no role in everything that just happened? So, no, that was not a result of “deregulation.”
June 8th, 2012 at 10:06 AM
He could replace Kagawa at Dortmund. Schalke would be a good fit.
No way. Granit Xhaka immediately makes them a contender.
I don’t think Germany is a perfect fit but he said he wants CL and nobody in England could fit him.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
I logged on to a sports blog and just realized I’m back in my ECON 002 class.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
Wait, we’re saying that the father of trickle-down economics — one of the biggest frauds in the history of the modern world — has been proven right by that same history? Holy shit snacks.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
I enjoy political irony.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
DO some research, then retract your statement. we won 24 in a row, and mowed over some good teams.
I’ll give you 24 in a row. No matter who you play, that’s pretty incredible. Sweeping A&M is a big deal.
But look at the records of most of them. Kansas, Kansas St., Missou – a bunch of .500 teams. Just facts.
I’m not retracting shit.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
“Correct. Higher taxes for everyone, less spending across the board. It’s incredible that this hasn’t been an advocated policy by a major political figure.”
Well, higher taxes have a negative impact on the economy judging by recorded history. And the next time either of these two parties actually sticks to a pledge of actually cutting spending will be the first. Bush and Obama both spend like drunken sailors. There’s no real difference between the parties when they are in power.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Not quite the same as he didn’t force a rule change like Martin did.
Martin didnt want a rule change, he simply asked for the disabilities act to be recognized. Pritorious had to go to the world court of sport for a ruling.
Not sure why you are hating on people with disabilities. Why is this such a thing for you? Im curious.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Yeah and you rejected a £40 million offer for him and are now going to get between twenty and twenty five. Bale will go to City if they come in for him. Harry is gone too.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Their record just isn’t that good against top teams – not sure how they’re given the #4 ranking other than splitting with TX.
now you are just trying to bait me, because this is a dipshit statement.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
SOMEONESAYGOLF!?!?!?!?
June 8th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
If Tottenham were smart they would tell City “Give us ten million pounds, Adam Johnson, Dzeko, and De Jong. Bale is yours.”
June 8th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
Damn, looks like I missed a LOT of fun political banter this morning!
People love to conveniently leave out the Community Reinvestment Act, and our best buds Fannie and Freddie…
June 8th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Time for a scooby snack, and a disco nap.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
I was looking at France and Italy too but I can’t find a CL team taht would be a good fit. I don’t really know anything about Montpellier and PSG seem to have their sights set a little higher (Lavezzi, Berbatov, Ibra?).
June 8th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
People love to conveniently leave out the Community Reinvestment Act, and our best buds Fannie and Freddie…
or the fact that clinton passed the bill ( i think in 99) to make housing available to EVERYONE, which invariably led to the CDOs.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
I wasn’t aware that Xhaka scored goals at the same rate as Marco Reus.
I will say this, though: Switzerland has some exciting youngsters. Xhaka, Xherdan Shaqiri, Eren Derdiyok, and others could lead the Swiss the great things. Ironically, most are the children of immigrants (mostly Turkish or Albanian), playing for the country that actually banned the construction of minarets.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
First off, what? Clinton had higher tax rates than Bush and the economy boomed while he balanced the budget. Tax rates were pushing 90 percent in the roaring 20s.
The massive, undeniable difference is that Obama spent for a reason — to nail the country out of the results of Bush’s horrific economic and foreign policies. Bush spent because he followed Republican dogma. Obama spent to fix a problem. That’s a bit of a generalization, but only a bit.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
now you are just trying to bait me, because this is a dipshit statement.
now you are just trying to bait me, because this is a dipshit statement.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
How am I hating on people with disabilities? That’s a bit of a stretch.
I am not in favor of the rule change in Martin’s case, is that hating? The post from the other day just brought it back up. Settle down.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
Bitch please.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:15 AM
Bale will go to City if they come in for him. Harry is gone too.
Not quite on the same level, but it would be to replace Balotelli who’s surely gone, right?
June 8th, 2012 at 10:15 AM
I think City would want to give us Adebayor, not Dzeko. But I’d obviously prefer Dzeko. But we probably couldn’t afford the Bosnian.
I’d go for Johnson, Vladimír Weiss, and £20-25 million for Bale. Two wingers for one.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
He’ll set more up. He’s going to be one of the best players in Europe. They also got Hoillet on a free, he is a perfect fit for the Bundesliga. They’ll be in contention for a CL spot without a doubt. Schalke are more likely to drop off.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
a Sun Mountain. I like it, besides the lack of storage/cooler space. my bag can only hold a couple cans/bottles. thankfully water is pretty plentiful on my course. shit, I may walk tomorrow* after all this talk.
*probably still won’t walk tomorrow.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
I don’t know what team would even consider buying that headcase. Maybe Milan or Inter? That would have to be about it among big teams on the continent, solely because he’s Italian.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
That did not invariably lead to CDOs. CDOs were synthetics invented by deregulated financial institutions to continue the practice of making money by conning the rest of the world. They knowingly bundled shitty mortgages together with some good ones to fool the ratings agencies and then pump the debt overseas.
Everyone in this discussion who thinks the government caused the recession should take two weeks and read Confidence Men by Ron Suskind. It’s not kind of Obama, but it sheds a lot of light on how utterly despicable the financial sector became over the last 15-20 years and how that cesspool culture directly caused the collapse. The government certainly played a role (rolling back Glass-Stegal, for one) but the financial services sector of major investment banks were the primary villains.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
what rule did Martin change? That the USGA shouldn’t discriminate against people with disabilities?
June 8th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
I doubt it. Inter can’t afford him and if Milan sell Pato they’ll go after someone bigger.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:20 AM
Wow, that’s actually a fantastic move, especially on a free. Alright, you’ve convinced me that they might be able to hang around the top of the table.
Then maybe that’s a team that would be interested in Dempsey. I don’t know what formation they typically play but it would be interesting to have him sit behind Huntelaar (if he doesn’t go elsewhere).
June 8th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
ummm, that he be allowed to use a cart?
June 8th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
I looked at those carts. Good to be aware of, thanks. At this time, not sure if I have room in my Elantra’s trunk for one of those but good to know all the same.
What I need to do is walk a round with one as a test to see how better I feel afterwards…
June 8th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
em>Rich people need incentives pay them more!
Poor people need incentives pay them less!
Social Safety Net Smash, GOP SMASH ROOOOARR
You are soooooo not getting invited to the Catalina wine mixer, bro!
Solution: cut spending, not raise taxes.
I really think the solution is both.
Exactly. If politicians and people are really serious about eliminating the deficit (cause they sure as shit raise enough ruckus over it), then cutting back on things AND raising taxes has to be done.
Well, higher taxes have a negative impact on the economy judging by recorded history.
The economy under President Dwight Eisenhower would like to have a word with you… BTW: Eisenhower – greatest Republican president of the 20th century. Sorry, Mr. Reagan.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Obama much less so, actually.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
I mapped my 9-hole round (walking) at my home course on my iPhone Sunday… 2.89 miles.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
Teddy wants a word.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
Yep.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
See I see what happened in the Martin case as the USGA had to stop discriminating against disabled people, not change a rule.
It’s not like people are taking carts everywhere in USGA events as a result.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
He picked England to win it. Every time I think of that, I chuckle.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
That did not invariably lead to CDOs. CDOs were synthetics invented by deregulated financial institutions to continue the practice of making money by conning the rest of the world
yes, they did. i should have been more specific, though. they led to large scale mortgage backed CDOs, which are the most toxic and worst underwritted of all CDOs.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:27 AM
underwritten
June 8th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
I’m confused. Granted, the deficit is not increasing by as high as RATE, but it is increasing by a larger AMOUNT. And the real deficit albatross – the health care bill – conveniently doesn’t kick in until 2014.
So, really, they are actually all horrible.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
He sued the PGA Tour, not sure about the USGA portion.
I just feel that the fatigue of walking is a crucial part of the game. Walking 18 for 4 days straight (6-7 miles ea.) coupled with the stress of performing is a bitch, and certainly leads to some folks choking down the stretch.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
BTW: Eisenhower – greatest Republican president of the 20th century. Sorry, Mr. Reagan.
I am a huge fan of DDE’s policies on managing the military reduciton post WWII, demanding more help from other nations in Europe post WWII, maintaining the budget, etc.
But he stuck his head in the sand for social issues at a time and that’s a severe pock on his resume. Also, he got timid in examining the atomic weapon proliferation. These issues caused this nation a lot of grief down the line.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
The Clicgear fits. IMO it’s the best.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
Also, how can there be a golf discussion on this site without Spencer in attendance? The mind boggles.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:30 AM

June 8th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
Funnier is that neither of the semis he picked can actually happen because of how the tournament is structured.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
I’m not really sure why we are talking like we can draw lessons about Greek austerity because Greece really has no choice – if they do not engage in austerity, they get no loans at all, and things get even worse. Krugman crowing about Greece is akin to him pointing to someone who just got his foot amputated because of gangrene and going “See, the guy’s got no foot, you don’t want that happening to you!”
Which means you prevent the gangrene from setting in initially, Kruggies.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
He sued the PGA Tour, not sure about the USGA portion.
Correct on that. Wrong acroynym on my part. I erred in that the USGA recognized the ruling, it was a big hub-bub leading up to the last US Open (a USGA event) at Olympic. The USGA was pretty intertwined as a result.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
The Clicgear fits. IMO it’s the best.
!!! What model?
June 8th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
We were playing in a charity tournament last spring and had an open hole between us and the group behind us. A marshal drives up and tells us we need to pick up the pace. We told him to fuck off, and he did — albeit in a huff.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
I don’t see the need to needle JMAC on England. He never really claims to me Mr. Soccer. Who wants people to pick all #1 seeds in an NCAA bracket…?
Whomever has the best WAGS = who I am rooting for….
June 8th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
Walking 18 for 4 days straight (6-7 miles ea.) coupled with the stress of performing is a bitch, and certainly leads to some folks choking down the stretch.
I agree wholeheartedly. Fortunately, Casey isn’t talented enough to test this theory as the only time he’ll ever be at the top of the Sunday leaderboard is in Saturday night’s dreams.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
They fold up to nothing…
June 8th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
Team Walking the Course > Team Riding the Course
Also, sousedbergin > all others
June 8th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
In that case, I’m picking Ireland vs. Croatia in the final, with Greece winning it all.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
Casey isn’t talented enough to test this theory
Yeah, he’s only held the lead (briefly)at a US Open once, won a Nike Tour event, been on an NCAA Championship team, won college events, and earned his pro card on his own…. all why dealing with a leg defect that causes his leg to swell and shrink amongst other effects… all while suffering from limited practice time due to the aforementioned defect.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
Eisenhower also was a proponent of one of the largest stimulus spending measures ever done by the USG – the Interstate Highway System which in the aftermath helped GDP grow by a good deal.
Oh and Friedman, Laffer and trickle-down are the biggest economic fraudulant ideas besides Austrian economics of the past 100 years.
Here easy way to solve the issues:
Raise taxes and reduce deductions
Allow Social Security income cap to be unlimited, no more $104,500 cap
Raise SS retirement age progressively by 1 year starting with people born after 1950.
Reduce DoD budget by $150-$200 billion immediately
June 8th, 2012 at 10:55 AM
No one forced banks to knowingly bundle toxic mortgages together, fraudulently pass them off as stable, and sell them at tremendous profit knowing what would happen when it all collapsed.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
Yeah, he’s only held the lead (briefly)at a US Open once, won a Nike Tour event, been on an NCAA Championship team, won college events, and earned his pro card on his own
There are a lot of guys that have done all this….that are now selling insurance or giving lessons somewhere. Lot of guys are talented enough to make or get near the tour but very few are talented enough to maintain their level of play for 20+ years to remain on it. Not the Tiger Woods’ but guys like Billy Andrade, Jeff Sluman, etc.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
Would be down with all of this.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
Raise taxes and reduce deductions
Allow Social Security income cap to be unlimited, no more $104,500 cap
Raise SS retirement age progressively by 1 year starting with people born after 1950.
Reduce DoD budget by $150-$200 billion immediately
I’d vote for this.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
Would be down with all of this.
Seriously? I can’t imagine anybody 40 who expects to retire at 65 and receive FULL SS benefits.
/been working since 15

June 8th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
As would I, although it is worth pointing out that there are major defense budget cuts in that whole package that gets triggered if a new deal isn’t reached by New Year’s. And they’re fucking freaking out about it. They’ve gotten everything they want, every time they wanted it, and now they get what by their standards is a modest cut and it’s armageddon.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
They’ve gotten everything they want, every time they wanted it, and now they get what by their standards is a modest cut and it’s armageddon.
This is what bothers me about politicians (on BOTH sides): they spend all their fucking time selling their constituents on the idea that they can have everything they want without having to sacrifice or make compromises for it.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:13 AM
I turn 38 next week and anything I ever get from Social Security will be a bonus to me. I am planning for retirement as though there is no such thing as Social Security.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
I think Paul Krugman has about 15 different user names on this site.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Everybody wants to cut spending, smaller government, etc. – just as long as their services aren’t impacted. In my home state they were talking about closing down a fighter wing at the airport and everyone freaks out. This past week there was the CEO of a major defense contractor in the state – a real liberal commie if there ever was one – in the paper complaining about the damage defense spending cutbacks are doing to his company.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:18 AM
If Martin wasn’t disabled he would have been a solid pro. He was very capable. He was a top 200 player in the world while barely being able to practice.
Your assertion he wasn’t talented enough to win a US Open was false. In recent years, there have been a # of players ranked in the 100-200 range that have been on final day leaderboards at majors. Happens almost weekly on the pga tour.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:21 AM
Reduce DoD budget by $150-$200 billion immediately
There is a ton of DOD creep getting pushed into Homeland Security, making true defense stpending harder to recognize. It’s frustrating the true budget is so masked.
