LeBron Shut Everybody Up – for 48 Hours, Anyway – With 45 Points and 15 Rebounds, and Here’s Video of All of It
LeBron can’t win. His unbelievable 45-point, 15-rebound effort against Boston in an elimination game on the road?
Yeah, but he still has to win game seven, or it doesn’t matter!
Only a fool would think the Celtics are winning Game 7 in Miami Saturday night.
So he beat the old Celtics in 7 games, so what! He has to win a ring!
I’d give the Thunder the edge in the Finals, but let’s say Miami wins in six or seven.
So what. LeBron said he’d win not one, not two, not three …
A meaningless, never-ending cycle of hate for LeBron, who I’d say – this isn’t knee-jerk or hyperbole, either – is already one of the 25 best players in NBA history. In the NBA right now, how many players can dominate a must-win game like LeBron, and carry that weak supporting cast (Wade was 6-of-17, Bosh was moderately effective in 28 minutes) to victory?
[The real question here: Which of these performances was more incredible -
Down 2-1 in Game 4 in Indiana - 14-of-27, 40 points, 18 rebounds, 9 assists in 43 minutes
Down 3-2 in Game 6 in Boston - 19-of-26, 45 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists in 44 minutes]
For a day, we can all forget about blowing up the Miami Heat.
I’ll hang up now and wait for everyone to slaughter Paul Pierce, Doc Rivers and the choking Celtics.

There was just a post about this on ESPN….He has had some INSANE playoff games. That 09 Orlando series was ridiculous.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
KJ and Hondo should have played better defense.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
Writing it will not make it happen, no matter how much you want it to.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:03 AM
But it’s so much more fun to play The Mentalist and psychoanalyze him. “He looked so locked in last night…like a serial killer!” The pressure of Game 7 will be too much!”
June 8th, 2012 at 10:04 AM
This is the sort of reactionary attitude that had people crowning the Spurs champions a week ago.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
Top 25? If Kobe is top 10, LeBron is easily top 20, maybe top 15.
But yes, ultimately if the Heat dont win the title, last night’s game will be forgotten just like his G4 against Indiana.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
said this on my twitter feed, @FLKeysBeachBum btw lol, but Doc Rivers is a choke artist of a coach….where is the outrage…..choked coaching the Magic up 3-1 to Detroit, yet McGrady gets the blame….2009 vs Orlando they were up 3-2, choked at home in Game 7…and now this year 2012 up 3-2…
June 8th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
…and if the Heat loses Game 7 while Lebron goes for 34 points and 9 rebounds, he sucks again. Sports media has turned into one big Skip Bayless.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:06 AM
Just a fucking awesome performance, and it happened when all the pressure in the world was on him.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
Classic let down game for the Celtics. Game 7 is anyone’s guess though a healthier Bosh and the home court should be enough for Miami.
My hatred for Miami really makes me want them to lose but the NBA fan in me really wants a Thunder-Heat Finals.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Isn’t the real answer obvious?
June 8th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
If Miami wins tomorrow it’ll be the 3rd time in 4 years Boston blew a series after leading 3-2. (’09 Orlando, ’10 Lakers)
June 8th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Pretty clear cut answer is last night’s performance.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
While I would agree, it will be interesting to see where that ranking will end up if LeBron never gets his ring.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
I think an argument could be made that he coached his teams up just to be in those situations.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
Couldn’t you argue that Doc is the reason the Celtics are still in this series despite being a clearly inferior team?
June 8th, 2012 at 10:15 AM
and carry that weak supporting cast (Wade was 6-of-17, Bosh was moderately effective in 28 minutes) to victory?
somehow, this is always part of the lebron narrative. for someone who “is magic like and always makes his team better”, i find this funny.
but, there is no doubt he played his ass off last night.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
One of the better performances I can remember seeing in a long time, and I was ready to go to bed early last night with the Heat down 10 at the half. Dude was absolutely focused, would not be stopped, and was attacking all game. I’ve been waiting for that all series. It’s like somehow he realized Boston cannot guard him inside 17 feet, which they can’t. He stopped shooting bad jumpers and started posting up. Insanely efficient game by Lebron.
Another unimpressive performance by Wade, but he wasn’t needed last night. I can’t help but think he’s dealing with some type of injury with all the layups he is missing and his hesitation in attacking the basket, but oh well.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:20 AM
damn forgot about 2010 vs the Lakers, good call Chicago…Doc Rivers = choker
June 8th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
I could see wanting them to lose in the ECF if they were going against a likeable basketball team but if the choice is between them or Boston I will root for the Thunder-Heat finals. Those are two teams we could watch dance in the finals for a couple of years. Could be a great rivalry.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
i’ll believe LeBron winning a game 7 when I see it, assuming the team that let the Celtics take a 3-2 lead after being up 2-0 with one of those losses being at home is pretty foolish too
June 8th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
don’t just blame the media. The media isn’t even the number 1 culprit.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
You just find the name that is highest on that list that also doesnt have a ring and put Lebron ahead of him.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
I didnt read the post but i assume its another dumb Bayless-esque narrative by the eic?
June 8th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Are we seriously going to have this conversation? Really? About how Wade and Bosch are a weak supporting cast? Didn’t someone JUST SAY they weren’t going to have a knee-jerk reaction?
Also, LeBron doesn’t go for 45 and 15 without some help from that “weak supporting cast”, you know, the cast that has players that draw a LOT of attention from the opposing defense and set a lot of screens.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
Called a Thunder-Heat Finals inevitable months back. So, it’s in my own interest to hope for it.
As for last night, LeBron can have those nights. That’s not news. And he can do it again tomorrow night. But at times, it does feel like LeBron’s great performances are not indicative of his teams’ eventual successes.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
As for last night, LeBron can have those nights.
he can also totally quit, which is the main reason i cant stand him.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
Good lord, the comedy around here just never ends.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Well, he’s only played in 2 in his career. Last time was 2008 against the Celtics and he went for 45-5-6 on 14-29 shooting (14-19FT).
June 8th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
It’s not an never-ending argument, it’s just a statement of fact:
He’s one of the greatest ever at playing, but not closing.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
I am sure he is not the only superstar to quit on his team.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
He’s also a shitty father.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
He closed out the Celtics in the 1st quarter last night.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
Though probably true (and Game 5 in ’10 and last year’s finals were odd) in the last game against the Celtics as a Cav he did have 27-19-10.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Yeah, but what has he done lately? Oh, right…
June 8th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
you run off the instances of him “quitting” and I’ll run off the instances of similar games to last night, and lets see who runs out of games first.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
The Detroit game he scored 48 wasn’t a closeout either, but it may as well have been because he took that old team and demolished them once and for all. Cavs won the next game easy, like Miami will Saturday. Its been a good run, Boston.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
He closed the shit out of the Bulls and Celtics last year. And, in 2006 against the Wizards he had 45 in an OT win including a game winning bucket. And, in 2007 against the Pistons when he scored 48 in an OT win including 29 of the Cavs’ last 30 and 25 in a row.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
he can also totally quit, which is the main reason i cant stand him.
He needs to be loved, he needs to be desired.
When LeBron wants, he’s unstoppable. That backs up, JMac’s claim for LeBron’s Top 25 of All Time status.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
The Heat absolutely needed that game out of Lebron last night, and he gave it to them. Now it will be all for naught if he and the team especially doesn’t do it again in Miami. He needs another monster game, but the supporting cast has to play a lot better. No silly turnovers, hustle on defense, and don’t lag on defense in transition because you are complaining to the refs (I’m looking at you Wade).
June 8th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
you run off the instances of him “quitting” and I’ll run off the instances of similar games to last night, and lets see who runs out of games first.
actually, we may tie.
the point is, he has quit in him. if you cant acknowledge that, and its a fact, thats a you problem.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Don’t even need to click this to know where you are going. I hate you.
/and you’re wrong
June 8th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
“weak supporting cast”
Surely you jest? Did you leave out the word “performance” at the end? Because you can’t suddenly say that Lebron has a weak supporting cast when the whole world hate the Heat exactly because Lebron went to Miami to team up with one other top 5 player and another top 15ish player.
Did you roll your windows down after you posted this?
June 8th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
If I ask you to run off instances of something you assert and you can’t, its an “I’m your problem”.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
About 3 weeks ago, I was e-mailing with some friends and mentioned that Lebron was “far and away” the best player in the NBA. One friend said he thought Durant was a close 2nd. I countered that Durant was a more complete offensive player, but that Lebron was the better defender, rebounder and playmaker.
It will be fun to watch them square off in the finals, assuming they might guard each other (though I’m not sure Durant will guard Lebron).
June 8th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Bosh has been hurt and nobody who’s watched this playoffs still thinks Wade is a top 5 player. LeBron went into Cleveland mode last night because he had to.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
How its any different than Lebron quitting on a shitty cavs roster I have no idea.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
If I ask you to run off instances of something you assert and you can’t, its an “I’m your problem”.
dude, we have been over this a million times on this site. you and i both know when he quit. i am not going to cite them for you. be realistic in your requests (i realize that is probably not possible).
June 8th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
Actually you asked to see who had more. LB has quit, so his point is valid. Doesn’t matter if it’s one less than “big” games. He’s quit on multitple occasions.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
I dont think anybody disputes this, Durant has won 3 straight scoring titles.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:55 AM
I love this sentiment. Like its that fucking easy to score 45 in the conference championships. Just want to do it and poof, it happens. He could score 50 every single game if he just wanted to.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:58 AM
“Durant has won 3 straight scoring titles”
Yes, but the last 2 have been while Lebron is sharing the load in Miami with 2 other very good scorers. I think Lebron could have challenged him if he were still on a team like the one he was on in Cleveland.
To Durant’s credit, he also has two other chunkers in Westbrook and Harden to deal with. Durant seems to have a high shooting percentage. Just doesn’t seem like he goes 7-26 very often. I’ve obviously never checked his stats.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
Because I don’t think Kobe quit. He tried carrying the load in the first half, didn’t work, so he tried getting others involved. That’s not quitting. Please try and remember Smush Parker and Kwame Brown were on the floor. It matters.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
He’s averaging 30/10/5 this postseason. What would be a “great” game for every other player in the NBA has been, by definition, average for James in this year’s playoffs.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
I like to think that has dice at home and rolls them before he leaves for the gym. Whatever 2 numbers comes up, that’s what he chooses to score that night.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
I’ll be happy when people stop saying “closing” and “closer”, cause it’s fckin stupid.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
then you run them off for him.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Has Lebron really changed as a player since he left Cleveland? What has he done in MIA he hasn’t done in CLE?
MVP trophy, great regular season, taken team to Finals, great playoff performances, a few chokes in the playoffs.
For Lebron’s results, nothing has changed but the city. It has and always will be a topic of RINGS.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
What would be a “great” game for every other player in the NBA has been, by definition, average for James in this year’s playoffs.
maybe when you set the championship bar at 8, your expected performance bar probably goes just a tad.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
You’re going to have to be more specific on which of the 30 point elimination losses you’re talking about.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
He said something stupid. People need to get the fuck over this.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
then you run them off for him.
since it is so godamn important to you, you fucking do it. we all know the occasions and so do you. otherwise, shut your ass.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
Congrats, your application to the Onion has been accepted.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
He quit. I don’t know why Lakers fans have trouble admitting this. If anything you should be ecstatic that he quit to prove a point. It worked.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:10 AM
once I run your bitch unknowledgeable ass off yet another thread, I will have indeed shut my ass. But in the meantime, instead of attempting to hide your weakness by invoking “everyone knows”, when I asked YOU to give examples of YOUR assertion, provide the examples.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Shooting %’s are crazy (eFG%: 2011-51%, 2012-55%). And, in the past 2 seasons, he has had only 8 games in which he shot under 30% and only 3 of those incldue 20+ FGA.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
It’s your opinion, one that you probably don’t even believe anyway.
June 8th, 2012 at 11:16 AM
Yea, it was a pep rally for the heat fans. What’s he supposed to say, “we have a umm take it one game at a time, give 110%,”?
June 8th, 2012 at 11:42 AM
I was at that game and formed that opinion watching that 2nd quarter. Just disinterest all over Kobes face the entire 2nd half.
