The Detroit Lions Account For 24% of the NFL Arrests This Year
The Detroit Lions draft class of 2011 has been productive so far, accounting for 24% of the league’s results in one key category. That would be arrests so far in 2012, per the Detroit Free Press. There have been a total of 24 arrests so far in 2012 of NFL players, and Lions players Mikel Leshoure and Nick Fairley have two each, while 7th round pick Johnny Culbreath was also arrested this offseason. (It’s a smaller story, but I know you’ve been following it).
The problem appears to be that other teams just aren’t getting arrested enough. 24 arrests out of a population of almost 2,000 males in nearly half a year seems reasonable. A review of the UT-San Diego database shows that there were 38 arrests during the same period (Jan. 1 to Jun. 7) four years ago. Of course, we would need 136 more arrests before the Lions next one for them to have a league average number of arrests.
