First off, Bert Cooper’s sister has a share of the company. All the senior partners and Pete (and Joan) could increase their proportional share to absorb Lane’s share. They aren’t into giving away the company.

I think the lesson there was Hilton comes to you, not vice versa. Plus, the SCDP viability was not a given after American Tobacco bailed. Hilton would have wanted a bigger company. I think it was said they used SCDP a bit too to shake up their current company.

That wasn’t a major client at all. How long would the DoD need advertising? A few months or years? That wasn’t a long term potential client at all.

A simple “Incorrect” would have sufficed. But nonetheless you make a good point. I forgot about the North American Aviation fiasco. But you could easily make the argument that among defense contractors, even at that time, North American was not one of the big boys. They were not a Boeing or a McDonell Douglas.

If/when they land another gorilla, they’d have to have cash for infrastructure and hiring upgrades, so they’d want to be liquid and not overleveraged.

Good point. I think they could take this either way, but what you mention does seem more likely. Roger did say, after all, that he likes this new aggressiveness and ruthlessness that Don is showing.

that’s a happy ending, which isn’t realistic and i doubt will happen. Don won’t form his own agency, that’s been done. He could be poached, the way Peggy was, but not likely. i don’t see him dwelling as a partner and in charge of only creative for his career.

Also a good point. He and Roger were estranged for about half a season. They reconciled around the same time that Betty started cheating on Don with Henry Francis. But Roger is a fun loving guy and likes that part of Don. Cooper is not so easy going.
