Can Ibaka, Perkins and Collison Show up in San Antonio?
If Scott Brooks hadn’t tried to match the Spurs going small in game one, would Oklahoma City be up 3-1? Perhaps, but we’ll never know. But what everyone saw in game four is what might have happened in game one – Stephen Jackson would have been forced to defend Serge Ibaka (11-for-11, 26 points in game four), and Kevin Durant could have his way with everyone else. (Not that Durant couldn’t have his way with Jackson.)
Then again, Ibaka was just 1-for-3 shooting in game one and 3-for-11 in game two.
I’d say that Ibaka, Kendrick Perkins and Nick Collison are the three most pivotal players tonight. The Spurs are going to let that trio have all the shots they want. Here’s what they did in games one and two on the road:
Ibaka: 4-for-14
Perkins: 2-for-9
Collison: 2-for-5
If that happens again in games five and seven, the Thunder can’t win the series, no matter what Durant, Westbrook and Harden do.
I’ll reluctantly take the Thunder tonight, 102-100, but only because I’m rooting for them.

Breaking: “Role players play better at home than the road. Pictures at 11.”
Seriously, if Ibaka, Perkins and Collison go 22-25 in a game, the Spurs will not win. I think Bonner, Green and Splitter make a few more shots while the OKC bigs struggle on the road again.
Spurs 108, OKC 101

You don’t think Blair gets more burn tonight? I hope not, dude is a Thunder-killer.
June 4th, 2012 at 7:31 PM
He gets some, but too much and he gets exposed on defense. I think he will get used a s a spark a few times, but nothing more than 12 mins.

RIP Pedro Borbon. No word yet if Manny Mota will make the funeral.
June 4th, 2012 at 8:28 PM
Now aint that one of the dumber statements of the day.
June 4th, 2012 at 8:29 PM
At this point Bonner should not be anywhere but the bench.
He contributes and has contributed absolutely nothing.

Wow, they had a 5PM local start time in LA for the hockey game. If traffic wasnt already a bitch…

Ive been to Kings games at Staples. Good hockey crowd actually. It’s not the worst getting in/out, all things considered. If it’s a Stanley Cup Final and you’re trying to roll in at game time, well that’s on you. Get there very early and be primed for the puck drop.

Let’s go Thunder!
Pop already nervous, starting Manu over Green

at this rate, we’re going to see Nazr Muhammad in the 1st quarter.

Please tell me you’re being facetious.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:10 PM
No kidding. Thunder really need to stop fouling. The only bad call I saw was that idiotic call when Parker jumper directly into Ibaka, and they already have 5 fouls. Spurs just relentless in attacking the rim so far though.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:10 PM
Jason! You here for the duration? If so, go Spurs, brotha.

The teams remaining are some of the best at having multiple finishers in the key. This causes some of the refereeing controversies weve seen.

Vez, my wife got me a really interesting whiskey for Valentine’s Day last year. It’s called Armorik and it’s a single malt French whiskey from Brittany (Bretagne). It’s clean, grassy but very flavorful.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:21 PM
Jmac, pop didnt panic by starting Manu. Green has just sucked this series
June 4th, 2012 at 9:23 PM
I’m aware, AP. But he mixed up the starting lineup, and now two fouls on Duncan and he’s got groups of dudes together who have never played together. all these turnovers … i dont see why you start Manu. why fix a good thing?
June 4th, 2012 at 9:24 PM
Gary Neal and George Hill.
Who are two guys traded for each other who can’t play point guard for shit in this league? Absolutely idiotic when running an offense. No ball handling IQ
June 4th, 2012 at 9:27 PM
When Bonner, Splitter, and Green have given you nothing lately, you have to make a change. The only guys who should be playing are TD, tony, manu, Boris, Captain Jack, Leonard, and Blair. hell, Patty Mills is a better ball handler than Gary Neal but he wont see a minute.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:27 PM
I made sure not to bet on this game and I have pretty neutral feelings towards both of these teams (think the series is going 7 either way, and I wouldn’t mind either of these teams in the Finals). I’m trying to keep track of the foul calls and perceived missed calls from my POV for this game. Should be interesting, but the game is pretty well refereed thus far minus that first bad call against Ibaka.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:28 PM
Absolutely idiotic when running an offense
You could make a pretty good living in the league as a steady PG who can value the basketball & make the smart pass at the right time. You don’t have to be Magic Johnson. Just keep your head up & stay under control.
It ain’t that hard.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:28 PM
When Nick Collison is getting easy baskets….yikes..
June 4th, 2012 at 9:29 PM
I didn’t like the 2nd call either…I guess not so much the call, but the bush league move by Ginobili.
/or smart, depending on who you’re rooting for
June 4th, 2012 at 9:31 PM
Perhaps im just spoiled watching Rondo all season but man, the PG play on many teams is not that great.
Nice to see the refs bogging down the game tonight. Its not fun to watch
June 4th, 2012 at 9:34 PM
You could make a pretty good living in the league as a steady PG who can value the basketball & make the smart pass at the right time
Andre Miller
June 4th, 2012 at 9:34 PM
Never traded for one another.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:36 PM
George Hill was traded to the Pacers for Kawhi Leonord, not George Hill.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:36 PM
*not Gary Neal
June 4th, 2012 at 9:36 PM
*Team that benefits in parentheses

1. Terrible call (Spurs); Parker draws on Ibaka at rim. 2 FTA
2. Good call (Spurs); Ginobli draws on Ibaka near half court. 0 FTA
3. Good call (Spurs); Parker draws on Collison at rim. 2 FTA
4. Good call (Spurs); Ginobli draws on Sefolosha at rim. 2 FTA
5. Good call (Thunder); Perkins draws on Duncan at rim. 2 FTA
6. Good call (Thunder); Westbrook draws on Diaw at rim. 2 FTA
7. Good call (Thunder); Durant draws on Diaw at 7 feet. 2 FTA
8. Bad call, but tough to get right (Thunder); Collison draws charge on Duncan, barely inside half-circle. 0 FTA
9. Good call (Spurs); Blair draws charge on Westbrook at 6 feet. 0 FTA
12. Good call (Thunder); Durant draws on Jackson at rim. 2 FTA
13. Good call (Thunder); Fisher draws on Blair on DReb. OTL, 2 FTA
14. Bad call (Thunder); Fisher draws moving screen on Blair.
15. Bad call (Thunder); Harden draws on Green. 2 FTA
3 bad call, 1 terrible call, 11 good calls. IMO.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:41 PM
Rondo, thanks for the correction. My overall point still rings true about both Neal and Hill
June 4th, 2012 at 9:45 PM
There’s worse guys playing this late in the season.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:46 PM
Not starting PG’s.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:47 PM
Daequan Cook, feeling it!!
June 4th, 2012 at 9:48 PM
I’d say there’s about 9 franchise-ish PGs, about 9 serviceable/flawed guys, and 9-10 sketchy/overrated PGs. The final group might have short-term success but it wouldn’t translate across teams or for more than a season.
Less guys in the field general mold but more than can score.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:53 PM
Chalmers is worse than Miller.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:55 PM
Atlantic: Rondo, D Will
central: Rose, Irving
southeast: none (no, john wall is not really a franchise point guard)
Pacific: Paul, Nash
Northwest: rubio, westbrook
Southwest: parker
Thats all i consider to me franchise type point guards.
June 4th, 2012 at 9:57 PM
Is it just me or are the Thunder getting a lot of favorable calls thus far?
June 4th, 2012 at 9:58 PM
Guys like Lawson, Teague, and others are in the next level
June 4th, 2012 at 9:58 PM
Gary Neal, go the hell away
June 4th, 2012 at 10:00 PM
if this holds, will Pop catch heat for starting Manu? it really threw off the team’s equilibrium. They just don’t look the same at all.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:00 PM
Harden and one. what a half by the Thunder
June 4th, 2012 at 10:01 PM

June 4th, 2012 at 10:01 PM

/homer.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:02 PM
Sorry Jmac but this is just dumb.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:02 PM
Dang it. Spurs seem like they are rushing. At home, they should be the calmer, more poised team.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:02 PM
Seriously, why are you so hung up on the Manu starting storyline? Do you see how bad Most of the Spurs are shooting and defending? It has nothing to do with Pop’s decision. He has to ride Manu right now because he’s the only Spur attacking the rim
June 4th, 2012 at 10:02 PM
Brandon Jennings could be pretty good one day. He is only 3 years removed from high school.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:02 PM

June 4th, 2012 at 10:06 PM
Jose,
Curry isnt a PG in my mind. Also, he can’t stay healthy. Regarding Jennings, a good talent but i dont see him ever turning into a solid PG. he is more selfish and less accurate than Westbrook. Too much hero ball. The main reason Ilyasova had great rebounding numbers this year.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:06 PM
And GMs are surprised when their teams struggle.
You ask me, I blame AAU. Those classic PG skills get overlooked in the search for the “shooting PGs”. Aaaaargh!

June 4th, 2012 at 10:10 PM
AP that was my exact same list. I had Wall w/ Evans in that next area (could go higher but some issues). Then after them, that hodge podge of 5-8 serviceable guys.
Curry is listed as a SG most places. And he wouldnt even be in that top tier.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:12 PM
So, for Q2 that’s 1 terrible call, 1 missed goaltend, 4 bad calls, and 5 good calls. IMO. Not as well done as Q1.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:13 PM
Bein in Wisconsin, this is right on. Loves to jack up anything and never gets teammates involved on a consistent basis.
After his rookie season, I really thought he might be a possible elite PG, but after 3 NBA seasons now, hes a disappointment.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:14 PM
It seams like the thunder haven’t missed in three games. Good lord.
Saw some bourbon talk- angels envy is beyond awesome.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:14 PM
Vez, i watched her match this morning. She struggled in the first two sets. Maria’s weakness is an opponent with a stellar return game. She went through the 3rd set faster because her opponent wore down but i can see her having issues later this week. Someone like Clijsters or Serena would take her down. Oh well
June 4th, 2012 at 10:15 PM
Maria would have a career grand slam.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:17 PM
Scripty, tyreke has been exposed as not being able to be a PG in this league. He’s definitely a 2-guard. Sacramento could get a good deal for him if they decided to move him. I dont see that happening any time soon because Jimmer (sets off CRM alert) is too small to play SG in the league and he doesnt have the handle to play PG.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:20 PM
AP – did you hear Barkley’s comments re: Starting Manu?
June 4th, 2012 at 10:21 PM
So for the ECF you have JVG and Breen which is awesome but then you have to deal with Magic, Wilbon and the fucking idiotic Brussard aka the white black guy…. for the WCF you get Reggie Miller who’s the definition of the worst but on the bright side there’s Chuck, Kenny and Ernie which is great.
So basically these games have been like every sandwich you’ve ever had.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:21 PM
Jmac, i wasnt home or near a tv for the pregame show. Also been watching the game on mute as usual
June 4th, 2012 at 10:23 PM
Barkley saying it does not make it correct. I disagree with him. Spurs looked like shit on offense long before Pop decided to sit Green for Manu. There is no causation here.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:24 PM

As no one gives a flying fuck about my foul count, and I’m bored with it, I will be discontinuing that effort. Thank you for your input.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Did I just read that John Wall is not a franchise PG? Is a right now or a forever statement because I am pretty sure only Cowherd believes John Wall doesn’t have near future franchise PG potential.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:26 PM
J Mac, are you saying more Green and less Manu would have benefitted the Spurs? Are watching the game or Gossip Girll reruns?
/ be honest, we are all friends here
June 4th, 2012 at 10:27 PM
If you’re not going to hit open shots, you sure as hell better step up on defense. Danny Green should watch what Pietrus has done the past two games for Boston. He’s missed open threes but has busted his ass on defense. Just look at those two crucial offensive rebounds last night in overtime
June 4th, 2012 at 10:27 PM
I enjoyed it Chicago. It felt like the refs whistles sensitivity ebbed and flowed during the half.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:29 PM
Got em, john Wall has a lot of room to grow so he could eventually be a franchise PG but right now, he’s not a player id build my team around. He’s still a bit careless with the ball. Needs to have a drastic change in assist to turnover ratio
June 4th, 2012 at 10:30 PM
So if the Spurs were up 15 I’m pretty sure starting Manu would be hailed as a genius move that shook up the team. When the same event can be used to justify diametrically opposite outcomes you know you’ve reached a point of irrational hunt for agency.
Pretty sure whether Manu starts or not is largely immaterial he plays starter minutes anyway.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:31 PM
Thanks Brawny. It’s not as fun for me because this game is actually well reffed thus far for the most part. Thought it was interesting that I didn’t feel there were any non-calls that should have been fouls.
Maybe I’ll do it for the entirety of Heat-Celts tomorrow night.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:32 PM
You may have just described the exact way JMac’s brain works.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:34 PM
As no one gives a flying fuck about my foul count, and I’m bored with it, I will be discontinuing that effort.
I enjoyed it, and appreciate you putting in the effort.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:35 PM
A little too many whistles IMO. But thunder got 5 in 1st 2 min or so, then 3 in the next 20. Inconsistency drives me nuts. Establish a foul and stick to it.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:35 PM
To me, Durant has sooo much George Gervin in his game. Like going back in time.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:39 PM
So is Pop no longer dumb, JMac?
June 4th, 2012 at 10:39 PM
This is some entertaining shit!
June 4th, 2012 at 10:39 PM
Since when is Charles freakin Barkley the expert on anything?
June 4th, 2012 at 10:39 PM
How’d the Spurs come back with this panicky starting lineup? Or does that just apply to the 1st quarter?
June 4th, 2012 at 10:40 PM
Back-to-back. Maybe, just maybe, the Spurs are finding some of that poise they didn’t have in the first half.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:40 PM
He was dumb the 1st quarter. He is smart to stick with it the second half. But, if the Spurs miss some shots, he’ll be dumb again.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:41 PM
When Ginobli misses a couple shots in a row, does that make Pop’s decision a bad one again?
/there was never any causation between Ginobli starting and the Spurs not playing that well tonight
June 4th, 2012 at 10:41 PM

June 4th, 2012 at 10:45 PM
The problem with results as a basis of forming an opinion is that you burn too many calories flip flopping in addition to the fact that you’d be useless in any decision making process where the outcome of alternatives is not an available input.
So as of 67-51 starting Ginobili was good.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:50 PM
I don’t know how Manu is scoring all these points with his equilibrium thrown off by starting

By the way, the reason why those coach timeout audio is always shit like “Guys we have to score more!” is because TNT cannot air any audio of actual strategy which now begs the question as to why they bother with it in the first place since they can’t provide anything informative.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:56 PM

June 4th, 2012 at 10:56 PM
I find nothing more informative than the coach interviews after the 1st and 3rd quarters. I always learn that they need to play better defense, and make their shots.
June 4th, 2012 at 10:57 PM

Why does Steve Kerr always give fellatio to the referees no matter how bad the call is? So annoying.
Also, Reggie Miller needs to go away quickly. He’s so terrible.

June 4th, 2012 at 11:17 PM
He keeps thinking OKC-Miami would be a great series. He hasnt seen Miami play this series. Miami is way too inconsistent. They are only good in spurts. OKC is playing well from start to finish the majority of games. Collison, Ibaka, and Perkins would absolutely destroy Miami inside, even with Bosh back..

It’s things like this that upset me. How do people not see that his team was already in trouble? The Thunder have been exploiting the Spurs/Green since game 3. Pop isn’t a fucking idiot. He’s one of the smartest coaches in the NBA. He doesn’t just decide on a whim to play Blair more, Green less, and start Ginobli. The only reason SA is close to being in this game is because of Manu. Please don’t give your input if you haven’t paid enough attention to the series to understand this.
The Thunder have straight up outplayed the Spurs for far longer than this game and tonight has absolutely nothing to do with Pop starting Manu.
Of course TBL retweeted this.

chicago…you have to blame the guy with 30 points…Green could have had at least 8.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:23 PM
Ibaka, then Harden making plays. Things look bleak for the home team. Spurs need someone other than Ginobili to make a play to have a chance at the end.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:24 PM
Danny Green starting is going to have no impact of the Thunder playing balls out these past three games (and really, all series).
TBL is a clueless boob who thinks he knows everything. See his Twitter spat with Jorge Arangure for blantant proof if he has already deleted that embarrassment.

June 4th, 2012 at 11:25 PM
What do people see in Perkins that I don’t see?
June 4th, 2012 at 11:26 PM
Starting a day early but…Screw the Orioles! Go Sox

Amen, brotha. Amen.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:27 PM
I appreciate what Perkins did for Boston in the title run but man he is the biggest tool on the court. He’s a great guy off the court but on the court he goes mental
June 4th, 2012 at 11:27 PM
is westbrook not that bright? honest question.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:28 PM
Perk does a solid job on Duncan straight up. Westbrook & Harden are being stupid. GET THE BALL TO kevin
June 4th, 2012 at 11:29 PM
Got your wish, SROD… Duncan and Parker decided to show up and make some plays. Another big three from Jackson too. Amazingly, we still have a game on our hands.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:29 PM
Wait so you mean you can’t see he’s obviously the heart, soul and emotional leader of the team?
June 4th, 2012 at 11:29 PM
Westbrook is sloppy and careless and selfish. He shouldnt be a point guard. He isn’t accurate enough to play selfishly. KD can take all the shots in the world, IMO. He’ll make more of them
June 4th, 2012 at 11:29 PM
Frog flop
June 4th, 2012 at 11:31 PM
westbrook needs to be smart, he nearly threw an elbow at Parker
June 4th, 2012 at 11:31 PM
You must be behind on your DVR…I’ll wait until you catch up.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:31 PM
Ita the rare time i agree with Skip Bayless. He is so right about westbrook. Westbrook will kill his own team if he decides to take over and not get it to KD. Thunder go as far as KD takes them
June 4th, 2012 at 11:31 PM
OH MY MELTDOWN
June 4th, 2012 at 11:33 PM
If westbrook had the basketball IQ of Rondo or Deron Williams, hed be a nearly unstoppable force. Id say Chris Paul but having Chris Paul’s IQ includes flopping and punching people in the balls.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:33 PM
Helps the Thunder that Perkins just fouled out. Collison or Sefolosha are better for them right now.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:34 PM
Westbrook forcing the issue, but hit the jumper. OKC doing just enough to hold on…for now.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:35 PM
Wow harden…if he missed that, he would be rightly crucified. KD needs to go demand the ball
June 4th, 2012 at 11:35 PM
Onions
June 4th, 2012 at 11:35 PM
This is always exactly true until it’s not anymore and then is again.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:36 PM
What a shot by Harden. Pretty well defended by Leonard.
But if Danny Green had started!!!!
/retard
June 4th, 2012 at 11:36 PM
Miami would have fucked that up so bad and bricked a shot.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:36 PM
Agree.
I didn’t mind Westbrook’s missed layup…had a step and good chance of getting to the line.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:36 PM
/chuckles
//mind, blown
June 4th, 2012 at 11:36 PM
So Harden made that shot but that was a pretty bad possession. KD needs to touch the ball in that situation
June 4th, 2012 at 11:37 PM
Shit… If I were Harden, I would not be happy with how hard Durant just shoved me in the back in celebration. That looked like it hurt.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:37 PM
Chicago, it can be true even when he hits shots. More often than not, he takes and misses a big shot while KD never touches the ball.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:38 PM
Holy crap…
June 4th, 2012 at 11:38 PM
Sefolosha getting stripped? Will it be upheld?
June 4th, 2012 at 11:38 PM
Oh wow. I think they won’t change that. Same rule as NFL re: inconclusive?
June 4th, 2012 at 11:39 PM
Wow that really may be off Sefalosha.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:40 PM
So according to Reggie Pop called a timeout so the referees forget to review the play.
Unfortunately Pat Summit wasn’t reffing
/sets reminder for confession next sunday.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:41 PM
foul before the shot?
June 4th, 2012 at 11:42 PM
Green would have hit it.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:42 PM
Duncan should have shot that three. I can’t believe he didn’t pull the trigger there.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:43 PM
Too much time …according to JVG only do this under 8 seconds. I would agree
June 4th, 2012 at 11:46 PM
Great timeout there…diagramming a 5-point play…maybe 6 for the win.
June 4th, 2012 at 11:47 PM
Wow. The Spurs had moments, but not enough.
OKC’s home arena is gonna be nuts on Wednesday night.
June 5th, 2012 at 12:47 AM
Man, what the heck is up with Serge in the pre-jump photo? SJax is one crazy mofo, and he looks frightened by Ibaka.
