Brad Beal, the Humble Florida Star, Compares His Game to Ray Allen, Dwyane Wade
Brad Beal was my No. 2 pick a pre-lottery mock draft, nudging ahead of Kentucky’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. I don’t think I’ll be changing my assessment in the wake of last week’s draft lottery, even though New Orleans leapfrogged Charlotte (cough, rigged, cough) and has the top pick. The Hornets will obviously take Anthony Davis, and offensively-challenged Charlotte, one of the worst teams in NBA history, will no doubt select Beal.
The Bobcats were last in the league in scoring, field goal percentage, and 3-point shooting. Beal only averaged a modest 14.8 ppg as a freshman, but the McDonald’s All-American was playing with chuckers like Erving Walker, Kenny Boynton and reserve Mike Rosario. Beal should start immediately and could even lead the 25-win Bobcats in scoring. Especially if he plays like the Ray Allen/Dwyane Wade player he thinks he is:
I’m an all-around player. I love to get my teammates involved. Comparing myself to somebody else, the way I shoot, I shoot similarly to Ray Allen. And when I drive to the basket, I like to compare myself to Dwyane Wade because we have the same body type or whatever. I like to compare myself to those two guys.
The only way the Bobcats don’t draft Beal is if they trade down a few spots in hopes of acquiring another first round pick – perhaps they covet former UNC shooter Harrison Barnes? – but is there a team with two first round picks that loves Beal that much to trade up and grab him? Charlotte has plenty of holes, so maybe it would entertain taking picks 6 and 11 from Portland in exchange for No. 2? Well, maybe if Portland decided it really wanted Thomas Robinson to pair with LaMarcus Aldridge, maybe they’d do it …

I have a hard time thinking they’re taking Beal over MKG.

Warriors at 7 + Spurs pick
Could Thompson play the 3 full-time?

Also, you think the team that ended the season on a 23-game losing streak wins 25 next year?

I certainly think it is a possibility that they will select Beal, but “no doubt”??? There are plenty of doubts, especially when Michael Jordan is running the team. The odds of them taking Beal are, at best, 50/50. I think they will draft MKG, personally.

Jordan will take Barnes, because he’s an idiot.

Also, Walker and Boynton are both better shooters than Beal.
I am going to go on record as saying that Beal is going to be a colossal flop in the NBA…I mean, I don’t even think he will be a good player, much less a player that is worthy of being the #2 overall pick.

For some reason, the ‘adult learning annex’ is the part that made me laugh the most.

Man, the english language has taken a major hit in the past 50 years. Throw a few “likes” in the above quote, and you’d have yourself a doozy.

That grammar has become so poor is only part of the problem. Someone called me in my office the other day and they spoke so poorly that I didn’t understand a word of the first sentence out of his mouth. It was like a Louis C.K. joke except it was actually happening.

people don’t think it was rigged? that’s surprising.

No way they take beal. When healthy, Henderson is their best player. Take MKG and try dump maggettes contract during the season.

You think it was rigged? What % chance it’s rigged in your mind?

100%.

Been saying that on the air all week out here. He’s the one guy in the top 5 I have serious question marks about him ever being an NBA all-star. I think Dion Waiters has the chance to be better. Waiters is a better finisher, more physical, more explosive first step, and shot it just as well from three last year (actually better).
