SportsNation’s Michelle Beadle Sendoff Was Silly, Stupid and Kind of Sweet
Yesterday was Michelle Beadle’s final day on SportsNation. Colin Cowherd and the rest of the crew said farewell by giving her an Evil Kenevil outfit and launching her from a cannon. Along the way she was cheered on and hugged by some familiar ESPN faces. It was silly and very SportsNation, but it somehow evoked emotion from me.
I think I felt a little nostalgic. Now, I don’t watch SportsNation, but I’ve seen the show. I’ve blogged about the show. I’ve seen clips. I have a working knowledge of the program, but I was still left feeling like Michelle Beadle was leaving my life. Is there a rational explanation for that? She’s just going to another network to talk about celebrities. My life will be no different tomorrow based on what Michelle Beadle is doing. Yet here I am, writing about how whatever Michelle Beadle is doing tomorrow will affect my life.
We exist in a place on the Internet where we talk about sports and media and women in sports and media. When there’s an attractive woman with little or no ties to the sports world, we make one up. Does it really matter? When it comes right down to it, we’re all just trying to find ways to entertain ourselves and fuck around at work. It’s our job to keep you wasting company time at this website.
Michelle Beadle has been a part of this little corner of the world since she showed up on SportsNation three years ago. She’s eaten hot dogs, been eaten by mascots and played with puppies – all for our enjoyment. Or at least for the enjoyment of the people who don’t know that Law & Order is on at the same time.
Michelle Beadle hasn’t been an actual part of our lives for three years, but she kind of has. The same as Cowherd and all the other ESPN personalities we love and hate are. They are part of the shared experience So even though it’s the people at ESPN who will no longer be hanging out with Beadle everyday, it still kind of feels like she won’t be hanging out with us everyday.
It’s fitting that the final image from Michelle Beadle’s final show is Charissa Thompson’s legs. While not necessarily “new” to our little neighborhood, when she picks up hosting duties at SportsNation she’ll be a much bigger part of our world. On to the next one…

I want CRM to write my obituary. He wrote this about someone he generally gives no fucks about, I can only imagine what he’d write about one of his best fake internet bros….

I simply cant believe people watch sportsnation. And I say that as someone who inexplicably watches around the horn once or twice a week.

I agree that the Beadle send off show was silly and a missed opportunity. I count myself as a daily watcher and fan. She has a definable talent for being vivacious, quick witted, snarky, knowledgable enough for the room and she looks good in heels. The walk the plank bit was tired. The cannonball stunt was insipid but not out of the show’s tradition. I would have liked to have seen the Liars Board with some of Michelle’s riffs from the previous three years. They could have number crunched her weirdest hairstyles. I will “miss” her because she played well off Colin’s faux bombast.
Charissa is more attractive, perhaps, gets the whole ESPN vibe, but I don’t know whether SN can survive without Beadle from Bourne.

Nice of ESPN to basically say “Out goes one piece o’ ace, here comes another” with that shot of Charissa’s legs. Beadle deserves better. Always love when an attractive girl knows what she’s talking about, instead of just reading shit someone handed her. I respect that much, much more.
