NBA Western Conference, Game 3: Can the Thunder End the Spurs’ Twenty Game Winning Streak?
The nation is coming around to the fact that the Spurs might be pretty good, as most of the attention has gone to other teams while they just quietly and ruthlessly do their thing. No more, after a twenty game winning streak that has now extended to Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals. The Thunder return home and must win tonight to have any chance to make this a series.
A couple of the big questions for tonight:
–Will Kevin Durant get the ball and make an impact in the fourth quarter? It’s a good thing his last name is not James or he would be causing a meltdown. Durant has only attempted 4 shots in the last two fourth quarters, both games where the outcome was in doubt entering the frame. His only made shot was on a layup (he did make 8 free throws). While 10 points over two quarters is good for a mere mortal, it isn’t what you expect from the scoring leader with the game in the balance.
–Will Scotty Brooks adjust? I don’t care if he usually takes Ibaka out for large stretches of the fourth quarter. He is by far the best interior defender and the Spurs diverse offense brutalized the Thunder inside when they lack a shot blocking presence. Also, Derek Fisher? Really? Less minutes, not more, Scotty.
–The Post-Game Outfits. Russell Westbrook is hopefully ready to step up his game again. Isn’t that why we watch?

I refuse to pull for a team with a guy who has a stupid “look at me!” beard.

It’s well known to most basketball fans that the Spurs are pretty darn good. It’s the “playoff only” fans that are just figuring this out.

Human rain delay is dicking around too much on the mound. Lazy Josh Beckett is back today!

Durant’s 4th quarter performances are prime examples of why people who are shot counters (this guy put up 30 shots, he’s a chucker) don’t know what they’re talking about.

It’s so funny when Perkins grabs the ball and stomps off in no meaningful direction after he disagrees with a call.

Reggie Miller fucking sucks.

Great dunk by Durant
May 31st, 2012 at 9:21 PM
Great finish by Durant over Duncan.
May 31st, 2012 at 9:26 PM
Why arent people getting all over Durant more for being so passive in crunch time??
Dude needs to do what he just did and take it to the hole!

Bad mistake by Thabo..unintentional but flagrant nonetheless

People think Tim Duncan is largely expressionless, but he has 100 different versions of the expressionless face. It’s all nuance.

Spurs shouldnt be running the offense tonight through duncan. Refs are letting OKC maul duncan every play so you might as well work it a different way
May 31st, 2012 at 9:57 PM
Okc minus 4. Was out most of 1st half…how’s okc getting it done?
May 31st, 2012 at 9:58 PM
37 points? I was to understand that the most pure, beautiful, unadulterated offense in the history of basketball was unstoppable?!?!

So spurs just not executing? Or okc playing d?
May 31st, 2012 at 10:01 PM
Really, the whole:

is so tired at this point.

NBA refs are the worst.
Just get rid of travelling altogether if you are never gonna call it.
May 31st, 2012 at 10:05 PM
Rondoman needs to get away
May 31st, 2012 at 10:07 PM
The NBA rulebook has like 7 pages devoted to traveling. It’s crazy. Basically if you travel fast or in without exaggerated pace its gonna get let go.

Not unexpectedly, this doesn’t make a ton of sense. The Spurs have played one of their worst offensive halves in a while (in large part due to some nice adjustments made by OKC), and yet they could easily get their scoring average in this game by turning it around just a little bit in the second half.
People were basing their opinions on the Spurs on a 20 game winning streak and 10 straight playoff wins with a strong scoring margin. Let’s at least wait a whole game before blowing our sarcasm and told-you-so loads at the same time.

Spurs tried too much to get Duncan going on the block. Too bad Nick Collison got away with hammering him on 4 straight possessions. Offense has to run through Parker and Ginobili.
Hey coop, spurs started similarly in game 3 against the Clippers and then scored 24 straight points to take control of the game.
May 31st, 2012 at 10:09 PM
Ginobili needs to get more aggressive in the 2nd half.
3 shots aint gonna get it done, and like you said, Duncan is getting hammered and no calls.
May 31st, 2012 at 10:10 PM
OKC’s defense still hasn’t played great. They hit a bunch of threes on offense and benefitted from some sloppy SA passes.
They could be up more if Russell westbrook didnt have retard blinders on..
May 31st, 2012 at 10:12 PM
Other than fouling duncan what are okc adjustments?
May 31st, 2012 at 10:18 PM
And I’m basing my sarcasm and told you so’s on the championship trophy everyone awarded them in the past 48 hours.
May 31st, 2012 at 10:20 PM
From what I saw, OKC hit a lot of long jumpers. Durant did a nice job mixing in some drives and not settling. SA did a weak job of identifying outside shooters in transition or when setting up their half-court defense. OKC did what they needed to do. I think we’ll see more Tony Parker here. Manu didnt have his best half.
May 31st, 2012 at 10:21 PM
Okc had a lot of points in the paint(26) which is impressive.

May 31st, 2012 at 10:25 PM
Well your sample size fucking sucks compared to mine.
May 31st, 2012 at 10:32 PM
If OKC didnt have those overthrown full court passes a few times a game, they’d have an easy 8-10 points more
May 31st, 2012 at 10:38 PM
I wouldnt want to be in that locker room tonight with an angry Popovich. Just feels like it will end up with the Spurs bitchslapping OKC on saturday
May 31st, 2012 at 10:38 PM
Danny green needs to get the fuck out of this game.
May 31st, 2012 at 10:47 PM
Brooks finally realized he needed to leave Thabo and Ibaka in the game…and the thunder are hitting a million threes..
May 31st, 2012 at 11:03 PM
*cue kneejerk overreaction favoring the Thunder on Friday*
this is the same type of game Indiana had in game 3 versus Miami..Indiana played really good D, shot the lights out, and Miami couldn’t hit shit all night. Spurs will come back pissed off and motivated on Saturday..watch out
