LeBron Laughs, LeBron Dominates, Heat Hammer Celtics in Game One of JV Conference Finals
Heat 93, Celtics 79 can be summed up quickly in this video: D Wade (22 points) drives and scores. Then Boston had a shot blocked (Miami had 11 for the game; the Celtics just one), and at the other end LeBron (32 points) attacked the basket, got hammered by KG, and at the :50 mark, let out a big laugh, followed by ‘YEAAAAAAAA’ three times. Garnett stands there, hands on hips, powerless.
Boston’s got no chance.
Who needs a supporting cast – Miami missed 20 of 25 three-point attempts, including Chalmers and Battier going 2-for-15 – when you’ve got the best 1-2 punch in the NBA? I think the last time Chris Bosh’s name was mentioned was after Miami’s game three loss to Indiana. The Heat are 4-0 since with wins by 8, 32, 12 and 14. Average margin of victory since the “Trade Wade?” talk: 16.5.
Paul Pierce’s postseason struggles continued – 5-of-18 shooting and for just the second time in the playoffs, he didn’t get to the foul line – and Ray Allen (1-of-7 in 38 minutes) was atrocious. Power forward Brandon Bass collected two rebounds in 34 minutes. Good luck finding anyone on the bench who wants to take a shot.
Now can Scott Brooks get his act together so we can see LeBron vs. Durant in the Finals? Please?

agreed, celtics have no shot. too old, too slow, too injured.
that being said, i really hope the thunder or the spurs whip miami’s ass in the finals.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
I don’t know if Boston is tired or if they got collectively old between games 5 and 6 in the Philly series. I’m leaning towards the latter.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
rut roh…smells like bronny’s coming out party.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
This series is going to be the opposite of the WCF. Boston is horrific to watch offensively.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
Boston’s biggest mistake was losing Game 6 to the Sixers. They could have used the extra rest. Pierce looked like he was in slow motion with the ball, and you can tell Allen is struggling when he’s missing FTs.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:20 AM
Love that picture.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Now can Scott Brooks get his act together so we can see LeBron vs. Durant in the Finals? Please?
For the love of God THIS. I’m going to have to root for the Heat if the Spurs win the series, and I’d rather NOT have to root for the Heat, thank you very much.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
I’ve definitely turned a corner on San Antonio. Used to hate them when they were in the Pistons way during the mid-00s. Now I can’t wait for them to win their 5th. I want Ginobli to have a Finals MVP trophy.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
Any data on the W-L record for the Heat when only 2 of the Big 3 play in the game? They just seem to play a lot better in these instances.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
rut roh…smells like bronny’s coming out party.
can you have a coming out party after 8 years in the league?
May 29th, 2012 at 10:27 AM
I must be the only one who thinks Heat-Spurs will be a more entertaining series than Heat-Thunder. I’m biased as Tim Duncan is the all-time favorite player, but I think Spurs gives Heat a better fight than the Thunders will. Spurs are lot deeper and have more offensive firepower to challenge Miami.

yea…obama just started supporting gay marriage recently.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
yes, especially since the previous coming out parties had to be cancelled due to severe choking in the last 2 minutes of the games.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Kaiser, you are not alone. I like the Thunder, but it’s all about rooting against the Heat and I think Spurs pose a bigger threat to the Heat than the Thunder.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
LeBron has an opportunity to pull a Jerry West this year.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
What LeBron needs is a Westbrook to blame.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
wade and bosh?
May 29th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
I’d love to see the Spurs just keep scorching through under the radar and then nuking somebody in a dull Finals. Just for them to drop a turd in the collective punch bowl.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:38 AM

One title in a down year somehow cancels out numerous years of failures?
I thought that was called a Peyton Manning?
May 29th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
As long as one of the two playing is LeBron they’ll be fine.

LeBron was a Teflon Don for a while, looks like he passed the torch to Durant and Rose. Don’t worry if those guys dont win titles in the next few years we’ll turn on them as well.

i find myself rooting for bron bron this year for a change. i guess i’m tired of the “he’s only so good because he doesn’t have any rings” critism. i’d like to see him take the next step so i can start hating him for different reasons.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
I love this notion how the team that finished tied for the best record in the entire League and hasn’t lost a game since April is operating under the radar. I guess we have to manufacture an underdog to root for against the big bad, old meanie Heat
May 29th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
LeBron was a Teflon Don for a while, looks like he passed the torch to Durant and Rose. Don’t worry if those guys dont win titles in the next few years we’ll turn on them as well.
no, neither of them acts like a douchetrigger. lebron has done plenty to open himself to attack, on and off the court

just had this sort of conversation with the wee ones this morning. one of them said ‘racoons are mean’ and i lectured them on the fact that only humans do things from spite and all animals do is try to survive each day, no emotions or sentiment
then i made fun of her for saying racoons are mean
May 29th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Spurs will be the favorites to win the Finals against the Heat.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
I’m not saying it doesn’t happen. I’m just pointing out the folly in it all.
May 29th, 2012 at 10:47 AM

i’m not saying i think he’s acted like a douche i’m saying he’s done enough for lots of people to think so. what can you identify as questionable behavior by rose or durant, on or off court?
May 29th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
no, neither of them acts like a douchetrigger. lebron has done plenty to open himself to attack, on and off the court

May 29th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
one guy made a decision, in not the best manner, to take his talents as a free agent to another team. The other guy cheated on his SAT, and got his schools NC runner up status revoked. One guy has his loyalty questioned because he left a squad after 8!! seasons, but is also the same guy who stayed loyal to his high school and mates when it would have been easier to go to one of the HS basketball powerhouses, and remains loyal to many of those same people and community to this day. The other guy went to 50 high schools in 4 years. See, everyone has some douchetastic actions in their background. All 3 of them seem to be good dudes.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
They once found him ripping and chewing his way into a closed trap, not to reach the bait but to get at a rival, old M6, who had been caught earlier.
any chance he was hungry?
May 29th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
You think Rose allegedly cheating on his SAT is akin to the ego blow job LeBron gave himself? Interesting…
May 29th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Heat play better defense. I think. So I have no idea.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
This is so fucking funny.

May 29th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
How is this a “down year?” OKC is playing great, the Spurs are playing out of their minds, and the Heat are looking awesome. Why are you manufacturing an excuse in case the Heat win it all?
May 29th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
You know I hate his mechanics more than anyone. He frustrates the fuck out of me.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:09 AM

May 29th, 2012 at 11:10 AM
So this would be a $50,000 fine in today’s NFL, right?
May 29th, 2012 at 11:10 AM
Heat only look awesome because of the inferior competition.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Fuck that. Rose shouldn’t have even had to take the SATs.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:12 AM

May 29th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
Yes sir, boss man. Whatever you say, boss.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:15 AM
I don’t think that’s the case so much as the Spurs don’t have the any of the league’s marquee players whom you can point to and attribute their success to. You can’t even count Duncan at this point as a marquee player…..as great as Duncan has been in his career, he’s obviously on the downside of his career.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:15 AM
See, everyone has some douchetastic actions in their background.
yes, everyone does. rose was not being a douche at memphis he was playing the system, enabled by his father/boss/guy/coach who has the buck stop at his desk.
who went to 50 high schools in 4 years? durant or rose? either way, that’s not douchey, that’s listening to his parents/advisors who are also playing the system
May 29th, 2012 at 11:18 AM
Pacers won more games than anyone OKC or SA has beaten in the playoffs.
But if they played in the West they would have won like 5 total games.
/morons
May 29th, 2012 at 11:19 AM
If the Pacers is the best team you can mention, you probably shouldn’t mention anything. The East is a total shit show. Just a terrible, terrible conference.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:19 AM
One cheated on his SAT’s and eventually had his college team stripped of the championship participation. The other indulged in the recruitment of his services. Rose’s actions were worst. LeBron took a bigger hit for the Wes Unseld jersey.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:19 AM

Well, without Rose Memphis loses in the Sweet 16…if they even get there, so I think blaming him for the loss of the title (which is all it is, as the CBB world remembers what happened) is much ado about nothing for the most part. I think what LBJ did was so selfish and all about “me me me.” When he backed it up with his insane WWF entrance shit when the new Heat met the fans (not his decision, but he could have totally stopped it if he wanted to) and then said he was gonna win “5, 6, 7…championships” he was all but asking to be the villain.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:24 AM
Oh the Pacers beat a Magic team without Dwight Howard…so difficult, coop…..you’re sooooo right
May 29th, 2012 at 11:26 AM
The Celtics lost 3 or 4 regular players before or during the season and still won their division.. Thats how shitty the east was this year..
May 29th, 2012 at 11:26 AM
I kinda get what you are saying, but Parker was voted in the top 5 for MVP. But they do not have somebody on the Durant/James/Wade level.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:27 AM
what LBJ did was so selfish and all about “me me me.” When he backed it up with his insane WWF entrance shit when the new Heat met the fans (not his decision, but he could have totally stopped it if he wanted to) and then said he was gonna win “5, 6, 7…championships” he was all but asking to be the villain.
yes, and also disappearing/letting other take over at the end of playoff games, and taking down youtube videos. i’m still waiting for douchey behavior examples for rose/durant
May 29th, 2012 at 11:27 AM
EL OH EL. Apparently beating a Dwightless Magic team is cause for celebration!
/wanking
May 29th, 2012 at 11:30 AM
Which means…what exactly? You can’t strip people’s memories. Kansas didn’t play themselves in 2008, regardless of the NCAA’s attempt to revise history.
Besides, Lebron almost put his team in the same situation in HS when he accepted those jerseys and almost got his team DQ’d.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:30 AM
Aka they have the perfect team where no one seeks glory, fame, or attention over the team. Plus, they have a strong coach who doesn’t suffer fools and bullshit theatrics
May 29th, 2012 at 11:31 AM
I think he meant during the regular season.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:32 AM
Exactly. People who get all huffy about records being stripped always fail to realize that the games were actually played…and televised.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:34 AM
Good to know that beating hapless Utah and the freaking Clippers is an achievement worth touting.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:37 AM
I see. Pacers were a really good team this year, but I still think they would be a 6 seed in the West. However, I do think they are better than Boston.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:40 AM
Coop, its more that the Spurs have won 19 in a row, 33 of 36, and in those losses, Pop didnt play Manu, Duncan, or Parker and in one of them Bynum had the monster rebounding game.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:41 AM
The fact that you’re resorting to comparing LeBron’s behavior as a 26 year old with 8 years in the pros to that of a 16-17 year old that still has a year of HS left pretty much highlights the thoughts of LeBron’s detractors.
Also, Rose cheating on his SAT at that age (most likely under the advisement of trusted adults) should never be held against him at this point. It’s a sad thing to bring up, actually. I love how you don’t even bring up Calipari in all of this, and put the loss of a NC appearance on Rose alone. As if they would have gotten even close to there without him in the first place.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:43 AM
They’d have finished ahead of Denver and Z-Bo less Memphis, I think. Maybe the Clippers, they have a pretty solid bench.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:46 AM
I see, the old “if that team played in the SEC, they’d win minus potato (/SEC math) footbaw games paaawwwl”
May 29th, 2012 at 11:48 AM
Jose,
Indy’s bench wasn’t that good after all and I was one propping them up during the season. They just had a lot of warm bodies that could eat up minutes and hustle around the court. The Spurs bench would destroy the pacers bench 10 out of 10 games. I also blame Vogel for terrible rotations and trying to play the entire 2nd unit together. They got embarrassed by Miami because Indy had no real scoring threat off the bench
May 29th, 2012 at 11:50 AM
We had this Pacers conversation a few days back. There’s zero evidence that they would have a worse record by playing in the West. They had a significantly better win % against the West than the East. I just don’t know how you could confidently state that they wouldn’t also have made the 3 seed in the East. I can’t say they would, but I can’t say they wouldn’t. Actually, the only real measure we have suggests that they might be even better.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:52 AM
*made the 3 seed in the West
May 29th, 2012 at 11:57 AM
The Pacers were not a great team, but neither were the Lakers/Clippers/Grizzlies in the West. There was some awful basketball played in that Grizzlies-Clippers series.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:58 AM
Exactly. League was top heavy with Heat, Bulls, Spurs, and Thunder.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:59 AM
I think having a few less games against the Bobcats, Wizards, Cavs and Nets and a few more games against the Kings, Wolves, Warriors and Hornets (as well as the diff in divisional games) could result in a 2-3 win swing. that would put them in the range of a 5-6 seed in the West.
Again, very good team, but Coop saying they are much better than the Jazz (yes), Clippers (even), Mavs (Maybe) and Lakers (no way) is what because they had a couple more wins in the regular season is what sparked this.
May 29th, 2012 at 11:59 AM
Although I thought the Lakers, Grizz, and Celtics would be better.
May 29th, 2012 at 12:00 PM
*better than they are, not better than those top 4.
/dammit
May 29th, 2012 at 12:01 PM
I think a lot of the conference perception shifted to with the Rose injury.
May 29th, 2012 at 12:02 PM
It means he cheated on his SAT’s and got his school in trouble because of it. Memories be damned.
May 29th, 2012 at 12:08 PM
Dwight’s injury probably didn’t help matters
wouldn’t it be the 4-5 range? Assuming the 3rd seed in the West would be swapped to the East.
May 29th, 2012 at 12:08 PM
Here you go again, bud. Never seen someone hate on a 16-17 year old so much for cheating on a test.
May 29th, 2012 at 12:10 PM

you could’ve just this’d me
May 29th, 2012 at 12:11 PM
I like the way you blame him for the Heat entrance, acknowledge it wasn’t his decision, and then say he could have stopped it if he wanted to. Nothing like twisting the story to fit your narrative. Really if the worst thing you can come up with is the organization sponsored introduction, then there really isn’t much there to match the amount of vitriol thrown at the guy. His free agency IS about him, him, him. He’s the one being recruited. His free agency just happened to be the biggest one in the history of the NBA, so it was going to be big news regardless. When you have teams tanking seasons 2 years in advance just for a shot at him, why would he think otherwise?
May 29th, 2012 at 12:12 PM
Come on Vez, I at least expanded greatly on the ideas.
/I actually missed your comment
May 29th, 2012 at 12:12 PM
Rose, Bosh, Howard, not to mention the Celtics being crippled. One underrated aspect of the Spurs run is how their sweeps have allowed their old guys to rest between series. Celtics have not had such luxury.
May 29th, 2012 at 12:13 PM
Was he at gunpoint when he proclaimed they would win 8 championships? Sorry, I missed that.
May 29th, 2012 at 12:17 PM
Ok. So Lebron cheated his eligibility rules and almost got his school in trouble. So they’re even on that particular point I guess.
May 29th, 2012 at 12:19 PM
One underrated aspect of the Spurs run is how their sweeps have allowed their old guys to rest between series. Celtics have not had such luxury.
really, they have it all. rest, great mix of bench/starters and young/playoff tested, and best coach still coaching if not in the league when everyone’s playing
May 29th, 2012 at 12:20 PM
Late to the party, but obviously not much trouble last night for the Heat. Lebron and Wade were great and some of the bench dudes hit the shots they needed to to make up the difference. Rondo and Garnett are going to have to play really, really well for Boston to win any games in this series it looks like.
I have no idea how Mike Miller keeps hitting shots though when he can barely sit upright. Impressive.
Joel Anthony continues to play basketball like a landmine victim (he has bad hands).
May 29th, 2012 at 12:21 PM
Oh, bullshit. These players at 17/18 understand exactly the importance of the SAT and the gravity of cheating on it. Before every sanctioned AAU/Showcase event, they have the player meeting where amongst other things that message is made crystal clear. You can talk about whether or not he should have to take it, but whether or not he understood the gravity of what he was doing? He did unless he’s retarded.
May 29th, 2012 at 12:21 PM
Oh, and the obvious: the refs were comically bad last night. Like, wow. Those techs they called on KG, Ray Allen, and Doc were just beyond ridiculous. God I wish the NBA officials would all get kidnapped.
May 29th, 2012 at 12:23 PM
This is a surprisingly naive take.
May 29th, 2012 at 12:26 PM
No, he got a free jersey and almost lost HIS eligibility, while Rose cheated on a test and wiped out the season for an entire team. I don’t hate Rose, and I don’t think he should be punished because as you said memories are always there and he made money for the school his one year there.
May 29th, 2012 at 12:28 PM
I’m just glad he stopped at 8 instead of 20, because people would have came up to LeBron at 46 after he won his 19th and called him a bum for not winning the 20th.
May 29th, 2012 at 12:29 PM
If you don’t think LBJ could have stopped it, you’re dumb as a rock and probably believe the twin towers collapsed thanks to the CIA and an inside man.

Seeing as how he’s only getting 3 at most, I think 8 is safely out of reach.

Its naive to think that Derrick Rose at 18 years old playing at the elite level in HS and Summer ball didn’t have an understanding of the process or consequences. There are kids who can recite the message and film by heart.

darrell, this all started by comparing attackable behavior on court and off of lebron, rose and durant.
in lebron’s corner, we have overblown ego behavior and pretty much universally recognized strange behavior at the end of important games
in rose’s corner we had cheating on an SAT and missing FTs in a title game
in durant’s corner we had playing at a lot of high schools
can you not at least admit that there are more reasons to criticize lebron’s actions as an adult compared to the actions of high-school aged kids being advised by adults? plus, i haven’t heard of rose/durant shirking responsibility as team leaders
ego behavior as an adult is douchey, gaming the system on the advice of grwonups is not douchey

Yeah, LeBron’s first day with the squad (Pat Riley and Dwyane Wade’s squad at that) and he’s putting the kabosh to a fan celebration, the exact same kind they gave for Shaq. Get the fuck outta here.

Vez, overblown ego is such a general term, you’d have to be more specific. He’s a guy who has been criticized for particpating in antics on the court with his teammates that other superstars supposedly wouldn’t. You can’t have an overblown ego, and participate in those antics with the 12th man on the team.

i don’t care anymore darrell. it’s easy for me to see the diff between lebron and the other two, especially off-court, and i don’t feel like convincing you. this is all pretty personal points of view anyway, not black/white
but on the court? no way you can say lebron’s leadership behavior is better than rose/durant’s

But that’s more of a results based thing isn’t it? Had the NCAA handled the Rose thing during the season or before wouldn’t that have just affected his eligility?
And morally, I am just as fine with what Rose did as I was with Lebron accepting the jerseys, because fuck the NCAA in general and fuck the NBA’s age limit. I hate monopolies.

Thats the point. Hate is personal, and with LeBron its hate. When you hate on someone any shortcoming, real or perceived, is magnified and used to further feed that hate. Hating on LeBron has become an internet sport with people competing to come up with different words to support the same lame reasoning.

………..and fuck the SAT.
May 29th, 2012 at 1:42 PM
You’re kind of arguing in circles though. LeBron has given us plenty of reasons that are universally recognized to dislike his behavior as an adult, as Vez has said about 5 times now. Derrick Rose has not really done so. You are comparing adult behavior to that of a HS student. It makes no sense.

I have as well. Couldn’t stand them after they beat the Knicks in ’99, but that was just sour grapes. There’s nothing not to like- maybe just Ginobili’s flopping- with Pop, Duncan and the way they seem to sew young, quality character guys into the fold. Amazing how they’ve won at a .700 clip for this long, and went from being the best defensive team in the league to arguably the top offensive club now.
San Antonio/Miami would be a great “Good” vs. “Evil” battle to follow if your team is out and you need a subplot to watch. Of course, San Antonio/Boston would be an even better example, except Boston doesn’t belong and probably got as lucky with key injuries to opponents/prospective opponents than any team I can think of in recent memory.

I’m sincerely astonished that there is venom being spewed for a HS kid that cheated on the SAT. Especially from Darrell, which I did not expect. I’m cool with defending LeBron’s behavior, I just don’t see how throwing HS Rose under the bus to do so makes any sense at all.
May 29th, 2012 at 3:14 PM
LeBron was well liked before he made his decision to leave Cleveland. Hell, this used to bascially be a LeBron site. For this amount of venom to be held simply because he chose to make an announcement on national tv is ridiculous, especially when he is playing the best basketball of his career. You would think the dude killed, a kid, a dog, and a priest with one swing. I’m not the biggest LeBron fan or defender, but damn, game is game. Respect it.

we all agree darrell that lbj is great. you havent addressed his leadership
May 29th, 2012 at 4:33 PM
A 3 time MVP who has led 2 undermanned teams to the NBA Finals? If you’re going to address his failures, then also acknowledge his successes. 30 points in a row against Detroit. Leading Miami over Chicago and Boston last year? He’s been a leader who hasn’t climbed all the way to the top of the mountain. Like I said in the beginning, he needs a Westbrook to take all of the heat and spotlight from him like happens for Durant.
