Is Rajon Rondo Going to Be a Problem For the Heat?
Probably. But which kind of problem?
A) Pesky gnat. A constant annoyance, but nothing more. Boston’s too old and too worn down from a grueling 14 games against the Hawks and 76ers to do any damage against the Heat and the mighty Wade-LeBron duo.
B) Series-changer. Rondo’s a horrible matchup for Mario Chalmers, and if the Heat have no answer for one of the NBA’s best point guards, Boston could steal this series.
In case you missed Saturday night’s game seven, Rajon Rondo recorded his ninth playoff triple double (18 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) in Boston’s 85-75 win over Philadelphia. Larry Bird has 10. Probably worth mentioning: Rondo is 26 years old. He’s got plenty of time to try and catch Magic Johnson’s NBA record of 30 playoff triple doubles.
As for individual matchups, it doesn’t get any better than pretend tough-guy Kevin Garnett against actual tough guy Udonis Haslem. I would have said LeBron vs. Pierce, but the latter is only shooting 41 percent in the playoffs and 34 percent from deep. Both are down from his regular season numbers.
I’ll take Miami in five, just like last year.

Is Boston going to break 80 points in any game this series? No??? Then it’s unlikely Rondo will be much of a problem for Miami.
May 28th, 2012 at 5:40 PM
i may just bet this one game by game. the heat at -550…i’d be all in if it was 300, but laying 550 to win 100?
May 28th, 2012 at 5:46 PM
time to try and catch Magic
pet peeve alert
it’s try TO catch. to try and catch, would be two different action. trying and catching
May 28th, 2012 at 5:47 PM
Lolz.
May 28th, 2012 at 5:49 PM
Miami in 4 or 5. If they couldn’t beat them last year when the Heat were less organized and the Celtics were healthy (IIRC), then they stand no chance this year with Lebron and Wade hitting thier stride.
May 28th, 2012 at 5:54 PM
karma, bosh or no bosh matters not?
May 28th, 2012 at 5:56 PM
Didn’t know taking a cheap shot at a guy and then talking big about it made you a tough guy. Learn something new every day.
May 28th, 2012 at 6:42 PM
Heat in 5. LeBron is a man on a mission. I don’t think greatness can be denied forever.
May 28th, 2012 at 6:50 PM
ok, took heat for the series, m475. m8 tonight and under 180
May 28th, 2012 at 7:07 PM
Had Rondo at 20% for the final three games (won Game 3, lost Game 4 in OT, were in Game 5 until the final minutes). So no, they weren’t healthy.
May 28th, 2012 at 7:08 PM
I’ll take the Heat in 6 games, since the Knicks won 1 game against the Heat and the Celtics > Knicks. /logic
May 28th, 2012 at 7:16 PM
The heat dont play defense as consistently as the Sixers did. boston struggled with Philly all season. boston pushed miami’s shit in during the regular season. There will be a couple games played in the 90s and low 100s but we will get a mutual stinker in the 80s. I want Boston to win but i figure Miami will win in 7.
Of course Rondo will be a problem. Miami hasn’t faced a really good PG in the playoffs yet. George Hill, Darren Collison, Baron Davis, and Mike Bibby? Please…Chalmers will actually have to play defense and back up his claim that he’s the best PG left in the playoffs…..
May 28th, 2012 at 7:31 PM
pretend tough-guy Kevin Garnett against actual tough guy Udonis Haslem
lost in the shuffle: pretend useful player Udonis Haslem vs. actually useful Kevin Garenett.
May 28th, 2012 at 7:32 PM
Lebron can lockdown Rondo.
/the “Lebron locked down Rose last year” crowd
May 28th, 2012 at 7:35 PM
Most importantly, which boston player will push Wade to the edge so he will commit a flagrant? He’s due for another punk ass bitch move.
May 28th, 2012 at 7:49 PM
Did I miss the extra game the Celts played for fun?
/splitting hairs
//tired of this talking point since I’m old and have watched too many games
May 28th, 2012 at 7:52 PM
Fuck Lebron. Roll Tribe.
/DL Pronk bring up LaPorta
//Get well very soon Droobs and Smooth please
May 28th, 2012 at 8:25 PM
Red Sox sure put the fist in Fister today. Suck it, detroit
May 28th, 2012 at 8:31 PM
Watched that game. Tigers got bent over by the Umps. Drastically changed the outcome of the game. Oh well, I thought it was great. Family members were calling for 7th inning executions. I just smiled.
May 28th, 2012 at 8:41 PM
Red sox have had their share of bad calls aganst them this season so it was nice to see someone else get hosed
May 28th, 2012 at 8:44 PM
I loathe the black numbering on the green jerseys for the celtics
May 28th, 2012 at 9:07 PM
Well..at least they aren’t down 20 like i expected it would be…Lebron went off..rest of team isnt doing so well.
Ray Allen just cant keep missing open shots. Its so weird to see him like that.
May 28th, 2012 at 9:13 PM
Forget 80 points…will they get to 40 this game?
May 28th, 2012 at 9:16 PM
An NBa ref making a bad technical foul call? No shit!
If Miller is going to play like this, Of course Miami will win.
May 28th, 2012 at 9:28 PM
Wow, Danny Crawford is a shitty ref
May 28th, 2012 at 9:34 PM
Raw livechat
May 28th, 2012 at 9:34 PM
i don’t like KG and i’ll admit that was an awful tech.
May 28th, 2012 at 9:36 PM
Youd think Mark Davis and Joey Crawford were calling this game……what a fucking disaster from the refs.
May 28th, 2012 at 9:37 PM
Sequences like this do not exactly inspire confidence in the notion that these games are entirely on the level.
May 28th, 2012 at 9:40 PM
I really am surprised it is only a 5 point game…would be 3 if Allen didnt miss 2 of 3 free throws on that last visit..
May 28th, 2012 at 9:44 PM

May 28th, 2012 at 9:48 PM
If you would have told me Boston got called for three technicals, ray allen missed 4 free throws, LBJ had 17, and the celtics are only down 2? Wow.
May 28th, 2012 at 9:49 PM
My money is on Hernia with Francesa.
May 28th, 2012 at 9:50 PM
I think the Heat will win this series in 4 or 5.
May 28th, 2012 at 9:57 PM
My money is on Hernia with Francesa.
in the parlor with the hairbrush?
May 28th, 2012 at 10:01 PM
Refs reviewed the Anthony putback on the LBJ airballed 3…correctly changed it to a shot clock violation. So acore is tied at half
May 28th, 2012 at 10:12 PM
Yea, KG wrapped up LeBron but it still doesnt excuse James throwing an elbow
May 28th, 2012 at 10:16 PM
Good timeout. I could see Miami just running away with this game right now Celtic’s feet look heavy.
May 28th, 2012 at 10:20 PM
Battier sure starts a lot of shit.
May 28th, 2012 at 10:20 PM
Rondo may have deserved that tech. Nothing major, but he clearly tried to toss Battier into the crowd
May 28th, 2012 at 10:21 PM
Where’s cocky heat fan?
May 28th, 2012 at 10:22 PM
Celtic’s feet look heavy.
do these shoes make me look fat?
May 28th, 2012 at 10:22 PM
Miami getting what they need from the bench…fuck…
May 28th, 2012 at 10:23 PM
Not that play, but rondo has driven twice before and gotten hit with no call… At least be consistent, refs

Who? coop?
May 28th, 2012 at 10:25 PM
That would be the long time contributor Ceez. Just waiting for the point where it becomes safe to crow and cackle about the Heat winning and he’ll be back.
May 28th, 2012 at 10:29 PM
Oh, and while there are lots of different(and probably better but I haven’t experienced them) types of BBQ, damn I realized how much I missed SC mustard sauce and pork with hush puppies and fried chicken this weekend.
May 28th, 2012 at 10:29 PM
Ehh..coop is tame compared to most heat fans

i gained 10 pounds reading that. tbl meetup where heellacious just ate!
May 28th, 2012 at 10:35 PM
I listen to LeBatard’s radio show in Miami. Some heat fans are just embarrassing. They can’t handle any criticism. Nothing is Miami’s fault
May 28th, 2012 at 10:38 PM
I just got power back so I missed most of the 2nd and 3rd. I’ll attempt to make up for lost time. Celtics will lose by 15, but it will be the fault of 1 or two questionable techs (where the FT’s were missed anyway).
May 28th, 2012 at 10:38 PM
Ill say that coop and Sean Jean are the only reasonable heat fans here. They usually can see the big picture
May 28th, 2012 at 10:41 PM
And I’m a LeBron fan, fuck the Heat.
/makes no sense
//maybe that means I’m a Heat fan
May 28th, 2012 at 10:42 PM
Disagree. Celtics will lose because they have sucked.
May 28th, 2012 at 10:43 PM
Ahh yes, the ol’ “assume all celtics fans will blame refs” bullshit spewed here. Simply put: Miami actually took the game seriously in the 3rd quarter and played solid defense. Ray Allen still can’t get in a rhythm. Miller, Battier, and Jones showed up with the deep ball and that’s the biggest reason they are up big now. LBJ is his usual self.
If Miami actually focused the entire game, they wouldnt have been tied at half. They won’t get away with that against a better team.
May 28th, 2012 at 10:43 PM
And I’m a LeBron fan, fuck the Heat.

//maybe that means I’m a Heat fan
You need to see Dr. SC immediately to sort out any kind of fanhood confusion
May 28th, 2012 at 10:44 PM
Spurs over miami in 5
May 28th, 2012 at 10:45 PM
Seynor- all I’ll say is if you are ever near Charleston SC- drive a bit more south and visit Bo-Bo’s BBQ on Edisto Island. They have excellent cue, sauces (not just mustard based but ones that comprise most of the Carolinas) and wonderful cole slaw that is sublimely light. Po Pigs is the name of the restaurant. Typical SC BBQ buffet but on the upper end of taste in my experience.
May 28th, 2012 at 10:45 PM
The Miami bench couldnt do shit all year and they decide to show up the past week..
May 28th, 2012 at 10:46 PM
Just get the final margin under 10…
May 28th, 2012 at 10:47 PM
It’s bad when i wish Jermaine O’Neal and Chris Wilcox weren’t out for the year…
May 28th, 2012 at 10:51 PM
I’m very surprised at Haslem’s lack of playing time
May 28th, 2012 at 10:54 PM
heel, i’ve been as far as aiken. i’m guessing that’s a world away from the beach/islands, culturally
May 28th, 2012 at 10:54 PM
Hey, a foul call on Battier. About fucking time.
If boston could only have 4 quarters like the 2nd..
May 28th, 2012 at 10:58 PM
Miami just hustles more than Boston. That’s where Bradley is missed the most. He always dove for loose balls the extra possession.
May 28th, 2012 at 10:59 PM
Miami’s just better, AP.
I just hope we see LeBron vs. Durant in the Finals.
May 28th, 2012 at 11:00 PM
“Yeaaaaaa. Yeaaaaaa. Yeaaaaaa.”
/LeBron talking shit to Garnett
May 28th, 2012 at 11:00 PM
KG showed up tonight. Rest of you Celtics are bitches.
Definitely going to Game 4 on Sunday. Would be nice if it was a closeout.
May 28th, 2012 at 11:02 PM
Keep dreaming on that JMac..it will be Spurs-Heat.
miami is better, JMac..no doubt. It’s just amazing that boston has missed so many free throws and three pointers. Boston dominated Miami that way during the year and now their offense has gone cold. It is puzzling, even with guys beng nicked up.
May 28th, 2012 at 11:04 PM
Rondo had the opportunity to take the game over but he fizzled in the second half along with Pierce.
And wade makes some of the biggest bullshit shots ever. Incredible
May 28th, 2012 at 11:06 PM
Sasha Pavlovich getting scrub time. He was a key player on the Cavs.
/insert Cleveland fan saying LeBron should have stayed because he had plenty to work with
May 28th, 2012 at 11:07 PM
I get the feeling it will be fun to bet on the unders for this series. Although I don’t think we’ll be seeing it at 179 for game 2.
May 28th, 2012 at 11:07 PM
I will say that Doc’s rotations have been weird. stiemsma played alright in the first half but saw barely any time n the 2nd. Marquis Daniels barely sees the floor but should get regular sub minutes with allen and pierce not at 100 percent. He’ll play good defense and slash to the hoop.
Credit to Miami. Their role players showed up in a big way tonight and LeBron went into Cleveland mode.
May 28th, 2012 at 11:10 PM
Well- close but probably not quite the same. I dont have much experience with GA/SC borderline BBQ, but about 1 hour East of there will get you into what I grew up with. That’s the country where Thursday-Saturday buffets are the rule rather than the exception and you can count on sweet tea, a loaf of Merita bread on the table, and mustard-based sauce as the norm.
May 28th, 2012 at 11:11 PM
I still think Boston pushes it 6, but my disclaimer is that I don’t think the Heat role players will play that well again. If they do, the Heat could sweep and Coop will get his closeout game wish.
May 28th, 2012 at 11:11 PM

bosh will be back in a week
May 28th, 2012 at 11:15 PM
Chicago,
Thats what im hoping for. Its usually been one bench guy playing well, not most of them. Boston has to break out of this bad shooting slump to push it 6.
We should all root for the Spurs. I want to see how fast TBL checks out when its not LeBron v Durant in the finals
May 28th, 2012 at 11:17 PM
Love the BBQ from both carolinas but fuck north carolina cole slaw. Thats some awful crap
May 28th, 2012 at 11:21 PM
Battier had a nice game but aside from Miller they were 3-23 from 3 pt land and still won pretty handily.
May 28th, 2012 at 11:22 PM
That will happen when the opponent shoots under 35 percent.
May 28th, 2012 at 11:25 PM
Yup. Some places it’s included or the higher profile joints it’s ala carte.
Personally agree here. I’m not a big fan of the red vinegar-based slaw typical of middle-eastern NC(assuming that is what you are referring to ala Lexington, NC style BBQ slaw). I personally prefer the lighter balance of a vinegar and very slight buttermilk or mayo-based slaw that doesn’t come across so heavy or so acidic. Kind of like a lighter KFC-style slaw (I realize that comes across as something near heresy but it’s the most mainstream coleslaw that describes what I personally prefer). Not too heavy from the mayo but not too overly acidic from the straight red wine vinegar or cider vinegar-based slaw from central or eastern NC.
May 28th, 2012 at 11:30 PM
Yes, its the red vinegar based slaw i had in Greensboro one time. Thats heresy to cole slaw, IMO. Its gotta be the mayo/regular vinegar based slaw that has a slight bite but not much..and it shouldnt be watery or soupy..
May 28th, 2012 at 11:32 PM
Agreed AP.
May 28th, 2012 at 11:41 PM
As far as BBQ itself – im not picky at all. I like all variations of BBQ from across the country
