They can undo the first mistake quite easily. Fire Brown. He has no clue how to coach these players esp. the Lakers. Kobe & Fisher had won 5 titles, Gasol and others 2 and he’s going to “do it his way?” Seriously? Clue in. If you wanted to ruin a team I couldn’t think of a coach better suited to it than Brown on the Lakers.

I can’t see the Gasol Iguodala trade but if it did happen, it would be a great deal for the Lakers. I’d also try to get Bynum back in the fold. And I’d hire Shaw (as suggested on Twitter) as the coach (or possibly Rambis).

But, more than that, the Lakers need serious help on the bench. They have as bad a bench as anyone in the league – including the Heat (who were desperate to field a starting 5 a year ago).

Realistically, the Lakers have maybe one last shot if they get 1) A new coach; 2) A good player for Gasol; 3) some bench depth.

The soft-cap is incredibly confusing

In (incredibly) simple terms: If over the cap, can only sign your own players to new contracts. A few exceptions exist (most popular one allowing you to sign a player to a midlevel contract as long as you are under the luxury tax).

Trade Pau to a team with cap space, then take that space & sign the UFA(s).

They are so far over the cap that even if they could do that, they would still be about 10M over the cap and unable to sign any UFA (beyond a midlevel exception guy).

You’ve got to keep Andrew Bynum. He only turns 25 in October. Yeah, he’s got maturity issues (and his career has been injury-riddled), but unless you’re going to get Dwight Howard in return – you’re not – how can you move a 7-footer who hasn’t reached his prime yet?

So you’ve basically turned into Skip Bayless, letting the stats speak louder than his actions. How can you keep a player that so very obviously quits in the playoffs–he was an absolute no show for the last three quarters of basketball–when you can trade him for, oh, I don’t know, think of a package from Minnesota or New Jersey Brooklyn…

Bynum may have talent, but as of the now, the total package is garbage.
