Philly at Boston, Game 5: The Celtics Seem to Always Win These Crucial Games
No, I don’t have history to back it up, but it just feels like a game Boston will win. The last time I was truly shocked Boston lost a home game in the playoffs: May 2009, game seven against the Orlando Magic. The Celtics had won game five at home and then lost game six on the road. The Magic went bananas on 3-pointers and routed the defending NBA champs, 101-82. It was one of those jaw-dropping performances Orlando hasn’t really been able to pull off since that postseason: 13-of-21 on three-pointers and hammering Boston in the 4th quarter (35-21), coupled with a Paul Pierce 4-for-13 clunker. You could put an asterisk by the series if you’d like – Kevin Garnett didn’t play due to injury.
I don’t expect to be shocked tonight. Barring a Superhuman LeBron/Wade-like performance out of Evan Turner/Lou WIlliams/Jrue Holiday/Andre Iguodala, I don’t see a Philly upset happening. The Celtics, who will be without Avery Bradley (shoulder) are 5.5 point favorites. I’ll be rooting for the 76ers, but I’m guessing they’ll lose, 88-80.

I don’t think a superhuman effort is necessary, as the Celtics have hardly been unbeatable at home in the playoffs so far (3-2; two very close wins).
Will take the C’s, though, and neither team breaking 90. Really looking forward to OKC-Lakers, and the inevitable Lima Twitter meltdown. Will be glorious.
May 21st, 2012 at 7:29 PM
I think both road teams win tonight. Give me Sixers 89-84 and Lakers 103-97.
/Predictions sure to fail
May 21st, 2012 at 7:42 PM
Sixers are hitting just about everything…fuck..
May 21st, 2012 at 8:18 PM
Um, yea. I think every reasonable basketball fan puts an asterisk next to that series. Still, injuries occur in basketball- I don’t necessarily subscribe to the Simmons’ school of thought regarding putting asterisks next to every championship that ever occurred during a playoffs when a star player was hurt for a contender.
/that feels like a run on sentence
May 21st, 2012 at 8:21 PM
Fuck you Clay Bucholtz…2 bases loaded walks? Go away
May 21st, 2012 at 8:25 PM
Sixers first half … not like anything I expected.
Also – Eric … saw your ? about the Spurs. They made the headline of the roundup. They were the top link in the roundup. Not sure what more you were hoping for.
May 21st, 2012 at 8:29 PM
Garnett’s about to start cussing at the air again. Not a good sign for the 76ers.
May 21st, 2012 at 8:34 PM
A post like all the other games got. I mean, they are the most dominant team playing, leading in scoring to boot. Do you not watch the west coast games, since they are on so late? Or are you having trouble finding an angle to write on with the Spurs? Not trying to say you’re a hater or anything, just genuinely curious why they got relegated to the roundup again?
It looks like there is more scoring than I anticipated in the 1st game. One of them might even break 100.
May 21st, 2012 at 8:36 PM
Thats the best stretch boston has played since game 3. Brandon Bass…WITH AUTHORITY.
May 21st, 2012 at 8:36 PM
Spurs definitely deserve more attention than just a Roundup mention, IMO. They’re easily the most fun team to watch in the playoffs, not to mention they’re also the team that’s playing best right now.
May 21st, 2012 at 8:36 PM
I LOL’d at KG kicking Brand in the shin.
May 21st, 2012 at 8:38 PM
Spurs have killed everyone the past month and a half. I see the games with OKC being close but i dont see the thunder being able to beat them 4 out of 7 times.
May 21st, 2012 at 8:39 PM
No, I don’t have history to back it up, but it just feels like a game Boston will win.
Classic.
Why is there hardly anyone at the Yankees game? I thought it was a Royals home game when I turned on the tv.
May 21st, 2012 at 8:39 PM
Seriously, the Sixers are hitting almost everything today..even with hands in the face.
May 21st, 2012 at 8:39 PM
Oh, rain delay type things. Makes sense.
May 21st, 2012 at 8:40 PM
KCR,
It rained most of the day down in NYC and its still raining
May 21st, 2012 at 8:41 PM
Can someone tell me if comparing Brandon Bass to David West is really unreasonable?
May 21st, 2012 at 8:42 PM
Glad to see Moustakas crush a ball to right…hit off the pole but still a HR. Paulino got out of that bases loaded jam by striking out Cano, the Centaur, and by Gordon robbing Ibanez of a bases clearing double
May 21st, 2012 at 8:43 PM
My hope is some how the Lakers can win tonight and push it to at least 6 games. That could give the Spurs a little bigger advantage in Game 1. For some reason, Parker seems to do great against the Thunder, despite Westbrook and Ibaka’s presence. Hopefully Leonard can slow Durant. Right now, I think Spurs in 6, with all the games being pretty close.
But to me, that is the Finals, because whoever comes out of the East will not be near the level of those two.
May 21st, 2012 at 8:44 PM
Slightly…West has a better offensive range. bass is limited to those short jumpers and dunks. He also doesnt play great defense most of the time. Back in New Orleans, David West could drop 25-30 on you a few times a year. Tonight is the best Bass has played in a while. Doc or KG must have got in his ear to play aggressive.
Celtics also missing Bradley on defense. Thats for sure..hope he is available for game 6
May 21st, 2012 at 8:44 PM
Barring injury, I completely agree.
May 21st, 2012 at 8:45 PM
True, since most of the reason I fell that way is because of injuries.

Fuckin Lavoy Allen. What a joke.
OK. Kind of what I was thinking. Dude is playing great bball tonight.

May 21st, 2012 at 8:51 PM
After PPV Raw tonight..click my name..or dont whatevs Go Philly
May 21st, 2012 at 8:54 PM
Nothing against Philly, but I’d love for the Celts to end this series in . I don’t see Philly hanging w/ MIA at all so let Boston prepare for the Heat.
May 21st, 2012 at 9:02 PM
Damn that game changed quick.
May 21st, 2012 at 9:03 PM
Rondo heating up..
May 21st, 2012 at 9:21 PM
Red Sox offense bailed out Buchholtz..no loss for him tonight…
May 21st, 2012 at 9:42 PM
Love Barkley, but he’s using different arguments that refute each other to prove different points. On one hand, it’s Kobe’s fault that the Lakers lost because of his 4th quarter. On the other hand, OKC won because of everything Westbrook did in the game before Durant “closed”. You can’t have it both ways, Charles. I love how we’re just ignoring Kobe’s 31 points on 10-18 shooting in the first 3 quarters.
May 21st, 2012 at 9:44 PM
Also, amazingly, Shaq is somehow coming into his own on Inside the NBA. He’s legitimately contributing to the discussions and fitting in a lot better in these playoffs.
May 21st, 2012 at 9:46 PM
It will be interesting to see if Kobe gets blown out in an elimination game again.
May 21st, 2012 at 9:56 PM
Sweet reverse layup by Bryant. They may lose, but he’s gonna get his.
May 21st, 2012 at 9:57 PM
Wasn’t Ramon Sessions supposed to be an upgrade?
May 21st, 2012 at 10:00 PM
Wasn’t Ramon Sessions supposed to be an upgrade?
“I’m sayin’.” Nice feed from Bryant, and Ramon missed the layup. Dang.
May 21st, 2012 at 10:02 PM
Does anyone else kind of miss The3rdMan?
May 21st, 2012 at 10:08 PM
Nope
May 21st, 2012 at 10:10 PM
That was a ridiculous lefty bank shot by Kobe.
May 21st, 2012 at 10:11 PM
Imagine if the Lakers had a guy that could hit wide open threes in the playoffs.
May 21st, 2012 at 10:12 PM
Oh..like Derek Fisher?
May 21st, 2012 at 10:14 PM
WINNER!
May 21st, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Why did Westbrook get a technical in the first? I had switched to a baseball game right before
May 21st, 2012 at 10:31 PM
AP- he was all over the refs for a perceived missed call. He jumped into some contact- I think it was one of those calls that could have gone either way depending on the ref’s mood, but he didn’t get that one. For some reason it infuriated him.
May 21st, 2012 at 10:33 PM
Westbrook drove to the basket in the 1st, didn’t get a foul call when he missed the layup (there was contact, but it didn’t hinder him) & stepped to a ref to complain. Got too close, but not close enough to get ejected.
May 21st, 2012 at 10:34 PM
(whoops. I defer to chicago on this one. Gotta refresh more often.)
May 21st, 2012 at 10:34 PM
got over 191 in this one. had boston m5.5 earlier. on a ridiculous roll the past three days. due for a correction, and i am betting timidly so not getting real rich
there was a story i read once about a guy who hit some ridiculous amount of consecutive winners in craps or roulette in vegas, but he was so timid with his bets that he really didn’t pocket a huge amount. i’m sure that happens a lot, this must have been unique in the number of consecutive wins
May 21st, 2012 at 10:36 PM
Why the fuck didn’t Bynum repost? This is the shit I’m talking about. A bunch of morons out there are saying “why did Kobe just chuck a 3?!?” Well, he didn’t. He wanted to repost Bynum, but instead Bynum came to set a screen with no time left on the SC.
May 21st, 2012 at 10:37 PM
SROD, that’s important too, though. I believe he did make contact with the ref.
May 21st, 2012 at 10:39 PM
Nice work, Vez. I took the under on this one. Also have LAL +7.5. I haven’t been doing too bad myself, although I did lose slightly on the Clippers-Spurs series. My individual game betting has been especially solid.
/loses for the rest of the playoffs
May 21st, 2012 at 10:40 PM
Would have been interesting if the ref had ejected Westbrook for making contact. Maybe it increases the Lakers’ chances of winning…and stirs up the conspiracy theorists.
May 21st, 2012 at 10:41 PM
Wow, it’s a complete fucking witch hunt against Ron Artest these days, huh? Dude was just trying to finish the bucket.
May 21st, 2012 at 10:44 PM
Dude was just trying to finish the bucket.
Ya gotta give him credit. He plays that way all the time, whether it’s NBA or a pickup game somewhere. Durant should know that.
May 21st, 2012 at 10:47 PM
Wow Kobe. Just playing unreal smart basketball right now.
May 21st, 2012 at 10:51 PM
these teams can fill it up in bursts huh?
May 21st, 2012 at 10:52 PM
The fucking refs are out of control. That is NOT a flagrant foul. He got almost all fucking ball.
May 21st, 2012 at 10:56 PM
Artest got screwed. But no, its never the refs fault…
/ david stern
May 21st, 2012 at 11:14 PM
Def not a flagrant on Artest, but man how dumb are the Lakers to get not one but TWO techs after that? Gave OKC two free points for no reason.
May 21st, 2012 at 11:19 PM
I would love to hear what Kobe said to deserve the tech. He and the ref were having a calm and seemingly reasonable conversation.
May 21st, 2012 at 11:30 PM
Ramon Sessions is seriously so horrible tonight. Incredible shot by Westbrook.
May 21st, 2012 at 11:51 PM

Signed a year lease to a new apartment last week, to go along with just double digits left in the bank account, “travel the world” doesn’t sound like the best idea.
