Targeted ads are great, I just don’t think they have the ROI required to justify billion-dollar valuations of social media companies.

i agree, but for every 100 people like you and me, there’s Tom Hicks out there willing to bid against themselves for a product they are over-valuing.

When i worked at Walmart, Id see people buying points cards for farmville like you would buy a prepaid phone card or an xbox live money card…ridiculous..

i’ve been doing work for a payments industry publication, and it’s amazing the innovation and start-ups around buying virtual things through social media games for unbanked folks (losers, teens)

my wife uses pinterest for vacation ideas and decorating ideas.. and already we see more traveling ads on non related websites b/c she’s pulling those travel ideas from travel based websites. I see benjamin moore paint ads on sports blogs because she visited decorating websites that had information shared with marketing agencies that work for benjamin moore.

I get all that, but do you ever click on those ads or purchasing paint/take a vacation because of what ads pop up in your browser windows? If you even see ads (Ad Blocker, FTW).
