Game Three Has the Makings of a Kobe Classic
The Lakers had game two in Oklahoma City sewn up, but then Kobe imploded, and the Thunder are up 2-0. Every media outlet on the planet has been hammering Kobe for his un-clutchness over the last 48 hours. He’s probably heard the “0-7″ stat enough times this week that it is committed to memory.
What are we thinking … something just short of the 81 he hung on the Raptors in 2006?

Guess: 11-28 for 32 points
May 18th, 2012 at 6:48 PM
Hmmm I agree with Eric.
Something around 35% shooting with 35 points.
May 18th, 2012 at 6:52 PM
Yeah Im sure he’ll go off for like 70 tonite.
May 18th, 2012 at 6:54 PM
…and a Lakers loss.
May 18th, 2012 at 6:55 PM
Only place I have ever heard that was on this site the other day after the game. He has probably committed it to memory though. I’ll say 34 on 32 shots and they lose.
May 18th, 2012 at 6:55 PM
Sure.
Kobe Over 55 points +320
Kobe Under 55 points -380
May 18th, 2012 at 6:57 PM
Brawny – in a win or loss?
May 18th, 2012 at 6:59 PM
He would need like 20+ FT for this to be even considered. OKC has Ibaka and Perkins protecting the paint, plus Thabo/Durant making him work for each basket.
I would need a +500 before I’d touch the over.
May 18th, 2012 at 7:00 PM
Kobe in the low 30s; balanced scoring from the bigs and good D; Lakers win by 6.
May 18th, 2012 at 7:01 PM
Don’t think he gets to 30 tonight
May 18th, 2012 at 7:02 PM
Who is reffing this game? I think a win, but they need to be +10 in FTA at least for it to happen.
May 18th, 2012 at 7:03 PM
Also, JMac wrote this so when Kobe has yet another bad shooting game, he can write a post after the game and talk about how Kobe failed to have a game like “some” people predicted, and link only to this post as proof of people predicting a huge Kobe scoring game.
May 18th, 2012 at 7:24 PM
I wonder if Daniel Bard realizes this Phillies lineup isnt that good. Cant find the strike zone in this first inning…. Stop taking the Dice-K approach
May 18th, 2012 at 7:26 PM
10? I’ll take the over.
May 18th, 2012 at 7:27 PM
He’s not, he just doesn’t have any control. He had a few outings last year like that, and this year just can’t find the zone, but has had good enough stuff to minimize damage.
May 18th, 2012 at 7:31 PM
Also, its bullshit that in interleague a team has to go to the same park back to back years. Why the fuck do the red sox have to go to Philly again this year? It should rotate….
Hey Bobby, pull the kid out. He obviously doesn’t have what it takes to be an effective starter.
May 18th, 2012 at 7:32 PM
If you’re a pitcher and you’re worried about Carlos ruiz at second base, go fuck yourself
May 18th, 2012 at 7:35 PM
Have him put his money where his mouth is. Maybe he’ll actually pay up on the bet, if you beat him.
May 18th, 2012 at 7:36 PM
I’d play half the Red Sox away games in Minnesota and Chicago if I could…

8PM needs to hurry up so I can switch from this game to the NBA game
May 18th, 2012 at 7:40 PM
I already turned off AtBat radio broadcast. I can handle it usually, but I’m at work doing a bunch of things, and throwing shit is only gonna make my night longer.
May 18th, 2012 at 7:43 PM
Which BTW the bet was that Buffalo would take Barron if available, and JMac basically said they were going offense or some stupid shit, and I called him on it. Barron was gone and they took a CB, which if you look at his 2013 Mock Draft, are the same things as a safety (Mathieu).

Phillies have been averaging over 5 runs a game the last week.
They are hot right now.
May 18th, 2012 at 7:46 PM
Theyve scored 5.2 runs a game over their last 11.
May 18th, 2012 at 7:58 PM
Toronto is the best third place team in the majors. Damn, they are fun to watch. Dong slapping the mets so far
May 18th, 2012 at 8:21 PM
Interleague play sucks.
May 18th, 2012 at 8:24 PM
The fuck is a double nickel? Are you inventing gambling terms again?
May 18th, 2012 at 8:34 PM
Double nickel is usually slang for “55″
May 18th, 2012 at 8:39 PM
slang where? Arby’s? It means 10 racks.
May 18th, 2012 at 8:49 PM
Interleague play sucks
May 18th, 2012 at 8:49 PM
Quote Failage.
May 18th, 2012 at 8:54 PM
Is Adrian Gonzalez the highest paid player with the worst plate discipline? Managed to turn a 3-0 count to a steike out on a check swing
May 18th, 2012 at 8:56 PM
Justin Verlander IS PITCHING A NO HITTER THROUGH 7.
May 18th, 2012 at 9:03 PM
Way to jinx that shit Vlad.
May 18th, 2012 at 9:07 PM
No hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter. FUCK that guy.
/team WINdians
Also, the fuck is a double nickel? Woudln’t that be ten points? Nice try, you almost had something there big guy.
May 18th, 2012 at 9:09 PM
FILTHY!
May 18th, 2012 at 9:12 PM
Verlander is nasty….unlike the red sox pitching which is sometimes stank nasty like an unwashed vagina
May 18th, 2012 at 9:13 PM
LOL awesome.
May 18th, 2012 at 9:14 PM
Minutemen fans know what a double nickel is
Also…adrian use to be such a professional hitter. Wtf happened?
May 18th, 2012 at 9:15 PM

May 18th, 2012 at 9:16 PM
I get that MJ had a “double knickel”, but i really dont see how such an obscure, little used term like that has any relevance here.
May 18th, 2012 at 9:18 PM
Joe Smith’s a fucking moron.
May 18th, 2012 at 9:21 PM
Just a way to say 55 man. Wanna go?
/i don’t
//maybe ap does
May 18th, 2012 at 9:21 PM
looks like we need some late game magic, yet again. Smith is a liability of the highest order. Can we please dump these sidearm guys for a change?
May 18th, 2012 at 9:23 PM
Why? He’s a very good reliever.
May 18th, 2012 at 9:23 PM
God Ron Roenicke is so fucking dumb sometimes.
Also, Rickie Weeks is the worst everyday player in baseball right now.
May 18th, 2012 at 9:25 PM
Way to go Philly.
You scored 31 points at home in one half, awesome.
May 18th, 2012 at 9:26 PM
MLB Network right now!
May 18th, 2012 at 9:27 PM
Okay, so I have the ole’ Friday night bourbon drink overreaction, but still
May 18th, 2012 at 9:30 PM

May 18th, 2012 at 9:31 PM
Adrian gonzalez hit a homerun. Stop the presses! Oh and verlander no-no broke up by Josh Harrison.

Blanton’s
Either that or Pappy Van Winkle, Lot B. thats about all you’ll find around my house, with the exception of the occasional 15 or 20 year when the opportunity to get it presents itself
May 18th, 2012 at 9:38 PM
Bourbon baller
May 18th, 2012 at 9:41 PM
Well i don’t drink it every night, and I usually go rocks, neat, or cut with a little water or pellegrino, so it’s not flying off the shelf. Now when it’s time to get liquor drunk at a tailgate i’ll go with something in a lower price point if I am mixing drinks all day. I mean why use the good stuff after a few drinks, right?
May 18th, 2012 at 9:41 PM
Miami Heat fans are so pathetic. They continue to give D-Wade a free pass despite his petulant behavior as of late just because he won a title. Such starfuckers..
May 18th, 2012 at 9:42 PM
Some..not all…
Maybe its because I’ve lived in Massachusetts and New York where nobody gets a free pass even if they win many titles
May 18th, 2012 at 9:44 PM
Stupid Indians….. Oh well. Better win tomorrow.
May 18th, 2012 at 9:51 PM
Celtics! Sixers! The Eastern Conference Playoffs!!!!
May 18th, 2012 at 9:53 PM
heel, i’m working on Old Pogue for my small batch. i’m a rocks guy myself
May 18th, 2012 at 9:57 PM
These mlb umps are pathetic. Blew a call at first base, then tossed Bobby V who had a valid argument. Ump then starts cursing out Bobby V as BV keeps saying that Wiggington was off the base. That fucker should be suspended just like Davidson. He started yelling and being a dick at Bobby before the skipper even got all the way out to first base. What a fucking joke
May 18th, 2012 at 9:58 PM
reminds me of fans of a certain team that included Derrick Coleman and Stevie Thompson
/minus the title
May 18th, 2012 at 10:00 PM
has been much more exciting than anything the Western Conference has put out in the Semis. But hey, keep running with it.
May 18th, 2012 at 10:02 PM
Im a cuse fan darrell, but the DC/Thompson teams were before my time. I was only 5 and 6. I don’t doubt there are some older Cuse fans who acted like that.
May 18th, 2012 at 10:04 PM
Also, gary Darling was the ump who tossed Bobby V. If Darling would have just stood there and not cussed out Bobby, maybe his gum wouldnt have spit out and hit Bobby. If an ump or players gum came out of their mouth and hit an ump, even accidentally, they would be suspended. Gary darling, joe west, and bob davidson – three instigating umps who should be fired
May 18th, 2012 at 10:19 PM
SM – Old Pogue is a fine choice. Don’t see that much in my neck of the woods (NC). We have to order obscure/hard to find stuff by the case in order to get it. Or you pick it up out of state. NC liquor laws suck a big bag of dicks.
May 18th, 2012 at 10:31 PM
Man, this game is ugly. But thats Been boston all season. One game they blow you out, next game is a nailbiter
May 18th, 2012 at 10:45 PM
Major props to Philly. They manned up after being down almost 20 points. Iggy and Thaddeus Young along with a couple Lou Williams buckets saved this game for Philly. Boston definitely needs these next two scheduled days off to rest.
May 18th, 2012 at 10:49 PM
Who is the loud mouthed woman in Philly sitting by the mic?
May 18th, 2012 at 11:50 PM
Is MJ’s playoff record 63 points in danger? Kobe gonna top 90 tonight?
May 19th, 2012 at 1:34 AM
Lakers shot 43 free throws…43.
May 19th, 2012 at 1:41 AM
Thunder shot 28 free throws… 28.
/is that how this works?
May 19th, 2012 at 1:49 AM
15 more free throws? Are the Thunder that more physical? Durant got hacked with 41sec left up one, no foul. kobe gets hacked on next play, two free throws.
Kobe Classic? Please! More like Zebra classic!!!
May 19th, 2012 at 1:53 AM
Good win for the Lakers. Phantom calls were going both directions, imo.
Anyone who thinks that inequality in free throws always equals ref bias is an idiot. Period.
May 19th, 2012 at 1:54 AM
People who didn’t watch the game won’t know this, but the FT count (that I’m already seen being harped on) was OKC 28, LAL 32 with 2:41 left in the game.
Kobe was very aggressive in going to the bucket and trying to draw fouls with pump fakes, while the Thunder took 6 jumpers and 2 layups in the same time. Durant also had a failed flop attempt when he was stripped of an offensive rebound.
/not directed at you personally, pigskin. I saw a few Whitlock tweets that were annoying and had to write some shit down.
May 19th, 2012 at 1:58 AM
I’m just going to note that the Thunder didn’t have the ball with 41 seconds left.
May 19th, 2012 at 2:39 AM
Way too many free throws. Joey Crawford needs to go away. 70 fucking free throws is ridiculous. Nice win by the Lakers, though I can’t imagine a team losing while shooting 42 free throws. Let’s see if they have anything for tomorrow. I hope this goes 7 so the Spurs are rested for another series.
May 19th, 2012 at 8:17 AM
Generally, unless a team is willfully trying to foul there should not be a marked increase in free thows at the end of a game. That’s when refs allow players to decide the game.
That strip on Durant was a foul in my oppinion.
Anyway. 42 free throws and only won by three in a desperation game at home, Lakers should be done.
