Tiger Woods is Forbes’ Most Powerful Celebrity Athlete, Tim Tebow Not in Top 100
Forbes published its Celebrity 100 list, using some bizarre quantified metric to determine who is most powerful. There were some people who handle balls for a living. Only two of them were Kardashians (bah-zing!).
Tiger Woods is the top-rated athlete (No. 12 overall) for the 11th straight year. He did this despite being nowhere near dominant at golf, losing some sponsorship deals and pulling in a measly $58 million last year. The next two were NBA stars LeBron James (15) and Kobe Bryant (27).
NFL: Manning (40), Brady (60) – No Tebow. I repeat, no Tebow. This is probably unfair as this poll takes no account of First Take segments or Christian zeal.
Tennis: Federer (31), Nadal (47), Sharapova (71), S. Williams (77), Li Na (87) – (Yawn)
Soccer: Beckham (32), C. Ronaldo (44), Messi (50) – Fair. Ronaldo goes first name only on twitter. When you have 9.7 million followers (most of any athlete), I guess you can get away with that.
Boxing: Pacquiao (33), Mayweather (52) – Just fight already.
Golf: Mickelson (48) He’s “enlisted to design multiple golf courses in China.” Sounds like a pretty sweet racket.
MLB: A-Rod (63) – No Derek Jeter. Apparently, pull among males aged 35-50 in the NYC tri-state area was not a consideration.

When you’re a recovering sex addict, how do you wean yourself back into getting ass? What’s considered a relapse?

Was that yawn for tennis in general or for Li Na? My better half played (and won) a local tournament with Li Na when she was about 16. Had no idea she would reach the heights she’s reached. But yes, she is boring.

Holy fuck. An acre is ~75% of a football field, so you’re mowing 1-1.5 football fields with a fucking push mower? You’re insane.
Those Mexico photo essays are fucking scary.
Also, apparently one of JMac’s problems (read some of the comments last night – it’s in the Amare Going to College post) is the commentariat not staying on point. I would be interested in ‘on point’ for this post. Moving people up and down, bringing up exclusions?

I see them hovering around mine everyday but so far they’re just eating the grass all around. I’ve even got leaf lettuce and spinach close to full maturity and they’re leaving those alone. Several tennis ball size tomatoes are still green – if they or the chipmunks touch those, I’ll pull out the firearms.

My wife has put a bounty on the squirrels that are knocking the seed out of the bird feeder. Pretty sure for each one I kill, I get a bj or something.
We have a fairly big lot, but it’s all hill/woods/unusable, so I have about half an acre to push mow, which is okay. It’s string trimming the edges that is a bitch, because the previous owner put in a ton of ornate (and unnecessary) beds and stones and crap.

It’s pretty democratic. Twitter is our generation’s newspaper. When I wake up in the morning I take my shower, brew my coffee and then open up Twitter on my walk to work.
Lots of misconceptions about Twitter. It is what you make it. Your timeline is constructed by you. You can follow and unfollow feeds at your leisure. It is, without a doubt, the fastest way to get information. And it’s completely customizable.

I’ve been meaning to find you and see what you think about Lowrie. I miss having him around. The book was pretty clear on him, IMO. He’s a professional hitter who will hit .285/.360 OBP, make good contact, and have good at bats, and provide a little bit of pop (he seemed to have a knack for getting runners in or advancing them when he was in Boston, even if you all hate RBI). Can play any position in the infield (albeit not always flawlessly), but can’t stay healthy, which takes away from his value. He’ll make a great utility infielder/PH, where he isn’t counted on to play every day.

May 17th, 2012 at 3:43 PM
Are you implying that Twitter is imperative to life?
May 17th, 2012 at 3:44 PM
I like Twitter, but I really limit how many I follow, and use it mostly as an RSS-type feed, to interact with all you, or to follow RedSox games I can’t watch. Guys like Prisco and Pete Abraham that troll or engage too much just aren’t worth my time.
I just have to be careful not to get into ‘editor’ mode, like I did with Joe Lemire (whom I actually like) with his column the other day. It’s very easy to be really critical, and provide instant feedback to people who don’t really care whether you liked what they wrote.
May 17th, 2012 at 3:44 PM
Stay healthy. He’s been fine since he started playing this year. Gets a day off every 10 days it seems. He might be the Astros best hitter right now if it wasn’t for Jose Altuve… who is on his way back to Earth.

I haven only been catching about 2 Astros games a week right now, and only parts of those games. I’m still spending most of my spare time working on my graduate thesis–only 20 pages to go!–though I am going to see Robert Earl Keen at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth tomorrow.
As for Lowrie, he’s definitely an upgrade from Tommy Manzella and Clint Barmes. I like his potential. I’m liking the youth on this Astros team and it will only get younger after this season when Lee departs and by which time we will probably have gotten rid of Brett Myers.
