Raiders Linebacker Rolando McClain Found Guilty of Assault, Sentence Could Cost Him 2012 Season
Oakland Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2010 Draft out of Alabama, has been found guilty of “assault, reckless endangerment, menacing and wrongful discharge of a firearm” in Alabama. The 180-day sentence, scheduled to start June 1, could force him to miss the entire 2012 season.
McClain was arrested in December, after a shooting incident when he had returned to Alabama for his grandfather’s funeral.
From the Huntsville Times:
Police said the victim told them that McClain, now a linebacker with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders, put a pistol to his head while he was lying on the ground, and fired a shot next to his ear after he begged McClain not to shoot him.

How shitty is his lawyer? Guys never get actual jail time for this kind of shit, unless it’s a state with automatic sentences like New York (which personally, I love). I’m shocked Alabama is anywhere near as progressive, and that he actually was convicted.

The idiot put a gun to someone’s head and fired. He shouldn’t get jail time?

Depends on the circumstances that led up to shot being fired. A decent lawyer could have gotten him 2-3 months (with a lengthy probation), depending on the circumstances.
There’s a good chance he could miss two NFL seasons. The one he misses with the sentence, and the the one the commissioner might take from him too.

Read that his lawyer is pushing for a jury trial, which would essentially re-start everything from scratch.
