Chris Bosh’s Absence is a Problem, But Let’s Briefly Discuss the Mario Chalmers Miss
A few quick thoughts on Indiana 78, Miami 75.
* Strange to see a team win a game on the road with 17 turnovers and 10 assists.
* LeBron scored 28 points, Wade scored 24 points, and then nobody had more than five. Batman and Robin scored 52 of 75 points (69 percent). They need help.
* The Heat scored 37 points in the second half. LeBron and Wade scored 31 of them.
Now, let’s get to the Mario Chalmers shot. Anyone else surprised that Spoelstra drew up a game-tying 3-point attempt for a guy who was 2-of-9 from the field, and 0-3 from deep? On the season, Chalmers was Miami’s 3rd best 3-point shooter (38 percent), behind Miller and Jones, but narrowly ahead of LeBron (36 percent) and considerably ahead of Wade (26 percent). If you want to play the percentages, Chalmers was on a cold streak – 0-1 from deep in game one, and 2-8 in the final two games of the New York series. So in the huddle, Spoelstra drew up a 3-pointer for a guy who had missed 10 of his last 12 three-pointers.
Got it. (The other side: LeBron is 0-7 from deep against Indiana; Wade hasn’t made a 3-pointer since May 3.)
As for the actual play … looks like it was a double screen for Chalmers, who would have been open if Collison left him to double LeBron. But Collison didn’t, and came flying at Chalmers. This caused Chalmers to catch, pump, dribble, and take a much tougher shot than anticipated. You can tell he isn’t square on the shot. Then he kicks his leg out to try to draw the foul (and falls down in the process, perhaps trying to sell it). In addition, Paul George (6-foot-8) came flying at Chalmers. To see the shot, fast-forward to 2:12 here:
The kicker is that Chalmers had about :04 left when he released the shot, and frankly, it was so challenged, I would have rather had LeBron jack one up. If you’re not getting a clean Paxson/Kerr type look (see below), I prefer to go down with my big guns swinging. So give me LeBron taking a bad shot over that Chalmers attempt.
This Chalmers shot was not in any way similar to John Paxson’s game-winning triple against the Suns in the 1993 NBA Finals (1:30). Paxson was wide open. Easy catch and shoot.
The Chalmers attempt also wasn’t anything like Steve Kerr’s game-winning shot in game six of the 1997 NBA Finals (:31). Jordan drew multiple defenders and Kerr was standing all alone. Again – catch and shoot. Perfectly squared up.
So on we go to Indiana. Game three is Thursday.
Love the all business attitude from David West at the end, imploring his teammates to get off the floor, no celebrating.

This is more of a knock on the Heat organization as it is LeBron and DWade, but you know it’s got to be difficult to win against anybody in the League, minus the Bobcats, with your bigs consisting of Turiaf, Haslem, Anthony, and Juwan Howard who I don’t think even played last night.
With that said though, LeBron and Wade are head and shoulders better than anybody on the entire roster of the Pacers and still probably should have won the game.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
Without Bosh in the lineup, LeBron’s supporting cast is worse than it was in Cleveland. By a lot. Still think Miami wins this series, but it could go 7.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Lakers lost the other night, now the Heat have lost. All is well with the world.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Holy overreaction Batman! 2nd round, Game 2 against the Pacers, whooooooooooa.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
SA-OKC looks like the de facto finals right now.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
That is amazing.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
I dont knock them for letting Chalmers take that shot because its pretty apparent that Lebron refuses to take a shot in the last few minutes of a close ballgame. It wasnt a terrible shot.
The Heat played horribly without Bosh and still almost pulled it out… with that being said, no Bosh, I’m still putting in a small amount for the Pacers to make it to the finals.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Can you imagine the backlash if somehow Miami doesn’t make the Finals? Their coach would surely be done. The East is pure trash save for a few teams, and one of those teams lost their star player in the first game of the playoffs. Miami will have to beat crappy NY, okay IND and an aging BOS team (or the 8th seeded 76ers) to reach the finals. That has to be one of the weakest “gauntlets” in recent memory, right?
May 16th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
surely batbron can find a better robin…
/god damnit lebron, couldn’t you have at least picked a superstar that compliments your game if you were gonna leave?
May 16th, 2012 at 10:14 AM
Bosh would be back by then for sure, right?
May 16th, 2012 at 10:14 AM
i really can’t, to be honest…who would they blame? lebron?
May 16th, 2012 at 10:15 AM
I don’t get this at all. Why? Just because he is your best player, he has to take the last shot? If the Bulls are down 3, I’m pretty sure Rose isn’t running off doubles to get a 3. If the Magic are down 3, I doubt Dwight will be coming off a pin down to tie the game. And, with 8 seconds left, down 3, with a dead ball situation, that’s actually a pretty damn good look.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:15 AM
I find most of the conversation ripping Lebron to just be insane. First, Lebron is not a great shooter, he is a streaky shooter. If I’m playing with a guy and he is a streaky shooter and he is on a bad streak (which Lebron is from outside right now) then I want him to recognize that he doesn’t need to jack it up every time. Lebron is obviously very self aware. He is by far the best player in the world but he is not even close to being the best shooter. On the other hand Kobe is a GREAT shooter so they are apples and oranges. The problem with the Heat is Wade hasn’t been himself this entire year. He has become a terrible shooter but he isn’t self aware apparently. He just keeps jacking. If I’m the Heat I unload Wade this off-season for a couple of talented other pieces.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:15 AM
Yes, because he missed. Steve Kerr took some last second shots and missed too.
Just a sloppy, defensive playoff fight. Game 2, move on.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:15 AM
Collison played some solid D on that final play. He fought through that LeBron screen to stick with Chalmers.
Spoelstra has two of the best players on the planet. Draw up plays for them. Agree with you, TBL.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
TBL gets irked over the oddest things.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Also, that fucker Wade should have been hit with a flagrant 2 last night. I hate him so much more than I do LeBron.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Definitely prefer to have LeBron with the ball there.
Were people really bringing up the Paxson and Kerr shots as comps to that Chalmers shot? Or is that just you fighting a straw man again? Because that comparison is one of the more idiotic things I have heard in my lifetime.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
It would be so amazing. One of the Big 3 would be dealt.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
i really can’t, to be honest…who would they blame? lebron?
hopefully pat riley and spoelstra. i hate those guys.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
Let’s play what if here:
If Collison doubles LeBron, is it a good play call to get Chalmers open? A: Yes
Was it great adjustment by Indiana to not double LeBron? A: Yes, emphatically
Was it stupid to not have Skinny Girl Miller in the game as a potential shooter? A: Hell, yes
Once the play broke down (when Chalmers wasn’t open off the 2x screen), Chalmers had 2 choices:
1. Pass
2. Pump it, and shoot it.
With option 1, because there was no double on LBJ, there wasn’t an obvious choice to give the ball up to, especially for 4 seconds left.
With option 2, at least Chalmers, who expected to be shooting the ball, got a solid shot off. Not contested, but not a catch and shoot either.
In my mind, it comes down to this:
Great defensive adjustment by Indiana, who must have suspected that the shot was going to come from someone other than LBJ or Wade, based on their defensive set.
Poor job by Spoelstra by not getting Miller in the game.
And, finally: There is too much emphasis on this final shot. Miami looks terrible without Bosh. LBJ in Cleveland had a better team (when Bosh not playing) than Miami did last night. Teams can’t win with their 3rd leading scorer getting 5 points.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
Also, Bosh has gotten a ton of hate over the past one and a half years as the soft bitch on the team, but it was apparent last night just how important he is to them.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
Lebron is a pretty damn great shooter.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
Can’t the Eastern teams play after 10:30 instead of the West so we can actually watch some quality basketball on a normal hour?
May 16th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
Chalmers can make that shot. The Heat had a bad third quarter, made a furious run in the 4th with 2 players scoring and ran out of gas in the end. This should put an end to the downplaying of the loss of Bosh.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
But, you did redeem yourself with this gem of an argument:
May 16th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
Wally’s World gets a free pass on anything for the day. That’s solid analysis right there.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:20 AM
Not having Bosh hurts, just because minus Wade/Lebron the rest of that team is so inept on offense, but they looked like garbage with him in the lineup in Game 1 also. This just isn’t a very good basketball team on offense. They win by playing very good defense, getting easy baskets in transition, and shooting a ton of free throws since the NBA consistently makes all of these awful calls when Lebron and Wade just run into the lane and scream with their arms in the air. It’s not basketball, and it’s painful to watch for 4 quarters. And I’m a Heat fan.
And Wade’s crybaby reaction to not getting a foul call with that flagrant makes it really hard to cheer for him and this team. I’ve been a Heat fan since the days of Seikaly, but man, I’m getting tired of watching this garbage.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Exactly. The most tried and true method of proving end-of-game fatigue? Missed free throws. See: LeBron.
This series could definitely go 7 without The Boshtrich.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
I loved how Wade stood around bitching to the refs while the Pacers went down to court and scored before that flagrant. Wade is such a dick.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Lebron is a pretty damn great shooter
From 15 feet and in yes he is. Outside 15 feet he is totally streaky. He either hits them all or none and if none early he stops shooting and does other things which I love.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Yup. Nicely done.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Holy overreaction Batman.
Count me in the crowd just happy to see LeBron lose.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
And please cut it with the W(b)estern Conference blowjobs on here. I watched 2 game 1′s the past 2 nights, and they were hardly enthralling. Also, the Heat get caught up too much in not getting perceived deserved calls. Unfortunately for them, this is being called differently than the Knicks series.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
It’s pretty incredible that Wade has forced me to hate him so much that I actually think I like LeBron now. And I’ve hated LeBron pretty much since he came into the league.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
Who is making these Chalmers/Paxson/Kerr comparisons? At best it’s lazy, at worst it’s fucking retarded.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
Wade much dirtier than KG. not even a contest
May 16th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
If LeBron pulled half the shit Wade does people would destroy him. Laying on the ground whining, slowly jogging back on defense, pulling petulant stuff like this.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
No he isn’t. Shut up.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
They would have been better losing Wade than Bosh. This may sound ridiculous, but if Miami can pull off a Wade-Joe Johnson swap with Atlanta it might benefit both teams. Johnson is a better shooter and might do better as a 2nd option. Wade would make Atlanta dangerous in the East.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
I agree. It’s something that has really come on the last few years for Wade. He didn’t used to do it, and now he has this really privileged, entitled air to him that really drives me up a wall. Play basketball and shut your fucking mouth.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
And the celtics lost. Now if only the Spurs would lose.
Agreed.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:27 AM
No they wouldn’t. Miami is good because Wade and Lebron are such great defenders. They’re also two of the best transition players in the league. Johnson excels at neither one of those.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:27 AM
he didn’t used to do it, and now he has this really privileged, entitled air to him that really drives me up a wall.
thats because bosh and lbj came to HIS team to play in HIS house.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:27 AM
Aren’t we destroying Wade, though? He’s a giant fuckhead. I wish he would just fucking play basketball.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:27 AM
I have never thought the Heat were going to win it this year. In my opinion, they haven’t played as well this year as last year especially offensively. Wade has digressed.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:27 AM
I’ve never had a real problem with Lebron, except for The Decision, but at least he didn’t give his wife herpes.
/allegedly
May 16th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
Last night on twitter, in reponse to people saying that Chalmers was their best 3 point shooter TBL basically said there is no correlation between “regular” 3 point attempts and last second 3 point attempts. People brought up Kerr, Paxson, and Horry (or, as TBL called him, “Big Game Bob”). So, I’m guessing that’s how they got drug into this discussion.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
You can probably remove “save for a few teams.” Is it possible this is the worst the East has been in the last 5 years?
I think what should be getting more attention is Wade blowing a pretty easy layup that would have tied the game on the possession before.
I see what you’re getting at here, and generally agree, but in this case, Lebron isn’t Shaq or D-Ho shooting a three – he’s marginally worse than Chalmers. The Chalmers shot wasn’t bad, but it’s also not like we’re talking about a three-point assassin here. If I’m anyone in the Heat organization, I either want Lebron taking that shot, or at least creating an open attempt for a teammate.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
Ctrl + F hasn’t found “LeBron choked” in this thread yet.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
I still say Spoelstra’s an idiot for not putting the ball in LeBron’s hands, and LeBron is kinda weak shit for not demanding it. Best player/playmaker in the game? Set screen and stand in corner.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
If Miami gets a real coach and gets rid of Wade, this team will be unstoppable.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
That game was horrendous to watch. Loved seeing Pacers basically take it away.
Also, can someone sum up Roundup? Lotta comments
May 16th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
If Miami gets a real coach and gets rid of Wade, this team will be unstoppable.
still need a center…
May 16th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
This situation couldn’t have worked out any better for Wade. Have LeBron come to town and take all the criticism no matter what. Wade misses a wide open layup and all anybody can talk about is how it wasn’t LeBron shooting that layup or having the ball on the last possession. Wade commits a Jason Smith on Blake Griffin type foul but nobody is really talking about that. Why? Cause it’s all LeBron’s fault.
Even though LBJ should have never come out and publicly said it, but when you run out of milk guess whose fault it is? Yup. It’s LeBron’s.
/Not a fan of either player
//Would love to see the Pacers win the series
May 16th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
“TBL still has bad taste in movies.”
May 16th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
I dont care how it happens, i just want lebron out of the finals. Dont care much for wade either.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
Ringzzzzzz (singular) yo
Sure, I couldnt get out of the first round for like 5 years before LeBron showed up, but rinnnggggzzzz.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
I can see that argument. But, he was the last one setting the screen and Spo mentioned the next option was him drifting out if his man hedged the screen.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
Clutchness. Clutchivity. Clutchitude.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
“TBL still has bad taste in movies.”
Shocked.
/couldn’t be less shocked
May 16th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Drinkability.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
In Miami, nothing is ever Wade’s fault. The fans down there give him a pass because he won a title. Its pathetic
May 16th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
This right here. As someone mentioned, the Heat would be better off with a Wade injury than a Bosh one. Their inside rotation is now worse than any remaining playoff team, easily.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Maybe its not really the coach. Maybe that says something about Spo’s confidence in LeBron down the stretch or says something about LeBron that he won’t say give me the damn ball and get out of the way regardless of what Coach says. We’re either winning or losing on my shoulders. Not having that attitude is why people crush him. Instead he can use the play call as a ‘cop out’ for why he didn’t take the last shot. If LeBron was really upset with his coaching situation, I’m pretty sure we’d be hearing about it this morning. If Mike Brown doesn’t draw up a play for Kobe, we’d never hear about it though because Kobe ain’t letting that happen.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Get Juwan Howard in the game. That should solve all of their problems.
/maybe not
May 16th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
yes, Scalia, that is correct. Others brought Paxson/Kerr into it last night (i believe Brawny Tom?) … I was just shooting that down.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
LeBron is just held to a different standard than everyone else. How many other athletes have been/would be criticized for taking less money to win a championship? How many other athletes would be killed for setting a screen instead of taking the final shot?
May 16th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
I would say that Spo probablay thought that since Wade sucks at 3′s, having him involved in any screen would just allow his man to double/hedge the guy coming off the screen. Having LeBron set it forced his defender to stick to the screener allowing Chalmers to have a decent look. So, at least with Wade out front, his man can be semi-occupied and not allowed to double any shooters.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
who is the batman?
May 16th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
Now that Calipari has won a title, is he still a choker?
May 16th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
Plus Chalmers doesn’t have a history of hitting huge shots from long distance or anything.
(btw I love Chokey McChoke Rose bricking the free throw that cost Memphis the title that would have been vacated anyway because Rose is a cheating sack of shit who gets a free pass from the media)
May 16th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
LeBron had it pretty good in Cleveland. Those teams had depth, grit and they would’ve surely gotten him another very very good player to play with.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
That’s ridiculous. Havent they learned you can only compare white players to other white players?
May 16th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
I had no idea this happened. A quick scan of the box score shows me that the Heat missed 9 of 29 foul shots. The Pacers missed 8 of 27. There’s your game right there.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Called out. If he werent a Steeler man I’d vote for banning.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Who?
May 16th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Yeah, how it was drawn up wasn’t conducive to Lebron making any type of play, save a deep heave. Spo should have tried to draw up something different, IMO. I mean, we have seen Lebron nail big threes in the playoffs (Celtics and Bulls last year). I’d rather see him try to do something than run Chalmers off a double.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
Lebron is not a great shooter but I’ve seen him come out of cold streaks and bury some highly contested shot during his time in CLE many times. I’d have let him chuck it.
It seems that now in MIA he doesn’t have to do it, it’s gotten easier for him to not take those shots, so that heroic trait he did possess is ebbing.
Be interesting to see this series shake out.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
May 16th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
Lebron would kill to have a center like Varejao on this Heat team
May 16th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
This seems like forever ago, doesn’t it? What the hell happened?
May 16th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
Why are comparisons being drawn to two (uncontested) shots that won two different NBA Finals series? Chalmers appears to have missed a (contested) shot that lost Game 2 of a NBA conference semi-finals series.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
choker status will return when title is vacated.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
Why discuss Chalmers instead of all those missed FTs?
May 16th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
FUCK NASCAR and it’s expanding shitty ad!

Rihanna is bad at battleship because of he enormous shiny fivehead.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
That’s a good point. He was absolutely insane in those 2 series last year. It was unbelievable. I don’t know how that didn’t dispell all the “clutch” bullshit myth.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:44 AM

The best TMNT debate continues
May 16th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
Awesome. Kenny best not fuck this up.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
And they shot %34 percent from the field and were 1-16 from 3 point range. They just aren’t a good offensive team.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
It was the offensive play before when down two that was a shitshow for Miami. The lane was momentarily open for LeBron before Wade clogged it and called for the ball (only to chuck it off the bottom of the rim).
May 16th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
Again, I don’t think this is a knock on Spo. I think it says something about his confidence in LeBron. Phil never drew shit up for Ron Harper or Derek Fisher because he had supreme confidence in Mike and Kobe.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
So we can get posts out of tweets now? You people that aren’t blocked need to start throwing shit up against the wall to see what becomes a post.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
This is true, but Bron was just standing waiting for something to happen. I give Wade credit for stepping in. That said, I mock him for shooting a layup like my 1st grade self.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Because the game doesn’t matter during the first 47:50 minutes.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Pat Riley deserves criticism for some shaky personnel decisions, especially with the big men.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
Weren’t they playing from the lead most of the time during those series? I know he hit some big buckets but IIRC, those shots were dropping when they were either still ahead or tied.
I think LeBron is like Tiger used to be. No greater front runner.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
LeBron is just held to a different standard than everyone else. How many other athletes have been/would be criticized for taking less money to win a championship?
the “less money” was made up with the lack of income tax. so stop with that bullshit.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
When Skip Bayless is the loudest voice, all the rational people get shouted down
May 16th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
Every great player is held to the standard of demanding the ball at the end of the game. How many athletes of that stature have you ever seen be so willing to not be involved in the last play so conistently? Scottie Pippen was so pissed with the Kucoc play, he didn’t even go back into the game.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
Encouraging, if there’s not a work stoppage.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Rihanna is bad at battleship because of he enormous shiny fivehead.
i thought battleship was about battleships. now it looks like one of those alien/predator hybrids that involves planet of the, nevermind.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Sigh.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Vogel’s a good coach from what I’ve seen. Carlisle proved the Heat can easily be out X and O’d
May 16th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
I agree, but with all that money tied up in James, Wade, and Bosh, who else was out there that he could have signed? Never in a million years does this happen, but Miami just needs to send Wade and Bosh to Orlando for Dwight. Not sure how the salaries would work out, but I think this makes both teams much better than the way they are currently constructed.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Here’s some douchiness from a pissed off Wade.

And the NASCAR ad on the bottom that starts playing if you accidentally put your mouse over it.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
Matty, again it is still Rileys fault that he tied up so much money into three players. No sympathy for him being foolish with money which ends up with him being unable to properly build a team for the playoffs.
/at least he’s not the Hawks with Joe Johnson’s contract
May 16th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
Right, and didnt he get killed for it?

agreed, to it gets better when you click the x in the upper right
May 16th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
Concur. But at least the Hawks only have one player with a max deal as opposed to 3.
/Bright side?
May 16th, 2012 at 10:58 AM
Without even bringing up the “not 1, not 2, not 3, etc” celebration, I can distinctly remember how much the Heat celebrated after beating the Bulls in the ECF last year. I remember going from “wow the Heat can’t be beaten” to “why are they celebrating like they won a title… wow, maybe the Heat can be beaten”.
/Fuck Wade
May 16th, 2012 at 10:58 AM
Riley has a championship contender that made it to the Finals last year. seems proper to me.
May 16th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
Michael Bay sucks
TMNT are not awesome but Michael Bay sucks
Round up photo chick has a nice ass
The best TMNT debate continues

Spurs and Mobb Deep. Classic.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
I mentioned last night how much I love watching them play the game. I don’t get why people say otherwise.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Funny this guy is still in the league. I had no idea.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
There are going to be about 4 more major momentum swings this series
Paceers win game 3 – Heat are finished
Heat win game 4 – The Heat are off the mat.
Heat win game 5 – They’ve found their stride without Bosh
Pacers win game 6 – Pacers exploiting Heat up front
Game 7 with tons of questionable calls – the refs suck.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
It was the offensive play before when down two that was a shitshow for Miami. The lane was momentarily open for LeBron before Wade clogged it and called for the ball (only to chuck it off the bottom of the rim).
/That
May 16th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Oh yeah, because that was the extreme on the other end of the measuring line. I’m just saying if I have to choose between either extreme, I want the guy who wants to take the shot as opposed to the guy who is willing to set screens and hide in the corner
May 16th, 2012 at 11:02 AM
It sounds simplistic, but when you put all over your resources into 3 players, and one of them goes down, you’re going to have problems. When your 3rd leading minutes guy is Joel Anthony and your #3 scorer has 5 points, you’re probably going to lose.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Riley could be called out for the Spo hiring and extension, and maybe the Miler dieal. The Bosh injury is the worst thing that could have happened.
The signings of Wade & LBJ at whatever cost were divine moves.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
The Heat don’t need to change anything. They have the personnel. They need to play better half court offense, but that will never happen as long as the NBA continues to allow it’s refereeing to dictate games. And I don’t blame the Heat. As long as they can drive into the lane every possession, run into someone, and throw the ball over their heads and get two points, they will continue to do that. It’s a lot easier than learning how to play good halfcourt offense and draw up plays.
If they hit their free throws last night and convert one of those last possessions, they win the game, just like they did the first game. Both games were a toss up so it’s no surprise the series is 1-1 right now.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
Was it really a surprise that Spoelstra didn’t draw up the final play for lebron? Since when has he taken a final shot? (I keep telling everyone that 3 against the pacers a few months ago doesn’t count, he tries to give it up so many times before he has to shoot to avoid a 24sec violation). If anything I’d be genuinely surprised if lebron was meant to take any game winning or game tying shot. the legend of lebron continues
May 16th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
yo Sean Jean you can make the FT argument for the pacers too. Heat missed 4 of their last 5 i believe. Before Hill’s FTs, Pacers missed 4 of 6, so not only did they need to make their FT, they needed pacers to miss theirs. FT is not the issue
May 16th, 2012 at 11:09 AM
Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the Spurs Big Three paid almost as much as the Heat’s?
May 16th, 2012 at 11:10 AM
You remembered it wrong. I hooked up my VCR to watch a couple of episodes before I go this morning.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
I didn’t make the FT argument.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the Spurs Big Three paid almost as much as the Heat’s?
if that’s true, then they win with better GM-ing (bench choices) and coaching. not many better than pop. i took the spurs at minus 800 and i feel pretty good about that
May 16th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Kobe shoots.453/.337/.838 over his career and .430/.303/.845 this year so he’s average at best.

May 16th, 2012 at 11:18 AM
The heat big 3 + Miller = 52.9 million. The Spurs big 3 + Stephen Jackson = 55.7
May 16th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
Heat big three: $47.5M. Spurs big three: $46.8M.
Overall hilarity – #2 on the player list – Rashard Lewis ($22.2M)
May 16th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
Clippers really play terrible on the ball D. Spurs should win that in about 5 games.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
Miller has been a colossal disappointment. Guy is lucky if he scores two baskets lately. He misses open threes on the regular, can’t convert around the basket, can’t rebound, etc. He’s been awful. Same goes for Battier. Both guys are there to rebound, defend, and hit threes, and they don’t accomplish any of that.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:22 AM
Past tense only because you’re getting up there in age and you probably aren’t that sure of what it was anymore.
And I probably won’t be at Chicago TBL, so no dish from me. Just go to Frontera/Topolobampo and be happy.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:23 AM
Difference is that the spurs big 3 play have distinct roles and they fit better together than Miami’s…just like Boston’s three fit well together when they formed in 08
May 16th, 2012 at 11:24 AM
Yep, exactly.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:26 AM
YOU WATCH YOUR MOUTH BATTIER IS GORGEOUS HIS JAWLINE IS PERFECTION

World’s worst CPA right here.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:50 AM
Late, but a couple things:
1) I didn’t bring up Paxson or anyone, because i didn’t argue about this crappy game. I was too busy watching quality teams play.
2) Speaking of which, does the Spurs-Clips game not get a post? WTf is up with that?
3) Vogel is out coaching Spo this series, and he knew what that final play was going to be, hence the non-double on Lebron.
4) Wade is a bitch and should be suspended for his dirty ass cheap shot.
May 16th, 2012 at 1:13 PM
Lebron should have shot it but prior to this posession Lebron wanted NOTHING to do with the ball. He passed it twice to Shane fucking Battier before Wade got position in the post and missed essentially a wide open layup.
