Albert Pujols is Still a Steaming Trainwreck and His Struggles Probably Got 13-Year Hitting Coach Mickey Hatcher Fired
Albert Pujols heroically broke the seal last week in hitting that intensely elusive first home run. Great news, right? The temperamental slugger, for the first time all season, would finally be able to relax in his new surroundings and stop throwing things at teammates. Not really.
Since the memorable homer game, he’s a pedestrian 9-for-34, and that’s only a few steps removed from atrocious because he miraculously leapt from the casket Tuesday afternoon, coming up with three hits and two RBI. After the game, 13-year Angels hitting coach Mickey Hatcher was fired.
Despite the pleasant day at the ballpark, he still has just 14 RBI on the season in 36 games played. That’s four less than the great Wilson Betemit, who gets traded around like a human baseball card. Even worse, Betemit’s OPS (.729) is 193 points higher than Al B. Sure’s (.536). On the uplifting side of things, there’s almost no question newly appointed hitting coach Jim Eppard will turn multiple Louisville Sluggers into magic wands and fix everything; likely overnight.
If Angel fans are still seeking a way to look at this situation with the glass having a few sips left, hey, he’s only had two hit-less nights over his last seven games. Baby steps, people. Before Albert runs, he must relearn how to walk to first base.
One person who can rest comfortably now is Alex Rodriguez. Pujols would have turn into Josh Hamilton overnight in order to notch his 12th consecutive season of 30 homers and 100 RBI, and that’s just not happening. A-Rod holds the record with 13.

These are the dumbest firings. Hitting coaches help mold and correct. At the MLB level probably less than any other level. Just cowardly.

Is THIS Yardwork?
I cant get enough of that throwing the glove gif. What a frickin baby.

still blown away by albert’s reaction to the elbow thing…what an ass.

This nascar ad is hurting my commenter average and snarky remarks.

How do people think that a 37 year old power hitter is gonna hit like he did when he was 27?

Had nothing to do with Pujols. Halos fans have been calling for Hatchers head for years. More two do with the shitty hitting the last three years. This is more about DiPoto being in charge now instead of Sosh.

Of all the major FA signings of the past few years, which position players that signed with new teams have actually done well?
Beltre, Teixeira, Torii Hunter, Carlos Lee?
Meanwhile, Pujos, Fielder, Crawford, Werth, Dunn, Bay, Reyes, Drew, and Soriano seem to suggest you should avoid doing this.

So I got the impression from the post that someone was fired as a scapegoat, but I couldn’t quite put together who it was.

Asshole deserved it

What NASCAR as?

Carlos Lee?
Lee deserves a big, ole asterisk though. Yes he started out with a couple of solid years back to back, but since then he’s been more of a liability than anything. Mills refuses to move him from the cleanup spot despite the fact that Lee’s bat speed has gotten so slow that he’s hitting to the opposite field more than ever.

Ad, even.

Goddamn it….I wish he still played for the Cardinals.

I was going to make a snarky comment about this “record”, but I’m sure A-Rod really cares about this.

Sucks.

Rangers currently have the best odds in Vegas of any team to win their division. Thanks, Albert!

Tex was great his first year, since then he’s been a better fielding Mark Reynolds.

I’m kinda glad I can’t see what everyone is talking about.

Can Carlos Lee play 1B? How bad is his defense in LF these days?
May 16th, 2012 at 11:55 AM
Where would you bat him? Who would you bat cleanup?
May 16th, 2012 at 11:55 AM
No Yardwork yesterday, and now we get two! I am overwhelmed by all of this
May 16th, 2012 at 11:55 AM
Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee made me laugh in the excel maps. Sweet caves, brahs. And there’s no way that’s true in Bama.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:57 AM
Can Carlos Lee play 1B? How bad is his defense in LF these days?
He’s been at first all season. He started playing there occasionally last July. I like the move. We don’t have an obvious first baseman aside from Brett Wallace, who has been horrible inconsistent and is at AAA right now.
Lee is fat and slow. And he’s on the tail end of a $100 million contract with no sign that he’ll be on a team that’s competing for a ring in his remaining playing days. He doesn’t seem to be trying very hard anymore.
May 16th, 2012 at 11:58 AM
Where would you bat him? Who would you bat cleanup?
In the first month of the season, the answer to this question would be 5th and J.D. Martinez at cleanup. Martinez, however, is in the midst of a terrible slump. So the move doesn’t make any sense right now.

3 more hits for Bourn last night. Dude has been incredible this year. Unfortunately (for Braves fans), he might be pricing himself out of the Braves’ budget for next year.

Unless I missed the reason for it, I dig the seemingly out of nowhere dig at Wilson Betemit to make his point.

Ha. I took a look at RBI “leaders” and he happened to be one of the utility playing legends sitting ahead of Albert.

If you’re ever going to watch a race, this is the one. It’s a lot of fun and the drivers don’t give a damn if the car is usable once they cross the finish line. It kinda has a “death race” feel.
