Ballin’: Do the Clippers Have Any Shot Against the Spurs?
Miami 95, Indiana 86: Chris Bosh went down in the first half with a strained abdominal, but Wade (29 points, 13-of-14 FTs) and LeBron (32 points, 15 rebounds) carried the Heat to victory with a dominant 2nd half. LeBron put on an MVP-caliber performance in the 2nd half – 26 points in the 2nd half (when the Heat outscored the Pacers 53-38) – and hounded Danny Granger at the other end (1-of-10 FGs).
Roy Hibbert and David West were effective inside with Bosh out, combining for 34 points and 23 rebounds. Too bad neither of them could score in the final 4:50 – Miami only led by one, but then Indiana didn’t make another basket the rest of the way. Even if Bosh misses the rest of the series (he’s having an MRI today), the Heat still have this one sewn up. Getting by Boston next round? Not so sure.
LA Clippers 82, Memphis 72: OJ Mayo was 1-of-11. Mike Conley was 2-of-13. Zach Randolph was 3-of-12. The Grizzlies were outscored 27-16 in the fourth quarter. They were playing at home. They missed all 13 three-point attempts. This has to be one of the biggest pants-crapping efforts by a home team in game seven in quite some time, right? Memphis was an 8-point favorite! This could be a rough week for Lionel Hollins.
Oh, and this is probably worth mentioning – 25 of the 27 Clippers’ points in the 4th quarter were scored by … guys off the LA bench. Kenyon Martin (11 points, 10 rebounds), Nick Young (13 points), Eric Bledsoe (8 points) and Mo Williams (9 points). The Memphis bench shot a combined 4-of-18 for 11 points. So do the Clippers have a chance against the Spurs? Probably not if Blake Griffin (only 3-of-11 in 28 minutes) doesn’t get healthy real quick. Offensively, the Spurs might just be too much. They were 2nd in the league in scoring, tops in field goal percentage, and No. 1 in 3-point shooting, too. The Clippers are worn down, and game one Tuesday will be their 6th game in 11 days. When game one tips, the Spurs will not have played in eight days. Vinny Del Negro needs to soak up this series victory because he might get embarrassed by Pop.

Spurs in 5 at most.

Maybe with a timely injury and a couple of breaks here and there. Maybe.
/Spurs in 5

Indiana has to stay out of foul trouble and they need Hibbert to play 35-40 minutes a game this series. The Heat don’t really have an answer for that guy and the Amundson/Hansborough combo of the bench is less than inspiring.
May 14th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
What half was that?
May 14th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
Indiana had a better record than the Lakers this year which, while playing in the East, is surprising to me. If they could land a little better PG and some depth behind Hibbert/West, they could be legitimately scary next year.

We’ll also see how many more bad charges are called against the Pacers in game 2. Miami got away with so many bogus calls on Indiana in the first half yesterday. Its utter bullshit.
/falls to floor like D-Wade and Mike Miller

I don’t know if this is a thing or not, but these playoffs have to have the fewest teams scoring 100 points ever. You score 90, you can expect to win.
May 14th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Granted, the Pacers lost focus in the 2nd half but they should have had a 10-15 point lead at halftime.
May 14th, 2012 at 11:13 AM
I wouldn’t count out the Clips, but it’s definitely the matchup the Spurs would have picked if given the choice.
OKC-Lakers can’t get here fast enough. Potential to be a great series.
May 14th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
I think the Pacers have chance…they looked formidable yesterday until about 5 minutes to go.
May 14th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Babar, if Danny Granger can show up from the start of the game, this series will go 6 or 7.
Bummed ill miss celtics game tonight because of work but ill get back in time for most of the lakers-thunder game. Should be a great game

pacers should flop too, then. heat just taling what the refs are giving

now that MWP is back. he doesn’t play in G7, it’s nuggets-okc
May 14th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
I can’t take the Pacers seriously as a contender until they get a guy that can close a playoff game. Don’t give me Danny Granger, he isn’t the guy to begin with but he can’t do anything against LeBron.

True, vez. Fitting that David Stern was in attendance to view that shitshow yesterday
May 14th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
Spurs in 5. I think the Clips win game 4 since it is the 2nd night of a back to back and Pop mostly plays the B team.
May 14th, 2012 at 11:21 AM
If only David West had signed with Boston instead of Indiana. id LOVE that starting lineup of Rondo, Bradley, Pierce, West and KG with Ray and Bass off the bench
May 14th, 2012 at 11:21 AM
Should be a great game
no. these are the sixers. i was floored when i saw a 1-pt win the other day…and you needed a rondo special to get that. at home?
wtf?
May 14th, 2012 at 11:22 AM
MVP-caliber performance in the 2nd half – 26
Change 2nd Half to 4th quarter and take out MVP-Caliber and this is an accurate statement.
May 14th, 2012 at 11:22 AM
His quote about the flopping problem was enlightening, at least he knows it’s a problem. You can’t trust the refs on the court to take the responsibility for calling a flop, but there should be someone reviewing tape and handing out fines.
May 14th, 2012 at 11:23 AM
I wont be surprised if Spurs come out and blast Flop City by 20 in game 1. I saw nothing from the Clippers that tells me they can hang with San Antonio on offense. It’s amazing to see what the Spurs did to some good teams this year
May 14th, 2012 at 11:24 AM
True, vez. Fitting that David Stern was in attendance to view that shitshow yesterday
a.p. do we have any evidence that stern knows the game? enough to know a flop from a real foul, while he’s having his brioche and moet in a sterlized box chatting with some muckity mucks?
May 14th, 2012 at 11:24 AM
Caught the end of the Pacers/Heat game, the Pacers completely shat the bed in crunchtime which was not a surprise. The Heat dont have an answer for Hibbard but I dont think the Pacers know that he is their best player and key to winning just yet.
Missed the Grizz/Clippers game but saw Mayo’s stat line… good god they need to let him go. Cant imagine the level of frustration for a Grizzlies fan while watching him play, and for that team in general… supremely talented but cant get their shit together.
May 14th, 2012 at 11:24 AM
Vez, i was talking about LA-OKC being a great game. Celtics-Sixers will be another low scoring affair..unless Pierce comes out hot.
May 14th, 2012 at 11:25 AM
I’m concerned that he was just trying to place blame elsewhere (see his quote about the competition committee). If he means it though, it will vastly improve the NBA.
May 14th, 2012 at 11:44 AM
He should have made this “revalation” during the Knicks series, especially after Game 1. But I understand why he wouldn’t.
Knicks > Pacers.
May 14th, 2012 at 11:45 AM
Hahahahahahahahahahaha
May 14th, 2012 at 11:49 AM
Wow I just put some money on the Clippers at +1600 to win the series- IMO, that’s a great value.
May 14th, 2012 at 11:50 AM
Cant imagine the level of frustration for a Grizzlies fan
This isn’t coming from me, but apparently a lot of people, sportswriters included were baffled/upset at Hollins rotations.
