Matt Kuchar Wins the Players Championship
Matt Kuchar had a spectacular four days, tied for the lead after round two, one stroke back entering today, and put up another good round on Sunday. As Kevin Na faltered with the final day lead, shooting a 76, Kuchar concluded his fourth day of a score between 68 and 70. Martin Laird, Ben Curtis, Zach Johnson and Luke Donald all tried to make charges on Sunday. Rickie Fowler had chances, but could not gain ground on Kuchar.
Kuchar looked to have it comfortably in hand on the back side after taking a three stroke lead, but after getting on the green at #17, he three-putted to bogey. The drama lasted a few moments, and when Fowler missed a potential birdie put on 18, Kuchar just needed to avoid a double bogey to win. He got his par (after much delay thanks to Na, again, allowing Kuchar to discuss the NBA playoffs with his caddy) and the best tournament win of his career.
Tiger Woods, meanwhile, concluded with a 73 to finish in a tie for 40th. For the third tournament in a row, Woods hasn’t even been in contention. Phil Mickelson also shot a 73 on Sunday, to finish in a tie for 25th.

A great win, and really happy for him. He’s finally broken through.

We need to quit discussing Woods as well. He’s become “some guy” as better athletes with calmer nerves and more focus have overtaken him in droves.

You should just be glad the headline wasn’t “Woods Finishes 40th, Some Guy Named Coochie Wins”.
Honestly though, Woods will be mentioned in every blog post and article until he’s finally actually finished as a golfer, might as well embrace the headline and lede being about the actual event/winner.

Who has overtaken him? Kuchar got his 4th win of his career and he is the same age as Woods. Who do you think has become so great? McIlroy who missed the cut this week? Here is a great stat for you Do you know who the last golfer to win back to back weeks on the PGA Tour was? Tiger Woods

Real golf fans dont obsess over tiger. Its the phony, casual sunday last round watchers and the desperate sports media who actually care every moment tiger takes a shit or ties his shoes

Glad for Kuchar, nice guy. But I was actually pulling for Martin Laird. It always frustrates the golf media lackies when a no-name wins something big. Two words; Craig Perks. If he could, Tim Finchem would have given Rickie Fowler a do-over on that gagged putt on 18. Love the way Finchem or Rickie’s clothes provider so obviously planted those kids in Rickie-wear where the NBC cameras would pick them up.

That tells me two things: professional golf is loaded, and golf is hard

yea, but this weekend’s shitty finish wasn’t much of a surprise…he’s never really played well at TPC sawgrass.
also…im loving rickie fowler proving my criticisms wrong birdie after birdie after birdie.
