The Parks and Recreation season finale was tremendously tremendous. Nobody likes Doug Gottlieb either.
May 11th, 2012 at 8:06 AM
agreed. we never even settled Kobe vs. LeBron.
May 11th, 2012 at 8:08 AM
the background music is a hilarious soundtrack to this video.

Chubby? Right. Anyways, that manager needs a raise or a reality show.

I hope Clay Buchholz feels the same way tonight.

Broke down and read an ‘Avengers’ review. Still excited to see it soon.
The reviewer is guilty of trying too hard. As summer entertainment, the movie was well-crafted. I’d see it again.
“Dog Pees On Electrical Outlet, Starts Fire Inside Home”
Whoops. “Arf”. I think we know what condition the dog’s in…

I’m stopping at a church on my way home today to light a candle for its renewal…have to imagine though that if Community got another episode order (fuck yeah!) then P&R should be good

can’t wait to see footage of when the original Dream Team “lost” to college kids
How many minutes of the NBA TV’s Dream Team special will be dedicated to Christian Laettner? 2? 3?
Watch this 6-year-old make an unassisted triple play.
Kid should save that footage. It won’t get better.

The manager is great. Only a middle aged black woman can say “You Nasty!”. Also, love the token white friend. Great video all around, though I wish I didnt know the dude was obese who got out of the bathroom — that would have been a nice little surprise.

There is a guy here at the office who actually has that poster hanging on his cubicle wall and routinely is seen performing said exercises.

Tom Brokaw thinks the DC Correspondents dinner is too much …
it is…it’s an unbelievable waste of time, money and resources. all to glad hand some fucking journalists? WHAT THE FUCK?
If you don’t make the journalists feel important, they turn on you. A fancy dinner and a chance to gawk at Kate Upton and Rosario Dawson makes them docile.

Watch this 6-year-old make an unassisted triple play
meh… If your 6-year-old team doesn’t get at least one these during the season then:
A. You’re a terrible coach
or
B. You drafted poorly and your team is chocked full of cricket chasers

Had the rule not been changed to allow NBA players to play in the Olympics, that would have been our Olympic team. I heard Webber say recently that that bunch of college kids, at the time, were pretty ticked off about that.

Only the two campaigns themselves. Romney and Co. tried to make a big deal out of Obama being fed dog meat when he was 6 years old in Indonesia, so when they try and tell you that the past shouldn’t matter, they’re full of shit. This campaign is going to be a nauseating one.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
The Disney company will find a way to put their own “finishing touches” on it. By the end of the flick, these 2 will be appearing in the WS.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
They will have one of those pitcher win game 7 of the world series since they like to make things up on these movies based on a true story.

They really fucke up that Chinese fire drill
May 11th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
as a coach myself, it ain’t the coaching. We coach 9 year olds and stress to them field awareness and knowing your roll. for example, last night. bases loaded, grounder right to the SS. the kid of second takes 4 or 5 steps towards 3rd, see’s the SS with the ball and heads back to 2nd. me and the other coach are both yelling “tag him!”. instead, he watches the kid run right by him, then chases him halfway to 3rd, and then throws the ball away.
kids are kind of stupid sometimes.

I’m just interested in how Romney’s campaign managers will deal with these situations, it won’t be the last time a story is printed where Romney comes off as being callous and completely out of touch with the voting public.
too bad for him the story hits on two hot topic issues, bullying and the lgbt community.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:14 AM

It already is. I was on the treadmill last night and MSNBC, CNN and Fox News were all on the TVs, each with some talking head bitching about some candidate. Boehner saying Obama was trying to misdirect the American people from the jobs/economy by supporting gay marriage was a real treat to read on closed caption. Al Sharpton, who apparently contracted AIDS as he’s melting away, was complaining about a war against the poor with a sneering headshot of Boehner.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:29 AM
I bet Mitt’s team is sitting in some hotel bitching about how this would have been excellent yesterday. You know, before Mitt all but admitted to it.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Same thing happened to me a week ago, except it was a tourney for old people. I was none too pleased.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Didnt Mitt already apologize for it?
May 11th, 2012 at 9:32 AM

May 11th, 2012 at 9:32 AM

May 11th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
What does this mean? You’re pissed because he went to a fund raiser hosted by George Clooney?
It’s not that he went to a Hollywood fundraiser. It’s that he went RIGHT AFTER he announced his support for gay marriage. Nothing wrong with it, and it’s a brilliant campaign move, but it doesn’t look right. There were other issues that need to be dealt with such as the Repubs wanting to slash Medicare, Meals on Wheels, and other social programs to try and save $1 trillion.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:33 AM
Whoops?
/Dimon is taking major heat for this
May 11th, 2012 at 9:33 AM
yeah, I caught the second half after our little league game. Baum Stadium is awesome, probably puts 3/4 of minor league parks to shame in all honesty.
as for the Hogs, they have no offense to speak of. zero. the HR Reynold hit last night was there 8th in SEC play, and that is through 25 games. their bats are pathetic. they have wasted so many good pitching performances this year because they can’t score more than 2 runs. they have something like the 5th best ERA in the nation, and are .500 in SEC play. it’s quite pathetic really.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:33 AM
Al Sharpton, who apparently contracted AIDS
There’s something both ironic and befitting about that statement.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:33 AM

But still, who gives a shit was someone did when they were in High School.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
This was done so they could study your brain, correct?
May 11th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
You realize the fundraiser was scheduled a while ago and sold out a while ago, right? Also, what does “it doesn’t look right” mean, exactly?
May 11th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
Jamie Dimon might have to start bringing his lunch to work in light of this news.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
Everyone is making a big deal out of Obama’s coming out for gay marriage and the timing, but the truth is he’s been for it since at least 1996. And who cares about the fucking timing. It’s a pretty big deal that our president supports it.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
I honestly don’t, but this is what happens in modern politics because the media needs something…anything…to talk about every second. Instead of admitting that there isn’t news at every moment, they try so hard to find crap and call it news to prove their argument.

It means someone is a homophobe.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
I read that Post article. When you’re up for POTUS these things get reported. IIRC they sourced 5 different people who were there. It’s good reporting. I don’t think it makes or breaks anything to the vast majority of the voters, but to say it’s not a valid story is far-fetched.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
if the president, or any politician, put everything else on hold until those problems were solved nothing would be accomplished while they were in office.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
as for the Hogs, they have no offense to speak of. zero.
On the flip side, Auburn leads the SEC in hitting (maybe?) yet are at .500 b/c their pitching is weak.
Pitching in college has really improved over the last 5-7 years – along with changes to the bats. I would have to verify but it just appears that run scoring is down over the last few years.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
Exactly. Obama has been for gay marriage for a long time, but the internal polling they have now told them that it won’t lose him an election like it might have just 4 years ago. It’s more symbolic than anything else that he’s actually saying it out loud, though.

May 11th, 2012 at 9:39 AM
This is well said. You can knock the importance of the piece, but it was sourced with 4 people on the record and one anonymous. And as Scripty said, you sign up for this shit when you run for President. You accept that your entire life is going to be scrutinized. Right or wrong doesn’t really matter. That’s just the way it is.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Sports.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
It definitely has. The new bats just don’t have the same pop. MLB is working on a new partnership with the NCAA, and one of the rumors is that they are pushing for wood bats in college. Not sure how that would work with all the sponsorships from those bat companies though.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
what’s the reaction to grass like? Sneezing, wheezing? watery eyes with goop in them? itchiness?
May 11th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
Does anybody else’s dog have allergies to grass? Feel bad drugging the guy with Benadryl, but I dunno what else to do!
Are dogs permitted to eat honey?
Ben, we need your bee/honey expertise here. It has helped (not cured) my youngest son.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
MLB is working on a new partnership with the NCAA
There’s been ruors of this for 2 years. The big question, like you said, is sponsorship. Those bat companies are not going down quietly if this is indeed the case.

That wouldn’t necessarily go away.
My 12 yr old is playing in a wood bat tournament this weekend. The kids really think its big-time.

May 11th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
Cutting Medicare funds would really hurt our health care system. Medicare is the majority payor for most hospitals in this country. With the Baby Boomers retiring or set to retire, they’re going to need that program in a few years. You can’t turn your back on that generation, who played a huge role in economic development for the past 50 years.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
I need to try this. my allergies are awful, and this is one of the few things I haven’t tried. Local honey, right?
May 11th, 2012 at 9:45 AM
If you can point me in the direction of any of these “stories” receiving the same, over-the-top, ridiculous exposé treamtment as this — from the supposed 2nd most prestigious newspaper in the country — I’ll gladly capitulate.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:45 AM
You need to get local honey though, not a store bought brand. The local honey helps due to the bees using the local pollens and what not.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
How many people do you think read (or will have read) the article by Nov? Take that number and compare it to the amount of people who will have been told whatever Fox News has made up in the past 4 years and get back to me.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Honey helps allergies? Shit, I need to try this.
you should find local/regional honey, which is generally more expensive (and tastes better!).
Theory – creating an immunity to pollen through ingestion (or some such stuff).
I make my kid fruit smoothies almost every night before he goes to bed and each one has 1 TBLSP minimum of honey in it. I’ve been doing that for about 2 years and this Spring was a breeze – only 2-3 days of sinus stuff.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:47 AM
100% serious. Mostly because of your use of “floppy.”
do some research, i cant do it for you.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
Auburn’s best hitter was out last night too. agree with you on both pitching and the bats though. shit, Arkansas moved the RF fences in this year (part because of bats, part because of prevailing wind always coming in from RF) and they still can’t hit for power.
Auburn’s starter last night was a mid-week pitcher most of the year.
I admittedly love the ping! of the college game, but I would have no problem if they switched to wood bats.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
Looks like I need to do some research and find some local stuff. Hey Ben, you near Chicago?
May 11th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
If it doesn’t come in a plastic bear, it’s not honey.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
My aunt and uncle’s westie had skin allergies to grass. He takes steroids but this honey thing sounds promising.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:49 AM

May 11th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
i said it before, too bad for romney this hits on two hot button issues in the country right now that people are talking about… bullying (specifically against LGBT kids) and the growing support for gay marriage.
if this was printed without those two issues being talked about so frequently it’s back page news.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
yeah, farmers market is probably the best place to get it. talk to beekeeper ben, he probably knows. I don’t really like honey so I’ve never tried it, but been told it works wonders.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:50 AM
Auburn leads the SEC in hitting
footnote: they likely are last in the conference hitting with RISP.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:50 AM
Unfortunately I don’t think there are a lot of local honey distributors in chicago. The suburbs and farm country, yes, but not local so I don’t think it will help you. Check out the local farmers market when they start up in a couple of weeks.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:51 AM
Everyone is making a big deal out of Obama’s coming out for gay marriage and the timing, but the truth is he’s been for it since at least 1996
wrong. he was for it IN 1996, not since. he switched to CUs when he got elected, and has held that stance until wednesday.

May 11th, 2012 at 9:54 AM
That was my biggest problem with the story, not necessarily the Post article but the aftermath. I’m fine with reporting on what the candidates were like in High School, but making the supposition that they targeted this kid because they thought he might be gay took the story a bit too far, IMO.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:54 AM
It’s a Presidential Election year…get used to it.

I buy my local honey at the hardware store.
I make my kid fruit smoothies almost every night before he goes to bed
Advice to future parents of athletes… the fruit smoothies has helped my boys with their work outs. They never cramp and they always seem to have plenty of energy (partly genes, but …). The nightly smoothie is a great way to fill up a kid before bed to help him sleep, load up on potassium and get him ready for the next day. It’s cheaper than you think if you buy fresh.
My middle-school guy had 7:00AM conditioning all spring and has yet to have any issues with cramps and puking.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
Yeah, but that’s the reason he was targeted, according to the sources.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
Though if true, it holds up to how Romney has viewed gays and gay marriage. He’s very much anti-gay thanks to be such a devout Mormon. So when he tries to say he is this or that on the subject, you can see by his actions (political donations to anti-causes) and statements (saying even civil unions shouldn’t be allowed) you know he’s full of shit.

My favorite aspect of those against gay marriage is that they rail against the left for wanting to impinge on their rights (guns), yet they vote to impinge on the rights of others.

White Bread needs to get Clint Eastwood, Robert Duval and John McClane on the horn ASAP. The Donald isn’t getting it done.

Just because I question someone or something does not automatically pigeonhole my on either the Elephant or Donkey side. I suppose Obama was pissed that Biden had to open his stupid mouth before he could have a proper response on this sensitive issue. He even said as much during the Robin Roberts interview. The timing was just too coincidental with the fundraiser..
May 11th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
I was going to ask the same question. How long before you’re going to put them to bed do you give them the smoothie?
May 11th, 2012 at 10:03 AM
Maybe the opponents of gay marriage who argue about the sanctity of marriage should look in the mirror and work on lowering that 50% divorce rate…

Oh Marisa…you can stop by my place anytime you’d like.
My favorite argument is the one Christie tried to play where he said we should vote on gay marriage and not go through government. He then said (with a straight face) that the South would have loved a vote more than the riots in the streets. Yeah, Chris…those racist KKK members would have LOVED a popular vote where they outnumbered the blacks by a wide margin.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
That makes too much sense.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:05 AM

Oh…so we’re just talking about WaPo pieces now? Again, I’d like to know how many people will have read that article by Nov and compare it to how many people will have visited Fox News.com or watch their network by the same time. Was this a hit piece? Maybe it was. But it was a very well sourced hit piece and Mitt isn’t denying it.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Ban Marriage! Just a waste of money. People change, and if you really want to get out of a relationship, it shouldn’t cost you thousands of hard earned $$$$$.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
That’s actually not what I’m saying at all.
I don’t remember the NYTimes, or WaPo — rightly — covering the Birther nonsense with a front page feature, being critical/skeptical of Obama himself.
To counter, they just ran a huge front page splash on Romney’s high school pranks.
So the birther idiocy is out. For example, did the NYTimes ever do a front page story on Obama the high school drug-addict?
May 11th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
Do I care that White Bread was a stuck up prick in HS? No. Him being a dick as a spoiled rich kid is in no way surprising. But this is what happens when someone runs for President. Your life is ripped apart. You don’t think Fox News or Drudge or Breitbart wasn’t trying desperately to find this exact same piece on Obama the past 4 years? Of course they were. So either they’re incompetent investigative journalists (could be, but I doubt it) or there isn’t much to find.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:11 AM

That’s insane.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
Maybe the opponents of gay marriage who argue about the sanctity of marriage should look in the mirror and work on lowering that 50% divorce rate…
I don’t give a shit if gays marry each other. Having gone through a failed marriage, I’m in no position to say who can or can’t marry. More money for the marriage industry and divorce lawyers.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
Sounds like a bad experience?

I don’t see why they’re an enigma. There are certainly numerous non-gay issues which can influence their political leanings more than the gay ones.

May 11th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
So you’re crying because the NYT and WaPo hasn’t come out with a piece about Obama getting high as a senior in high school, right? You’d feel better about the world if they wrote an expose about him rolling a blunt behind the gym? So Fox News, the most watched cable news channel by a mile, isn’t good enough for you? You want an old newspaper (a medium for which you crack jokes about on the reg) to come out with a similar piece on Obama and you’d be happy?
May 11th, 2012 at 10:24 AM

May 11th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
Not sure I’m admitting that, but you didn’t answer my question either. As someone stated above, some crap about Obama and his GF was all over the Post was it not? Is that not good enough? Also, any news on that comment about Obama being a drug addict in HS?
But back to the Elite Media being pro-Obama. Yeah, I’d say they are. But of course it isn’t like there aren’t plenty of (very popular) entities that are far more anti-Obama. But just like I tell people who bitch about academics and professors being liberal: if you want a more conservative academic crowd, go into that arena. But most people who value teaching at that level and researching don’t seem to be very conservative. Not sure why, but that’s the way it is. It’s the same way with journalists.

Mike, do you think the WSJ would run the story about Mittens and his hair styling prowess? Or the Washington Times?
May 11th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
Husker Dawg is straining awfully hard to defend that fundamentally irrelevant but inflammatory piece of journalism. Not sure why what Romney may have done (the family has denied it) almost fifty years ago is relevant. You say it is because it shows Romney to be a prick and a presumed homophobe, yet Obama recounts how he bullied a girl in one of his eight autobiographies and I’d hardly suspect that has any bearing on the man today. As for a position on gay rights, I’m guessing if Obama’s views can “evolve” in the course of a week (just in time to get a lot of donations), Romney’s can, too. Romney FWIW favors civil unions and gay adoption, and that is functionally as relevant as Obama’s “let the states decide” approach. Please, stop trying to pretend what the Post did was serious journalism because it had five sources (though not the source that would be important); I will take the Post seriously when it looks into what Obama was doing during the entire decade of the 80s, or they tell us what Obama’s high school or college grades are.
May 11th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
And the Post was “reporting” on what Joe McGuiness (spelling?) said about Obama and his ex in his new biography; none of what was revealed was especially damaging or interesting – it suggested Obama was a bit aloof and impressed with himself, but we knew that already. When the Post devotes resources to actual muckraking, articles on Romney as a high school bully are what get printed. And this is supposedly one of the leading lights of American journalism!

Political Fridays are terrible. Arguing about this stuff on the internet is pointless. HuskerDawg is never going to admit when MIKE NYC is right about something or makes a good point, and vice versa.
The worst part is that people who ordinarily have good points on sports topics or consistently make me laugh, make me think so much less of them when they argue politics.
Except for the Sportsgunt. She’ll always be a ragingly mad dirt hoar to me. NTTAWWT. I’d breast feed from her on the cover of Time. Hint, hint.
