Is Chris Paul’s Groin Healthy Enough to Beat the Grizzlies?
Gosh I hope so. There’s no way the Paper Clips would win game seven on the road. Grizzlies at Clippers. 9 pm. ESPN. It’d be nice if DeAndre Jordan showed up for the Clippers. He has 18 points and 22 rebounds in the series. Marc Gasol, his counterpart, had 23 points in game four.

IMHO, Paul is more a “short-area quickness” guy versus a blinding speed guy. I expect him to play & play well.
As usual, I’m still rooting for my Grizz. Hope they come out and play with a sense of desperation. Watching how Gay & Conley start the game – if they play team ball (get the ball to Randolph and Gasol), the Grizz should get off to a good start.
If Gay comes out trying to be “the show” (or if Conley comes out trying to force his own offense), my Grizz are gonna lose.
May 11th, 2012 at 7:21 PM
Rooting for the Clips to close out. They are a much easier match up for the Spurs. Plus, if this goes 7 games, I believe next round will have a back to back.
May 11th, 2012 at 7:22 PM
Lrbron wins the MVP, which is a fucking joke. Great season, yes. MVP on that team, no.
May 11th, 2012 at 7:39 PM
Really? I am willing to bet you are in the minority on this. I viewed it as 1) Lebron (gap) 2) Durant (HUGE GAP) 3) everyone else.
May 11th, 2012 at 7:44 PM
Comes down to which coach is worse.
May 11th, 2012 at 7:44 PM
Dont understand how Kobe isnt the best choice.
You take Kobe off the Lakers, and they arent even near a playoff team.
May 11th, 2012 at 8:02 PM
They beat Denver without him in the regular season.
May 11th, 2012 at 8:05 PM
You guys have to be kidding, right? Right, you’re kidding.
Bron had stupid numbers and dominated both ends. Both! I’m not arguing something that is pretty clear.
May 11th, 2012 at 8:10 PM
This. I mean, where else could you find a shooting guard who hits 43% of his shots, and 30% from behind the line?
/everywhere
May 11th, 2012 at 8:10 PM
If this award was named most outstanding player, lebron would win every year and nobody would complain. The MVP is not always the best player in the league but the media has turned it into best = most valuable.
May 11th, 2012 at 8:11 PM
Darvish pitching to Pujols right now on mlb network
May 11th, 2012 at 8:12 PM
I was thinking the same thing.
May 11th, 2012 at 8:23 PM
I hate the most valuable/most important argument. It’s worn out and just doesn’t line up the majority of the time. Not saying you’re not partially right, to a point though.
May 11th, 2012 at 8:26 PM
My problem with it is there’s just no point to it. Some people believe the best player by definition provides the most value to his team, other people believe it depends on the team. No one will ever change their minds about how to define value. Of course the same is true of all sports arguments, so whatever.
May 11th, 2012 at 8:27 PM
buchholz stat line is embarassing. remind me to never draft a red sox again. thier time of greatness is ova.
May 11th, 2012 at 8:30 PM
Heat’s record without Wade this year: 14-3.
Heat’s record without LeBron this year: 1-3.
I know, small sample size, but the idea that b/c he plays with Wade he can’t be MVP is ridiculous. Wade missed 17 games this year and LeBron carried them in his absence.
May 11th, 2012 at 8:44 PM
Dopeman..its pathetic..the guy never has less than 60 pitches through 3 or 4 innings. Im a sox fan and am tired of him
May 11th, 2012 at 8:47 PM
I hate to say it, but they should’ve let him go for bait few years back (can’t remember for who). I still like him though. If Middlebrooks keeps it going, maybe the Youk rumor wouldn’t be so bad.
/can’t believe I’m saying it
May 11th, 2012 at 8:48 PM
Pretty meaningless stats.
Take Kobe off the Lakers and tell me how the Lakers year goes.
May 11th, 2012 at 8:50 PM
Wasnt Bucholz supposed to be the next good to great starter at one time?
I dont follow the Sox real close but I thought that was the case. What happened to him?
May 11th, 2012 at 8:54 PM
For Santana when he was already having signs of shoulder trouble? No way. Buchholz still has potential to be a top 20 starter, with a club-friendly long-term deal. Y’all are crazy trying to trade him.
He broke his freaking back, give him a few months to get a feel for his stuff. He’s always had a little bit of confidence issues, but he’s probably get the best complement of stuff on the staff.
May 11th, 2012 at 8:56 PM
As for pitch counts… both Lester and Buchholz (and now Bard/Doubtrant) had trouble with them early on and both settled down.
The biggest issue is that next year you’ll have Lackey being the 6th best but highest paid starter, so Bard or Doubrant will have to be traded or gone to the pen (unless they can unload Beckett, which I’m not as okay with since he’s the best pitcher they have this year).
May 11th, 2012 at 8:57 PM
Buchholz…
2012: $3.5 million
2013: $5.5 million
2014: $7.7 million
2015: $12 million
2016: $13 million team option (or $245,000 buyout)
2017: $13.5 million team option (or $500,000 buyout)
May 11th, 2012 at 8:59 PM
I don’t want to trade him. I still believe he can be the guy. Just consistency wise, it’s frustrating. Last year he was On a roll until the injury. I think I’m sour just the way this year has started. And for the record, screw Lackey.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:00 PM
looks like jimenez and the tribe sort of suck. who knew (i did). Anyway, no K’s? Fuck that mother…
May 11th, 2012 at 9:00 PM
Thats freakin sad.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:03 PM
My Sad Sox twitter avatar agrees.
I always have a higher standard for hired hands. If you are going to suck give your own guys (Nava, DMac, etc) some run first. Despite hitting on Aviles/Sweeney, crappy retreads aren’t going to cut it forever.
Now we get Scott Posednik. Woo. Hoo.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:05 PM
Yep. The only way I’m okay with trading Beckett is if they really are going to go with Lester-Buch-Bard-Doubrant all in the rotation, and really think they have enough depth to not need Beckett (they don’t). I can’t handle another free agent bust. I just can’t.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:09 PM
Podsednik? Fill me in. Love Aviles, and I wish DMac got more play. Really miss Reddick too
May 11th, 2012 at 9:09 PM
WWOS,
You think the Sox are gonna miss Epstein in the future or is the team in pretty good hands. I dont get to follow the AL too much.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:11 PM
May 11th, 2012 at 9:11 PM
Pee…you want more Darnell? Heavens no..he is terrible…id rather have JD Drew
I just saw the Podsednik news..we’ll see what he has left..mid 30s…
May 11th, 2012 at 9:11 PM
May 11th, 2012 at 9:12 PM
*peer…
And rondo, Theo was the one who stuck the sox with a lot of these bad contracts. Fuck that. See ya, theo!
May 11th, 2012 at 9:13 PM
Scotty Pods is pretty bad all around.
I cant believe he hasnt been in the majors since 2010. What makes some of these guys hold on? Money?
His line in the minors is also quite horrible and he brings nothing to the table defensively.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:14 PM
Thanks for the reply.
What happened to Wiz Kid Theo? The next great GM? Just had a string of some bad free agent signings?
May 11th, 2012 at 9:14 PM
Basically, pods will be used as a defensive replacement/baserunner..a slightly better alternative to darnell
May 11th, 2012 at 9:16 PM
The last few years were filled with bad decisions. Im not sure if management pressured him to make big splashes but he still was in charge of the personnel decisions.. Its going to be a rough year or two
May 11th, 2012 at 9:19 PM
Just got back from fishing to see that Ubaldo sucks fucking dick yet again. Worst trade ever. What a sack of shit.
/opens up beer
May 11th, 2012 at 9:21 PM
Glad that Ubaldo was there to give Boston a rare home win..thus far
May 11th, 2012 at 9:22 PM
Damn…NHL should have had the Rangers Caps game 7 tonight…stupid 2 days off…
May 11th, 2012 at 9:25 PM
I guess. Maybe personal like trumps talent over others. I don’t get the Pods acquisition
May 11th, 2012 at 9:29 PM
It’s so frustrating and maddening seeing the results of the big trades the past 3 years or so for the Tribe. The only silver lining was the Victor trade which netted them Masterson and Hagadone. The others..
CC for Brantley (slightly above avg) LaPorta (bust so far) Jackson (out of the organization) Bryson (hurt I think)
Cliff Lee for Knapp (hurt I believe) Carasco (TJ surgery) Marson (backup catcher) Donald (below average utility guy)
Hopefully Pomeranz isn’t that good and Alex White got a DUI! Ubaldo’s garbage.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:30 PM
What the fuck happened to Ubaldo?
How do you go from completely dominant to horrible in less than a year. I guess the league figured him out. Sports are full of one year wonders but I really thought Jimenez was the real deal.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:33 PM
what an awful start for the Clips.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:34 PM
When you have weird looking mechanics like Ubaldo and Big Time Timmy Jim out in San Fran, you wear down faster than other pitchers and guys hit you at a better rate due to velocity decreasing by 1-3 MPH
May 11th, 2012 at 9:35 PM
Mechanics issues I think from what I’ve read. He’s lost command, control and velocity. At this point, the only way this trade is tolerable is if Ubaldo can manage to win at least 30 games combined this and next season. Gotta hope it happens. It pisses me off that the Tribe couldn’t pry Drabek from the Phillies. Instead they opted for 4 players.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:35 PM
What a bullshit foul call
May 11th, 2012 at 9:36 PM
Lets go Grizz! I refuse to root for a team with Kenyon Martin and Blake
May 11th, 2012 at 9:37 PM
Ubaldo just outdueled Darvish last start against a potent Rangers lineup. Yeah just one start but I wonder how much of it is mental as well.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:38 PM
This is the NBA, first quarter means jack.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:39 PM
Paul has 0 points and 3 assists. If he doesnt have a big game, we’re going back to Memphis
May 11th, 2012 at 9:39 PM
I didn’t watch the game. But from what I heard, Ubaldo was still all over the place and the Rangers pretty much bailed him out chasing.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:40 PM
living in denver and watching ubaldo, his form and everything is fucked up. plus after he threw that no-no he knew he could force his way out. He did. Rockies dont pay for pitching…unless you are 50.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:41 PM
Yeah it seems control issues as well against the Rangers.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:41 PM
So we’re getting a game 7 of lakers-nuggets and its at 10:30 eastern on saturday night? Fuck..
May 11th, 2012 at 9:42 PM
Clipper fan AP?
May 11th, 2012 at 9:43 PM
Celtics fan…just providing a narrative. Rooting for Grizzlies because i cant stand Kenyon Martin and the overrated Blake Griffin
May 11th, 2012 at 9:44 PM
Bullshit charge there. Bledsoe not set enough when he got run into. Damn nba refs are awful (and yes i admit boston got away with calls last night)
May 11th, 2012 at 9:45 PM
Yeah Griffin really needs to work on his shot this offseason.
His run into the lane and acting like a bowling ball knocking over pins is bullshit. Almost all his highlight dunks should be offensive fouls too.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:46 PM
Thats why its hard to the the NBA seriously a lot of the times. How some guy can get manhandles on one end, no call, then on the other end they call a ticky tack foul.
As much as I like watching the NBA playoffs, its really frustrating to watch at times.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:46 PM
what an awful start for the Clips.
Clippers seem a bit tight, but the Grizz are sloppy. So, there you go…
May 11th, 2012 at 9:47 PM
And heres Clay Buchholz loading the bases…fuck…
May 11th, 2012 at 9:47 PM
worst. basketball. ever.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:47 PM
SROD, nationals lighting up the reds tonight. Gio looked really good on the mound
May 11th, 2012 at 9:48 PM
yup, he has only thrown 111 pitches. keep him in.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:48 PM
Dopeman, im sure Chicago-Philly was worse basketball
May 11th, 2012 at 9:49 PM
I remember last year looking at Fangraphs and Ubaldo had the highest or 2nd highest avg FB speed. I think Verlander may have been ahead of him. He went from a solid 97-98 mph FB to a low to mid 90′s FB.
Dude, Caps n Rangers is at 7:30. That should be one hell of a game. MSG will be ROCKING. I love that the Nuggets have already won more games in this series than the Knicks have won in over a decade. Carmelo!
May 11th, 2012 at 9:50 PM
Vlad, i am glad that the game is primetime tomorrow..just wish it was tonight…moreso because the baseball games on arent interesting and clippers-grizz is semi interesting
May 11th, 2012 at 9:51 PM
They need to get Bucholz out now!
May 11th, 2012 at 9:51 PM
SROD, nationals lighting up the reds tonight. Gio looked really good on the mound
yeah, I saw the first three innings, then ran an errand (went to hear a friend sing at a talent show up the street). Got back to see Gio wiggle out of that jam in the 5th. He’s still pitching pretty well. So far, so fair.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:51 PM
Oh nevermind I see hes out.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:52 PM
Rich hill is in now for boston
May 11th, 2012 at 9:54 PM
I see rich hill forgot how to throw strikes while on the DL
May 11th, 2012 at 9:54 PM
Is there another team that has a better relatively young catcher, SS and 2B combo as the Tribe? It’s such a damn shame Grady has been so derailed by injury. I’m hoping he can come back in June or July and contribute.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:54 PM
Sox looking to implode.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:55 PM
Red sox games are even more painful when followng on gamecast…
May 11th, 2012 at 9:56 PM
Wait..a clipper flopped? No way!
May 11th, 2012 at 9:57 PM
no. this is the worst basketball game i have ever seen. 15 fade-away shots. mad turn-overs. I’m sure TBL loves it.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:57 PM
Flopping has gotten completely out of control in the NBA.
May 11th, 2012 at 9:58 PM
Maybe things will change when david stern retires and a lesser asshole of a commissioner takes over
May 11th, 2012 at 9:59 PM

May 11th, 2012 at 10:01 PM

May 11th, 2012 at 10:02 PM
How many other teams have an everyday 1B hitting below the Mendoza line?
/Trade for Youk
May 11th, 2012 at 10:02 PM
I dont get NESN or the mlb package..sadly.. I only get to watch red sox when they play the yanks, are on espn/tbs, or the occasional mlb network game.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:03 PM
Vlad, go ahead..trade for an oft injured slow infielder with ever decreasing plate discipline..
May 11th, 2012 at 10:04 PM
Wally
Any chance Fausto comes back this year? I read he’s having Visa problems. They really need a 5th starter and Zack Mack, Kluber, Huff and whoever don’t give me much hope. And can you fill me in on Jason Knapp please. Is he alive?
May 11th, 2012 at 10:05 PM
Well when you play under a fake name, you’re going to have visa problems…
May 11th, 2012 at 10:07 PM
Vlad – those got in the Visa scams probably arent coming back. What they did is egregious according to most and not the scam they say it is.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:07 PM
Dont.Give.A.Fuck.
Contract year and he’s a hell lot better than Casey KKKKKKKotchman.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:09 PM
Looking less likely on Roberto/Fausto Hernandez/Carmona, at least for this year. And the need for a 5th starter is to replace Ubaldo, I assume? Gomez has been great until last start.
The need is RH bats. They can’t hit lefties. And if Kotchman is going to play, he HAS to hit.
Knapp is dead again. Looks like a bust. Zach and Kluber have both been pitching well and Mac looked great in his first start this year.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:10 PM
Yeah, ill be surprised if the guys formerly known as Fausto Carmona and Leo Nunez ever play in the U.S. again
May 11th, 2012 at 10:11 PM
Wait, you guys dont think Shelley Duncan is the savior?
/wanking
May 11th, 2012 at 10:11 PM
Horrible, horrible technical call
May 11th, 2012 at 10:12 PM
No shock..Mark Davis..the tech happy ref, nailed Evans with a stupid T. He was the ref in the rondo ref bump game
May 11th, 2012 at 10:13 PM
Thanks for the clarification AP. Makes (no) sense.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:14 PM
He has the tendency for being trigger happy with the whistle.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:15 PM
He’s a great guy to have off the bench. But, he is definitely not an everyday player. When he gets hot a couple of times a year, he is worth playing every day for 7-10 games straight. Then, back to the bench.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:15 PM
No. I still have to pull for Ubaldo. He MUST get better and more consistent. Has Gomez really pitched that well? I haven’t seen any of his starts. Just figure they need another arm. It’s discouraging that they don’t have any hotshot corner outfielders in the system at all. But not many teams do. Knapp=Adam Miller? Question, I mentioned it earlier in this post. I just don’t really remember. Did the Tribe have a chance at Drabek but did the Phills play hardball and the Tribe settled for a package of prospects?
May 11th, 2012 at 10:17 PM
Wally, just busting balls on Duncan. I remember watching him a lot for the Yankees and still find it funny everytime he starts in the outfield for the Tribe
May 11th, 2012 at 10:21 PM
Afraid so. At least looks that way now.
I don’t the Tribe was as high on Drabek as some were. Not sure whether they could have or not.
I just hated the Ubaldo trade because you don’t trade your 2 best pitching prospects for someone unless they are a sure thing. Jimenez was far from that as his decline has already started. They got ripped off. It doesn’t matter if either White or Pomeranz becomes good or not. Their potential last year was unreal and they could have gotten the bats that they need for 1 of them. Instead? We got a one year wonder.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:21 PM
He’s not that bad. Streaky. Not an everyday player. But he can rake at times. The Indians could do much worse. I know Damon i great in the clubhouse n shit. But I may have preferred Vladdy G or Abreu.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Shit, both of those guys make Damon look like Clemente in the outfield. Tribe didn’t sign Vladdy specifically because he cannot play the field.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:27 PM
I remember flipping out when it went down. Just couldn’t believe it. Then slowly convincing myself it could work out after reading a bunch of shit. Hopefully Dillon Howard is the real deal. Is Droobs a long term SS with Lindor a couple years away? Or am I gonna have to weep when another of my beloved Indians is dealt for unproven players.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:31 PM
I think Lindor may unseat Droobs and send him to 2B. Kipnis to the OF potentially in the situation as long as Lonnie works at 3B.
Lindor looks like the real deal. Sounds like he’s headed to high A ball shortly, because he is just destroying it right now.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:33 PM
Man, what If the Tribe had sent Chiz and White to the Mets for Wright. I would be feeling much better about that instead of the Ubaldo debacle. Was that a possibility?
May 11th, 2012 at 10:36 PM
I knew they were sniffing for Wright. Yes, he would look damn good at 3B right now. Hanny could be at 1B. Pomeranz would be starting in U’s spot. Yep, love that idea.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:37 PM
Sucks that the rain delay took away the Wilson/Darvish matchup. Rangers lighting up Jerome Williams in the resumed bottom of the 1st.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:41 PM
I know. What’s the deal with Sipp? That ERA is atrocious. I remember Gammons singing sweet nothings about his ability a couple seasons ago. I like the depth the Tribe have at catcher in the system so eventually Smooth will become the 1B right? But for now, they need someone. 1B and LF seem to be real albatrosses.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:44 PM
Sipp hasn’t been bad. The ERA is brutal because of 2 early games. He’s been pretty solid otherwise.
Smooth has gotten a ton better at C this year. But, I’d hate to see his knees go from catching. His bat scares me though. Not sure that he’s as great as many make him out to be. I expected him to be VMart, but he’s not close right now. He’s patient though, so I have faith that he’ll get better.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:48 PM
V Mart is such an amazing hitter. The Tigers really miss him in the lineup. That offense will be scary in 2013 with Prince, Miggy and Victory. The rest of that lineup is pretty meh.
May 11th, 2012 at 10:49 PM
Blake getting his hustle on. Somehow, LA is within 2. Clippers have been awful, Gasol has been unstoppable
May 11th, 2012 at 10:54 PM
Randolph is lightin’ Griffin up. Grizz gotta keep getting the ball down low.
May 11th, 2012 at 11:08 PM
Damon sucks. Why no pinch hit for Duncan? Go Athletics!
May 11th, 2012 at 11:31 PM
Josh Hamilton with two more homeruns. Beast
