Boise State May Reject Big East to Stay in Mountain West
CBS Sports’ Brett McMurphy is reporting Boise State may rethink its plan to join the Big East in 2013. The Broncos have not notified the MWC of their intent officially, though not joining the Big East would force them to hand over a $5 million buyout fee. That would hurt, but it might be worth it.
Boise State can’t afford to join the Big East as a full member, and a WAC implosion makes it far more difficult to place their non-revenue sports. The MWC will not let Boise stay without football.
The Big East is also becoming less attractive. The new TV deal, divided about 173 ways, might not be the boon that was expected. The next postseason arrangement could leave the conference without privileged access and revenue. Boise’s non-revenue programs would be worse off and the football team might not be in a much better position than it was in the MWC.
Moreover, the Big East is unstable. West Virginia, Syracuse and Pittsburgh just left. TCU backed out. Louisville has informed the conference it wants to leave. UConn probably would like to do the same. Joining would hitch Boise State to that mess and saddle the school with a 27-month refractory period and a $10 million buyout. That might preclude Boise State say joining the Big 12 should the conference expand itself into a multi-regional death star.

Now that AQ status is no more, I don’t think it makes sense for Boise to go to the Big East. The league sucks to the point where they might as well stay where they’re a geographical fit and they won’t have to worry about the Big East imploding as it looks like it will do sooner rather than later.

Fucking basketball schools are fucking this shit up. Fuck.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:09 PM
Damn, I was hoping for another NBA post.

Just ban college football!
May 11th, 2012 at 1:11 PM
How did Ken Dorsey get drafted (7th round) and not Kellen Moore?
May 11th, 2012 at 1:12 PM
Bills sign Vince Young to 1 yr deal.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:12 PM
Because Ken Dorsey throws like a grown woman, not a 12-year-old girl.

Shut your whore mouth. Kellen is Staffdaddys future backup.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:14 PM
So if he was drafted in the NFC South would the Saints forfeit twice a year?
May 11th, 2012 at 1:14 PM
Best QB on their roster.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:16 PM
He’ll learn to keep his shirt on in the winter.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:16 PM
No chance. Kid was a great college QB (with NFL wide receivers). But, guys with noodle arms are insulted by being compared to Moore. I’m not sure that he can throw a 12 yard out.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
Why say shit like this? I thought you were a lions fan.

This is what cracks me up. CFB people (like Stewart Mandel) opine that it’s a travesty that Moore was undrafted. They ask why, and when you respond, “because he can’t make NFL throws,” they scoff and ask what that means. Hey Mandel (whom I like) the hash marks aren’t the same, so certain throws are much different. When you can’t get the ball to the sideline with pace, you end up with a pick-6 the other way.

Pfffft

Throws from his 33 yard line to the opposing 11 yard line.

The capitalization brings it to a whole new level.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:25 PM
is vince young going to get his own post.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:27 PM
You mean the running start he had and the air under the ball got it there? I’m talking 3-5 step drop, back foot plants and the ball is gone to the sideline. I can throw a football 50 yards…provided I can take 3-5 steps forward and put air under it.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:28 PM
Mandel does this with every big time college star. The best was when he crowed about San Francisco finally realizing what they had in Troy Smith after he beat the Broncos in London.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:28 PM
Oh my, laughing my ass off. Potato tears indeed.

In pads, against a rush with no time left in the game and split the corner and safety.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:29 PM
Almost threw up reading Mandel’s write-up on how Moore will shock in the NFL. Uh, just because a guy racked up a ton of wins in college does not mean he will find any sort of success in the pros*. Moore’s arm is beyond weak, start comparing him to other qb’s with noodle arms, not just guys who are short.
*See Colt McCoy, David Greene

Stafford is surrounded by so many amazing weapons. All 1st and 2nd round picks. I’m curious. Does any other QB have that?
May 11th, 2012 at 1:32 PM
Did Stafford split your sister’s snatch or something Vlad? Jesus.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:32 PM
If Ty Detmer can lead a team to the playoffs, so can Kellen Moore.
Ok, maybe not…
May 11th, 2012 at 1:33 PM
Exactly. I don’t get it.
I love how much you hate him. It’s completely nonsensical, but I love it nonetheless.
He had a decent pocket and had enough room to run…literally run…5 3-4 yards before he threw it. That isn’t arm strength. Yes, his accuracy is amazing, but when Chad Pennington laughs at your arm, you’ve got a problem. That doesn’t mean what he did at BSU should be diminished. It just means he’s not an NFL QB. No harm in that.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:34 PM
What? I just brought up that Stafford has a lot of talent around him after seeing Titus lay out for that ball.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:34 PM
Alex Smith?
May 11th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
Alex Smith will this year…
3 1st round WR, #6 overall TE, Pro Bowl RB, and LaMichael James/Kendall hunter RB
May 11th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
You’re right, you’ve never brought up Stafford being overrated before.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:36 PM
If it’s any solace, Jordan Jefferson did not get drafted, then got signed and cut by Tampa Bay in less time than it took Bama to turn him into a deer in the headlights.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:36 PM
Dont understand why they think they’re climbing some sort of ladder by jumping from one shit league to another. The MWC isn’t really any better now (no Utah, no TCU) than the WAC was when Idaho CC was there.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:36 PM
People always fail to see that arm strength doesn’t mean the deep ball. Matt Ryan can throw the ball 60+ yards easy. The problem is he needs a lot of air under the ball. The difference between Ryan and Rodgers & Stafford is how little air they need to get the ball where it needs to be.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:36 PM
This again? I can’t believe how in love with him you are.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:37 PM
Also, Mark Sanchez.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:38 PM
Jamarcuss Russell had a cannon if you want to bring up Wuerffel.
Here’s Montana making the same pass (he did it better but he’s a hall of famer)
May 11th, 2012 at 1:39 PM
Really? Imagine if you had a QB who led your team to the Sugar Bowl, went No. 1 in the Draft and was throwing for 5,000 yards in his first full season. Pretty sure you’d be a fan.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:39 PM
See comment 37 for why you’re wrong on this.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:40 PM
Holmes, Keller, ???
May 11th, 2012 at 1:40 PM
So a system QB can hit the same throw that Moore hit, BFD.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:40 PM
Agreed but if he’s running a west coast office who cares?
May 11th, 2012 at 1:41 PM

May 11th, 2012 at 1:41 PM
Planted foot.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:42 PM
Seriously? Comparing Joe Montana to Kellen Moore? Joe may not be known for his arm strength but he wasn’t a noodle-armed lesbian like Moore.
GTFO with that nonsense.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:42 PM
Because no matter what the system is, you have to be able to throw the sideline routes.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:42 PM
I’m a fan of him as well. You’re an apologist and fan boy. Nothing wrong with that. Doesn’t make me a hater cause I have higher expectations for a QB that got 50 million guaranteed and has been surrounded by 1st and 2nd round talent. If he throws for 4500 yards, cuts down on the INTs and goes back to the playoffs you won’t hear me complaining.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:43 PM
This is great, because the guy’s a dickhead
May 11th, 2012 at 1:43 PM
Shonne Green 2nd. Brick and Mangold were 1sts. Unless were are only considering Skill players? Burress/Edwards (when they had them) were top 10 picks.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:43 PM
The west coast only works if the threat of the deep ball is there…otherwise you’re left with those Bear teams quarterbacked by Shane Matthews (I’m going to try and bring up one shitty Gator NFL QB in every comment, you’re on notice Doug Johnson)
May 11th, 2012 at 1:44 PM
Probably a good projection of Moore’s future career. Nobody will care about his arm strength then, you’re right.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:44 PM
My mistake, Greene was the 3rd round.

May 11th, 2012 at 1:47 PM
Wow. Dude threw for more than 5,000 yards, 41 TDs, 16 INTs and a rating of 97+. You have INSANE expectations of this isn’t doing it for you.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:47 PM
Could be here for a while.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:48 PM
Didn’t check the Lions QB depth chart, but Moore can’t be a lock to make the roster, right?
May 11th, 2012 at 1:48 PM
Potato Poly Tech needs to stay right where its at in the MWC and just keep doing what its doing. Even a 4 teamer leaves plenty of room for them to be included.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:48 PM
Greene was 3rd Round. I wasn’t counting linemen but we probably should since they give him all that time to find an opponent to throw the ball at.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:49 PM
I think I read somewhere that, in SDSU’s deal, the buyout goes down to $1 million if the Big East loses BCS automatic qualifier status. Not sure if Boise has the same clause in their deal.

May 11th, 2012 at 1:49 PM
He’s not making that roster.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:50 PM
This is why I’m nervous going in to the 201 mseason. Andy Dalton throws darts, but his deep ball might be the worst out of every starting QB in the league.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:50 PM
201 mseason = 2012 season.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:50 PM
I don’t give a shit about stats if he’s gonna come up short in games against the 49ers and Falcons like he did last year.
Lions don’t have a third string QB. Stanton left. It will be Zach Robinson or Kellen Moore.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:51 PM
Right now they only have Stafford, Moore, and Shaun Hill.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:51 PM
/ring
Like Husker is saying it’s not just about how far you can throw. It’s how quick you can make the right throws. Also even if you have the ideal arm, your footwork and decision making and pcket presence have to be on point to be a successful QB in the league.
Brady’s arm was not all that special when he first came into the NFL but because those other skill sets were so good it made up for it. He actually developed a strong arm as the years went on.
May 11th, 2012 at 1:51 PM
How much is that duck worth?
May 11th, 2012 at 1:53 PM
Yeah. Right now. Talk to me in September when Moore is backing up some team in the UFL.

May 11th, 2012 at 2:02 PM
I think Jeff Garcia banging Carmella Decesare and marrying her has to be the biggest upset in the history of life.
MOST CERTAINLY NSFW…but worth the risk.
May 11th, 2012 at 2:22 PM
It’s not the same at all. Here’s a rough breakdown:
Kellen Moore – Drops back to the 28 yd line, runs forward to the 33. Releases the ball @ 0:13 and catch is made @ 0:16. The ball traveled to the 11 yd line.
Joe Montana – Drops back to the 36, strides forward to the 37/37.5 yd line. Released at 0:09 and caught @ 0:12. Ball caught on the 9 yd line.
So Kellen runs forward for 5 yds in his windup, the ball hangs ~3 seconds in the air and it travels 56 yards. And Joe (who isn’t known as a strong armed QB) only strides about a yard and does not transfer his weight into the throw, the ball still hangs for ~3 seconds and travels 54 yards. Both throws were completely on the money, but one required extreme effort and a long run to accomplish, while the other was done completely within normal effort and thrown on balance.
Not the same.
