Josh Hamilton Hit Four Homers Against the Orioles, and Here’s Video of All of Them
Josh Hamilton vs. the Orioles: 5-for-5, four runs scored, four homers, eight RBI. Hamilton now has more homers than the Padres this season (14-12). Go get that new contract, Josh. Regardless of relapses, there’s no way the Rangers can’t back up the brinks for Hamilton.

Yardwork!

yardwork? wait, no Hernia? not yardwork!
May 9th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Josh Hamilton is pretty good at this baseball thing.
May 9th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Embedded video! It’s a miracle!
May 9th, 2012 at 9:47 AM
I wouldn’t give him more than a 4 year deal. He’s a very good player when he’s healthy. He’s not going to get any better at this point in his career though. Sentimentality will be a pretty big chip for his agent this winter when negotiating with Texas.
May 9th, 2012 at 9:47 AM
Texas won 10-3, can hardly call that a win.
May 9th, 2012 at 9:51 AM
I am reading he will be extended during the season. Go see him person. Watching his defense is as awesome as watching him bat.
May 9th, 2012 at 9:52 AM
So when is Bobby Valentine going to learn how to manage his pitching staff in a close ballgame?
May 9th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
I heard out of high school Josh could hit the mid 90s with his fastball. It’s always the most gifted who are most troubled. That team is loaded. Elvis is coming into his own as well. His WAR may be around 4 or 5 by the end of the year.
May 9th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
Billy Butler also hit a home run off some turd reliever in the 8th for the 6-4 Royals win!
/waves at CJ
May 9th, 2012 at 9:58 AM
Ah, that turd has a name, and it’s Fat Albert(ers).
May 9th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Chris Perez is pretty bad.
May 9th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
So anybody think Josh would be approaching the ‘GOAT’ status had he not had to deal with all those demons early in his career and to a certain extent, still dealing with? Or do you think going through all that has made him more focused and a better player as opposed to just coasting on his talent? Does Bryce Harper, at his age, compare to Hamilton at all?
/Sorry for all the questions
//Still mad the Reds traded him for Edinson Volquez and Danny Herrera.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
He may not of reached GOAT status, but he would be damn close to cementing his spot in the HOF.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:04 AM
Don’t feel too bad. The Reds got him for $100K from the Cubs after the Rule 5 Draft.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
Ah yes, rich successful white folk speak for “smack.”
May 9th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
Shove it. I’m still mad the Tribe traded CC to the Brewers and not the Dodgers. Matt Kemp would’ve been a hell lot better than Michael Brantley and Matt LaPorta.
/Allegedly
May 9th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
Josh Hamilton has the most insane bat speed that I’ve seen. He might be faster than Sheffield was in his prime.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:06 AM
No kidding
May 9th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
C’mon Vladdy. LaPorta is having a helluva a career… in Columbus.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
Texas is good at baseball. They are first in the AL in AVG (20 points), OBP (9 points), and SLG (13 points). They are second in ERA (off by 0.04), fourth in K (off by 12), and first in BB (by 3).
I like the chances for the White Sox to salvage a split in Cleveland today with Peavy on the mound, after losing the first two and winning last night. In addition, the following White Sox hitters can go get fucked: anyone not named Konerko, Dunn, Rios, de Aza, or Pierzynski.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
when is Bobby Valentine going to learn how to manage his pitching staff in a close ballgame?
*Ignoring any/all Sox talk for a few days
He might be faster than Sheffield was in his prime.
I scoffed when I read this, but it may actually be true
May 9th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
De Aza can DIAF. That prick only hits against Cleveland. He’s a sorry ass baseball player the other 140 games a year.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
Hero.

what happened to the duplicate post? I finally had something cheeky and fun to say, and they pulled the article on me.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
How many balks did Bard have in that 5th inning? 3? Valentine is fucking that kid over something fierce. This is the 2nd time he’s left him in past his expiration date. Kid should have been done after 7 innings.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
how about the philles chugging along in last place??
May 9th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Josh Hamilton hit four home runs last night. Josh Hamilton hit four home runs last night. Josh Hamilton hit four home runs last night. Josh Hamilton hit four home runs last night. What a cock. Have you seen his splits? Stupid.
.390/.457/.622 career against Tribe
.280/.343/.422 career totals
15 RBI in 23 games against Tribe
30 RBI in 147 games against every else.
Seriously, fuck De Aza. Sack of shit.

/Josh Hamilton hit 4 HR’s last night
May 9th, 2012 at 10:17 AM
I have to agree with Dennis and Callahan this morning. If Hamilton hits the open market then Theo and the Duke are going to have a bidding war on this guy. I wouldn’t be shocked with a short contract (4-5 years) with around $25-30 mill per. Texas should not let him hit the market. For Hamilton’s sake though, he should stay away from the large cities like Chicago.

May 9th, 2012 at 10:20 AM
If he wants to win and stay away from pressure, stay in Texas. Team is loaded and it’s not a big time city. All he needs to do is look at Pujols
who is down to .190 now
May 9th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
I was laughed at when I made this argument last week. I didn’t say Hamilton specifically, but free agents in general.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Link?
May 9th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
how about the philles chugging along in last place??
Combine that with the red sox and cubs making the same trip, the world is definitely a better place.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
Not really. He had 80 something pitches after 7. Now, someone should have been warm and ready to come in after the first guy got on. But this time I really dont think Bobby did anything wrong. Besides trusting Albers and Padilla wayyy too much.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
O’s are wearing great caps in that clip, so they got that going for them.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
the rangers can just say, “No,” to a brittle player with baggage. that’s awesome that josh won a game for them. i am more concerned about the three he missed last week with a stiff back. bad organizations give 32-year-olds big contracts. i don’t believe the rangers are one of those organizations.
is the pujols deal working out? werth? soriano? mauer? crawford? howard?
May 9th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
Kid should have been done after 7 innings.
He gave up 2 hits in the 7th but they were looking too much at pitch counts. All I heard was he had only threw 86 pitches but the type of pitches are important also. If they are high stressed (men on base) then he needs to be done. After the 1st BB he should have been pulled. Also this is on Bard also. He looses focus and needs to rely on all his pitches and when throw a FB he needs to move it up/down and in/out on hitters changing the line of site on a hitter.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
As a baseball traditionalist, I agree.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:26 AM

Holy shit I didn’t realize Hamilton was already thirty.

EIC decision. Didn’t want to upstaged by Yardwork.

I agree. Texas is a great team and Hamilton doesn’t need to be “the man” and carry the team and put butts in the seats.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
i see Hamilton asking for 4 years and alot of money than a long drawn out contract of 6 or 7 years
plus you have to realize losing Hamilton will hurt Texas.
who will they sign or plug in?
Michael Bourn? B.J. Upton? Victorino?Ethier?
May 9th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
Michael Young doesn’t get near enough credit
May 9th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
DFW isn’t exactly tiny.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
96 pitches. 4 for swings and misses. Bobby has to monitor more than just how many pitches the kid throws, but how effective the results on those pitches are. Bard is a strikeout pitcher. He wasn’t striking anyone out last night. He was lucky to make it through 6 innings with only the 3 ER the way he was throwing the ball. He barely got out of the 7th and if it’s not for Frenchy making a terrible baserunning decision on the ground ball to 1st, that game is tied at 4 after 7.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
hell Robert Adino is havin a better year than Pujols
May 9th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
I think a lot of it is lack of trust in the bullpen.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
who was almost traded last year to Colorado for Eric Young Jr
May 9th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
but it’s not the same as playing in New York, Chicago, L.A, Philly
May 9th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
Me too. Which I why I continue to say that they need to either move Bard back to that bullpen to bolster it or find external relief help. Bard’s ERA in the first 5 innings of his starts is actually pretty decent. After the 6th, he falls apart. I understand not wanting to Joba the kid, but I think you’ll have a more effective bullpen with Bard in it.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:35 AM

As a baseball traditionalist, I agree.
Yeah I agree too. Atlanta will likely pick up McCann’s $12M next year but after that, at 30 he’ll be in the $100M/5 yr range. As much as I like him, I’m not sure how I feel about $100M. $70-80M/5 yr – sure.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
Totally, not to mention those guys just pitched 13 innings 2 days ago
May 9th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
i wouldn’t even do four years for josh. yeah, losing him will hurt a little, but he isn’t getting better. you have already had him for his prime years. he isn’t going to match this production again. don’t pay for past performances or sentimentality. texas is an unbelievably strong organization. just use him up this season and move one. let someone else make the mistake.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
Good point, and they didn’t bring anyone up from Pawtucket.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
If Pujols keeps going at this rate and gets voted in at the all star game…wow
what a joke
May 9th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
I hear they’re gonna pick up a stud around the All Star break
/his name is Andrew Bailey
May 9th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
but you could always put him at DH, which will save on the wear and tear of the Of and being in the Texas heat
May 9th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
This would be awesome. Especially since the game is in KC this year.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Michael Young is one of the absolute worst fielders in baseball. It is almost comical.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
most people expected cubs to be in last though or close to
Yeah – but it’s nice that we don’t have to listen to those insufferable jackasses.
Oh, oops – we still do. Losing is their thing.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
96 pitches
86 after 7 and gave up 2 singles in that half of the inning. You can send him out but after the 1st BB he needs to be taken out. Bard had settled down but he also had issued 2 balks, a WP, and 2 BB before the 8th inning melt down. Whats the point of having an 8th inning guy and a closer if you aren’t going to use them. Your closer should be able to go 2 innings on occasion anyways. The poing being he can go out there but if a player gets on, he is gone.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
So overpay for a DH? One of Hamilton’s main strengths is his defense. Take that out of the equation and his value falls even further.
look, i love hamilton. but mega-deals are dead. they generally never work. just say no.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
that’s why he’s pretty much the dh now since they got Beltre at 3rd
May 9th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
did anyone see the running backs post lisk did yesterday? it had a 1215 time stamp. i know it wasn;t there during the day, and me and stark found it on tblad last night. go back to tomorrow about that time if you like lisk’s analytic NFL stuff
May 9th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
They said the same thing after Jeter, Manny, and then ARod got their huge contracts. Look what happened a few years later.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
Michael Young is one of the absolute worst fielders in baseball. It is almost comical.

yeah, but he still plays in the field two or three times a week (usually second or first) to stay “engaged.” Not a Young fan.

Well, I meant for “smart” teams. Yes, there will always be dumb owners and front offices.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
Yeah, but pretty much every reliever just went 2 innings on Sunday. Things probably would have been handled differently otherwise.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
Not a Young fan.
Send him to the Sox. Jeez. You sound like Yankee fans. I’ll take Young everyday of the week.

re: Fielding %
He sucks at 3rd, but decent at other positions. 2nd being his best

Harper, Trout, Stanton, Starlin Castro will be getting these mega deals. They are not dead.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:51 AM

May 9th, 2012 at 10:55 AM
Send him to the Sox. Jeez. You sound like Yankee fans. I’ll take Young everyday of the week.
If you saw him every day, you wouldn’t be as thrilled. No defense, no walks, average-to-OK power. He’s a volume AB player and a leader of convenience. I’d rather have Adam Dunn, especially in The Ballpark.
May 9th, 2012 at 10:55 AM
“Senyor” – not sure how the post went up. It is going up today.
Before dark?
May 9th, 2012 at 10:57 AM

!
If you say so. Maybe I haven’t seen him enough. I’ve just always been impressed.
May 9th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Harper, Trout, Stanton, Starlin Castro will be getting these mega deals. They are not dead.
I’m sure you’re right. And in rare cases, they can be OK. But they’d best be avoided, like handguns for self-defense.
May 9th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Harper, Trout, Stanton, Starlin Castro
yes, for young guys, not for 30+
May 9th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
I would sign Hamilton for 4 years. I am in no way objective. It does seem like the Rangers’ offense struggles if Hamilton or Beltre are out of the lineup. One of the silent rich owners said the Rangers didn’t pursue Fielder because they wanted to keep Josh.
May 9th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
I would bet that the Lisk running back post goes up at 12:15pm Eastern
May 9th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
sure, tats, four years is fine, just not for 20+milldo each
May 9th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
Agreed. Giving Howard $125 mil over 5 years when he’s 32 = dumb
Giving Trout say, $180 mil when he’s 23 = smart.
May 9th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
That Howard deal was laughable the moment it was signed. Looks even worse now.
May 9th, 2012 at 11:21 AM
let’s first make sure trout isn’t the next brandon wood …
May 9th, 2012 at 11:40 AM
Fielding percentage only tells half the story. You have to include range as well when talking about Michael Young. UZR better represents what he does. And his numbers are bad. If we lose Hamilton, there are other players like Leonys Martin who can come up and take up the slack. We’ve had Josh the past 2 years and didn’t win the WS. Plus I think players like Justin Upton and Carlos Gonzalez from Colorado are going to be available.
