Golf Hall of Fame Inductees Peter Alliss and Dan Jenkins Use Their Press Conference to Bash Tiger Woods
Peter Alliss and Dan Jenkins were recently inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. During their press conference, the two inductees took the opportunity to skewer Tiger Woods. From Golf Digest:
“I do not understand the thinking of Tiger Woods,” Alliss said. “I think his golfing brain, for some reason or other, is completely addled.
“Perhaps the good part of his brain for a period drained from here, down to here,” Alliss said, motioning from his head to his groin. “And that caused him great distress, probably a modicum of enjoyment at the time. But he’s gone.”
Alliss also knows the cure to what ails Tiger’s Major-less streak.
“I’m not saying I’m a great teaching guru, but I’d love to have about a half an hour [with Woods]. If he couldn’t be put right in an hour, I’d go home and stick my head in a bucket of ice water, because it’s so simple. You stand and you swing.”
Jenkins did have as much material on Tiger, but had more finality in his criticism.
Asked if he believed Woods will win another five majors and pass Nicklaus’ record, Jenkins didn’t hesitate.
“No,” he said. “Next question.”
Alliss does commentary for the BBC and played in eight Ryder Cups. Jenkins wrote for Sports Illustrated and Golf Digest. [Golf Channel]

I love all of the writers and broadcasters ripping Tiger. They quickly forget that thanks to him they’re making so much more money than they would have without him and they were all trying to suck his dick 5 years ago.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:02 PM
I love it when people say this. Everyone thinks they can “cure” Tiger. Shut the fuck up.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:04 PM
I’d like to hit the town with Tiger. He learned how to swing from Jordan and Barkely. Has to fun until you end up at Dennys.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:05 PM
Oh so that’s what I’m doing wrong.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:05 PM
Right. Simple.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:05 PM
Was he supposed too say yes? Because the answer is no
May 8th, 2012 at 3:06 PM
Ha! So true. If it were that simple I wouldn’t have bookended a solid front 9 with two god damn 8s.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:06 PM
Great fucking insight you limey cunt.

+ 1 Subway Chicken Wrap.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:10 PM
it’s a lot more simple than golf mag instruction makes it out to be. also, if it weren’t IMPOSSIBLE, how could people charge thousands of dollars per hour for instruction? THINK OF THEIR INCOMES DAMNIT.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:12 PM
also, how could you leave out alliss’ AWESOME quotes?
May 8th, 2012 at 3:13 PM
Tiger will break the majors record. Not a doubt in my mind.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:14 PM
I had a snowman on my card yesterday. 3 pars and a fucking snowman before the round was cancelled because of weather. Really pissed me off.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:14 PM
the plural of snowman is snowmen.
/the more you know
May 8th, 2012 at 3:17 PM
Tell me again how this is considered bashing Tiger?

May 8th, 2012 at 3:26 PM
The Falcons one looks an Abercrombie logo.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:27 PM
The only one that I really didn’t like was St. Louis.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:27 PM
Some winners in there. New England, Miami, San Diego, Cleveland, Chicago.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:28 PM
not sure what you mean…jenkins is the greatest writer in golf history, phil is a top 25 all time golfer, peter alliss is legendary across the pond and sandy lyle is the first LIVING scot to be inducted.
tho it’s funny because the HOF has very low standards…it’s just this year’s class all deserve it (well…not sure if hollis stacy deserves it. never heard of her).
May 8th, 2012 at 3:28 PM
They do that on projectphantom.com too. Buddy does it himself.
Gonna try to link…
May 8th, 2012 at 3:29 PM
I do agree that players now dont give a shit if tiger makes a move on saturday while behind like they did 1997-2007. but to say tiger has lost it is a little premature.

Oklahoma Joe’s BBQ
In the house: Jenny Dell, reporter of the New England Sports Network’s Red Sox Nation. Jenny and her crew were here to tape a feature and sample some Kansas City barbecue. The Red Sox are here to kick our butts.
The Royals. Even the best BBQ joint in town knows they are losers.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:29 PM
Good gosh, how do you link?
May 8th, 2012 at 3:30 PM
Nailed it.

Anything that changes Miami from having the tard Dolphin with his SPED helmet is an improvement.

Agreed. He is really talented. Did all the banner/artwork for UT Baseball this year too. They did all the artwork on The Rock for TN gamedays

the Packers cheesehead one is lame as shit.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:50 PM
Can he block or play defense? If so he could really help out Doolander. I love how Sporting News put him 14th in their rankings of SEC coaches. Even better that Boob Chizik was 8th (maybe 7th).
May 8th, 2012 at 3:50 PM
4th in total driving, 2nd in scoring average and 18th in putts gained this year.
also: bitched out at Augusta and body-slammed by Phil at Pebble.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:51 PM
You guys suck at linking. Can’t see the logos. Tell me, is the Browns logo a steaming pile of duke?
/also, golf and Frank Zappa suck
May 8th, 2012 at 3:51 PM
you know, im less depressed by tiger’s performance at augusta than rory’s. at least tiger had an excuse, his swing was just OFF…rory didn’t have any excuses for his shitty play.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:52 PM
I liked in the SI Golf piece on Jenkins where they got in their shot at Rick Reilly.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:52 PM
That’s not a bad suggestion either.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:52 PM
Can he block or play defense?
Probably
/probably not

I think Highland Blue is open finally. I’m ready to throw a personal best up. Didnt have time for a round last week but had a killer range session.

May 8th, 2012 at 3:54 PM
Ooh. The Browns logo is awesome. But the 49er one sucks. Don’t mess with perfection. Also, the Giants logo sucks too.

too bad NFL wouldn;t let him, but shirts and hats are in order
May 8th, 2012 at 3:57 PM
jenkins/reilly shot:
May 8th, 2012 at 3:57 PM
I like the blue course for convenience. Plus, I don’t need to savage myself at Tanglewood until I know my long game’s there. I don’t need to waste 6 hours looking for my drives at Tanglewood only to see it’s 1 foot off the fairway b/c their rough is mis-managed.
May 8th, 2012 at 3:59 PM
Didnt Butch Harmon basically say the same thing about a month ago. Tiger is overthinking his swing and just needs to go out there and hit the ball like he knows how to do?
Really like the Jets logo with the NY as a jet. Even like the Cowboys
May 8th, 2012 at 3:59 PM
What makes that funny, is Reilly _ALWAYS_ goes to that and says how ’86 was too big a story to write blah blah blah. He beats that into the ground. So that was his old-SI editor (who wrote the Jenkins piece) getting that jab in on Ricky Rick. Loved it.
May 8th, 2012 at 4:00 PM
Here is my favorite Jenkins story, which encapsulates the man. At the ’86 Masters, after Jack Nicklaus’s stunning comeback, Rick Reilly, sitting next to Dan, said, “Wow, have you ever had a story that’s too big to write?” Without looking up from his typewriter, Dan said, “No.”
reminds me of the story of the young and peppy reporter covering the cubs. something crazy happened in the game and the kid breathlessly says to herman franks, ‘Have you ever seen anything like that?!’
franks spits, and says ‘son, i seen a monkey fucking a camel’
/i’ve told this like 17 times in my years here
May 8th, 2012 at 4:01 PM
I wasn’t a fan of those logos en masse. Very talented for sure, but the beauty of the logos in real life is a contrast of styles. This was one style beaten into the ground.
May 8th, 2012 at 4:01 PM
i hear you…tanglewood’s tough if you’re not playing well off the tee. but holy shit is it fun when you’re swinging well.
/82 from the tips sunday…didn’t lose a ball
//between last fall and this early spring, i lost 3 balls on 3 separate occasions on striped drives on 17 (the hole along 306) that should’ve been in the fairway or just off…pissed me off something fierce
May 8th, 2012 at 4:03 PM
but that’s EXACTLY why he needs to change…he wasn’t hitting the ball well after six-plus years with haney. and THAT’S what he’d be falling back on…that’s the best idea?
May 8th, 2012 at 4:03 PM
‘Have you ever seen anything like that?!’
franks spits, and says ‘son, i seen a monkey fucking a camel’
/sprayed some coke out of mouth onto my keyboard.

Either I’ve been banned or you sonsofbitches are ignoring me because I’m being annoying. Since it can’t be the latter, I’m assuming it’s the former. Let me shoot Hernia’s fat ass an e-mail right quick……

Is Butch Harmon the black guy from the Mod Squad?
May 8th, 2012 at 4:04 PM
i think that’s mark harmon, actually.
May 8th, 2012 at 4:06 PM
That’s a good score at Tanglewood. I’m ready to do some damage, got the practice time in just need to get on the course. I had a really good round at Tanglewooed sullied by 2 lost drives on 17 last year. I think there’s wind there right-to-left. That green is pedestrian so I’ve alrady decided to alter how I play that hole if I dont feel great off the tee.
May 8th, 2012 at 4:07 PM
Tiger will be fine. I think if we get past next year’s US Open and things havent changed, then worry. It took him 2 years to get in a groove w/ Butch and Hank, really.
And I am pretty critical of Eldrick but I think he’ll be fine. He’ll never be what he once was, nor is he an intimidator, but he’ll still win a decent amount.
May 8th, 2012 at 4:09 PM
i think that’s mark harmon, actually.
Perfect excuse to link to this.
May 8th, 2012 at 4:11 PM
Wait, I’ve got it! It’s Butch Davis.
/that was a line from The Simpsons, BTW. I know Kevin Kline was the black guy from the Mod Squad……
May 8th, 2012 at 4:12 PM
much appreciated…i had a bad couple of weeks, but last weekend was really swinging well.
17′s green there is so flat and easy, if you’re not comfortable with hitting a driver right to left, you could almost hit (from the back tees) 5i to where the hole starts to bend, 5i to the flat part in front of the creek and then just pitch from there for par.
also, it’s hysterical how much easier 18 is from the white tees compared to the blues. i decided i’d just play 18 from the whites since i didn’t feel like adding an extra 120 yards onto the hole as i had hit my hybrid enough for one day.
May 8th, 2012 at 4:13 PM
sums my thoughts up.
May 8th, 2012 at 4:22 PM
Buncha Ranger Ricks’ up in here…
May 8th, 2012 at 4:22 PM
Yeah its like 90-120 yards different based on where they do the tees.
May 8th, 2012 at 4:24 PM
that hole really fits my eye off the tee, but i haven’t had much success there…probably because, when it’s wet, cold and windy, a flushed drive still leaves you with a 240 yard shot that’s uphill the whole way. tho from the white tees in great weather? driver, lob wedge, par. felt great afterwards! nice change of pace from the usual.
