Chris Paul, Mr. Clutch, Has Clippers on Verge of 3rd Playoff Series Win in Franchise History
Chris Paul was dynamic down the stretch, scoring eight of LA’s 12 points in overtime and the Clippers took a 3-1 lead in the series. Off the cuff …
* Total points in the series: Memphis 386, LA Clippers 385.
* Marc Gasol, for whatever reason, is being criminally underused by the Grizzlies. He’s getting pushed around by Blake Griffin! Gasol didn’t make a basket until overtime.
* DeAndre Jordan, whom the Clippers paid handsomely for last summer, has been worthless in the series. He can’t get on the floor in the 4th quarter. Reggie Evans has been more of a factor.
* Blake Griffin scored 30 points before fouling out in overtime. He’s also not backing down from Zach Randolph.
* Even at 3-1, this doesn’t feel over. We’re talking about a franchise that has won just three playoff series since 1976. They could easily get stomped in game five, and then lose a close game six. That wouldn’t surprise me at all.
* Not sure why this columnist is targeting Rudy Gay as the problem for Memphis (even though he takes jabs at everyone else who has been a disappointment, Gay is his focus). “As a noted philosopher once said, with great riches comes great pressure to at least get your team out of the first round of the playoffs. Right now, Gay is failing at the task.” They’ve got three losses by a total of six points. It’s not on Gay. It’s not totally on Lionel Hollins, either. Or Zach Randolph. Or Tony Allen (the last two don’t seem to be 100 percent).

He’s not a big Gay guy.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
i hope the wake is a wild rumpus
May 8th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
I like Chris Webber doing games…brings a different perspective. He’s not dynamic, but I don’t need screaming.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
dear j-mac – please just watch first take cold pizza whatever and tell me its not blatanly racist. holy shit look at crawford’s face.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
2010.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:13 AM
Can you just please explain what it is that offended you so much? You keep vaguely referring to this whole thing. Out with it! Let’s go!

Sheen – you couldn’t pay me to watch that drivel.
GRIZZLIES FANS WHERE ARE YOU COWARDS

Is Crawford wearing black face? Because I’ll tune in for that

I know some people don’t like Jason’s blogging style, but why in the world would you beg him to watch that shit? He is busy enough trying to keep Tim Ryan from motorboating the secretary.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Spurs-Clippers and Lakers-Thunder will make for awesome Western Conference Semis.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
low seven figures?
May 8th, 2012 at 11:19 AM
Not a fan, but thought they’d win this series. Oops.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:19 AM
This is funny.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:20 AM
I figured Grizz were going to mop them but good for the Clippers. I still could see this series going 7 though.

You’re the only person that thinks the Clippers are making it out of the first round, I think. Even the hairbrain picks over at SI all have LAC out in round 1.
Clippers are dogshit and have an awful awful coach. They will be out in the First Round.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:24 AM
I feel bad for Memphis fans. This should def. be a 2-2 series.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:24 AM
I am not a Grizzlies fan, but I thought they would win.
This stat:
leads me to believe that there is still a lot of series left to be played.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:24 AM
Kaiser is correct.
Don’t think the Clippers have the depth to hang with the Spurs. Then again, who can check CP3?
May 8th, 2012 at 11:25 AM
That playoff prediction post says otherwise. Change of heart?
May 8th, 2012 at 11:26 AM
Who can check Tony Parker?
May 8th, 2012 at 11:26 AM
Tim Duncan is the key, I believe. Manu and Parker will get their numbers, but Duncan has to give them 18 pts and 10 rebs every game of that series.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:26 AM
sticking with Clippers, MP. Spurs benched looked great vs. Jazz. Clippers have little/no bench, plus will be tired after this series.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:27 AM
Look a little further…see many Grizz in seven, and a few Clips in 6, and even a “I think the Clips are being underestimated.” You’re not being as brave as you might believe but whatever.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:28 AM
Duncan in 3 games vs the Clippers this year: 42 % shooting, 12 pts, 9 rebs per

JMac gets a lot of shit when he says something “dumb”, but at this point he deserves props for his Clippers prediction.

Was she posting nothing but links to a wrestling blog?
May 8th, 2012 at 11:30 AM
Where’s the guy who was talking about Allen vs. CP3 last night?
Lionel Hollins got the memo, had Allen on him for the last play of regulation.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:30 AM
My humor was more directed at the all caps faux outrage and specifically calling out Grizzly fans, which I’m not entirely sure exist.
I can’t knock someone for being wrong about one team losing or winning. That’s what makes sports so interesting.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:31 AM
I can’t wait for his prediction of the Hawks missing the playoffs for the 5th year in a row only to watch them finish in the top 4 (for the 5th year in a row). Dude hates him some Hawks.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:32 AM
I also think you’re being a little kind to Rudy Gay – he shot 8-25 last night in a game that went to OT, and missed game winning (game 1; shot 8-20) and tying (game 3) shots in this series. Couple that with the success they had in the postseason last year without him, and he’s the obvious potential scapegoat for columnists.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:32 AM
I’m here … wondering why when Paul has a bucket and an assist he is described as “taking a game over”, but when he goes off down the stretch he is merely “dynamic.”
May 8th, 2012 at 11:32 AM
“he deserves props for his Clippers prediction”
Not yet. He’s linking to his prediction and claiming victory before it happens. If the Grizzlies come back and win this series, do you really think J-Mac is going to write a post detailing and linking to his erroneous predictions?
He’s a straight up coward.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:32 AM
I still stand by it, but I guess I shouldve paid more attention to the fact that with Gay out there, neither Randolph or Gasol are factors. They were able to dominate teams on the inside last year, but I guess dont see that as a blueprint for success this year.
But kudos to you TBL, the Cleo of sports predictions.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:33 AM
To be fair, Hawks deserves no love from anyone at this point.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:34 AM
Even if the Clippers get to the semis it still doesn’t change the fact that they are a collection of some of the biggest dipshits in the NBA.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:35 AM
It’s a 4/5 match up.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:35 AM
I didn’t have a favorite in this series (although I thought Memphis would take it), but now I’m heavily rooting for Memphis due to Blake Griffin’s bitchiness and TBL counting his winnings before he’s even won.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:36 AM
Serious question: How does Chris Paul get away with so many fouls on both ends? The guy is constantly pushing off on offense and putting his hands all over players on D.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:37 AM
Please. They finished as the 4 seed with Horford gone from jump street and relying on Pargo, T-Mac and Jason Collins for much of the season. This season was a wash the moment Joe Johnson was resigned two years ago, and it was a complete wash when Al went down.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:38 AM
same way that Garnett has been setting moving picks for close to two decades without being called for it.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:39 AM
Paul is a grade-A punk. Dude can play, but he’s a total dick on the court.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:40 AM
Props for his Clippers #1 seed and Wizards making the playoffs predictions.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:41 AM
Just for once I’d like to attend a championship parade for a hometown team. At this time, I’m so desperate that I might even show up if Atlanta Dream ever wins a WNBA title.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:43 AM
And for lefty Matt Sanchez being a top 8 QB in the NFL.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:45 AM
The sidewalks were 10 deep throughout downtown for the ’05 White Sox. It was fucking fantastic. That was the drunkest afternoon I’ve ever spent at work.
Also, if anyone is surprised by the preening of the EIC over the Clippers prediction (especially before the series is over) and calling out those who doubted him, you must be new here.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:46 AM
Come to Athens, Ga for the second week of Jan, 2013.

What did we tell you about speaking your clueless opinions on here, beekeeper?
May 8th, 2012 at 11:49 AM
One massive collapse and one CP3 Super Sayen OT. That’s the difference. Chris Paul is going to fuck you until you call him top 2 in the NBA.

GRIZZLIES FANS WHERE ARE YOU COWARDS
Right here, Jason. Right where I’ve always been. Not going anywhere. My Grizz ain’t getting it done, but game 5 is tomorrow night. Let’s get it on.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:50 AM
Grizzly fans, which I’m not entirely sure exist.
srod weeps
May 8th, 2012 at 11:51 AM
Every time I start to dislike CP3 due to his on court behavior, I remember that I pretty much act the same exact way when on the court.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:51 AM
i think a change of venue makes it 3-2. it’s close enough that home court matters
May 8th, 2012 at 11:51 AM
Oh clueless Ben, being so clueless again.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:52 AM
Ha! I don’t actually think UGA will win it all next year (OL and ST will doom them) but holy shit…if that would happen the party that would ensue would be epic. If Ga Tech
terroristsnerds thought UGA fans were insufferable now, just wait until they win a natty.May 8th, 2012 at 11:54 AM
srod weeps
Tears of righteous indignation, Senyor. I’m pretty pissed at the way my Grizz have not performed up to this point, but I haven’t given up yet.
Last year;’s blueprint (inside-out on offense, physical on defense) could work this time, but for some reason the team is either reading last year’s press clippings or thinking they are better than they are.
OBTW – I am not much a fan of Rudy Gay. He does alright in the regular season, but he isn’t the guy to carry a team to playoff glory. He glides too dang much through stretches of each game.
May 8th, 2012 at 11:56 AM
Wait. Who are you talking about? Rudy Gay or Joe Johnson?
May 8th, 2012 at 11:56 AM
i meant you’d be sad because the commenter forgot you when he said grizz fans don’t exist
May 8th, 2012 at 11:59 AM
That one is me, Jason. I watch about as much basketball as you watch baseball. I’ll gladly admit error in thinking the Grizzlies would win this series. Will you do the same about your gaffes?
May 8th, 2012 at 12:00 PM
Too much Gay Mayo for the Grizz. Gasol and Randolph should/could be dominating this series.
May 8th, 2012 at 12:00 PM
Rudy Gay’s presence has changed the Memphis mindset offensively. Last year they were focusing on dumping it down low to Z-Bo and running high-low w/Gasol.
Do you think this:
has been impacted by Gay getting the ball more? I do. They need to find a better balance, but maybe Z-Bo not being 100% is forcing them to rely on Gay more.
May 8th, 2012 at 12:02 PM
I could have sworn you were a regular commenter.
May 8th, 2012 at 12:02 PM
BITCH, Blake Griffin has flopped more in this series than Allem Iverson did in his entire career…

Ha! It’s a two-for-Tuesday!
May 8th, 2012 at 12:26 PM
SC – Series not over! Grizzlies could easily still win it.
And as with anyone who writes predictions on a daily basis, of course i miss more than i hit.
