Sammy Watkins, the Best Freshman in College Football Last Season, Got Arrested [UPDATE: It's Marijuana]
Sammy Watkins, the Clemson star receiver who put up mind-boggling numbers as a freshman, was arrested early this morning according to CBS 7. It’s unclear what Watkins was arrested for, but he was “booked into the City of Clemson’s holding facility.”
[UPDATE: Per an email from Clemson, the arrest was for possession of controlled substance and simple possession of marijuana. Both are misdemeanors.]
Watkins was unstoppable in the ACC as a true freshman: 82 catches for 1,219 yards and 12 TDs. He’ll be a Heisman candidate in 2012. [CBS 7 via ACC Sports]

Ah, Climpson.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:43 AM
this kid was a beast; however, the lasting memory of Clemson I have from last season is them getting absolutely trucked by WVU
May 4th, 2012 at 11:43 AM
I always thought Clemson waited until November to start fucking up? nice hustle guys, way to get an early start on it.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:43 AM
Suspend him for three days.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:44 AM
Clemson is cute. An east coast aTm.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:46 AM
Public indecency with another guy. He misheard the phrase “Rub Howard’s Rock”
May 4th, 2012 at 11:47 AM
Sammy, you didn’t have to go this route! We were already rooting for you!
May 4th, 2012 at 11:47 AM
I wonder what he did. God damn I hate the silly season for CFB. The next 4 months will feel like a minefield for college fans.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:47 AM
Guesses on what he is being charged with? I’ll take the classic drunk/disorderly.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:48 AM
It would be hilarious if Wayne Fontes had another psychic moment in this thread
May 4th, 2012 at 11:48 AM
Gotta be alcohol related. Therefore Dabo should take a page out of Brian Kelly’s book and suspend him for two months over the summer and nothing else.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:48 AM
fuck clemson.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:49 AM
tell him to get his ass in the tower since practice isn’t going to tape itself?
May 4th, 2012 at 11:50 AM
Sammy, you didn’t have to go this route! We were already rooting for you!
Ha.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:51 AM
That could be swept under the rug. Gonna go with assault (and/or battery), sexula or otherwise.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:52 AM
Actually, I think I’ll change my guess and go with weed.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:52 AM
tell him to get his ass in the tower since practice isn’t going to tape itself?
I hear that Notre Dame pipes in music during practice to get them ready to play away games in loud stadiums. The musical choice that day? The soundtrack to the Wizard of Oz.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:52 AM
South Carolina one of those states that still outlaws sodomy?
May 4th, 2012 at 11:54 AM
Ass to mouth?
May 4th, 2012 at 11:55 AM
South Carolina one of those states that still outlaws sodomy?
All anti-sodomy laws were ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court via the Lawrence v. Texas ruling of a few years ago.
I mean….I don’t know.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:55 AM
i’m putting my money on the long shot odds of running a Ponzi Scheme since weed, drunk and sexual assault/battery has already been taken.
May 4th, 2012 at 11:58 AM
Aww, first time nearly busted laughing at the new office

Aww, first time nearly busted laughing at the new office
Welcome back to the work force.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:02 PM
An east coast aTm.
Ass to mouth?
That works too.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:03 PM
You heard it here first: KC is a fan of Ass to Mouth.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:03 PM
Seems rather odd that someone hasn’t found out what he was charged with yet. Makes me think it’s either a really big deal or something very small.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:04 PM
No idea who this kid is. That surprises no one.
When is the last time a wideout won the Heisman? ’91?
May 4th, 2012 at 12:05 PM
Ban him. Him, and his children, and his children’s children. For three months.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:06 PM
Oh.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:07 PM
get to know him.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:08 PM
Is he the next big stud in college football? I can’t think of another Blackmon at the moment and too busy to search
May 4th, 2012 at 12:08 PM
It’d be like me asking if you knew who Johnny Gaudreau or Gabriel Landeskog is, Parrish. Get over yourself.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:08 PM
Fitz should have.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:09 PM
Are those guys two of the best in the sport they play, because this guy is one of the best 25 players in CFB.
Marquise Lee, USC WR.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:09 PM
Legalize it.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:09 PM
Let them Blaze!
/congrats to recent UDFA that signed with Colts yesterday who used to be a regular in my blunt circles
May 4th, 2012 at 12:10 PM
He’s built just like Tyrus Thomas.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:10 PM
dorial green beckham at missouri…he’s big and fast and in a way uptempo offense.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:10 PM

When is the last time a wideout won the Heisman? ’91?
It is a rarity that they win but there’s always a contender or two at WR. Also, since Charles Woodson won the thing for playing WR/CB does he count?
May 4th, 2012 at 12:11 PM
Is that when Timmy won his?
May 4th, 2012 at 12:12 PM
I’m very interested in seeing this dude play when UGA takes them on.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:13 PM
Fitz should have won it in 2004.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:13 PM
congrats on the job man, good to hear.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:13 PM
I assume Watkins will get one game for this, which means Auburn dodges a huge bullet.
/god dammit
May 4th, 2012 at 12:13 PM
dorial green beckham at missouri…he’s big and fast and in a way uptempo offense.
We haven’t seen him yet
May 4th, 2012 at 12:14 PM
I really hope he doesn’t live up to the hype.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:14 PM
So do I.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:15 PM
Voters have such a hard time NOT giving that award to a QB or a RB, the award doesn’t really accomplish what it’s set out to accomplish.
For my money, Megatron was probably the most uncoverable WR I ever saw in College football. It seemed unfair, even.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:15 PM
Googling Tim Tebow… it’s pretty hilarious that The Big Lead homepage is the 2nd organic search result after Tebow’s official website.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:17 PM
Allen Hearns at Miami.
/wishful thinking’d
May 4th, 2012 at 12:18 PM
it really doesn’t matter. with the spread mizzu runs, you won’t be able to double him and he’s a 6’5″ freak playing in pass heavy up tempo offense…he could get 80 catches and 1,200 yards in his sleep.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:18 PM
UGA did a bang up job, though.
/remembers Reggie Ball throwing it out of bounds on purpose on 4th down
//cackles
May 4th, 2012 at 12:19 PM
he is doing a motivational type thing today not far from me. A buddy of mine is at it through work. apparently he brought up Tebowing. Urban is also there. he said it was quite awful all together.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:19 PM
Ugh, I just looked this up….that was the Jason White year.
White should drive that fucking trophy to Arizona and give it to Fitz, personally.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:19 PM
Oh…they can double him. You can double anyone, it just means a LB will need to cover in space, and they have that white dude who is the Wes Welker of CFB.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:20 PM

Why even play the games? Just give him the Biletnikoff award already.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:20 PM
you CAN double him…but you really shouldn’t. that’s exactly what those types of offenses are hoping you do. if he’s as good as advertised, double coverage wouldn’t really affect him too much as it is…let alone when someone else is wide open or there’s one less pass rusher out there.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:21 PM
That was the worst BCS Title Game ever.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:21 PM
It’s too bad UGA won’t have Ogletree for the Mizzou game. I’d put him on the LOS opposite Beckham and jam the fuck out of him. Methinks DGB never had to deal with 6-3, 250 pound hybrids mauling him in HS.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:22 PM
stop being a cunt, pms621.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:22 PM
dude, he lived in missouri…he called that “prom.”
May 4th, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Disagree. Heupel/Weinke tragedy.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Last January happened, don’t let your Saban lust convince you otherwise
May 4th, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Fantastic.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:24 PM
stop being a cunt, pms621.
Haha. Glad to see your Fightin’ 096ers are moving up from the Sun Belt Conference. Don’t mind the smell we left in Conference USA. June Jones went on a Zombie and Singapore Sling bender last night and has the farts something terrible today.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:24 PM
Best defense in a generation >>> 13-2 abortion >>>> 21-7 LSU-OU snoozefest involving perhaps the worst Heisman winner of all time.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:26 PM
OSU-MICH is gonna be a great fucking game this year.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:26 PM
At least all those games were close. OU wasn’t close to USC after about a quarter and a half.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:28 PM
Let’s not forget the Ashlee Simpson abortion of a halftime show for USC-OU too. That happened.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:28 PM
it doesn’t matter what conference we go 0-fer in, really.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:28 PM
That was the year Leinart won the Heisman I believe. White won it the year before, Bush won it the year after, when Texas beat USC in the best game of this century.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:30 PM
it doesn’t matter what conference we go 0-fer in, really.
Conference USA is a step up. You’ll have East Carolina, Tulsa, and Southern Miss. All three have had decent success in recent years. Unfortunately they also provide the only legitimacy left in that conference.
McCarney had yall at 5-7 last year. And you have a new stadium that looks a lot nicer than ours. So there’s that.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:31 PM
Let’s not forget the Ashlee Simpson abortion of a halftime show
Thanks.

UNT went 5-7 last year? holy shit…that’s not half bad.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:34 PM
Ban him. Him, and his children, and his children’s children. For three months.
We can always count on you for Simpsons references.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:35 PM
UNT went 5-7 last year? holy shit…that’s not half bad.
Of course that effort led to McCarney having a minor stroke in the off season. And you just hired Tony Benford in basketball. He is apparently a really good recruiter.
