Read today that one airline (Spirit?) is charging $100 per checked bag. Between the effed-up security and the effin’ airline greed, air travel has become a major clusterfuck. It used to be so, so different.

Indeed. I flew first class to Germany and coach on the way back. It was quite a bit different. I flew home by myself, too, so that made it even a little bit worse as I ended up sitting in a window seat next to some weird dude that never once got up to use the bathroom or anything. It was like he was trying to get an embolism

These days, that’s all I can take, too. Dallas to West Coast nonstop and I’m topped out.

My biggest travel regret ever is turning down an offer of first class from Detroit to Tokyo if I’d get bumped to a flight three hours later. My flight ended up getting delayed four hours and I was late anyway, and 14 hours crowded like cattle in a railcar was the worst trip I’ve ever experienced.
If you’re ever offered first class, TAKE IT.

I don’t know that it’s worth the money because I did it on standby but international first class is a great bit of fun.

Last time I flew through London, British Airways was on strike, and they put me up in a hotel for a couple nights, then upgraded me to first class on the way home. Ended up being quite a good trip even though all I wanted to do was go home.
