Measuring the Impact of Terrell Suggs’ Achilles Injury
With the news that Terrell Suggs tore his Achilles’ tendon last weekend, it obviously raises great concerns in how Baltimore will deal with the injury. Suggs has said that it is a partial tear and told Rachel Nichols that he will be back by mid-season. That is extremely optimistic of Suggs. The full recovery time is at least nine months for a full tear, and as this CBS report states, coming back by October from a partial tear would be “a stunningly fast recovery from such an injury.” Even if he returns by the end of the year, and can get not only medically cleared but back in football shape, he will miss a substantial portion of the season.
Twenty-nine other players, via searches using the play finder at pro football reference, have been a first team all-pro on defense since the merger, and then missed ten or more of their team’s games the following season. A handful retired, and of course there was Jerome Brown’s tragic car accident, while the rest suffered injuries. Here is the full list, in reverse chronological order:
The average result for this group? The points allowed per game went from 17.3 to 20.8, a 3.5 point increase. The average wins dropped from 9.8 wins to 7.9 wins, almost a 2 win drop.
As for the players involved, there was high variability in how they came back for the rest of their careers, depending on age, nature of the injury, and other miscellaneous factors. Some went on to play at a high level, like Bruce Smith, Rod Woodson, and Ray Lewis. Others weren’t really ever the same, with talents like Bubba Smith, Keith Millard, John Offerdahl, and Bob Sanders never reaching their prior performance.
Already replacing Jarrett Johnson as well, Baltimore will look to some combination of draft selection Courtney Upshaw, Sergio Kindle, Pernell McPhee and Paul Kruger to fill the roles. History would say that there will be an impact, and whether someone develops to fill that role will dictate just how much. It’s been more than a field goal for the other cases of a team losing a star defender for most of the year.

The Holly Sonders “yea so what I can’t hit the ball I have amazing tits” picture up top is really ruining my productivity today. Every time I refresh its like the first time all over again.

The AFC is all about the Texans and Pats this year. Both teams will have weak divisions and lock up the two high seeds. If Schaub and Andre Johnson stay healthy and the Texans avoid any other major injuries, this is their year.

It really does help Pitt a lot if he is not back in time. He has to average at least 1.5 sack a game since 09 when he plays us. What a player.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:37 PM
I have multiple tabs open and the title of this one shows as “Measuring the Imp” which is oddly hilarious to me right now.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:38 PM
Knowing Bal’s draft history, Upshaw will be a badass and win rookie of the year.

May 3rd, 2012 at 2:40 PM
Upshaw will do a fine job filling his role
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:41 PM
I think Cincy is gonna party like it’s 2009, and take the North. But maybe we don’t sweep the division this time.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:41 PM
Didn’t Sergio Kindle fall down the stairs last year?
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:41 PM
No, youre really right. As the teams are constituted right now, Texans are the AFC favorite.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:41 PM
…and Ray Ray is giong to be 37 this year, and really wasn’t that great last year. Balt’s D was better when he was out for a month, small sample size and all.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:43 PM
8-8.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:43 PM
you know my feelings on the bengals, but i agree with you. i like cincy better than the ravens and could go either way with the stillers.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:44 PM
This combined with the infusion of talent on the OL and change of OC has me very optimistic about the offense.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:44 PM
Cody was awful for sure, but Kindle seems more like a fluke issue, though.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:45 PM
I was really looking for a discussion of the force exerted to injure the achilles and the resultant energy release of the injury. What a wasted opportunity
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:45 PM
AJ Green >> whatever anyone else has on offense in the AFC North.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:45 PM
I think Cincy is gonna party like it’s 2009, and take the North.
Unsure there, Dalton was aided mightily by AJ Green bailing his ass out.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:46 PM
Not sports.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:46 PM
I never have a problem with someone that talks shit and then backs it up the way Suggs does. He’s a terror.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:47 PM
dalton still has aj green to bail his ass out tho.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:47 PM
AJ Green gives me legitimate nightmares. This was a badass play

i dunno man…jets got tebow. just sayin…
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:49 PM
Bengals need to find a running game to be successful. Interesting to see if Cincitucky’s favortie ginger has a sophmore slump.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:49 PM
dalton still has aj green to bail his ass out tho.
Agreed, I just wonder if those errant passes AJ made look good will be there again or actually get worse. Not sold on the QB at all.

Best AJ Green high school catch? I’m going with this one.
Best college catch? Definitely this one.

Well well well, look at Ike “Hand Dance” Taylor nowhere near the play again.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:52 PM
Verizon Suggs is what shows up for the picture caption. There’s nothing to get, I am just being hilarious
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:52 PM
Jermaine Gresham, Orson Charles and AJ Green should be a decent troika. Bengals still need a solid possession WR, though, and Charles has a pretty solid bust potential as well.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:54 PM
Didn’t he only get like 3 games? I like to hear that. Hopefully LeShore gets only a game.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:54 PM
Julio Jones > AJ Green
/Bammer’d
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:54 PM
not sold on him either, but if they have to bring in another QB, he’ll be coming into an awfully cushy situation.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:56 PM
Eat a dick. All of Atlanta would disagree, and we (by and large) like Julio here.
AJ takes a shit all over Julio, because AJ actually CATCHES THE GOD DAMN BALL when it hits his hands.

AJ Green looks beastly, but I’d take Pittsburgh Receivers as the best unit in the North. Especially now the Hines isn’t taking snaps away from Cotchery/Sanders.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:07 PM
and id take both of those teams’ 3rd WR’s in a heartbeat to start here.
they’re both fantastic units in different ways. pit is faster, cincy has bigger athletes…both are fantastic.

Wrong. Beyond dumb.
I’m biased, but Boldin and Torrey Smith are pretty damn good. Pittsburgh’s wideouts are talented but too stupid to be great. Brown is the best one out of that group.

Un-fucking-real. I have a tee time at 5:15pm, and of course it’s going to start raining at fucking 5. Oh, the rain will be done by 9 though, no problem. It’ll just happen exactly when I want to golf. Fuck this.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:11 PM
what production did you get out of the sergio kindle draft pick? anything? no? then it’s a fucking bust. that’s the very definition of a bust.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:11 PM
You’re always shittign on Julio, and yet it’s Roddy that drops more balls.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:12 PM
Ravens defense has been slightly eroding for years. RayRay is a step slow these days, two steps by the end of the year. Reed only plays like half the time. TSizz was carrying a lot of the load, the loss is huge.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:12 PM
lol…i honestly think he might still be on the team.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:12 PM
it’s not fair, but sometimes the right answers aren’t.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:13 PM
at some point you’d imagine they’d slip RayRay some crank and a shiv and put him on the field to run wild.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:14 PM
so they get a high draft pick next year and get sam montgomery like they did after their other bad year when they got ngata.
/fuck
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:14 PM
I’ve always liked Sanders when Pitt drafted, but hasn’t gotten a chance to shine for a full season. Guy can be just as dangerous after the catch than Brown and Wallace.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:14 PM
I agree with you. The linked author does not.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:14 PM
Wait, so Kindle is a bust because a totally unrelated player drafted after him at a completely different position is good? This is weak even for TBL.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:15 PM
They always talk about what great camps Carlton has then never activate him for games. I like Cribbs and all but he’s simply not a WR.
Activate and deploy Mitchell assholes.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:15 PM
I’ve always liked Sanders when Pitt drafted, but hasn’t gotten a chance to shine for a full season. Guy can be just as dangerous after the catch than Brown and Wallace.
He’s a more polished route runner than Brown too. And for his size, not a terrible run blocker.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:15 PM
KINDLE IS A BUST BECAUSE HE WAS DRAFTED IN THE 2ND FUCKING ROUND AND HASN’T DONE A SINGLE FUCKING THING.
im sorry for yelling, but sometimes that’s what it takes to get the point across.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:16 PM
This is true, but when Julio has 3-4 seasons as big as Roddy has had I’ll let up. When you give up two drafts, you expect more than what your 24th (or whatever Roddy was) overall pick gives you.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:17 PM
that’s funny because i kinda thought he was our most explosive WR last year. not saying a lot, but he’s not the worst downfield threat and has gotten better each year despite that horrible QB play.
i really think cribbs could be a decent fit in a west coast if a WR can get him the ball in stride. that’s when he’s at his most dangerous…you hit him in stride on a slant against single coverage, and that’s a tough matchup for a CB.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:17 PM
“No, youre really right. As the teams are constituted right now, Texans are the AFC favorite.” CJ
Man, I hope you’re right. If they can get anything from Mercilus as a pass rusher this year, that defense should be really good again. My biggest worry is that losing Winston and Briesell will really hurt the running game. The Texans are built to beat a team like the Pats in the playoffs with long, time eating TD drives and a defense that makes you go on long drives. I still think the Pats are the team to beat, but I think the Texans are built to do it on the road if necessary.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:19 PM
Cribbs could be a real WR if he had a real QB to throw to.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:19 PM
Manny Sanders hasn’t been healthy. Think he had some personal shit last year too. Got to be on the field.
Kindle is a bust because he went to Texas, and all Texas players are busts.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:19 PM
I agree with this. I think if all teams are healthy, Houston is the best in the AFC. It’s amazing how fast the AFC went from easily the best conference to a complete shit show.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:19 PM
husker…i know you always gave me shit for tressel’s conservatism on offense, but i was watching some of trent’s all snap youtubes from 2010 yesterday and saban deserves some (albeit less) of that criticism too. he had trent and julio that year and could’ve (didnt need to…) just let them go straight up wild. he def scaled it back and played it safe.
imagine if holgorsen or leach had those two…whooboy.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:20 PM
Comment of the
day week monthyear? Oh yeah…comment of the year.May 3rd, 2012 at 3:20 PM
A bust is someone highly drafted who doesn’t produce because of talent. Freak accidents have nothing to do with not living up to potential. As a Cleveland fan, I thought you’d be intimately familiar with the intracaces of busts.
Dan Cody was a bust. Sergio Kindle is not.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:20 PM
My biggest worry is that losing Winston and Briesell will really hurt the running game
This is definitely my biggest worry as well. But following those worries, in no particular order: will Foster come down with a case of Chris Johnson-itis and be a less dynamic runner now that he’s gotten paid? Will Watt and Reed be able to replicate their rookie seasons? Can Johnson and Schaub both stay healthy? Is Brandon Brooks really a good o-lineman or did Rick Smith just fall in love with the guy because of his size?
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:21 PM
Saban is most definitely conservative on offense, though he opened that up this past year more than people think. He was super conservative last year because he was so afraid of his young defense getting beat should shit it the fan.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:21 PM
I agree with this. I think if all teams are healthy, Houston is the best in the AFC. It’s amazing how fast the AFC went from easily the best conference to a complete shit show.
I love how this evolved into a backhanded compliment.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:21 PM
Kindle may not be a bust because he had a non-football related injury, but getting absolutely nothing for a 2nd round draft pick is a waste.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:21 PM

My kindle is certainly a bust but I haven’t returned it yet so I’m to blame for my unhappiness.
Nook > Kindle.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:23 PM
freak accidents cause people to not live up to their potential. sergio kindle’s potential is here…/holds hand above head //thinks about it for a second ///lowers it to around nip level…and his production was here…/points at ground.
a bust is someone highly drafted who doesn’t produce. doesn’t matter if it’s drugs, injuries, talent, scheme, whatever…they don’t produce when you expected them to.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:23 PM
I think that’s a bit overblown, if anything i think both conferences are equal in the talent of the teams, a mirror of each other at times.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:23 PM
A bust is someone highly drafted who doesn’t produce because of talent
Terrelle Pryor wasn’t that highly drafted but he was the hugest bust ever

May 3rd, 2012 at 3:25 PM
NFL people disagree. Mortenson was on the radio saying Belichick and other AFC coaches see that their conference is by far the weaker of the two and the road to the Super Bowl is much easier for them right now.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:26 PM
I’m not cheering for one or the other. I’m simply making a statement.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:27 PM
Honestly, just look at the QBs in the NFC right now. That’s why the conference is so much better now than it was 5 years ago when it was far inferior to the AFC.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:27 PM
Disagree. I think there is a lot of depth in the AFC this year (despite Suggs injury).
Pats, Jets, Bills in the East. Texans in the South. Bengals, Steelers, Ravens in the North. Broncos and 1 of Chiefs/Chargers in the West.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:28 PM
Texans are the best? Laughable. Who’s replacing Mario Williams? Because he made that secondary look a lot better than it is.
And at the end of the day Schaub has still yet to so much as even appear in a playoff game.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:29 PM
This. Love my Nook Tablet. Rooted it and it’s fantastic.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:29 PM

/miguelsmalls
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:29 PM
Who else is semi-respectable in that division? I guess the Broncos have the best chance with Peyton.
Oh and the NFC is now top dog, Giants, Packers, 49ers, Lions, Bears, Saints, Falcons, Panthers, Eagles, Cowgirls, Redskins could all be fighint for playoff scraps.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:30 PM
I think the AFC is a lot better than the NFC, actually.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:30 PM
i wish that the afc was a shit show…then there wouldn’t be three playoff teams in my teams’ division.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:30 PM
well, there might be three playoffs teams even if the afc were a shit show, but not three legit teams.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:30 PM
Texans are the best? Laughable. Who’s replacing Mario Williams?
If Watt and Reed play like they did last year, I think he is easily replaced. He only played 5 games.
And at the end of the day Schaub has still yet to so much as even appear in a playoff game.
Because he broke his foot. Not because he sucks. He was having a pretty damn good season before that happened.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:31 PM
Jets? Suck. Bills? Please. Chiefs and Broncos? GTFO
You must have missed last year when he didn’t play but 5 games yet Houston still was one of the best 5 defenses in the NFL.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:31 PM
no.
and the giants don’t really help the argument when they’re a 9-7 team every year…are we going to say the NFC is better because the giants got hot two years and made a run (against a bunch of NFC teams) to the SB? i think that’s ridiculous when they’re not a great regular season team.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:32 PM
Everything I’ve read from people who have talked to coaches disagrees.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:32 PM
im waiting on the 49ers legitimacy…alex smith aint getting the benefit of the doubt.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:32 PM
You are on to something with this. There are more QBs in the top couple tiers in the NFC.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:32 PM
I just got one. I’m thinking about Rooting it. any downsides?
Is the e-reader still as good as it is if it wasn’t rooted?

Dammit. I meant where all he did was play in 5 games.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:33 PM
Bills in the East.
That check’s going to bounce.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:34 PM
I was making the assumption that the Bears before Cutler got hurt were going to be a dangerous five seed in the playoffs. And, the Skins could get better depending upon RG3. But yeah, the NFC has the better QB talent currently, and will do so in the future as well.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:34 PM
Dammit. I meant where all he did was play in 5 games.

May 3rd, 2012 at 3:35 PM
it’s really splitting hairs though. you argue against the jets, bills, cheifs and broncos, but lets not pretend the panthers, lions, bears and redskins are any different.
there’s probably three SB contenders in the NFC (pack, NYG – even tho they don’t do shit in the reg season and saints) and only a couple in the AFC (pats, 1/3 of each the steelers, ravens and bengals).
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:35 PM

May 3rd, 2012 at 3:36 PM
I don’t know how they survied those 13 games without him last year (including a playoff victory).
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:36 PM
Let’s not forget that Stafford is going to keep piling up 5000 yard seasons as long as he’s healthy and has the best WR in football.

i think a bunch of QB’s being drafted by shitty AFC teams will evnetually even the scales. much like afc in the early 2000′s with big ben, rivers, carson palmer and peyton all being highly drafted QB’s.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:37 PM
Jets defense is legit. If the offense turns into something like the Broncos last year in terms of ground n pound with Tebow, they’ll tough each week.
Bills add a bunch of defensive talent to a team that was in playoff contention last year until their best offensive player got hurt.
Broncos added Manning (assuming he is healthy) and Chiefs get back Charles and Berry their two best players.
Legitimate playoff teams.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:37 PM
Well, that’s why I think it’s the far superior league.
AFC:
Brady, Manning, Big Rape, Rivers, Schuab…and who else? Luck should be up there soon, but I’m not counting rookies just yet. Locker? Gabbert? Mexigod/Jesus combo? Harvard dude? Palmer’s corpse? Cassell?
NFC:
Brees, Manning, Rodgers, StaffDaddy, Cam, Romo, Vick, MattyIceWhoMeltsInThePlayoffs, Cutler,
Then you have the middle tier of Freeman, Alex Smith, Matt Flynn, Kolb.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:38 PM
i think the second bolded point should’ve preceded the first bolded point…you know, cuz stafford has more seasons with huge chunks missing than he does seasons where he stayed healthy.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:38 PM
Perhaps if there were a Pro Bowl at the end of the season, this issue could be settled once and for all…
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:38 PM
lol AJ plays in Cincy.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:39 PM
mumbles.
/the word mumbled was “weeded”
//you just couldn’t hear it because i had a gun barrel in my mouth
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:39 PM
Other than the fact that it voids your warranty? No.
When I got mine I could still install third-party apps through a loophole that has since closed. Which is huge, because the B&N app store is horrific. But the root process is pretty easy and opens it up to a host of awesome apps like HBOGo, ScoreCenter, WWF, etc. The screen has a great picture and the hard home/volume/power keys are money, as is the expandability (I popped in a 32GB MircoSD). Plus, you can borrow all all sorts of ebooks through the PirateBay Library – there’s an awesome torrent called Bestof2011 that you need to download immediately.
And yes, the e-reader is just as strong rooted. If you don’t like it you can always switch back to the Nook interface.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:39 PM
NFC has Stafford, Cam, Freeman, RG3 as their fairly young gun QBs.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:39 PM
I need to amend my GTFO on the Broncos as I forgot 16 is there now. I stand by it re: KC.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:40 PM
Husker: Flacco is the best QB in the league, just ask him as soon as he is done staring down ray rice.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:40 PM
RG3 aint getting help for at least a couple years, cam’s legit, freeman’s a question mark and glass stafford’s gotta prove it.
AFC has mallett, which could be a wildcard.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:41 PM
More accurate.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:41 PM
I laughed.
This was said in jest, right, because no one tops Megatron.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:41 PM
i wish dirt weren’t banned for this.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:41 PM
//you just couldn’t hear it because i had a gun barrel in my mouth
Don’t do that! We won’t be able to study you!
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:42 PM
fairly depressing middle tier.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:42 PM
Flacco is much better than people give him credit for. He’s not top-tier AFC, but he’s a damn good QB who should have played in the SB this year.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:42 PM
I really hope he’s good to go from his shoulder thing and will end this talking point.
I’d be salty too if I had to deal with Flacco as my QB.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:42 PM
thanks.
did you root with the SDcard method?
i’m still on the fence about it since i don’t want to brick it and i haven’t done it before.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:42 PM
Touche on both your point and spence’s.
I like where you head is on this
/passes peace pipe to spence
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:43 PM
you know what’d have been funny? if seau left a suicide note saying he wanted his brain donated for study, and in his last living moments wanted to check his driver’s license to make sure he’s an organ donor only to find out he wasn’t.
FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:43 PM
Compare it to Gabbert, Palmer’s corpse, Locker/HasselbeckWhoIsn’tFuckingThatCrazyChick, etc.
Also, it’s actually the bottom tier now that I look at it again. Only Ponder is worse.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:43 PM
Brees is all downhill from here, he had a nice run. Manning is still inconsistent. MattyIce already bumped his head on his ceiling. Stafford is made of glass. Lot of those other guys still have a lot to prove.
And ARodge has the herp.
/mostly trolling
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:43 PM
He is definitely* a top 25 QB.
*maybe
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:44 PM
Relative to NFL quarterbacks, he’s shit.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:45 PM
the qb who, in his three fourth quarter series against the pats, threw an INT and had a drive lost on downs? you’re right, he totally deserved it.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:45 PM
Yeah, it seemed to be the easiest way.
If B&N hadn’t closed that loophole I wouldn’t have rooted, but if you just got one it’s really, really limited in terms of apps. The app store is like a scraped uterus.
The Nook does a lot of things well right out of the box and I like it better than the Kindle even without the root, but the lack of third-party apps is a big downside, IMO. Also a downside? Bricking your new tablet.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:46 PM
in general, if you’re team was in the mix or considered a good fit for Manning I after an entire season of being injured, you’ve got a shitty QB situation.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:48 PM
I wonder if Suggs has one of those clauses common to many athlete contracts that prohibits the player from engaging in other sports or activities that could lead to injury? And whether he will continue to collect his pay despite being injured playing hoops?
/ Gant’d
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:48 PM
If you had to rank the QBs in the NFC I’d go:
1. Brees
2. Rodgers
3. Manning
4. Stafford
5. Romo
6. Cam
7. Cutler
8. VIck
9. Ryan
10. Bradford
11. Freeman
12. Smith
13. Flynn*
14. Kolb
15. Ponder
RG3 is left out as he hasn’t played yet.
*he’s a total wildcard. Not real sure where to put him
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:48 PM
yeah, if they just added a few apps it could be awesome- another video streaming app that allows you to buy or rent videos is top of my list.
and if Netflix had a better streaming selection i wouldn’t even need another video streaming app.
i’ve been thinking about ripping DVD’s and then formatting them to MP4 so I can stick them on my nook, but the quality has been poor at best.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:48 PM
Yeah, a guy who has never missed the playoffs in his career is shit.
Yup, same guy. He did totally deserve it, because he was the best player on the field that day. If Evans catches that ball the narrative about Flacco completely changes. Its stupid – he’s was just as good before as he would have been had Evans caught the ball – but that’s the way sports media works.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:50 PM
I believe I heard he did, and it’s up to BAL to decide whether they will pay him or not. I think they still should though.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:50 PM
1. rodgers
2. brees
3. eli
4. romo
5. cam
6. vick
7. stafford (4,5,6,7 really are interchangeable…all work great on their own teams)
8. ryan
9. cutler
10. alex smith
11-16. the rest and the rookie
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:51 PM
I am hoping he tells Benson’s Stooge Krewe to go fuck themslves, sits out a year, then signs with Oakland and leads them to two or three Super Bowl wins*.
/ *-The Oakland part, of course, is pure fantasy
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:51 PM
I tried doing that too but it formatted the picture strangely. Only filled half the screen.
Netflix is pretty handy; I use it a lot. Hulu+ is worthless. But yes, they definitely need another video app. HBOGo is fantastic if you have a subscription.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:51 PM
im just glad cleveland native, lee evans decided not to be a professional on that play and give cleveland a little karmic payback to baltimore. thanks lee!
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:52 PM
Husker – I like your ranking, would personally go:
Rodgers, Brees, Eli, Stafford, Romo, Vick, Cam, Cutler, Ryan, Freeman, Smith, Bradford, Kolb, Flynn, Ponder, Flynn,
RG3 is DQ’d as you pointed out.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:52 PM
I’d take Stafford (perhaps because of my bias) at 4 over Romo and Vick all day, erryday. Cam is the one that was tough for me. Need to see what Cam does this year before I go all-in.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:53 PM
yeah, that’s what i’d love to see on there, even the Showtime version of that… which they tease you with b/c there’s a Showtime app, but it only allows you to buy episodes, not stream.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:53 PM
Read somewhere in the past week that Hulu is going to now require viewers to have a cable subscription to access its service. Fuckers.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:55 PM
that’s completely asinine. people who have cable subscriptions don’t need Hulu b/c they are already paying to watch commercials and can likely get OnDemand for free.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:55 PM
Agree on Stafford, and I put Cam behind Vick for right now. If Cam can repeat last year while improving his YPA and cut his INTs, I’d move him up to 5 or so.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:57 PM
AFC
Upper tiers:
Brady, Manning (assumes health), Ben, Rivers
Middle:
Flacco, Dalton, Fitzpatrick, Tebow
Bottom:
Palmer, Cassel, Gabbert
Undetermind:
Tannehil, Locker, Luck, Weeden
NFC
Upper tiers:
Rodgers, Brees, Manning, Stafford, Romo
Middle:
Cutler, Newton, Vick, Freeman, Smith, Ryan
Bottom:
Bradford, Ponder, Kolb
Undetermind:
Griffin, Flynn
Pay more attention to the groupings rather than order. Each tier represents a couples tiers, this is just a simplification. But yeah, NFC seems better QB wise.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:57 PM
AFC:
Brady, Manning, Big Rape, Rivers, Schuab, Flacco, Dalton, Palmer, Harvard, Mexigod, Locker, Cassel, Gabbert.
Tannehill, Weeden and Luck are rookies
Good god…the AFC has some shitty fucking QBs
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:58 PM
“Is Brandon Brooks really a good o-lineman or did Rick Smith just fall in love with the guy because of his size?” – ms621
Honestly, that really shouldnt matter this year. Caldwell was a 2nd or 3rd round pick out of Alabama, and he is the one that should be replacing Breisell. And I think Winston was a bit overrated, but it’s up to Rashod Butler to stay healthy and prove me right. If the Texans are having to rely on Brooks this year, they are in trouble. He doesn’t fit the mold of OL for their scheme, either, being as big as he is. They think he’s athletic enough to run the zone scheme, though.
I’m worried about Arian from an injury standpoint more than from a head case standpoint. I don’t think he’s anything like Chris Johnson between the ears.
May 3rd, 2012 at 4:03 PM
if…*IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF*…weeden gets a lot of help from trent and learns the playbook, he’s definitely got the throwing ability to produce SOMETHING. granted, not sure that’s more than a middle tier or what.
May 3rd, 2012 at 4:07 PM
he’s definitely got the throwing ability to produce SOMETHING.
A really high fucking draft pick with those WRs, IMO.
May 3rd, 2012 at 4:12 PM
He chomped off the Aints’ tiny dick in the playoffs, as I recall.
The Alex End-Around TD goes down with Beast Mode, Big Ben I and II and the Monday Night Meltdown as the all-time Aints nadir moments.
That’s not even including blowing the 35-7 lead against the Niners and losing 38-35.
May 3rd, 2012 at 4:22 PM
Putting Freeman in that group is crazy. That dude is terrible.
