Mariano Rivera Has a Torn ACL: Done For the Season and Possibly His Career
Mariano Rivera has a torn ACL. The Yankee legend hurt his knee while shagging fly balls in batting practice today. Both Bryan Hoch of MLB.com and Jeff Passan of Yahoo! have tweeted the news. Joe Girardi confirmed the news to ESPN.
Rivera, 42, was in his 18th season with the Yankees and has 608 career saves. Rivera had hinted that this could be his final season. His first season was 1995. In 1996, Rivera was the set up man and in 1997 he took over as the full-time Yankees closer. New York won 5 World Series with Rivera in the bullpen.
I’m sure there will be plenty more tomorrow, but for now, here is what could be Rivera’s final entrance from Monday night against Baltimore. He worked the 9th and got the save.

And yet, they’ll still have a better closer in robertson than boston has right now..

Well that just fucking sucks. Only thing you can really say.
Hope his career doesn’t end like this, not the way he should go out.

At his age and the length of rehab, I wonder if he will have anything left when his knee is healthy. It very well may be the way his career ends. Sad.

Gutless performance by the Mav’s tonight.
Pathetic.

Exit sandman. Loved watching this guy operate at a level way beyond his peers for a long time. Shitty way to go out.

People will remember it. But only as another LeBron failure.

This is sad news to the extreme. This child-molesting PED user should have had a different, much more humiliating end to his career. We should be doubly vindictive on the whole when Jeter’s facade comes crashing down to make up for this societal breakdown

I blame A-rod.
/PRobably something you’ll see in the post tomorrow

All this. I dont follow baseball but this guy was amazing.
RobJules on fire. They got insanely hot shooting for a 2 month stretch and stole a title. Dirk is still what he always has been, soft euro.

I have a hard time believing he wont be back. He’s Mo. He’s invincible. Just give Clemens a call for Christ’s sake.

And not a single peep about how stupid it is to have your antique closer shagging fly balls during batting practice. If this were a team not named the New York Yankees, that would have been in the first sentence. Fan boys…
