I had a similar thought. I’d bet Simers hasn’t been anywhere near the ghetto in a long time even though there’s something like 6 quadrillion square miles of “bad neighborhoods” in L.A.

I was just in Memphis a few weeks ago. With the right crew it would be a ton of fun. It’s gloriously seedy, I thought. And the ribs were pretty goddam good. Overall, I think my experience with KC vs. Memphis tilts in KC’s direction but The Rendezvous in Memphis were probably the best I’ve ever had. Simers is way more likable than Plaschke but he’s also 100% schtick (like his co-worker) so I can see hating him

I’ve been to Memphis, but it really doesn’t count as it was just the airport on connection flights. I went to a BBQ place there, so that’s all I could smell, not the people.

I get Simers’ point. Ralph Lawler has been a class act for a long time, around some putrid teams. The C-A writer taking a potshot at him seemed unnecessary.

Howeva, Simers has obviously some bitter memories of his time in the Bluff City. No need for him to come back ever again. “A southern man don’t need him around anyhow”.

I’ve been to the Beale Street Music Festival every year for the last fifteen or so. I don’t know that I’d want to live there, but then again I sure as hell don’t want to live in El Lay either.
