My recollection is that on one random day TBL dropped into a thread and made it seem like such a big deal that some poster was posting there. Turns out it was the Phillips person.

Why TBL thought this was such a big deal is beyond me, except his perspective is probably based on judging one’s importance based on Twitter followers.

Those in the thread concluded pretty quickly that something didn’t smell right and that Phillips was probably a fraud who was acting a little too cool for school.

Now, was it up to TBL to investigate Phillips? Probably not, because the story we knew was coming broke and no one cares – we already knew. But now Deadspin has given ESPN another black eye while TBL probably gets an invite to golf with Jay Bilas next month. Was it weird TBL acted all smitten with her? A little, doesn’t reflect on his judgment well. Is this that big a deal? No.

TBL deleted the comment that resulted in banishment. Honestly, when I read what Clay wrote I was thought it was pretty harsh and would result in him getting banned. Clay posted a clarifying comment but because TBL only reads the comments sporadically he missed it and banned him.

Still not as bad as TBL banning Dirt for defending TBL’s position on not running with the Sarah Phillip’s non-story. If that sentence doesn’t make sense, go read the round-up. And it still won’t be any clearer.
