It is the same thing for runners. People are starting to realize that all the cushioning we have in our shoes are actually causing us to be injured more often. The cushioning is forcing our legs to hit the pavement harder and putting more pressure on the muscles.

Exactly. Anti-depressants don’t work over night and they’re more effective if they’re paired with talk therapy. There are a lot of guys who will rule out therapy without even trying it because talking about emotions isn’t “manly.”

Just as bad, or worse? I honestly have no idea, I’ve wondered about that but never done the homework.

Without any data to back me up, I can say it’s better for a number of reasons:
-(basically) no pads = less incentive to launch yourself at opponents
-penalties for high tackles, which is anything shoulder level or above
-no down and distance, discourages ball handlers from fighting for every yard and leaving themselves vulnerable and defenders from having to knock the offense backwards. Tackle made where ball carrier gains 2 yards after contact is just as good as tackle made where you drive him backwards.

The brain though is still getting jostled around in our heads and there can’t be something to stop that. Maybe no helmets is a better idea.

I’ve heard it suggested half-seriously that the easiest way to remove head injuries from the game is to get rid of helmets. Obviously that’s far out there but there’s something to be said for the idea.

im of the opinion that these new concussion “preventing” helmets encourage players to use their heads as a weapon since it’s “safer.”
