Jabar Gaffney Released by the Redskins Less Than a Month After His Twitter Meltdown
Jabar Gaffney on April 12: Keeping it 100 during a twitter meltdown.
Jabar Gaffney, hours later on April 12: I got hacked.
Jabar Gaffney, May 1: Released by the Redskins.
Did his release have anything to do with the twitter meltdown?
Gaffney was only slated to be a $2.65 million cap hit this season. But Washington did add Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan in the offseason. And in 2011, they drafted Leonard Hankerson from Miami (13 catches as a rookie). Santana Moss turns 33 this June and is coming off his worst season in years (granted, he had injuries). Gaffney, though, did lead Washington in receiving last year (68 catches, 947 yards, five touchdowns).
That’s a pretty shaky group of receivers. RG3 had two guys at Baylor last year – Kendall Wright and Terrance Williams – who were better than his quartet in Washington. Wright was a 1st round pick and when we publish our 2013 NFL mock draft in a moment, you’ll see Williams is a first round pick, too.
But as a dozen folks noted on twitter, at least Robert Griffin doesn’t have to pay to get No. 10.

I suspect he got cut because he isn’t very good.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:21 PM
I am glad you wrote this…my jump to conclusions mat is at the cleaners, but I see where you are going here.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:22 PM
when we publish our 2013 NFL mock draft in a moment
Can you wait an hour, I’m goign to lunch and I don’t want to miss it.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Yeah, Gaffney is getting cut because he’s been replaced by better players. Twitter probably doesn’t have anything to do with it.
I think they are better now than they were last year, with or without Jabar Gaffney.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:23 PM
nice catch by RGIII and 13 up there.
/high fives dirt
May 1st, 2012 at 12:25 PM
Yes.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:26 PM
this is why i hate that rg went to the redskins. they suck, and have no picks to help in the future. he is going to waste away in that shithole.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:27 PM
Trying my best to keep it 100 up in here, but 99 or so is the best I can give ya.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:27 PM
colts, skins, vikes, browns, TB…newsflash, he was going to a shithole no matter what.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:28 PM
Seriously…Mock Drafts are retarded, but I fucking love them. I’m legitimately pumped for that post.
/seriously
May 1st, 2012 at 12:29 PM
I’ll take that bet. All day.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:31 PM
I think Wright could be a stud. Too bad he has Locker throwing the ball 10 feet to either side of him.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:31 PM
colts, skins, vikes, browns, TB…newsflash, he was going to a shithole no matter what.
yes, i was aware of that. but of that group, the redskins are the worst run, unstable mess of a franchise and i didnt want him to go there.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:31 PM
want.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:32 PM
no doubt. at least there’s nobody in that division that can rush the passer and the skins have that great OL.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:33 PM
In Griffin’s favor is that he is mobile and can make plays outside of the pocket. He will probably need to do that until the Redskins can put a support system in place to give him a chance.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:34 PM
Holy hell. $500 for a putter? They opened a new Golfsmith near my place and I was fucking around with their Scotty Cameron’s. Loved them, but I thought $300 was insane. $500 is Mitt Romney rich.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:34 PM
Gotta have the Redskins taking a QB in rounds 2, 3, or 4.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:34 PM
no doubt. at least there’s nobody in that division that can rush the passer and the skins have that great OL.
well, i will just have to focus on what he did for baylor and live with that.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:34 PM

not sure how you got to this conclusion, but can’t say i agree.
outside of moss, this group is young and somewhat proven. the idea was to build a group of WRs that can grow with RGIII and i think they’ve done that with the additions of garcon, morgan, and hankerson (who’s 13 catches last year came in 2 games before he was injured).
wright and williams have yet to attend one nfl practice.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:36 PM
Move RGIII to wideout and unleash the Sex Cannon.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:36 PM
want.
just got mizuno jpx irons, holy hell, they are unlike any iron i have ever hit. i will not buy anything but mizuno for irons ever again.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:36 PM
This right here. I grew up watching NEB QBs own the country and then play safety (if that) in the NFL. Who fucking cares what he does in the pros. He’ll always be a all-timer for Baylor.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:36 PM
yea, steep and all, but it’s one of a kind, the craftsmanship is phenomenal, putters don’t become obsolete, retain their value and you take roughly 25-40 shots with your putter, it’s the best return on your investment in the bag.
that said, $500 is insane, $300 is insane…agreed there. still want tho.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:36 PM
Future Bear?
May 1st, 2012 at 12:37 PM
Too bad he has Locker throwing the ball 10 feet to either side of him.
But he can run!
/sigh
May 1st, 2012 at 12:37 PM

hows the RBZ driver treating you?
May 1st, 2012 at 12:37 PM

shanny will have RG3 spending as much time in the pocket as out. this isn’t exactly a david carr situation.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:38 PM
Spencer, shut the fuck up about putters and look at this dog. His smile is the same!
May 1st, 2012 at 12:38 PM
na…twink, i think.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:38 PM
Spencer’d
May 1st, 2012 at 12:39 PM
that’s fucking adorable.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:39 PM
Trust me…if I could get the Mrs. on board, I’d eat Ramen noodles for a month if it meant buying the Scotty Cameron. That thing was fantastic.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:40 PM
unfortunately, for two rounds last year and at kapalua this year, yes. had another round this season where i took 38.
/not a bad putter, i swear
//3 footers aren’t gimmes
May 1st, 2012 at 12:40 PM
Sweet, with Gaffney out of the way, time for Hankerson to step up.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:40 PM
i will not buy anything but mizuno for irons ever again.
i’m like 75% there with you.
/scratch or miura are pipe dreams
//possibly titleist at some point
May 1st, 2012 at 12:40 PM
hows the RBZ driver treating you?
just perfect. very long, and adjusting the loft down in the wind was easy. so good that i bought the hybrid, and it is as long as my 3 wood and way more forgiving. finally happy with my bag.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:42 PM
No gimmees = 5 1/2 hour rounds.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:42 PM
spencer- if i want some good, grooving blues to listen to (not stuff from 1920-1950), who should i turn to?
May 1st, 2012 at 12:42 PM
Have you seen the CBS commercial where they are in the confessional booth? Fucking awesome. Ian Baker Finch says he hasn’t putted a 4 footer in 20 years. I laugh every time I see it.
I was at Golfsmith and hit an RBZ 6 iron. Holy hell. I hit it 220 (carried 204) and it was PURE. Not skull fucked or anything like that.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:42 PM
…and now i don’t want to be here anymore. this afternoon of getting fucked by work will be all the worse now that ive got the golf itch.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:42 PM
Because he will be lined up at wideout and Cousins will be under center?
May 1st, 2012 at 12:43 PM
Just watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy…damn that was good. Love spy movies.
/it’s no heist film
May 1st, 2012 at 12:43 PM
Spencer, don’t you wish your IT team looked like this?
May 1st, 2012 at 12:43 PM
Spencer, shut the fuck up about putters and look at this dog. His smile is the same!
i need to get your dog-lovin’ ass an updated pic of my dog. he has a similar smile on his face until the words “food” or “dog park” are uttered.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:43 PM
Joe Bonamassa for blues. Stevie Ray Vaughn crossed with Eric Clapton.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:43 PM
derek trucks band or robert randolph.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:44 PM
I golfed last week with two retired dudes (an Asian I referred to as Ryo Ishikawa and a black dude who looked a lot like Herman Cain). On the par-3, 120 yard hole Ishikawa hit a 5-wood…to within like 6 feet.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:44 PM
i’m like 75% there with you.
/scratch or miura are pipe dreams
//possibly titleist at some point
i am just shocked how effortless it is to hit a long, straight shot with those irons.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:44 PM
in all honesty, not really…my IT team takes long enough to respond to my issues as it is.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:45 PM
CORGI!!!!!!
May 1st, 2012 at 12:46 PM
lol. fuckin’ old man golf…
May 1st, 2012 at 12:46 PM
I saw his birthday treat pic on FB. He was drooling more than smiling though.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:46 PM
Similar story. Golfed with a 65+ navy vet. Played with a 15 degree driver. Hit driver on a 145 yard par 3 to 5 feet. Said if had gone in, he wouldn’t have told anybody.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:46 PM
i wonder if corgis would be as cute if they had normal length legs.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:46 PM
derek trucks band or robert randolph.
thanks. i was listening to the allmans’ bluesier stuff last night, and decided to explore.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:46 PM
Sg, i have someone for you to wipe out. An old guy up in this area shot 6 of his neighbors horses because they kept wandering onto his property.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:47 PM
I hate Jabar Gaffney.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:47 PM
oh man…derek trucks will be perfect then.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:47 PM
HAHAHAHAHAHA.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:48 PM
We played the same course that I came oh-so close to an eagle on a short par 3. The tee box is super elevated, so I got to see the ball stop an inch to the left of the hole (pin high to perfection). I was devastated. Everyone on the tee box thought it was going in.
/sigh
May 1st, 2012 at 12:48 PM
He was drooling more than smiling though.
yeah, apparently dry-mouth dogs are not dry-mouthed when a lamb chop is directly in front of them.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:49 PM
Would we like Tyrion Lannister if he had normal legs?
May 1st, 2012 at 12:49 PM
i think i might…he’s witty.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:45 PM
I own two old TP Mills putters, neither were from the orignal TP (hand crafted). I scour bargain bins as plenty of idiots get rid of the old ones.
