2013 NFL Mock Draft … Yes, One Year Before the Draft Happens
A 2013 NFL Mock Draft? One year in advance? But the ink isn’t even dry on the silly grades from the 2012 draft! Some folks will toss out a Top 32, or a Top 100 list for 2013 … it’s much more fun to project a draft order. (Remember when we did this year year? Only got 10 of the Top 32 picks right.) As for the 2013 order … yes, we’ve got the Patriots winning the Super Bowl over the Lions. And the Bucs and the Chiefs and the Bills in the playoffs! Worst team in the league? Oakland, which drafts a QB to try and make up for the bad Carson Palmer trade …
1. Raiders – Tyler Bray, QB, Tennessee. I’ve been hyping Bray since December. The junior is 6-foot-6 and missed 4 games due to injury last year. I think he’ll play his way to be the top pick in the draft. Others like Logan Thomas of Virginia Tech (I don’t think he’ll come out early), but as a passer, I like Bray much more.
2. Jaguars – Jarvis Jones, LB, Georgia. All-American, 13.5 sacks, and at 6-3, 240, a monster.
3. Colts – Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah. Stayed in school to get his degree. Married with two kids. Looks like a future Pro Bowler. The Colts might have the league’s worst defense in 2012.
4. Seahawks – Matt Barkley, QB, USC. Reunited with Pete Carroll. Matt Flynn’s contract was only a 3-year deal. Barkley will be over-analyzed big-time this season.
5. Browns – Robert Woods, WR, USC. Right now, it looks like a good-not-great receiver class. Will Marquis Lee overshadow Woods this Fall?
6. Dolphins – Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State.
7. Rams [via Redskins] – Seantrel Henderson, OL, Miami. Think the Rams will still need a playmaker, so I suspect if they have two Top 10 picks, they’ll trade one of them down.
8. Cardinals – Barkevious Mingo, LB/DE, LSU. Speed and power on the end at times reminds me of a smaller LT.
9. Rams – Chase Thomas, LB, Stanford. Love this kid. Check out his domination of Notre Dame last year.
10. Vikings – Kawann Short, Purdue. As you can tell, this is a loaded defensive tackle class (if the juniors come out). At 6-3, 310, Short could learn from the great Kevin Williams.
11. Titans – Eric Reid, S, LSU. Will be the best safety in the country.
12. Chargers – Barrett Jones, OL, Alabama.
13. Panthers - Denard Robinson, ATH, Michigan. Between Cam Newton, Joe Adams, Steve Smith and Robinson (he’s no NFL QB), the Panthers will be exciting. Also, this is a for-fun pick, it will never happen. It’s way too early to tell if Shoelaces is a first-round pick.
14. Giants – Sam Montgomery, DE/OLB, LSU. Because the Giants wisely collect pass-rushing stars.
15. Broncos – Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State. Seem to be a lot of good but not elite cornerback prospects.
16. Jets – Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas. It’ll be the first draft pick by their new GM! This is on the belief that Sanchez bombs this year. And by bombs, I mean they Jets miss the playoffs. I think other QB prospect slike Aaron Murray of Georgia and Landry Jones of Oklahoma fall to the 2nd round.
17. Falcons – Manti T’eo, LB, Notre Dame.
18. Steelers – David Amerson, CB, N.C. State. Ike Taylor is still not an elite cornerback.
19. Saints – Brandon Jenkins, DE, Florida State. 21.5 sacks in the last two seasons.
20. Cowboys – Alex Okafor, DE, Texas.
21. Chiefs – Da’Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee.
22. Buccaneers – Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama.
23. Bills – Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor. OMG playoffs in 2012-2013 and fire up the Super Bowl talk!
24. 49ers – D.J. Fluker, OL, Alabama.
25. Ravens – Johnathan Banks, CB, Mississippi State.
26. Bears – Marcus Lattimore, RB, South Carolina. Because when they probably won’t pay Forte, they’ll need another back besides Michael Bush.
27. Bengals – Shayne Skov, LB, Stanford.
28. Packers – TJ McDonald, S, USC.
29. Texans – Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia. I’m not bullish on Smith, but Those In The Know claim he’ll be a first round pick. Schaub is injury prone, and Smith is a much more complete QB than Yates.
30. Eagles – Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame.
31. Lions – Tyrann Mathieu, S, LSU. Honey Badger is only 5-foot-9 and moves to CB in the pros. His swagger is a perfect fit in Detroit.
32. Patriots – Bjoern Werner, DE, FSU. Might be the most improved player in college football next season.

Hell to the yeah.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:42 PM
Started the reverse jinx early this year, huh?
May 1st, 2012 at 12:43 PM
1. Raiders – Tyler Bray, QB, Tennessee
Love the enthusiasm, but unless he gains 20 pounds and gets his head on straight, no way. Then again, if the Raiders are here..

//O rly?
May 1st, 2012 at 12:43 PM
Found it!
May 1st, 2012 at 12:45 PM
I can live with this if the Lions have the privilege to lose to the Pats in the SB.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:46 PM
Robert Woods, WR, USC. Right now, it looks like a good-not-great receiver class. Will Marquis Lee overshadow Woods this Fall?
I think he may be the best to come out of SC, pro-ready anyways. Course the stars turned flops are helping that argument.
/looks at you, Mike Williams & Patrick Turner
May 1st, 2012 at 12:46 PM
I thought he was already a CB? Huh?
May 1st, 2012 at 12:47 PM
Amerson, Fluker and Montgomery shoud be higher.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:48 PM
I’ll go out on a limb and say Kenny Vaccaro will be a first round pick next year.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:48 PM
Either way… Robinson won’t be a 1st round pick, without a position. And Mathieu won’t last till 31 if he’s anywhere near as good as people think he is.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:49 PM
lol, giants @ 14. never change, TBL.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:49 PM
/hatches plan to send mel kiper, todd mcshay, and all other draft honks away forever
May 1st, 2012 at 12:49 PM
Dear god no.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:50 PM
Seriously… can someone explain to me why Mathieu is listed as a S not a CB? Is he really going to play the year at Safety?
May 1st, 2012 at 12:50 PM
Barkevious Mingo
I’d draft this guy, based on the name alone.
Also, if MIA is picking after the Browns…
(pulls out gun)
May 1st, 2012 at 12:50 PM
Well, I see where you’re going with Bray as he’s the prototypical NFL guy, but you’re kidding yourself if you think Barkley isn’t going No. 1.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:51 PM
id like to know why you made this selection.
also, john simon is a VASTLY superior player. any team that runs a 3-4 will have a 4-hour boner if they have the chance to get simon.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Cheap shot artists usually work better at safety than CB
May 1st, 2012 at 12:51 PM
I honestly thought this dude has been super disappointing to this point. Am I wrong?
May 1st, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Is Sammy Watkins eligible for the draft next year? I would think he would be a first round pick if so.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:51 PM
that’s painful
May 1st, 2012 at 12:53 PM
He’s gotta go to TN at 8. He’s basically more volatile Cortland Finnegan with less coverage skill.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:53 PM
Don’t think so.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:53 PM
Elite? No. But he has done a great job of covering #1 WR his whole career. Don’t look into that Denever playoff game too much. Pretty hard to cover someone when the QB has over 6 seconds to throw.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:54 PM
one of those Rams’ picks is going to be in the 29-32 range.
/RGIII!!
May 1st, 2012 at 12:55 PM
Sammy watkins is only a sophomore this year. He’ll be in the 2014 draft
May 1st, 2012 at 12:55 PM
a) it’s “shoelace” not the plural
b) denard aint exactly shifty…he’s a straight line runner
c) this would be a worse pick than the pat white pick by the dowfeen
May 1st, 2012 at 12:56 PM
He has been but has been injured so we’ll see how he preforms this year.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:56 PM
when Bray leads my beloved Volunteers to an undefeated season and national championship, he’ll be coveted as the #1 pick. but he won’t be coming out though.
/resumes conversation with voices in head
May 1st, 2012 at 12:56 PM
You’re welcome
May 1st, 2012 at 12:56 PM
You really think someone is taking Robinson in the first round? You can’t honestly think that, right? Also, I’d be stunned if Matthieu is a first round pick. Dude is a midget (how many 5-7 DBs are first rounders?) and he’s not all that great in coverage.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:56 PM
also, if the browns got robert woods, id dougie up and down the streets.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:57 PM
6. Dolphins – Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State.
I’ve seen this a someplace else as well and also thought this was odd. Simon makes that line go. Now, I’d love for this to be true as it’d mean Hankins would be getting loose this year.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:57 PM
watkins was a true fresman at clemson.
Honey Badger is a safety in college.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:57 PM
More important, how is his dad’s rap career progressing?
May 1st, 2012 at 12:57 PM
That is some shitty Championship games.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:57 PM
Maybe the Rams should consider getting Sam Bradford some WR help eh?
May 1st, 2012 at 12:57 PM
next to a normal looking person, she looks alien she’s so hot.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:57 PM
I also would bet that Jon Jenkins is a first rounder to a 3-4 team (UGA NT) and I think Alec Ogletree will be a first rounder as well as he will blow up at the combine.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:58 PM
2. Jaguars
Jaguars will be 2nd place in the division.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:58 PM
But but but but…… the Jets have Tebow.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:58 PM
oh he’s great…it’s just that simon is one of the freakiest players ive seen in come thru OSU. simon’s a first rounder, no f-ing doubt.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:59 PM
You and I must have differing opinions of the word “great”
May 1st, 2012 at 12:59 PM

May 1st, 2012 at 12:59 PM
not sure how this makes any sense.
May 1st, 2012 at 12:59 PM
Matheiu is a corner now. But I could see him moving to safety in the NFL.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:00 PM
Matt Finkes called him Mike Kudla with a motor. I think he meant that as a compliment…
May 1st, 2012 at 1:00 PM
Say what now? Again, he’s LISTED at 5-9. Everyone who’s been near him say he’s 5-8 with lifts. No fucking way a 5-8 (at best) 170 pound dude is a safety in the NFL.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:00 PM
12. Chargers – Barrett Jones, OL, Alabama. After the dismissal of Norval and AJ Smith, the Bolts’ rebuilding starts now.
No need to thank me for the edit job. I do this for “the love of the game”.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:00 PM
TBL not high on the Manning-led Broncos.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:00 PM
oh yea…kudla set the bench record at the combine (since been broken).
May 1st, 2012 at 1:00 PM
That’ll ease the transition.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:01 PM
Troll hard, TBL. Troll oh-so hard.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:01 PM
hence the “trade down” remarks.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:01 PM
Are there any starting safeties in the league that tiny?
May 1st, 2012 at 1:01 PM
is this about the pick or the Falcons missing the playoffs?
May 1st, 2012 at 1:01 PM
when Bray leads my beloved Volunteers to an undefeated season and national championship, he’ll be coveted as the #1 pick. but he won’t be coming out though.
Book it.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:01 PM
This would be something more I could support. Andy Reid losing more NFC championship games is par for the course.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:02 PM
Not according to the LSU site.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:02 PM
I would think Barrett Jones would be next year’s Matt Kalil. Not a super wow prospect, but one who will start from day one for 10 years and be a top-10 pick.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:02 PM
The pick. I agree that ATL misses the playoffs.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:03 PM
That’s like being 2nd place in the Big East
May 1st, 2012 at 1:03 PM
He had one start there, right? You think he’s playing safety this year? I don’t follow NCAAF really, but that strikes me as surprising.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:03 PM
huh?
May 1st, 2012 at 1:03 PM
Or anyone else. Apparently TBL just saw the LSU-Ark game where he started at Safety?
May 1st, 2012 at 1:04 PM
Mathieu, who’s played cornerback, nickelback and safety on defense this season, has his own built-in clock. He can sense when his team needs that big play.
http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/55525/making-the-case-for-lsus-tyrann-mathieu
I think he only fits on D in the NFL as a corner.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:04 PM
No way that Barrett Jones goes before Seantrel.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:04 PM
Brian Quick solved that problem.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:04 PM
And can get exposed as Fraudtastic in the NCG.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:05 PM
Pro Bowler Earl Thomas is only 5’10″.
/Hook ‘em
May 1st, 2012 at 1:05 PM
He’s their nickel back, essentially. He lines up in the slot so he can blitz on the edge and take the slot WRs. Again, wait until the combine when it comes out he’s 5-7 and 168 before you say he’s a first round pick. He’s really not great covering dudes. He’s a playmaker of the highest order, but there were plenty of times that teams would pick on him in coverage because no one was passing on Claiborne.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:05 PM
Bills, Chiefs and Bucs in the playoffs.
At least 2 of those 3 are locks to make it. Avatar wager for a day … anyone? Will bookmark the post/comments.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:05 PM
I think I’d be willing to take that bet, actually.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:05 PM
agreed.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:06 PM
Devin McCourty played Safety one game too. I don’t think you list him as a safety, unless you are saying you think that is his primary position this whole year (though it hasn’t been in the past). Do you know something the rest of us dont as far as Miles’ plans for him?
May 1st, 2012 at 1:06 PM
also…barrett jones is moving to center. NFL teams love versatility.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:06 PM
i’ll take that bet.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:06 PM
2 of those 3 postitions are CBs.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:06 PM
Chiefs and Bucs in the playoffs
Huh? Is this a typo?
May 1st, 2012 at 1:07 PM
*meant after Seantrell
May 1st, 2012 at 1:07 PM
I’ll wager.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:08 PM
Tough wager…you’ll have to make the avatar change today if you want it to go up by the end of the football season.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:08 PM
He was the Outland winner at LT, Lombardi semifinalist at G and will be a Remington finalist at C this year (you can book that shit). He also has a 4.0 I believe. He’s the perfect person, apparently.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:09 PM
See I like this, TBL. Make a prediction that isn’t completely obvious, and be willing to back it up. It’s more fun that way.
I like the Chiefs and Bills, and TB could very easily make progress in a turbulent division. It’s a pretty good call there.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:09 PM
Julian Edelman, CB
May 1st, 2012 at 1:09 PM
you obviously didn’t click the link here.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:09 PM
I thought KC was a good bet to win the west until they effed up that 1st round pick.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:10 PM
I’m shocked Denard isn’t a top 5 lock. The most electrifying player of the modern era.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:10 PM
If only he could stop tornadoes…
May 1st, 2012 at 1:11 PM
Ndamukong Suh, K, Detroit
May 1st, 2012 at 1:11 PM
I’ll take that bet
May 1st, 2012 at 1:11 PM
I would predict this would be the draft order of QBs:
1. Barkley (lock city)
2. Wilson
3. Bray
4. Smith
Bray could be No. 2 with a good year, but I assume Doolander will fuck that shit up somehow.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:11 PM
Has a 1st round pick ever moved from safety in college to CB in the NFL? I’ll guess never.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:13 PM
just following in joe thomas’ footsteps is all.
also, he can’t be perfect because he’s fat.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:13 PM
TBL got that wrong. He’s not a S at LSU. He’s kind of a hybrid in that he plays all over the field, but he’s most certainly a corner. Either way he’s not going in the first round anyway.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:14 PM
also…barrett jones is moving to center. NFL teams love versatility.
Perfect or not, he would look good anchoring the SD line for an soon-to-be-aging Philip Rivers.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:14 PM
Michael Huff might move to CB this season…depending on how the new guys do.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:15 PM
I would predict this would be the draft order of QBs:
1. Barkley (lock city)
2. Wilson
3. Bray
4. Smith
I agree, but the only way Doolander could do that is to focus more on run, which needs to be done, just not try and run 1st and 2nd down, forcing Bray to make throws on 3rd. Then again, it could be disastrous.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:15 PM
Eddie Gaedel was considered All-Pro material at safety before he decided to focus on bsaeball.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:16 PM
So the Browns should have drafted him 3 years ago to protect Weeden?
May 1st, 2012 at 1:16 PM
Also, Jones is a 3-4 OLB for sure. Does Jax run a 3-4?
May 1st, 2012 at 1:16 PM
He’s not quite conceding that point yet…
May 1st, 2012 at 1:16 PM
Good thinking projecting another Ted Thompson trade up involving Belichick
May 1st, 2012 at 1:17 PM
lol.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:17 PM
Not as such.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:18 PM
I don’t get what they were doing last year. When they lost Bray, they tried to run the ball more and did so at a much better clip. They need to use that mentality WITH Bray, because as good as he is, UGA (for example) made him look silly because they knew all he was doing was throwing the ball. I think he had 35+ attempts in 3 qtrs against UGA last year before he broke his finger.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:18 PM
So the Browns should have drafted him 3 years ago to protect Weeden?
A futures selection! Eureka! Babar, you broke the code! Ha!
In a couple of years, you too will be calling Weeden just another “random old dude”.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:18 PM
Doesn’t mean he isn’t wrong, though.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:19 PM
Honey Badger is a safety in college.
Say what now? Again, he’s LISTED at 5-9. Everyone who’s been near him say he’s 5-8 with lifts. No fucking way a 5-8 (at best) 170 pound dude is a safety in the NFL.

It’s Kawann Short.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:19 PM
Forgive me, what is “ATH”?
May 1st, 2012 at 1:19 PM
I think he had 35+ attempts in 3 qtrs against UGA last year before he broke his finger
Poole wasn’t getting it done. Playcall was questionable too. I should know, I’m an expert.
/wanking
But seriously, utilize his arm to frighten D for run
May 1st, 2012 at 1:20 PM
Around The Horn. Duh McMullen.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:20 PM
While I agree TheRick Rogers is a 1st rounder, Justin Hunter will be drafted ahead of him if he stays healthy this year. He was already locked in as a first rounder last year.
And they are all 3 coming out this year, no doubt, unless they all really screw up/get hurt.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:20 PM
Christ TBL, do you even watch college football?
May 1st, 2012 at 1:21 PM
I’d wager pretty heavily that the NFC North does not send three teams to the playoffs.
Eagles and Cowboys are both too good for that to happen.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:21 PM
Athlete…player with no position, basically.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:22 PM
Everytime I see this name, I think of this guy.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:22 PM
Spencer, you are aware that each of the last 9 years, a team has gone from last place to first place, right? Just didn’t want you to be blindsided …
May 1st, 2012 at 1:22 PM
Their offense was nonexistent without Bray/Hunter/Rogers. They were trying not to drown once Hunter and especially once Bray got hurt. Poole and that O-line was that bad last year. Just awful. Not to mention the gift that kept giving Matt Fredo Simms.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:22 PM
Affaleet
May 1st, 2012 at 1:22 PM
It’s a code name for a QB who can’t throw.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:22 PM
never. let me guess, Knile Davis needs to be in there? And Wilson should be above Bray/Barkley?
May 1st, 2012 at 1:23 PM
UGA will have more & higher draft picks that you think. Also, the TB BUCCS won’t do as well as you think. Look how long it took Philly to get in synch last year & they had a cool character driving the ship…
May 1st, 2012 at 1:23 PM
Considering he’s a Browns’ fan, he may not be aware of that, actually.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:24 PM
In lieu of a golf post.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:24 PM
Take the second point first, and I totally agree. All three are without a doubt gone after this year. As for Hunter going ahead of Da’Rick, I would say that would be a lock had Hunter not torn his knee up. That gives me pause. If he’s healthy (as you said) he’ll definitely go ahead as he’s better, scarier to NFL teams (speed factor) and he isn’t a massive prick a la The Rick.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:25 PM
You’re pretending like you don’t know so that people won’t think you’re jealous but I see right through the facade.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:26 PM
Isn’t there a new really hot blonde lady golfer from England on the scene?
/Sophia something…
May 1st, 2012 at 1:26 PM
Davis, if he’s healthy, will probably be a first rounder as he’ll run a great 40. The Wilson-Bray debate will be fun come next draft cycle. I actually think he’ll go ahead of Lattimore because Lattimore won’t run real fast. I see Lattimore being picked in the same area code as Mark Ingram (late first round).
May 1st, 2012 at 1:28 PM
The rumor, although this of course means nothing, is that even with the injury Hunter is still graded higher than Rogers. And yeah, a lot of that has to do with natural speed and jumping ability and his length and hands, but he’s also a really good kid unlike DaPrick, who seems to be T.O. reincarnated.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:29 PM
I’m paying them to stay.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:30 PM
I’ll give you David because the book is still out on him after missing a year, even though he is bigger and faster than he was pre-injury.
But there is absolutely no way you can think that Wilson, who is similar in size, has better numbers and plays in a pro-style offense is not better than Bray. I guess you have hitched your wagon to Bray, like you said, so you need to stick to your guns, but care to explain why?
May 1st, 2012 at 1:30 PM
Wouldn’t surprise me at all, actually. Damn…if Tenn can block the likes of Bama, UGA, SC and Fla (tall order) they could put up some scary numbers on offense this year. I just don’t think they’ll be able to block them.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:31 PM
You seem to be taking this exercise far too seriously.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:32 PM
Sweet. I’ll chip in myself.
And ark: I think Bray is better. Wilson plays in a much different offense (and a much more talented team last year) and is a great college QB, but I think Bray is more talented in just about every way. Bray also has about 3 inches on Wilson. I’d say Wilson is more durable and better on his feet, but that’s about it.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:32 PM
Gotta side with TBL on this one. Bray will be bigger (6-5 to 6-2…yes, I took an inch off of both of their listed heights) and he will have a much stronger arm (aka football porn to scouts).
May 1st, 2012 at 1:33 PM
I’ve said it before, but I think the offense line is going to take a big step forward this year. There’s a lot of talent there. I’m just worried about us losing our playmakers to injury like we always seem to do.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:34 PM
Sophie Horn is the golfer. I don’t think she’s even ranked anymore for female golfers though. Kind of a social media creation.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:35 PM
A big step forward would mean being able to block anyone, though, not the best DLs in the nation. UGA, Fla and SC might have three of the best fronts in all of CFB next year (especially UGA should their NTs stay healthy).
May 1st, 2012 at 1:35 PM
I see Lattimore being picked in the same area code as Mark Ingram (late first round).
so does TBL…great minds and all
May 1st, 2012 at 1:37 PM
Their pass blocking was great and has been for two years, it’s just the run blocking. Tiny Richardson is a monster and a first round pick in waiting at tackle, no doubt, and he’s starting this year.
No doubt though, they’ll be going up against the best. As long as they can run block better than Poole’s pitiful 1.8 yards a carry or whatever they’ll be ok. Tennessee will have some speed at RB this year unlike last year.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:37 PM
I’ve about had it with DaRick. He’s miniature TO. I don’t know what happened behind scenes but Doolander looked bad in handling that situation.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:39 PM
sandra gal is that spiffy euro tour goddess.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:39 PM
He’s a Diva. Everyone knows it, but he’s an NFL receiver playing for your team in desperate need of playmakers, so Dooley is doing everything he can to keep him there this year because he knows he needs him to win. It’s BS, but it is what it is. I don’t think Rogers is a bad kid, he’s just a massive diva and headcase. In other words, a wide receiver.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:39 PM
like what i’ve seen (when he’s healthy)
size
arm
talent around him this season (esp at WR – Wilson lost 3)
when i talk to folks and they talk potential, Bray is above all in 2013 (even logan thomas, barkley, etc)
May 1st, 2012 at 1:41 PM
yep…i got it. it’s an avatar for a day…not the worst thing in the world.
still curious as to how you came about your hankins pick and not including john simon.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:41 PM
pretty shocked at the reaction. nobody seems to have any enormous beef with any picks. have yet to hear, “how’d you leave x, y, z out of the first round?”
May 1st, 2012 at 1:43 PM
pretty shocked at the reaction. nobody seems to have any enormous beef with any picks. have yet to hear, “how’d you leave x, y, z out of the first round?”
So, Jason – how does that make you feel? Confident? Prescient? Relieved that we aren’t firing on you?
May 1st, 2012 at 1:44 PM
ive asked how you left out john simon twice. that’s a fairly big miss.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:45 PM
I covered him in HS. Such a little prick. All of the coaches hated his ass, too.
I do think you’ll see John Jenkins and Alec Ogletree go in the first round. I think you have Seantrell way too high and Barrett Jones way too low and I think Matthieu is a name pick, nothing more. But really, how can people slam a Mock Draft? Hell, Mocks from a week before this year’s draft were way off. It’s fun exercise that gets people talking pro and college football. I’d be happy if you did one once a week when CFB starts.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:46 PM
Spencer –
Dienhart loves him http://btn.com/2012/05/01/all-spring-defense-special-teams-honorees/
and Hankins lost 15 lbs in the offseason. Nothing against Simon, but he’s also only 270 (vs. 320 for Hankins)
May 1st, 2012 at 1:47 PM
ive followed both throughout their careers rather closely…simon has played every position on the DL and even some LB. he’s got a six pack at 270. hankins was so fat, it was a SHOCK he even saw the field as a freshman.
in terms of production? hankins is a BEAST, but simon’s on a whole different level.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:47 PM
I’m sure that would be well received.

Big 10 homer loves Big 10 guy?
Who gives a fuck? They’ll still read it.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:48 PM
tho, as a buckeye fan, im absolutely fucking OVERJOYED that urban held out hankins and simon in the spring game since they were kicking the asses of OLmen all spring long and making it impossible to install any offense.
EEE!!!
May 1st, 2012 at 1:49 PM
cmon man…simon’d be a beast in the SEC too.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:49 PM
I’d appreciate them taking a step forward since they’re spent the last two years getting pushed backwards.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:50 PM
This also applies to posts about Jenn Brown references in sitcoms.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:52 PM
I laughed.
Anyway, you going to the UGA game this year? We’re renting a house and 10 of us are going for the weekend. I can’t fucking wait. Dropping off Lil MC with the grandparents and then going nuts in Athens for a weekend. I’m so pumped.
Oh for sure. I was more cracking wise on Deinhart.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:53 PM
You think they’ll read them as much? I don’t think so, but TBL and his stats dudes would know for sure.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:53 PM
indeed.
and i should’ve read the link…TBL was referencing dienhart loving hankins, not simon. still tho, hankins is a beast in his own right. appluad his commitment to improving his physical condition during his time in cbus.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:55 PM
Well, it’s May. We have a whole season ahead of us.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:55 PM
I can’t wait to see Jenkins this year at UGA. God dammit…the next 4 months need to fly by. The fact that UGA has a legit shot at 12-0 (no, I don’t think it will actually happen) is so exciting.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:55 PM
that sounds pretty awesome and debaucheristic. I probably won’t make any away games this year unfortunately.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:56 PM
I believe Kenny Vaccaro will be a 1st rounder as well as Jackson Jeffcoat should he choose to come out.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:56 PM
I suspect you’ll see some FLA DL go in the first round next year, too. They have a STACKED front 7, though Powell going down does hurt.
May 1st, 2012 at 1:56 PM
im excited too. can’t wait for the 10-1 bucks to destroy 8-3 michigan’s “chance at a conference title.”

May 1st, 2012 at 2:00 PM
*beams with pride*
May 1st, 2012 at 2:00 PM
The good news for UGA is while they’ll be highly ranked (I’m guessing preseason No. 8) they will behind at least two other SEC teams, and possibly 3 or 4 depending on where SC and ARK are ranked. I assume ARK will be docked with Petrino gone, but either way there will 5 SEC teams in the top-12 to start the year, and all of them are worthy in my opinion.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:01 PM
I am more than worried about the Tenn game for UGA. I’m convinced Tenn beats a top team this year. I just hope it’s SoCar, not UGA.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:01 PM
if alabama’s young’ns play to expectations, they’re the clear favorites, but as of now, they all look to be pretty even. LSU, bama, ark and UGA seem to all be right there…SC’s a notch behind.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:02 PM
im convinced florida will suck and blame it on urban again.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:03 PM
The good news is UGA will be full strength for the Tenn game as it’s the 5th one.
/sobs
May 1st, 2012 at 2:05 PM
If we go 1-11 but beat Florida I will be happy. I am so fucking tired of losing to those assholes.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:05 PM
I like LSU this year. I think they’ll play USC for the title, actually.
They’ll be partially correct, but if they struggle again (8-4, 7-6) Boom will feel some INSANE heat in year 3.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:06 PM
I was talking with some NEB buddies last year and they didn’t get why UGA was so elated to beat FLA. I said the same thing. They owned UGA for a decade plus now, but UGA has a shot to turn that around. I think they’ll win this year all things being even (health/suspensions) and that would mean they could go for 3 in a row in 2013.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:06 PM
I almost agreed with you. but then I inserted “Georgia” and then “Bammer” inplace of Florida and I felt the same way. so, I need us to go 3-8 with wins over Florida, Jawjuh, and Bammer for me to be happy. I fucking tired of losing to all of them.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:07 PM
Beating Tenn in K’town is such a wonderful feeling. When the game is at night it’s even better. Damn…I’m so jonesing for CFB right now.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:10 PM
Nope. It’s Florida #1 for me, no question. We’ve been UGA recently, and Bama hasn’t owned us quite as hard as Florida has. I just hate them. So much. We have been better than them so many times yet they own us.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:11 PM
Aka Jordan Jefferson.
BTW, I can’t believe that an NFL GM actually signed Jarrett Lee to a contract. A.J. Smith, your days are numbered.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:12 PM
This is one thing that I take away from the FLA series with UGA. With the exception of maybe 3 times in the last 12 losses, FLA has been far better than UGA. Though those 3 times where they still won I wanted to kill someone.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:12 PM
I know the Georgia folk don’t like him much, but I’ve heard some very good things about Roethlisberger Jr. this spring.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:12 PM
I’m equal opportunity hater of those three, Sean Jean.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:14 PM
Holy hell…this is porn for Miz and other chart/spreadsheet type nerds who like CFB.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:14 PM
Don’t get me wrong, they’ve usually been better than us the last decade, but many a time they weren’t previously (I think last year we were a better team at that point) and still somehow got all the damn brakes and beat us.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:15 PM
I honestly thought this dude has been super disappointing to this point. Am I wrong?
Seantrel’s been injury prone. I think he probably needs to be healthy this year and next year to get into that top-10 range. In other words, I think he’s coming back for his SR year after the train wreck that this year’s Hurricane underclassmen ran into in the draft
May 1st, 2012 at 2:15 PM
Not true, actually. We were all pissed when he fucked up. We just get pissed when some hack journalist writes that Mett was ahead of Murray because of a better spring game. Mett was always backing up Murray. Mett is the reason i think LSU wins the SEC this year, though. I think he will make plays where Jefferson and Lee couldn’t last year (i.e. make competent throws).
May 1st, 2012 at 2:16 PM
i like oregon, USC, and oklahoma. oregon vs. USC is going to be must-watch x 20 this year.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:16 PM

Mett is the reason i think LSU wins the SEC this year, though. I think he will make plays where Jefferson and Lee couldn’t last year (i.e. make competent throws).I have this dream in which Zach Lee stayed with LSU instead of signing with the Dodgers in the spring of 2011, and LSU averaged 60 points a game instead of 40 and beat Bama by 20 points in the NC game. Alas, it is just a dream.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:20 PM
it’s that, plus landry’s back and can work that O real nice and they’ll get a nice boost from hanging 60 on the irish this year.

Probably, a little bit. I don’t think there was a good argument for Lamar Miller to stay but some of those guys just shouldn’t have listened to (apparently) Drew Rosenhaus. Tommy Streeter? Marcus Forston? Fuckin’ A.

UGA at SoCar

Bama at Ark
UGA-Fla

May 1st, 2012 at 2:23 PM
Until Petrino blondied his way out of a job, this was on my list as well. I’m not sold on Smith keeping that Hog revving, though.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:23 PM
I think Landry is such a fraud in terms of being an elite QB. The OU system is a machine. Hell, after Broyles went down OU couldn’t do jack all season, though that Meteor dude is supposed to be a freak.
If WIS people think O’Brien is the next Wilson they need to slow their roll. Wilson was a legit stud for three years at NCST. O’Brien was a good, young QB for one year and then a train wreck the next.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:23 PM
I just hope it’s SoCar, not UGA
Husker, they’ll beat UGA this year. Been taking care of them more than not lately. As for the other ones, simply and sadly, no.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:24 PM
id rather see WVU vs. oklahoma state.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:24 PM
The Cocktail Party is such a great game, though. The environment is so much fun, but I agree that one was more personal than the others.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:24 PM
Who? Tenn?
/I think I’d take that bet
May 1st, 2012 at 2:26 PM
Meh. Two shitty defenses do little for me. I’d much rather watch two great defenses, one good offense and Florida’s abortion of an offense.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:26 PM
Travis Benjamin will be the fastest guy on the Browns. Other than that “expectation” is probably too strong of a word. He could be really good with coaching. He’s actually a WR (unlike Devin Hester) but he didn’t ever seem like he was even trying to learn the offense until last year. He’s got decent hands
May 1st, 2012 at 2:27 PM
exactly…landry’s a product of that machine that operated it fairly well. not unreasonable to expect him to improve with an extra year under his belt. he made a good decision staying at OU and not going into the draft.
i feel like it’s easier to be the starting QB at wisky with that OL and running game than it is to be the backup at a place like oklahoma state or WVU or stanford.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:27 PM
UGA has won 3 of 4 against Tenn. They’ve lost two in a row to god damn SC, though.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:28 PM

I’m saying yes, with a little bias. Then again, it is on the road. they either win or get blown out
May 1st, 2012 at 2:28 PM

May 1st, 2012 at 2:29 PM
Maybe. But Toon is no longer there as are two MORE OL. I know WIS puts them out, but damn…surely they’ll dip at some point. Then you add in losing the OL coach as well as the star OC and I think WIS takes a step back this year. Of course with OSU verboten from the title game, WIS could be 8-4 and playing Mich or Mich St for the Big 10 title.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:29 PM
UGA has won 3 of 4 against Tenn
I’m also banking on a UGA suspension. It’s bound to happen. Your stats dont scare me!
May 1st, 2012 at 2:30 PM
LSU Honk late to the party – Husker has it right.
TM7 played corner in the base defense opposite Mo Claiborne. In nickel and dime he moved into the slot and was replaced by Ron Brooks (Bills 4th rd. pick) on the outside. Safeties were Eric Reid, Brandon Taylor and Craig Lotson.
Also, TM7 will NOT be a first round pick. Combine will out him as small and relatively slow. But man, can he find the ball.
His absolute NFL ceiling is probably Antoine Winfield, but more likely in the range of Jason David.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:30 PM
Until Dooley wins a big game, much less a middle of the road SEC game, I’m not getting my hopes up.
May 1st, 2012 at 2:31 PM
Well, I’d give Tenn the WR advantage for sure. QB is a push (not on talent, but on how they’ll be in that game). UGA owns the RB and TE spot and most likely every single position on defense. OL is up in the air, though.

The Hawkeyes could be OK this year. I’m not saying they’ll win 10 games or anything but 8 or 9 isn’t inconceivable. They play better when expectations are low. Plus, Ferentz is due for a solid season. Senior QBs usually give him a shot at breaking 8 wins.

Personally I like the pick but with such a deep Offensive Line quality in this 2013 draft I’d address another glaring need? Replacing Dashon Goldson should be second priority in this draft & since you could pick up a great lineman Rd. 2 I’d would Draft T.J. McZDonald Safty USC 6′-3″ 220 4.42-40 time is a major upgrade over Goldson
