TBL team, also great background on the webpage. Looks really cool. Had to get some more pics of Kate in, here, here and here. Everyone, enjoy the NFL Draft and one more day until Friday!

Our president is so cool!

Without even clicking, I already know it’s the Heart Attack Grill. They probably used the same story as the guy a few months ago who had a heart attack in the restaurant, and just changed the name and gender pronouns.

Any takers on the O/U for madden Cover curse? My odds are O/U 7 games before he’s out for the season with an injury. My apologies to an DET fan, not that I wish for Megatron to get hurt, but I cringe when I see who they selected and what’s happened to players in years past.

Happy Draft Day everybody! The best day of the year for Jets fans.

Jack Outside the Box
Jack White Is the Coolest, Weirdest, Savviest Rock Star of Our Time
Umm – no. I’ve seen Jack White’s outfits. He’s a chronic liar unable to go on the record about much outside his comfort zone. He has some entrepreneurial vision but this is a little much. The reporter just tap danced around him for the first half of the article, like a pr piece. Mabe I’ll revisit this later.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:25 AM
Pro life!?! Had she naturally conceived and had an ectopic pregnancy they would have encouraged her to die. Can the Vatican not afford a PR team? Wearing robes and being ‘virgins’ with horrible press is no way to run a business.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:26 AM
The best day of the year for Jets fans.
I know you could do this for a lot of teams, but Christ the JETS passed on Marino and Sapp?

That David Simon blog is going to be a good read from time to time. Also, take some time to read the story about the cop from Homicide who was blinded in a shooting over 20 years ago. It ran in the Sun about a month ago, and it’s fantastic.

I think the week leading up to the NFL draft is worse than the week leading up to the Super Bowl. Every moron has a mock draft to post and every moron thinks they have it right. No offense J-Mac.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:35 AM
that’s deep stuff man, you nailed it.

The Catholic Church acting like complete assholes?
What? If you work at a Catholic school and get IVF treatments, you should be aware getting not-renewed for the next contract is almost certain. This is not some inconsistenty. You may disagree but this lady is an idiot. There are about a dozen important details I’d need to know to make a decision on this case from a legal perspective.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:47 AM
Jesus.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:48 AM
I had no idea that Mike Sherman was now the O.C. for the Dolphins. now the whole Tannehill thing makes sense. if I was a Dolphins fan, I would be pissed.

My brother had a cat in college (Merlin) who was fed once a day and it was a set amount. He was staying at my dad’s place where my step mom had an automatic feeder. Merlin would eat until he threw up and then go back to eating. They had to put the food up or he would do this over and over and over. He was also the same cat that ate a huge mound of catnip and passed out for a solid 10 minutes. My brother and his roommates thought he was dead. Homeboy just pops up after ten minutes and drinks a shit load of water like nothing happened. Funny cat.

Apparently embryos are harmed? She said on GMA that none were harmed in her case.

April 26th, 2012 at 8:49 AM
Hernia, will there be Yardwork today? Anger would like to be released towards one, Alfredo Aceves
April 26th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
I’m not speaking towards the legality of her firing. I’m simply saying firing a woman because she can’t have kids naturally is about the most cold-hearted, insensitive thing you can do. So, in short, fuck the Catholic Church for doing so.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
It’s just a handful of ignorant idiots. Fuck ‘em.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:51 AM

oooh, sporty kate. i see many like her at my gym. it does not get old
April 26th, 2012 at 8:54 AM
The great thing about Sherman is that he’ll be a model OC. He really runs a good, open, power-run offense. As long as there is a strong coach to tell him to stop being so fucking conservative and predictable, the team will move the pill and put points on the board. They’ll win their fair share, too.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:54 AM
Why, he’s got 4 saves?!!!!! (and a 14+ ERA)
April 26th, 2012 at 8:54 AM
I went to bed after the 6th inning with them clinging to a 7-6 lead. Color me surprised to wake up to find that Padilla, Morales, and Aceves did not allow another run.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:55 AM

Hanley Ramirez is friends with Jay-Z.
i wonder what ‘friends’ means at the level of super celeb. i know they are people at the core, but did ramirez attend a jay-z party and they said hey to each other, or do they go fishing together, hang out and play ocarina of time (or whatever)?
April 26th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
I’d be sad.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
Arkbadger, thanks for bringing me off my high for Draft Day! I guess it is what it is. I would like them to take WR Michael Floyd or a DE that’s gonna make an immediate impact, but it seems as though the prevalent thought is Tannehill. We’ll see in about 12 hrs.

My cousin was in seminary school studying to be a priest. Dedicated his entire life to helping kids, adults, etc. A week before graduation they found out he was gay. Immediate expulsion.
A lot of my family stopped going to church around that time.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:57 AM

I went to bed after the 6th inning with them clinging to a 7-6 lead. Color me surprised to wake up to find that Padilla, Morales, and Aceves did not allow another run.
He loaded them up in the ninth after hitting the 9 hole, then struck out Span somehow. Watched it on At Bat 12, the greatest app of all time. Luckily it was the freebie of the day.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:58 AM
question for your geniuses out there… who do you rate higher Blackmon or Floyd?
a friend asked me about what the Browns should do at 4 if Richardson is gone. i said WR, but i kinda like Floyd over Blackmon overall.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:58 AM
I’m simply saying firing a woman because she can’t have kids naturally is about the most cold-hearted, insensitive thing you can do.
So she did something that would likely prevent her contract from renewal, got laid off for doing it, and it’s the employer’s fault? It doesn’t say if she explored alternate methods, if she asked if her decisions would impact her employment, etc. Like I said, lots important items missing in this piece. ALso, this lady sounds like a flake.

Can’t wait to see which format they choose. Looks like we only have two more years of the BCS and we’re going to get our plus-1. Sweet.
April 26th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
All kinds of awesome.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
I honestly don’t know how good of a QB Tannehill will be, but there is no damn way he is a Top 10 pick in the draft. he is a project who had played QB for what, a season and a half? just seems like such a grab for where they are at draft position wise. I don’t know shit about the Dolphins, but I am guessing they have needs outside of QB, right?
April 26th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
a flake.
who among us is not?
April 26th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
I never thought growing up I would hate a team more than I hate the Dolphins, but the Jets have accomplished this.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
almost everything about the TSA pisses me off. i was ok with it until i had to start flying every other month, then i realized how screwed up all their policies are. there’s probably far too much red tape for them to actually make any changes though.

April 26th, 2012 at 9:02 AM
She did say that she had the blessing of her supervisor a year before her firing. She mentioned that her supervisor was praying for her. Her second round of IVF got her fired.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:02 AM
a friend asked me about what the Browns should do at 4 if Richardson is gone. i said WR, but i kinda like Floyd over Blackmon overall.
best defender or OL available. defensive guys can wreck shit with less help than an offensive skill player, who has to at least partially depend on your QB, totally if it’s WR
April 26th, 2012 at 9:02 AM
Mark Tannehill = Mark Sanchez
Less than 2 seasons of starting experience, both going to be overdrafted.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:02 AM
You would think. I love when teams take a flier on a QB rather than draft for need because it allows the Ravens (and unfortunately, the Steelers) to slurp up true talent at the bottom of the draft.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:02 AM
No shit. Was he not aware that kind of thing would be frowned upon? I mean come on.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
you shut your mouth when you’re talking like that.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
Pretty sure he thought it was none of their business.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
Floyd. He has something between his ears.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
back when my dog was more nimble, she would be able to somehow jump high enough to pull loaf’s of bread off the counter-top and would eat the whole thing. I would get home from school/work and she would be swolt up like a beach ball with a pathetic look on her face. I would be amused and enraged at the same time.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
the only thing that keeps me from hating the jets more is realizing that if the browns played in NY they would still have the same overrated, overhype machine trying to come up with a way to come up with a “Linsanity” type nickname for the team.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
Not knocking for the hate, but what were some of the reasons?
April 26th, 2012 at 9:06 AM
WR, LB, OL, CB
I think they’d do well to land Fletcher Cox at 8.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:06 AM
The background picture of this site is one image that is mirrored.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:06 AM
So you’re implying Blackmon is stupid? Is this like Dez Bryant’s mom being a hooker? I’d rather have Blackmon, seems to be more willing to put in the work than Drivy McDrunkendrink.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
It’s usually a bottle of Henny.
But seriously, they’re kind of different but both still really good at what they do. I am just not understanding how in a matter of months they got on almost equal footing after Blackmon was so far ahead of him.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
A gem of a back up who will be out of the league within 5 years and coaching at Boise?
All of this right here.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
Not knocking for the hate, but what were some of the reasons?
i know at least three…T B L
April 26th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
I think he’s going to be better than Blackmon. None of these cats are AJ Green level good, but they could be Julio good (which is still pretty good even though he drops too many GOD DAMN BALLS).
April 26th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
It was mainly that I was a Pats fan, and they sucked for a long time. But I lived in SoFla for 6 years and during that time I just could not stand them anymore. I guess living in NY has had that effect for the Jets.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
Hey! Lushy O’BoozenCruise got his shit together the past year. He’s committed now!
April 26th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
I wouldn’t say she got approval from her boss. Her boss allowed her to take time off (not sure she could block a person from using time to see a doctor) and said she’d pray for her. There’s a ton missing here, really.
I am sure the stem cell treatment firing story will come soon too. These are tough scenarios.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
A gem of a back up who will be out of the league within 5 years and coaching at Boise
we’re raising the bar on boise players now? clady must be the most accomplished ever. if i was a backup making six figures then have a life filled with job security in coaching, i’d be happy. i don’t think the kid is disillusional
April 26th, 2012 at 9:09 AM

April 26th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
question for your geniuses out there… who do you rate higher Blackmon or Floyd?
a friend asked me about what the Browns should do at 4 if Richardson is gone. i said WR, but i kinda like Floyd over Blackmon overall.
I like Floyd to have a better career but no GM in their right mind would take him over Blackmon. Better off trading down and trying to get him. They would get media roasted for taking him over Blackmon even with people now starting to question Blackmon.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
Browns need to take Richardson for Chillys KAO. Here is how each drive starts. First down, Trent off right tackle. 2nd down, Trent off left tackle. 3rd down, Trent off right guard. Punt.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
My old lab (RIP) pulled an entire rump roast (raw) off of the counter and crushed it. At least 5 lbs of raw meat. He also ate frozen, raw chicken breasts (and the accompanying styrofoam container) and an entire pan of cupcakes. The best part is that he felt so bad about it that he would piss himself while doing it, and when we walked into the house he would immediately come over to us and start crying with his tail between his legs.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
But now Wino McJaundicehands will have millions of dollars and a lot of free time at his disposal.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
You have no idea how happy I am that the Floyd-Green battle is now taking it’s show to the big stage. Floyd is gonna wreck shop in the league so long as he can stay on the wagon.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
I guess I’m more bullish on Moore than most. He’s a highly-intelligent, experienced winner who can put the ball on a dime. If Drew Brees can be a top 3 QB in this league, there’s no reason Moore can’t at least be a strong starter. Give me smarts and experience over a cannon any day.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
Can any LSU/SEC fans comment on Reuben Randle? I’d say he’s the guy I’d like the Browns to target at 22.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:11 AM

I get not telling them but it is against their beliefs and that becomes their business.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
If Tannehill is thrown to the wolves, then Mark Sanchez is a scary possibility. If he’s allowed to watch and learn for a year or two, then I think his potential is Hasseldork or Tony Romo.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:13 AM

My old dog, named after Clark Griswald (RIP) once ate an entire classic double from WEndy’s bun and all after I put it on the coffee table and had to run outside to take a phone call. He was 10 lbs. He ate almost 1/5 of his weight at one time. Took the burger out of the bag and undid the wrapping and eveything. He then ran and hid under the bed shaking like a leaf.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
I was thinking of keeping Calvin Johnson in my fantasy league. Now I am definitely not. Hope he is cursed with poor play rather than injuries.

Not to mention that if they found out he was married or in a relationship with a woman they’d can him just as fast. I’m not sure how this can be ‘shocking’.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
He’s a highly-intelligent, experienced winner who can put the ball on a dime.
if he’s allowed to lob it, sure, and without 900 pounds of monster in his face inside of 2 seconds.
He cant’ throw short outs. He’s not going to be anybody’s backup for two years, and then only maybe.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
Say what now? The difference between Brees’ arm and Moore’s is night and day. Yes, accuracy is better, but you have to have a baseline of arm strength. Chad Pennington thinks Kellen Moore throws like a bitch.
I think he’d be great there. He was productive with two idiots throwing him the ball last year and no one else outside to scare teams. He’s also huge and can run.
Please. AJ Green will be dancing in the Pro Bowl (if they still have it) for years to come.

id be surprised if any of the WR’s in this draft become stars. couple solid guys, but nobody like megatron or AJ.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:17 AM
I don’t think I framed it as shocked. More ignorant, backwards, and bigoted.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:18 AM
It’s like you’re rolling out a Chad Pennington HOF speech preview.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
Exactly. He was PERFECT for the system they employed at Boise. I mean…PERFECT…but you have to be able to make certain throws in the league, and he can’t do it. That doesn’t take anything away from his dominance in college. It just is what it is.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
Kellen Moore doesn’t have a bad arm. At all. He can’t throw 80 yard INTs from his knees like Kyle Boller, but there’s a large middle ground between Rogers and Pennington. Moore is in that middle ground.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:20 AM
Blackmon concerns me. I think he’ll be like Anquan Bolden, but I don’t know if you take Bolden in the top-10. Maybe you do, but I don’t think I would.

Every single scout that has watched him disagrees.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
his dominance in college? if you’re listing reasons why he won’t succeed outside of boise’s system, it was the system’s dominance, not some limp wristed bieberback.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
A coach could employ an offense similar to Boise’s in the NFL if he had to.
I’m not saying he’s going to be a top-10 QB ever. But he’s a lot better than most give him credit for. Every year bad franchises take risks on big strong QBs with monster arms, and two or three years later they’re back in the top five of the draft doing the same thing. Moore is a smart value pick who will do someone a lot of good.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
it’s funny you’re saying this considering back during the NFL playoffs you were joe flacco’s biggest supporter.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
Yes, he does.
No. He’s not. And it’s not even the throwing the ball far kind of arm. When he’s got to throw slants and skinny posts and back shoulder fades, consistently, he’s going to disappoint.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
That’s definitely the only requisite qualification for my choice for President – the cool factor.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
A coach could employ an offense similar to Boise’s in the NFL if he had to.
a perfect example of a guy who should have quit talking while he was behind.
If you watched Moore and thought he had anything other than a weak arm, I dont’ know what to tell you. Kaepernick had a cannon, compared to Moore, and his problem is arm strength in the pros.
April 26th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
no they couldn’t, it needs the wider hashmarks otherwise passing lanes would get clogged.
there’d be more risks taken on small weak QB’s, you know…if they had any upside whatsoever. there’s a reason people use pickup trucks to tow shit and not priuses.

Kellen Moore — Consensus Bust
April 26th, 2012 at 9:29 AM
This right here. Again, the guy was outstanding in college, and I watched him cut up UGA for 3 quarters (UGA was whooping that ass in the first, and then Ogletree went down…but I digress). He was great in college, but his game just doesn’t translate to the NFL. No shame in that.

April 26th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Flacco isn’t a big dumb guy with a cannon. He has other tools that allow him to be a successful NFL QB.
Guys like Gabbert, Locker, Mallet, Henne — they impress scouts at the combine with big arms and physical attributes then inevitably fail to translate those physical gifts to the NFL. Sure, it’s a little early to write some of these guys off. But if you had to bet on any of them to have long term success, would you?

I read a good profile of Mittens where it discussed how he’s very loyal to a very close circle of friends, but he has a very hard time opening up to anyone else. So, in short, this election should be fantastic to watch when he has to wear jeans and mingle with every Tom, Dick and Henry.

He’s a privileged elitist without the first clue how the average person gets through their day-to-day lives. I almost think he’s better off just embracing that than trying to come off as Mr. Everyday. Especially against Obama, who actually does understand what it’s like to deal with real problems.

April 26th, 2012 at 10:03 AM
The comparisons to 2004 are eerily similar, actually. The incumbent has an opposite party who hates him with a passion and they decided to run a very bland, safe candidate who can’t relate to people against him. Romney can win the election, but it’s not going to be easy. Hell, Kerry was leading in the polls as late as mid August in 2004 and he still lost.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
This is interesting because while I didn’t like Hillary Rosen using the phrase “never worked a day in her life,” I wholly agreed with her overall point that Ann Romney has no clue what life is like for 99.999999999 percent of all mothers out there. And I think, based on the limited outcry, most Americans did too.
Raising children as a multi-millionaire stay-at-home wife with nannies, servants, butlers, and every resource possible is not in the same galaxy as the mom who gets up at 6 am, gets her kid off to school, goes to work, deals with the boss and the stress of a white-collar job, then maybe gets to grab a quick bite before running the kids to soccer practice or tee ball or drama club or whatever.
We like to paint the wealthy among us as severely out of touch when in reality there are a lot of hard-working men and women in that tax bracket who acutely understand what they have and how the other 99 percent live. But when you hear the Romneys open their mouths you realize they truly have no concept of a life without privilege.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
if the republican’s have learned anything in the past 8 years,
It’s that Karl Rove is a politcal genius who was so far ahead and willing to go the extra mile than anybody. I think Rove did more to change the politcal complex than anybody. His career with GWB was the most intriguing figure tenure as a politcal operative than anybody in the past 25 years. People get all obsessed with the Bush/Kerry/Gore/Obama/Romeny soccer mom soundbites, when its the operatives that will often decide things. The financials of politics is getting more exposure. I mean we already know how 90% plus of the districts will vote. It’s the fight for those 10% that decide everything.
Just as an example – not one rural area (that wasn’t a college town) voted for Obama. These elections are groundswells of political change. It’s functional operative work in the key districts that are key and Rove knew this better than anybody before everybody else.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
It’s hard to be angry or jealous about powerless poor people.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
Totally agree. Rosen fucked her words up terribly, but if the Romney camp wants to paint Ann as the every woman, have at it. If I’m running White Bread’s campaign, I don’t want Ann telling Mittens what to do re: women’s economic issues when she’s never had to go out and earn a paycheck that is less than it should be because she has a vagina rather than a penis. That’s what Rosen was trying to say, but she said it in about the worst way possible.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Can’t this be said for all politicians? We all would like to believe that money doesn’t change people but it probably does for the most part. Even if someone grew up dirt poor, they aren’t going to relate to most of America if they are in a position to run for office.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Hell, Kerry was leading in the polls as late as mid August in 2004 and he still lost.
they botched that campaign once the swift boat veterans for truth did their thing.

Exactly. They never thought his Vietnam service would become a weakness, because they underestimated how nasty Rove and Co would get. It was a huge mistake.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:18 AM

April 26th, 2012 at 10:18 AM

April 26th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
For most? Yes. Especially by the time you get to the Senate. But guys like Obama and Scott Brown actually grew up hard and carved out success in a world set against them. So many of these guys were born on third and thought they hit a triple.
That’s why I really can’t even consider Romney. He doens’t want to be president for any reason other than ego. It’s just a box to check for him, an achievement he can brag about in the locker room. Love him or hate him, Obama at least has a passion for the position. He ran because he experienced the system’s fundamental injustices and had ideas for bringing about change. In his mind, he needed to be president because no one else would advocate for the problems he felt needed correcting.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:20 AM
John McCain and his black wedlock baby could attest to how nasty Rove and Bush were wiling to get.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
This is spot fucking on. He’s felt it was his goal in life to be president for about 20 years now, maybe longer. As you said, it’s a check on a box, something he thinks he deserves.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:22 AM

April 26th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
So true. The Kerry campaign was a disaster in crisis management. They should have spun the attack on Bush and Co and hammered him for it on day one.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:27 AM
Like, what are Romney’s goals? What transformational, revolutionary ideas does he bring to the table? Uh, lower taxes. Freedom. Love for America. Essentially, tired Republican platitudes with no policy to back them up. Yawn.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
i can’t vote for romney based on mormonism alone…it’d be one thing to be a zealous muslim or christian or jew, but mormon? no. not since there are so many valid criticisms regarding the legitimacy of the book of mormon, joesph smith’s translation, smith’s translation abilitiles and the smithsonian’s pre-1998 response to the validity of the book “Certainly there was no contact with the ancient Egyptians, Hebrews or other peoples of Western Asia or the Near East.”
it’s a fucking fairy tale. and this man wants to be our president. sheeeeeeeeit.

It really is pathetic. He proposes nothing that Bush didn’t do. For Obama’s sake, his campaign needs to hammer at this. All Romney wants to do is lower taxes for the rich so that it will trickle down, a la Reagan and W. We’ve tried that before, and it was an unmitigated disaster. He brings absolutely nothing new to the table, and watching him rail against Obamacare will be high comedy when Obama is there to push back.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
i dont think we necessarily need a transcendent leader at this point, since a president operating in some sort of “cleaner” role would be pretty beneficial in its own right. it’s just romney clearly aint that dude.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
This. Bush ran a bad campaign in 2004 and McCain was awful in 2008, but Kerry’s was a partial birth abortion of epic proportions.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Of course he was. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t voted in as your nominee. So any “we can’t vote for Romney ’cause he was born was a silver spoon up his ass” arguments ring hollow when you consider the Dems did exactly that with Kerry.
Or maybe the real attraction to that ticket was the ambulance-chasing VP candidate who cheated on his wife, while she had cancer, during their campaign. That’s always a possibility.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
I wonder if Obama will go after this. I tend to think he won’t directly, but I would set up a shady ass Super Pac and just cite “facts” that Mormon’s believe in the commercials. Then end it with, “Should our President believe that Jesus is coming back…in Missouri?” Throw some scary music in the background and voila!
April 26th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
I like Obama while recognizing his faults, but FDR himself could rise from the grave and Congress would still be an intractable nightmare preventing anything from ever changing. I still marvel that Obama was able to pass healthcare in this toxic, hyperpartisan environment, especially with the antiquated Senate laws designed to kill or water down even the most basic bills.
In short, I don’t know that anyone can be the cleaner.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
yeah, Kerry and Romney are very similar. Here’s to hoping their aspirations end similarly. Although, I guess Kerry is still an utterly ineffectual senator from the great state of Ketchup.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
They didn’t vote for him enough, now did they?
/rinse and repeat in 2012
//but don’t fret, you’ll get Christie for 8 years beginning in 2016
April 26th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
while id laugh at the scenario you laid out, we both know he won’t. he’d alienate an entire voting base that probably votes in decent numbers.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
So true. Politics has become more about winning the day than doing something. Both sides are guilty of it, though the Rep’s do it with an insane amount of consistency.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
Not to take this too far, but the only difference between Mormonism and other religions is that the fairy tale is more popular and accepted. I laugh as much as anyone about the crazy shit Mormons believe, but is it fundamentally different than believing a god and his son/self was born of a virgin birth, died on a cross, rose three days later and now guides us all?
I’m not a religious guy and don’t care what someone else practices. Frankly, I don’t think a candidate’s religion should even matter. Their fanaticism to said religion? That’s much more concerning to me.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
if FDR tried to pull what he pulled in today’s media landscape, i don’t think he’d have as much ease manipulating em as he did back in the day.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
I patiently await the day DC is burning to the ground and we’re starting over somewhere else.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
“Our goal is to make Obama a one-term president.”
So when you say we’re the greatest country in the world, I don’t know what the FUCK you’re talking about! Yosemite?
April 26th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
This is so true. Time affords older Religions a sense of legitimacy that newer ones like Mormonism don’t yet have.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Well, the fact that the world was as stake probably helped. But I tend to agree with you.
This. A complete reset is the only way we’ll ever turn this around.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
Husker, we disagree on college football yet seem to find common ground with politics.
I can live with that.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
Fuck the SCDP and Peggy who invented the new spelling for catsup for Heinz.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
As can I.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
is it fundamentally different? absolutely. you don’t get kicked out of catholicism for drinking coffee or having sideburns. there isn’t a mandatory tithe.
i dont care what people practice either, but for some religions, it’s impossible to separate the person from the church. mormonism is one of those.
there are plenty of christian and jewish and muslim moral lessons that can be gleaned from non practicing members of that church…mormonism takes some of those christian lessons and puts it in a nice cultish suit. joesph smith wasn’t martin luther or mohammed. he was a swindler making a great profit thru spiritual intimidation and fraud. it’s closer to scientology than a legitimate religion.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
I can’t wait for Newsroom to begin. I have extremely high hopes.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
This is all spot the fuck on.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
no, action and SOME historical accuracy afforded those religions legitimacy. such as there really being a moses and really being jews wandering the desert.
but you can’t have spiritual bunk beds when every part of smith’s “work” has been debunked, ya hurd?
April 26th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
better get lap band surgery now
/nothing against fat people, but it’s reality.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
we’re the greatest country in the world for a variety of reasons, none of which are political. the accountability that you make the life you want is something most other countries would literally go to war over.
it’s great we can have a discourse like this, but we couldn’t in china. it’s great to have a far less limited upward mobility in terms of social status than in say russia or japan or india. we don’t have the violent crime of the emerging south american states. we have the highest levels of education for those THAT WANT IT.
we’re fucking great. fuck europe.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
He won’t win re-election next year.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:55 AM
Our upward mobility is geting pretty shitty actually.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:57 AM

How so?
April 26th, 2012 at 11:32 AM
Spencer, spot on with mormonism.
April 26th, 2012 at 11:33 AM
The poor and middle class have shitty upward mobility compared to historical averages, the latter especially. Middle class wages have stagnated for almost 20 years compared to inflation. Gas was a dollar a gallon when I graduated high school in 2000. It’s four times that much 12 years later. That’s one small example that speaks volumes.
Most of the lifestyle gains we’ve enjoyed have come as a result of cheap credit and debt. The income gap is widening, and as more and more college graduates fight for fewer and fewer jobs, it’ll only get worse.
April 26th, 2012 at 11:36 AM
What you’re describibg, I agree with. However, I would’t describe that as upward mobility. What you are describing sounds like people trying to keep the status quo.
I would say the barriers to taking an original idea and developing it into upward mobility are less than ever.
April 26th, 2012 at 11:40 AM
So many of these guys were born on third and thought they hit a triple.
He’s not a believer. He’s a Texas Leaguer.
And re: 2016… Hillary will be too old to run for president in 2016. She’ll be 69 by election day then. Who do the Dems have? That Booker guy is VP material in ’16 at best.
I just hope Republicans don’t run a couple of assholes in ’16. And by “assholes” I mean: we’re leaving the gays alone.
April 26th, 2012 at 11:51 AM
That I’d agree with. Although the counterpoint – it’s harder than ever to succeed as a small business/entrepreneur because of massive corporate competition – has some merit. I was more referring to social upward mobility.
Heldover – Cory Booker is a charismatic, intelligent guy beloved in Jersey, and he has some real policy wins under his belt. However, if Obama wins this year, I don’t know that the country will elect another articulate black guy directly after him. Draw your own conclusions as to why.
April 26th, 2012 at 11:55 AM

That’s why I’m saying “VP at best for ’16.” Maybe Booker could run for Senate or even Governor at some point in the future and get more cred for maybe 2020 or beyond. Again…Dems’ chances in ’16 don’t look good.
April 26th, 2012 at 12:02 PM
Yeah, no doubt. It’s really, really hard for a party to win three election cycles in a row, especially in the modern political climate. Even Clinton, who went out with a 70+ approval rating and budget surplus, couldn’t hand the chair to his VP.
April 26th, 2012 at 1:05 PM
I don’t care about Romney’s ability to relate to me or anyone else. I just want someone in the White House who understands economics.
/an it’s not Obama
April 26th, 2012 at 1:06 PM
Ugh, we vote for a President, not for an American Idol. Let’s learn from our past mistakes my fellow Americans.
April 26th, 2012 at 3:28 PM
Love him or hate him, Obama at least has a passion for the position.
April 26th, 2012 at 3:29 PM
Whelp, apparently I need to learn how to use the quote function.
April 26th, 2012 at 7:20 PM
