NFL Draft: Patriots Trade Up For Chandler Jones, Browns Take Brandon Weeden, Riley Reiff to Detroit, and David DeCastro Falls Perfectly To The Steelers
21. New England (via Cincinnati): Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse. There is some diversity of opinion on Jon Jones’ younger brother. Mayock had him as the best defensive player. New England must have had him rated higher as well, to make the move up.
22. Cleveland: Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma State. The Cleveland Browns made the smart move and added a solid veteran to tutor Colt McCoy. If he is good, it’s worth the pick to get a guy who can start four years under the rookie deal, and then you can let go at age 33, because Weeden will likely be at his peak when he takes a snap as a rookie.
23. Detroit: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa. The Lions address their offensive line for the future, with Backus aging, by taking the second best available pure tackle in the draft.
24. Pittsburgh: David DeCastro, OG, Stanford. I want to go on a rant about the great teams just plugging along and doing their thing. The Steelers just waited and a great pick fell to them at a position of need. Amazing.

LOL at the Browns. Trade up to take the most disposal position in the league, and then burn your next pick on a QB who almost becomes the oldest QB in the division as a rookie (assuming he beats out McCoy). He’s a year younger than Ben – who already has been to 3 SB’s.
Steelers surprise with DeCastro – didn’t see his name on any mock drafts. Thought for sure they’d take Hightower, but with DeCastro falling that far and the shape of the OL they had to grab him.

I hope this Boise guy turns out to be awesome

Fucking Patriots just took the guy I wanted Baltimore to grab. Dammit, now werre drafting a center in the first round. Ugh.

Which team was going to take Weeden before Cleveland’s 2nd round pick? What other team would have moved up?
April 26th, 2012 at 10:24 PM
Pretty sure everyone thought he’d be long gone by then. Thankfully the Browns and Seahawks exist. Great pick.

good news for the Browns and Dolphins is that thanks to the Seahags they haven’t had the worst draft.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:27 PM
dammit I wish awful teams didnt gift archrivals stud guards because they dont know how to draft.

What do you think about Reiff? I would’ve preferred Hightower, Upshaw or Mercilus. Hoping they can nab Jenkins in the 2nd now.

Once again rich old white people act like total retards

Based only on reading about OL because I couldn’t tell you honestly based on what I’ve watched, I thought Reiff was the best in the draft. But I also don’t hate the Browns draft so far so you can draw your own conclusions on what my opinion is worth

love it. second best OT in the draft. hightower would have been nice; howeva, Backus is running on fumes and Gosder is a fucking scrub, so I get it.

Anyone else see the black hole?

I don’t get Weeden here…There can’t be that many teams clamoring to take this dude. This is why they did not want to give up the 22nd pick for RG3?
Would you not give up Weeden and Richardson for RG3? Dumb!!!

Pats fans love this. BB just waited, saw some value guys dropping, and pounced. They really don’t have roster room for a bunch of rookies anyway, so I wouldn’t be shocked if they use one 2nd, and pick up a 3+4 and call it a draft.
Though if Devon Still lasts much longer, Hoodie is trading both seconds for him, tossing two middle fingers in the air, and hitting the links.

The Bill is too smart to draft a State Penn guy.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:38 PM
Who the hell is Whitney mercilus?
April 26th, 2012 at 10:38 PM
Loving the hightower and jones pick. Lots of potentail as long as they are healthy. Kind of bummed next years draft that pats will only haave 1 pick in the first rd. Unless they trade welker…

Which team was going to take Weeden before Cleveland’s 2nd round pick?
You can’t ever rule out Oakland in this type of scenario. And they don’t even have a first round pick. They’d have found a way.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:43 PM
That’s a good pick for them I think. Good OLB/DE out of Illinois if I remember right.
Gotta think one of those 2nd’s is trade bait, unless someone hangs around way too long. If these guys don’t pan out though, BB is going right back to the trading back every year strategy.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:44 PM
No 2nd rounder, no 3rd rounder (just an untradeable comp pick), and can’t trade the #1 or #2 in 2013 as one is going to the Bengals…Reggie McKenzie is no wizard.
April 26th, 2012 at 10:59 PM
Did the Texans need another OLB/DE though? Where is the receiving help for Johnson?
April 27th, 2012 at 3:23 AM
lolz. He’s starting week 1.

Am I the only one getting the child molester vibe from Wheeden? A face like that looks like it should have a mustache on it, too.

I’m thinking more bitter beer face than pedarest.
April 27th, 2012 at 8:12 AM
When Weeden walks out on the field, he’ll already be better than Flacco.

Coming right up! (as a Browns fan, I got nothing else to do for the foreseeable future)
