Charlotte’s 2nd-to-Last Chance at Avoiding Historical NBA Futility
The 7-57 Charlotte Bobcats, losers of 21 straight, have two more opportunities to finish without the worst winning percentage in NBA history. Tonight in Orlando and Thursday at home against New York. (The 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers went 9-73 for a winning percentage of .110; a 7-59 finish would leave the Bobcats at .106.)
For a historically awful team, the Bobcats sure do have some swagger. Recently, tempers flared between Rudy Gay of Memphis and Charlotte rookie Bismack Biyombo.
“Biyombo told me, ‘This is my house,’” Gay said, smiling afterwards. “I told him, ‘You have 7 wins. It’s everybody’s house.’”
Sick burn. One of the Knicks’ reserves – JR Smith? – will surely be saying the same thing when the Knicks drop 125 on the Bobcats in the season finale.
Charlotte did beat Orlando (soundly) seven weeks ago, so there is some hope tonight on the road. The Bobcats are +14.5 dogs.
Against a lifeless Orlando team completely coasting into the playoffs without Dwight Howard … I’d take the Bobcats here if I dabbled on the NBA (I don’t).
* Yes, I still completely stand by what I wrote here after the Bobcats draft in June 2011. Reminder: In Kevin Durant’s rookie year, the Sonics won 20 games and were the 2nd worst team in the league. As long as the Bobcats can get Anthony Davis in the draft, it’ll be a step in the right direction. If they don’t? Uh …

best moment of the NBA season besides Vinsanity burping.

They don’t deserve Anthony Davis, hopefully the karma-gods will be smiling at the Pistons instead.

“With the first pick in the NBA Draft, the New Orleans Hornets select…” Book it.

Will Knicks be playing anyone that day? Can they move in the playoff standings?
Also, I like the Bobcats. Just a really young team that for some reason wanted BJ Mullens.

Seriously? You can admit a mistake, if you want.

So who’s the Kevin Durant that’s on this roster?

Kidd-Gilchrist….or something.

If they don’t? Uh …
But seriously? In my expert analysis, it doesn’t seem that great of a class.

Warriors…new owner…looking for a new arena deal.
Just expect Anthony Davis to blow out his knee in summer league.

/pencils Charlotte in for another top 5 pick in 2013

The best excerpt from that earlier Bobcats post is this:
Mainly because you say this like it’s a knock on Wallace and Ibaka is the far superior player.
That is really one of the dumber basketball-related conclusions you could come to.

My handiwork then:
How is this team being constructed in any way, shape, or form similar to OKC? The answer is not even remotely at all. Is it possible Cho is on the right track? Maybe, although I think their draft is a big question mark. But is he proceeding in any way like Presti? Actually, no. Not at all.
Charlotte could be on their way to getting better, but I’d wager heavily this team doesn’t crack the top 4 in the East within the next 5 years.
April 25th, 2012 at 5:06 PM
I’ll now say they don’t crack the top 8 in next 5 years. Anyone who thinks Anthony Davis is going to have even remotely the same impact as Kevin Durant is sadly, sadly mistaken.

Contraction.

this team should have been contracted.
